Candy Dulfer — Pick Up The Pieces.
What’s on your mind?
hey ecahn — how’s the hudson valley tonight? it got up to 81 in the shade on my front porch today and its still 74 outside
Aloha, Suz, eCAHN, and lln pups…! I hope all is well…!
Here’s what it sounds like. They shut up at night though.
We had a few 90 degree days, but back to low 70s during day & low 50s now. FANTASTIC!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
oh my and yay!
One neighbor told me 30 billion. That seems excessive but I haven’t bothered to research it. Can’t do anything about it.
the science channel did a 2 hour show on them recently – thank goodness its only once every 17 years
Last nite, the Better Half, had to have her left wrist x-rayed and a half-cast applied…! I’ve had to step up my game a tad…! ;-)
oh dear! what happened???
We MUST thumb wrestle over whether it’s 13 or 17 years. There seem to be both cycles. I stopped in on some thread a couple of days ago and that was the hot topic of discussion. Some are doctrinaire and must be right. I moved on.
you would win — my thumbs have some arthritis in them
She had to run for the last bus headed home, the new driver had seen her, and still left the depot…! But, she’d tripped and fell hard on her wrist, and has some bruised ribs for her efforts…! 8-(
ouch! poor mrs ct — you taking good care of her dood?
Mine too. That’s one of the points. Who cares who wins a thumb wrestling contest.
The damage cicadas do is that the adults score the underside of thin branches, suck out nutrients, lay eggs, which drop to the ground as larva who bury themselves for the next 17 years. (There, I’ve declared my side.) The damaged branches subsequently fall off gradually in winds & storms over the next X years. I found them on the ground for many years after the last cycle.
I have a row of bradford pear trees that is coming into maturity that I planted perhaps 5-7 years ago. There is an unending march of cicadas up the trunks. I shudder to think about the damage, but am going to go ostrich on this one. There is only so much one can do.

Bus driver must have been a meany. My experience with bus drivers is mostly that they’re fine folks. Sorry to hear about your wife’s fall.
*laughing* they do considerable damage…i hope your pears make it
Your trial to the Economic Research and News expired on Monday, September 17, 2007.
Can’t blame them for trying. I don’t get off the list because I get a chuckle when I get a teaser email every few months.
But of course, M’dear…! It’s rather hilarious to see my Son, having to adapt to her sudden infirmity…! A real wake up call, I tell ya’s…! ;-)
they just now noticed?
i hope he’s stepping up too tut.
*heh* It still hasn’t sunk in…! He’ll get with the program soon, I assure ya…! ;-)
i bet you got your own version of the lqqk and hands on hips
I don’t just lQQk, I act…! ;-)
i always think of the lqqk as an early warning system.
I’ve given up on planting trees. That’s only the beginning of the story. They are high maintenance items, and that stage of my life is over.
I had an argument (one of many vigorous ones) with Fat Al Gore today. Part of his Earth in the Balance book, section where he polemicizes that a billion trees MUST be planted.
I’m reading the book bc I’ve had it almost since it was published (1992), hadn’t read it, going to get rid of it, and in each life a quantity of masochism must be endured. The margins are filled with my arguments. Gonna donate it to local library, which will probably take one flip thru and toss it in the garbage, but a gal can dream that she might open some one else’s eyes.

who knows — those margin notes may mean something important to someone who checks it outta the library
No. I’m on their list. Since email costs nothing, they send out a teaser every few months in the hopes that they’ll interest recipient enough to subscribe. The headlines are included qua ads, but you can’t access the contents unless you pay.
Mind you, I never did subscribe. They sent the contents for free for awhile. It is one of the info sites that provide no insight. One of my bosses used to read those articles on econ data to see what the standard buzz was. Like I have a friend who forces herself to watch Sunday talk shows for same reason. That big a masochist I am not.
my bad.. that song is really titled think about it and was writted by james brown
i’ve stepped way way back.. i don’t watch any of the talking heads shows anymore — only the local news and jon stewart and colbert.
i used to read two daily newspapers every day and check at least 5 news websites. now, i get one newspaper delivered once a week and half the time i just skim it.
He know’s the basic parameters, and, he also knows I have zero tolerance for stupidity and/or insolence…! My one golden rule is that he shall treat me, and his Madre, as human beings…!
On another “There’s no accounting for…” topics.
I’m no longer on the Board of a local college foundation, but I still serve on the Finance Committee.
New Prez of college. Hot to trot on corp donations. Made some small headway this past year. Congrats emails go flying out.
I emailed one Board member I know more that most that corp donations come with strings and watch what happens to academic independence. His reply: Interesting point. I will keep my eyes open on this one.
Like he hadn’t figured that out for himself…
presstv and sometimes rt are my major news sources and I’ve nearly outgrown both.
i hear that. even when my girls were little and i was ill (or recovering from knee surgery) they would ‘nurse nancy’ me – which depending on age would be bring me a cuppa coffee or water or fixing me something to eat. i did it for them and when one was ill, the other would help out nurse nancy the other.
a friend gets her news from aj and the bbc. can’t stand the way we don’t get real news here in america anymore
One of the few disadvantages of living alone.
That’s why Lipton’s made noodle soup. One can “nurse nancy” oneself.
yup — being a solo does have a down side
BBC is not only rife with pedophilia (not just Savile but apparently hundreds of other cases have been revealed in last month or two) but since Blair has become like NPR (P=pentagon), nothing but a govt mouthpiece. Think Homs atrocities (2011?) which BBC accused Asad of, while knowing that west-sponsored terrorists committed.
AlJaz, owned by emir of Qatar, used to be good before emir decided to destroy Syria. Now it is not much more than propaganda, although still OK if topic isn’t Syria.
OK Suzanne, gonna cash in for the night.
Thanks for the company & be well.
Sweet dreams, eCAHN…!
Btw, I do agree that the BBC and Al Jazeera have truly sucked in their reporting, of late…!
my friend says the same but says it is still better than the trash dished up on the networks
*heh* No doubt about that, Suz…! ;-)
Pretty sad moral, eh…?
i believe her exact words was its crap but its better than our crap
…but its better than our crap…
Gotta love that low(ered) bar of expectations, eh…?
for the love of you
infotainment — the dumbing down of america
That’s one reason I try my hardest to expose the real truth, from a humanistic perspective; since hellfire missiles, and, CS gas, certainly doesn’t discriminate between Civilians and/or ‘Terrorists’…! 8-(
In 1960 Krzysztof Pendercki was hyper tonality.
Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (1960)
This 2000 recording of the work of Penderecki shows a significant advance in its understanding over earlier efforts.
These are not arbitrary pitches. In fact, he requires a precision well beyond the time.
He is a composer from the 22nd century who flew in just to trouble us.
its appreciated. nice to see your other posts on the mothership front page passing on what you’ve learned…
hey alice — how ya doing tonight?
tis about time for me to take token out. thank you for stopping by tonight and letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
