About Firedoglake
happy friday pups!
It’s a godfather OG kinda evening!
hey thatguy — how was your day?
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
Well it has finally stopped snowing. MrCE and I have realized that between Philadelphia and Cleveland, it has snowed every day for a week! Please Spring, be here!
I know that it is late, but we are looking for a movie for a bit, in front of our fire.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? your cold any better?
hey ce — when is dad’s party?
Last Friday. We had 22 people in a surprise party!
ooooo details! was he surprised? what was the best part? what kinda cake?
Somewhat better, I’m making a hearty beef stew with a slew of fresh veggies to combat it tonite…! ;-)
22 people, 11 of them my sibs. So wonderful. The cake must have weighted 15 pounds and was devils food with buttercream frosting.
sounds yummy! stick to your ribs food. its currently 34 outside and it snowed, rained, and had sunshine all within about 15 minutes today. the snow melted as it was falling.
spring sure is unsettled weather up here. a small tornado landed about 30 miles from me across the river in wa state yesterday afternoon — took out a barn – it was only an F0
yummy! what a wonderful occasion – betcha there were lotsa tears and laughs
And a total surprise. We worried, would we give him a heart attack? No, he was thrilled.
Cute toon! Hi everyone.
yay!!!
hey loohoo — how ya doing tonight?
I made a beef stew on Monday. Sometimes you just have to!
I won’t mention the perfect weather here in palm springs, Suz! Course, talk to me in August…
*laughing* i’ve been there in august — it gets too hot to swim!
Wow, That is amazing, awesome and seriously FAMILY. Best wishes from the bottom of my heart!
That’s pretty funky to have a tornado spring up in such chilly weather…!
hey openhope — how’s the sound tonight?
That rawks, Christine…!
Eggs-actly, Loo Hoo…!
a cold front had passed through a little bit earlier and there was lotsa instablity between cold air and the afternoon warmed sun. they are not common up here but not totally unusual either.
holy moly — it just dropped to 31 *shiver*
Ooh, I’m having fantasies about warm nights and no slime-slippery steps surfacing out of the rain,as always. :]
It’s ok here…not great but ok…J and the cats keep me going…And some Godfather OG :-D
how goes it with the diet and exercise program? are you still seeing good results with your blood sugar numbers?
Dang, it was 50 yrs ago today, when Please Please Me was first released…!
oh geez, now i feel old… really old. fifty years already?
dayam
It’s groovy. My husband is my guinea pig in this next era of our lives. Jim Humble’s book “The Master Mineral Solution of the Third Millennium” was in my mailbox today and I grabbed it on the way out to take Mom and Dad on an Adventure. Library, shopping. Mom accepting doing Life in a wheelchair. Frigging scored on cookbooks at the Friends of the Library shop. The wonderful women took me into the bowels of the storage, where the Real Cookbooks are lanquishing. I frigging went nuts and spent $8. I love our Libraries. SO MUCH
I don’t know if Jim Humble and MMS are real. I do know that after a 3 week detox Protocal 1000 , my severe sinus infection was completely under control. But, I have no blood, sputum, ect. tests to back it up.
I’m either beginning to heal a chronic infection and I can for the first time in years breath through my nostrils as a primary oxogen source…or,…I’m…what??
there are some benefits to shopping in a wheelchair — it was fun when steph was wheeling me around target getting easter candies for jen’s family last year. i’m glad she’s adjusting to life in the chair — i didn’t because i knew it was temporary so i hated every minute of it.
of course, i’m a prideful person and being in a chair was so humbling…
what cookbooks did you score?
*heh* I’m a great caregiver, but, a shitty patient…! ;-)
exactly — i’m the person who takes care of my girls.
Oh, A Famous Writer’s cookbook for my dad. He really likes the Paul Newman Hole=in -the=Wall cookbook. For the stories, because Newman was such a wit.
To Lee Iacooco[forgive spelling,Dad's got the book] when the Pinto started catching fire, ” You can get an A+ in Marketing and still flunk real life”.
or
It gets darkest right before it goes black.
