Tower of Power — You’re Still A Young Man.
What’s on your mind?
happy thursday pups!
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
Good, thanks Hope you’re doing well.
Hi Suz and PPD
I’m doing an LED experiment. In other words, do they actually lower one’s electric bill. A recent news report piqued my interest. So, time will tell.
hanging in and hanging on :) seeing more and more signs of spring and its the 3rd day in a row we’ve been around 60 degrees. unfortunately, a big chill is headed this way with a chance of snow on the hiills later this week.
Longer daylight is having its effect on temps here.
Uh, I’m not that thing, I’m a hag, as that video just reminded me. But it was still great; I’d forgotten about that song. (Alzheimer’s will do that to you….)
same here. sun is getting higher and higher in the sky each day
hey hag — how ya doing tonight? glad ya liked the tune… been featuring the brass this week
hey tuez — sorry, didn’t see ya come in. how has your day been?
what is hip
Hi, Suz and Gang. Been out of town a bunch. Gotta say something I haven’t read on FDL (of course I haven’t read all treads!) that the Vatican got its Italian Pope. Bergoglio is first generation Argentine from Italian parents. Argentina has a large (!) Italian population. Not a surprise…. but I am surprised at how many people don’t seem to ‘get’ that he’s Italian.
You’re a Big Boy Now
hey dearie — were you seeing your montana babies? i’ve heard that italians are the biggest immigrant population in argentina (trying to recall where i got that factoid from)
hey blue — how ya doing tonight? i’m a woman
hey ecahn — how ya doing tonight?
Yep, up in Montana seeing the munchkins up there. And then several days of work in Santa Maria. Met someone from Los Osos and thought of bigbrother…. it’s a small world actually. Nice to be tucked in at home for awhile.
ohmystars ecahn, i love that tom lehrer….
there’s no place like home eh :) i love that feeling when i return after being away
And I’ll bet Bergoglio grew up speaking Italian and some Spanish at school and such. It’s all such a ruse.
i got to groove
Don’t know why it took me so long into Frankie’s reign to link it.
What’s that joke about Argentina: English food, German …, Italian …, Spanish …?
You bring the zing! Good to see you, eCAHN.
tis the perfect new pope song… you should do a my diary with it for art saturday
Genuflect genuflect genuflect !!!
My knees are too old! Can’t do it. I do, however, miss the candles and the incense. Oh, well……….
My schedule is mixed up. Got a bunch of exercise, after winter lull, on Wednesday, took several naps on Thursday, now having can’t fall asleep again.
Having CB&C dinner on Sunday. I’m bringing dessert. Think I’ll make an angel food cake with green sugar mixed in the batter, white icing with kelly green drizzled over. A little green creme de menthe in the green icing.
Good stuff — am embarrassed to admit I’ve never heard of Koko Taylor before.
Have just been doing routine errands — got a haircut today, someone came over and fixed a file drawer that wasn’t working this afternoon, tomorrow am getting the car detailed. Exciting stuff.
the time change still has me sleeping later than i want to be…
And a Jesuit, Dearie. Named for St. Francis of Assisi
Don’t do diaries anymore, but on a serious note, here’s the best article I’ve seen on Francis to date. R.C. PTB involved in Argentine Dirty Wars.
dood, you need some wang dang
St. Francis of Assisi
Founder of Franciscans, though Frankie is a Jesuit.
Just part of Lehrer’s parody, Dearie. Like the Eagles used to sing – take it kneeeeeezy, take it kneeeeezy …
let the juke joint jump
Assisi was mentioned as opposed to another Francis from the Jesuit line – NPR today. Ignatius founded the Jesuit Order. They also described his connection with Argentina’s military junta era.
Buy incense & candles, put Mozart’s requiem on your stereo, light former, listen to latter. Accompany with plenty of sacred wine and little white bread ovals. Salted variety would prolly taste better.
no dissin’ the knees dood *laughing*
Or Francis Ignatius Loyola (of “God’s Marines”)/
I do rather like the Jesuits for their intellectualism. But I will be curious to see what Bergoglio, the Argentine Italian, brings to the Papacy. Not that I actually care all that much…. just curious.
If we Americans can’t stand up to our own outta control politicians, I don’t imagine that my former pals in the the Catholic Crew will be able to much about whatever the new guy brings to the party. Apparently he will not be wearing red Gucci shoes.
Like Neil Young sang, Suzzzz – this bud’s for you!
Yep. So what is the inside BB in that story? Inquiring minds…
My other two burning Qs:
1. Malvinas or Falklands?
2. What color will Fankie’s papal shoes be? Only the pope’s shoemaker knows for sure.
un papa americano
hahahaha when’s your next century ride?
Also good stuff. Just looked up Koko Taylor on Wikipedia; I’m a fan now.
she could belt the blues — her i’d rather go blind is as good as ettas
There’s a big percentage of America that’s been sold on the benefits of restoring all the sectarianism, tribalism, and religious absolutism of the Medieval period, a deification of anti-enlightenment.
from 2 years ago per the utube… sure seems topical now that the pope is an americano – albeit a south americano
I’ll check that out at some point. Well, just parachuted in to say hi and, having done so, will now make like a tree and leave.
A sudamericano of Italiano background. The Italians got what they wanted and more, more, more. It’s all kind of silly, really, but we’ll see how it plays out.
This Argentinian pope is known for modest living. No limos, no palaces, etc. We’ll see how this new power affects his humility.
It’s interesting. I know very few actual practicing Roman Catholics. I’m in a band of lapsed. We took my grandbabies to Italy to be baptized…. and that was lovely. But they haven’t been to church since. Which is, sorry to say, quite all right with me. So strange, really, how the RCC has failed Americans.
Gresham’s law: Bad religion drives out good.
Humility is overrated. It’s his politics that suck.
Primavera Century in late April, Suzzz – back & forth & around Calaveras Reservoir. Should be beautiful if the rains last for another month with green mountains & wild flowers everywhere,
i agree… i hope but i’m enough of a cynic to not be hopeful
late april should be great! before the hills lose their green and turn baby diaper yellow
One person’s baptism is another’s exorcism, eCAHN?
Turning in. Gnite all & be well.
I’ll bet the Romans felt the same about Jesus, that dissident, community organizer.
Night, eCAHN – be well.
So we all have to find meaning in our religious observances and guidance from our traditions on how to live in this world, eh?
Well, yeah, we all need to do our own thing, as it were. “:)~
its your thing
What I mean, of course, is that if the established church is coming after women and covering up for pedophiles and making a mockery of what Jesus actually supposedly said, then, yes, we should all go forth and try to do the best we can without becoming slaves to the organized. I’m okay with that.
tis about time for me to let token out to save a blade of grass pups. thank you for stopping by tonight and letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya
The three Abrahamic Religions have a massive marketing problem …. One God.
So rather than a building a big tent where everyone is welcome to believe and worship together in their own ways, we get Inquisitions, Jihads, drone strikes …
Agreed, Dearie. What would Jesus do? A very uncomfortable question for any institution that tolerates such inhumanity,
Night, Suzzzz – be well.
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
And here I just get back from my weekly GA…! *sigh*
I think this works now
i got it
