The Bush family, like the Plantagenets with a bottomless supply of Richard the Thirds.
The country managed to survive broccoli-hating George H.W. Bush without too much damage and then there was his son. The less said the better.
The family always thought that Jeb should be the President, and Jeb is promptly eschewing every principle he pretended to have in trying to do so.
First, he managed to be both malevolent and hilarious in dropping his previous positions on immigration to make them tolerable to the right-wing rabble in Iowa and New Hampshire.
And now, there’s this:
“Yes. You know, a lot of things in history change over time. I think people will respect the resolve that my brother showed, both in defending the country and the war in Iraq. But history will judge that in a more objective way than today. The war has wound down now and it’s still way too early to judge what success it had in providing some degree of stability in the region.”
I’d say his brother couldn’t have said it better, but he has already said that many times, just badly.
And, of course, history is vindicating that Iraq decision all the time.
Ten years and $60 billion in American taxpayer funds later, Iraq is still so unstable and broken that even its leaders question whether U.S. efforts to rebuild the war-torn nation were worth the cost.

JEB! still looks like a rocket scientist, when he’s standing next to his brother.
sixty billion? Puh-leeze. someone is going to read that and believe it is the total cost, when it is not even a tenth of the admitted costs, much less the actual cost.

Never mind the intangible costs.
I take comfort in the fact to to many in the GOP, somebody with the radioactive name of “Bush” is the great hope for the party.
JEB! is a decoy. It’s still Ryan’s turn.
Dunno. JEB is certainly a player if he wants to be. Ryan may well get a lot of grass roots money, but the big money will go right to Bush if he decides to run.
Boxturtle (He’s already pandering to the tea party. Heh)
Good morning, pups. Today we’ve got Keller and Krugman. Mr. Keller has a question in “Private Manning’s Confidant:” What if WikiLeaks’s source had given his secrets to The New York Times? It’s a spectacularly self-serving piece. Prof. Krugman, in “Dwindling Deficit Disorder,” says there is no need for America’s long-run fiscal concerns to drive its budget policy today.
Here they are, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. The idea of another Bush anywhere near the White House makes my blood run cold. However, so does the idea of any of the “leaders” of the current crop of rabid weasels that call themselves a Republican party. Wouldn’t it be grand if a progressive ran? (Yeah, I have a very rich fantasy life…) Have a great day.
Thanks, attaturk, history will be the judge is a great line, but does not have a basis in reality for the right since they’ve set up their own media and ‘think tanks’ to make it what works for them.
Thanks, Marion, it’s up to the NYT to keep the public from knowing stuff that would make them make decisions Keller hasn’t approved. The other side of that coin is that leaks are against the public interest as he knows it. Sorta funny, and isn’t it perfect that Google is celebrating Douglas Adams’ birthday, very good reflection on the reality syndrome, whatever makes you glad.
Let’s not forget Samuel Bush, Prescott Bush and Neil “S &L” Bush. I’m guessing the evil went even further back than Sam.
The Times did publish The Pentagon Papers back in the day, but that was when they were still worthy of respect.
Yes, thanks, and before Keller was self-appointed moral arbiter.
What is known about the Bsuh empire and what gets into print (including here) are 2 different things. Why wouldn’t Dick Cheney run amoke as VP when he had a chance to finally make the big empire sized money? It was after all “his due”, and after working for Jerry Ford, it knew the real story about the Bush’s. Everyone will go along as long as they’re making money (war) or are cowed.
I find this analogy to Richard III disrespectful to every self-respecting dictatormonarch. Atleast Richard III won battles, up until the last one.
Ironically speaking about monarchs is that there was no more plantagets after the Duke of York. If there is another Bush, im effin moving to Canada!!
If you think about it, it’s incredible that one family is basically running America.
More like a bottomless supply of Richard’s worthless older brother George, Duke of Clarence. Richard did sensible things like have the legal code written in English wherever possible and safeguard things like the right to bail and the right of juries to do their work without intimidation. George did things like falsely blame (and then execute) his wife Isabel’s lady-in-waiting Ankarette Twynyho for allegedly poisoning Isabel — an act that was likely was one of the final straws for his eldest surviving brother, King Edward IV.
Yeah! Lay off Richard III! He was an exemplary citizen and a far better ruler than anyone in the Bush Crime Family (who, incidentally, are more like the Tudors).
