Amy Winehouse — I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know.
What’s on your mind?
Hey, Suz. Hope all is well with you. Some sunshine, I hope. It was lovely at the coast today….. nice breeze coming in off the ocean and lots of sun. I enjoyed it very much!
hey tuez!!! how the hell ya been?
hey dearie — that sounds wonderful. today was a soft almost summerlike 73 with soft air. still a nice 63 out — which is our normal high this time of year.
did ya hang out and do nothing but enjoy the day?
So this morning, my 80-year-old, Luddite mother wakes up and can’t wait a second longer to enter the 21st century, for the third time. She went out and bought an iPad. However, her turbo charged drive onto the computer superhighway, soon hit a brick wall. Rather than flowers for mother’s day, I’ve sent her an AC adapter so she can charge it and a wireless router, so she can use it, once she has internet service at her house.
I’m hoping, since this is an iPad, I will not get the gray hairs her last 2 attempts at computer use caused me.
my 79 year old mother has her hands full with her 87 year old husband. i’ve told her to just get her own laptop – which she did. steve – if he doesn’t know what a file is on the computer — will delete it.
I did simply enjoy the day! My friend and I walk a couple of days a week, and this was our day to walk. We really enjoyed the breeze off the ocean. Nice. I’ve been working so much that these easy days are just a special pleasure.
i love my easy days. i stopped putzing around the house this afternoon and just sat — enjoying the air with all the doors and windows open :) it really recharges my batteries
Good for your mom, tuez, for wanting to be part of it all….. call in the Geek Squad. Probably cost more than roses for Mother’s Day…. but much less stressful for you!
My mother could never grasp the idea of what a file even was. Your mom has mine beat. About 15 years ago we gave her an old Mac and set her up to use our AOL dialup account (yes, it was that long ago), after about 6 months I bought her webtv and reclaimed the Mac. Webtv worked well until she got sick of all the spam in her email and she ditched that a few years ago.
they are still on aol but now have a non-dialup connection. my mother doesn’t know how to do the internet – only aol. she’s told me that
I suggested she go visit an Apple Genius Bar, as that is free. Until she has wifi, she can’t authenticate the iPad, and she may as well let Apple do it. I can talk her through setting up the router, I googled it before having it shipped to her, rather than shipping it to me to set it up, but she has to be able to set up the iPad first. I suggested, also, she ask her young neighbor to help her get going, as it will only take a second, if she has wifi. But the Genius Bar can teach her a few things and help her out, so I think she should try that.
you know i’m no good
I think the only reason AOL survives is old people who got comfortable with it and still pay, even though it’s free.
You are a good daughter! And it really is amazing how many good neighbors are out there that will help folks get up to speed. I found the name of a computer nerd from my daughter and set him up to get my dad all properly configured. It’s great. My dad is 95 and couldn’t get along without his internet connection! Life is such fun!
tis my mom and step-dad to a tee. the only reason they got rid of dialup was it was cheaper to go to some hybrid dsl/aol thing than setting up and paying for a second phone line when they moved to the phoenix area.
steve’s been writing poetry in his native hungarian and posting them on hungarian poetry boards.
The thing about aol is that some of us oldsters have friends from 20+ years on our aol email list…. and we don’t want to lose track. Email was the next best thing after sliced bread, dontcha know!

Speaking of phone lines, my mom thought she could get rid of the cell phone, keep the landline and add an internet connection. I said no, dump the land line, keep the cell phone for emergencies and use the iPad for all your non-emergency phone calls. With google talk, she can call all over the world for free on the iPad but google talk isn’t good for emergencies. Also, all her utility lines are underground, so storms wouldn’t knock out service. She should be able to port her land line phone number to her cell phone. She didn’t want to get a new number.
she should also be able to use facetime to talk to call any other apple device. jen jules and i facetime on my iphone now that i have one.
Send a group email to everyone you know on AOL and inform them of your new email addy, on another service, keep AOL for six months or a year to capture anyone who didn’t get the initial change of address, and you are good to dump AOL.
See, there is that too. The problem is trying to get her to wrap her head around all this.
that’s what i did when i left aol. i sent a couple emails out to everyone with the new email addy. i kept my aol for a short while until everyone acclimated to my gmail addy
i gotta admit i’ve still not figured out all the iphone will do but i finally ‘get’ facetime. i had no idea what it was and how it worked and didnt count on my cell phone data usage or minutes.
will you still love me tomorrow
I’ve accepted the fact I will never know what all my new iPod will do. But here’s the thing, there is absolutely no difference between an iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, except the ability to make cell calls. However, there are apps for that. And I don’t have to have a data plan, just wifi.
there are apps for everything. lord love a duck, it makes my head spin

There are all these love songs telling us about love.
There are all these statistics telling about divorces.
What is the truth?
This Saturday I will be married to the most beautiful woman for 40 years.
Penny, I love you.
How many people can say that?
We are both getting old, but she still looks as lovely as when we met. How many men can (will) say that?
Love; It only means something if you feel it. And we are living it.