I do have a fondness for Noir!
Great salad dressing recipes, and I’ve got all these amber bottles for the beer I never made. It’s time to see what the olds can do. Can you make salad dressing to can?
we’ll see
i love cookbooks that also have great stories in them or witty asides.
i have no idea? can you google it to find out? i spose it would depend on the type of salad dressing
Suz, still at it, sorta plateaued, gotta exercise more, if my feet will let me…
Dayam, some killah pics from Japan’s Sakurajima Volcano…
You’ll have it soon!
oldies but goodies?!
hitting the plateau is hard but i hope you find a way to break through it
whoa
Better to make it fresh each time, lest you need to add preservatives.
Oh, my!
The vinegar should be an ample preservative, Loo Hoo…!
is what i was thinking but then again, salad dressing has a best by date on it
I had fun because after the Library we went for a 9 block stroll to the hardware store. It was so good to be mobile, walking in the sun, in town. We don’t have sidewalks and asphalt where we live, so it’s fun to Not Do Mud. Also, Going down hills and letting go of the wheelchair with a full body shadow showing Arms Free……priceless. Mom knew she was Free :}
Personally, I think we get into this BORING way of dealing with our elders once they’ve gone round the bend. We project this fake Honor For Being Too Fucking Old, and from that point on we have to act as if it’s a big fucking deal to be that old. And we protect them from all harm, adventure, life….
If Mom could be the person she is, she’d have photographed my shadow letting her wheelchair run down the street unguided. for a moment of freedom
i learned how important it was to me to get out even though getting to the car was a bitch back then. just feeling the air in my hair, the sun on my face… what a balm to the spirit. it was that trip to target that made me realize that the only other times i had been outta jen’s house was for doc appts.
what a great adventure you guys had!!!
Should last 1-2 years, as long as she follows the proper canning/bottling protocol…!
i had no idea one could can salad dressing.
the things i learn at lln…
Gotta exercise more,…..I’ve been on the serious hunt for a Thrift Shop score Rowing Machine exerciser. There used to be Rowers standing upright ,stacked, at our local shops. Not anymore. Now it’s tread mills and bike machines.
I feel old
and fat
and in need of a rowing machine
peace out
Depends on the ingredients, I suppose.
i’ve been thinking about one of those three wheeled bikes
Me too. I have back roads I could travel. I’ll never understand the bikers on main roads breathing the carbon.
I wouldn’t add any sort of cheese or other highly perishable items to the bottles…! ;-)
You could put Token in the basket in the rear, Suz…!
would make it so much easier… i would like a front basket to put token in and a bigger backet in back to haul groceries etc
Perfect!
whatcha drinking tut?
*heh* An India Pale Ale would do the trick…! ;-)
sliding an full sail ipa down to ya tut….
tis about time for me to head out pups. thank you for stopping by and spending part of your evening with me.
g’nite all – hope to see ya tomorrow night for cartoons
Much Mahalo, Suz…! Bicycle Race… ;-)
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Yes. Once again, and always, we learn that hunkering down is comfortable and known…..it’s fun to walk the streets and explore your community. We talked and laughed with very nice people .omg, a basic baby bottle was $8.95 and the extra nipples were 2 for $6. oy

Good morning, pups. Today we have just Mr. Blow and Mr. Nocera, since Ms. Collins is off. Mr. Blow looks at “The G.O.P.’s Bachmann Problem” and says that the Republican Party is experiencing an existential crisis, born of its own misguided incongruity with modern American culture. In “Saving Children From Guns” Mr. Nocera asks a pretty simple, straight-forward question: If we can insist that aspirin bottles be childproof, why not guns?
Here they are, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. Typing is particularly difficult this morning since I have a very affectionate Tribble lying in the crook of my arm, so I think I’ll give in to the inevitable and cuddle a kitten. Have a great day.
Thanks for sharing…great way to start the morning, cuddling a kitty.
Enjoy.
