Rosanne Cash — Burn Down This Town on Later with Jools Holland, 2006.
What’s on your mind?
sorry for the confusion pups — just realized i had the name of the song in error.. its corrected in the title and post — the url is not changed
It’s freakin’ cold here, again. 90 one day and record cold the next.
It’s almost fuckin April and we are in the 30s tonight.
Hi! How is the west coast tonight?
egad tuez — that’s just forking wrong! i’m a balmy 49 — there is no way i should be warmer in oregon than you are in florida! in march! how many layers ya got on?
hey bev — not bad — we are forecast to have 70 this weekend and sunshine! sure looking forward to it. how’s dc tonight?
40 degrees right now, I shoveled 3″ snow/slush yesterday in the driveway. Should get up to upper 50s for the tourists and the Cherry Blossoms this week.
egad — 3″ is a lot (to me). are the blooms gonna bloom in a timely manner?
Hell, it’s already 43 here.
I’ve got layers and the heat on, but set at 63. It’s the wind.
Oh and the hail we had Sunday, not to mention the wind.
that wind is the worst! it just drives the cold right to your bones.
When are you thinking of visiting? Sorry, I can’t remember.
seven year ache
not in my plans at the moment. steph plans on a second year at school there so maybe during her sophmore year i’ll be able to visit.
I want to once again give you a pat on the back for your excellent book salons. I’ve not been able to sit through them lately in real time, but still love ‘em.
Burn Down the Mission
wanna visit my mom in az — she’s not getting any younger. gonna try to do a test drive up to seattle and back to see how the leg handles being in the car that long… that will let me know if i have a shot at driving to moms or will have to fly.
I’ll second the motion.
hey blue — how’s lalaland tonight?
Trees are just starting to bud out – should see flowers in a week or so, if it warms up!
Oregon to Arizona? That’s ambitious — my long-distance driving days are pretty much behind me, plus with the price of gas…
Still, if you drive, you don’t have to go through all that Fatherland Insecurity stuff at the airport.
burning down the house
My complete unscientific response, plan on hurricane season but avoid August 15th through September, and you should be good at reduced plane fares.
yeah and all the metal in my legs would set off the beepers and then they would wanna porno scan me…. i would rather drive – gonna have to see how i do on a run to seattle and back in one day
Pretty much status quo — am using my week off from school to get caught up on errands. It’s good for clearing out the cobwebs, but doesn’t make for good anecdotes.
i’ll keep that in mind — she’s gonna be in russia this summer — school starts back up again end of august iirc
Tuezday, thank you. It is nice to hear from people that read / follow the salons. I never know how many people are out there. I can say that the Authors and Hosts enjoy the salons, they are impressed by the quality of the discussion and ask to come back. Thanks,
Hi, Kids. Lovely and warm on my coast today. Bought some Easter candy for my grandbabies, though I hate feeding them candy! I just figured they would never forgive me if their baskets only held deviled eggs and carrot sticks.
If you are going to go to Seattle, you should also cross the border.
Oops, I forgot about that. Can your daughter or someone go with you? My driving stamina isn’t what it used to be — I usta be able to go out to Joshua Tree and come back in one day. There’s no way I’d try that now — I’d worry about becoming inattentive.
hey dearie — how’s the coast tonight? i bought easter candy today — but its for me :)
i do have a virgin passport…
i used to drive from the sfbay area to tuscon az in one day. no way in hell i could do that now. i figure or to az would be a 3 day drive. each way.
with kd lang
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
That’s cool. Let me know if I can be a resource person — I’ve travelled there twice (not recently: in ’85 and ’90), studied the history and culture, and speak the language in a half-assed kind of way.
Welcome, oh denizen of Paradise.
I guess everyone nodded off. I used to drive from Connecticut to Cincinnati in one day….. 13 hours. I knew where my 3 coffee stops were. Sometimes it was challenging because so many deer had been hit in the night along the highway in Ohio that it was an obstacle course. Once came into Cincinnati on black ice….. that was a difficult trip. I love to drive.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
the Authors and Hosts enjoy the salons
I’ll vouch for that. You did a great job of guiding me through the process when I did one.
thanks blue :) there’s more to you than just peanut butter *laughing*
it was that way on the run from my place to palm springs… had certain gas stations i always stopped at etc. i used to drive down there for 3 day weekends.
I went to college in LA in the early ’70′s. One weekend, a group of friends and I went hiking in Zion National Park in southwest frikkin’ Utah. Left Friday afternoon. Got back Monday 1 a.m. (woulda been sooner, but I didn’t check the dash and ran out of gas on the interstate; fortunately not that far out of Las Vegas). Them were the days.
Aloha, Suz…! It was a nice sunny Prince Kūhiō Day here in paradise…!
sweet! does this mean the damp and dreary is behind ya now?
my baby thinks he’s a train
Indeed! Everything seemed possible back in the day. :)
when i was 17
I wish…! The next rain belt is already pounding Kauai, and headed down the chain…!
(By the way, in Russian, peanut butter is аракавойе масло, pronounced “arakhavoye maslo.”)
Suz, have you considered the train?
how do you type in Russian?
hey senator — how’s sac tonight? i had thought about it there’s not a direct train from pdx to phoenix. and if i drove, i could bring token with me
Is it typical, CT, to have as much rain at this time of year as you all seem to be having? (Just thinking ahead in case I ever get to visit Hawaii!)
Token is waaaay important.
I am leaving for New Orleans tomorrrow. I have to go to Atlanta to get there. In the south they say after you die you have to go thru Atlanta to get to heaven.
he is. i figured he’s good company and he’s been my travel partner on my explorations around here. he road trips well on short trips — gonna see how he does on the trip to seattle — iirc he did fine on the trip up to oregon from ca but he’s not as young as he used to be either
BW – you were a pleasure to work with, it was my honor to highlight your book. Thank you!
I have a program on my computer — don’t remember how I found it, but somewhere on the intertubes. It converts the keyboard into a Russian keyboard — the “y” key becomes the Russian “н” (pronounced like “n”), for example. You just toggle back and forth on this icon in the lower task bar to switch between English and Russian.
The feeling is mucilage :)
Some years are wetter than others, and this one is certainly one of the wetter ones so far, I just hope our Summer won’t be a scorcher like last year’s…!
do ya have a layover there or just a stop?
Cool. I have often wondered.
Reading the weather reports, we are at -20C up here. Don’t complain about your weather, please.
What’s on my mind? Please allow the LGBT community to be equals in our society. I have even accepted a gay person as my son because his father tried to beat the gay out of him. He calls me pops. I cry every time he calls me that.
When will the Christian God become the God of love as stated in the bible?
my stepdad has a toggle set up for his computer that toggles between english and hungarian keyboard. drives my mom nuts – she forgets to check before she starts typing.
When I’m 64
Yes, I could see how that would be irritating.
hey kimmie — yikes — that’s cold! *shiver* how ya doing tonight?
That’s funny. When I lived in Cincinnati, I had to go through Atlanta several times to get somewhere else. I hate that airport! But I hope you get some good gumbo while you are in NO…. and some oysters, if they haven’t all been poisoned. Maybe stick to the beignets.
I change aeroplanes. I am stuck for a little over an hour.
How far north are ya kimmie…? I was born in Edmonton and lived as far north as Pine Point…! ;-)
My family calls beignets gut bombs. heh.
yuck! steph just booked her flight to russia outta jfk. she’s gotta figure out her flight to jfk and try to avoid a long layover.
First thing I plan on eating is an oyster loaf. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
No wonder you’re in Hawaii.
*heh* I’ve paid my dues…! ;-)
Gawd, I love that song.
Normal weather for Saskatchewan. When it hit 0C, I just wear a jacket.
Yes, it’s hauntingly beautiful and very much of its time.
Oh, stop bragging.
and i thought i was being brave moving from ca to oregon *laughing* i suppose you can get used to the weather but i don’t think anyone can get used to being cold
I had the album. Brings back many memories. Living in Memphis and San Francisco. Being married to my first BF. Having babies. wow.
I always laugh when I go to Bozeman in the winter…. if the sun is out and it’s in the 30s, the kids are out in t-shirts and flip-flops. But, hey, it’s a dry cold up there, so I kind of get it. It can feel much colder down here near the beach when it’s in the 50s and wet and windy (and it is always wet at night!)
House of the Rising Sun
All of the youtube comments are in German. You are multilingual tonight.
its my life
Suz and I realized a while back that we lived several blocks apart in SF in the mid seventies.
never met up until fdl tho…
Gott im himmel! I didn’t notice!
I must say good night. Have to get up early. Have a good trip, Suz.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 99 mary mac!
g’nite mary mac — you too!
Happy travels (and easy travels!), marymac.
Ah, an actual new song. Very nice.
Actually. you can. My winter coat I can’t wear above -10C because it is too warm. My jacket is very light and at 0C is too warm. 38 years of working on roof-top equipment.
gotta mix it up yanno – otherwise i get in a musical rut and ya’ll could be hearing blues tunes night after night after night
i lived in california for about 50 of my 58 years. i don’t know how ya do it but am glad you can. i think i would not go outside unless i absolutely had to.
token’s giving me the evil eye — guess i had better take him out to save a blade of grass. thank you for stopping by tonight and letting me hang out with ya for a bit.
I appreciate that. The secretary at school loves ’80′s bands, and I haven’t heard of any of them. Anything past the mid-’70′s is new-fangled to me. Well, gonna pull the ripcord. It’s been great typing with you this evening.
You actually get used to it. We are planning on moving back to Ontario. My winter coat would be appreciated there. -10C is cold there. Normal here.
