a dry day here. token and i took a ride earlier this afternoon and actually had some sun for a bit.
Pleasant day. High around 40, around freezing now.
Reading a great book titled The War Lovers. Received it as bday present last Oct, got lost, randomly shelved during putaway preceding goose dinner on 1/5 and not resurfaced until last week, despite heroic search efforts on my part. Up to p. 230/400, fast read, gossipy, & Thomas writing kewl, though too much presentism, i.e. makes Lodge, TR sound like neocons, except as everyone knows, TR was not a chickenhawk. Tally ho, they loved them some wars. Poor widdle McKinley was outflanked by war party. Interesting take on U.S. invasion of Cuba. Worth slotting in the POV history of U.S.
amazon negative reviews take umbrage with “biased” portrait of TR.
I won an essay contest on TR in 8th grade (1958) wh got me a trip to D.C. and my first time on an airplane, one of the highlights of my life.
About time I delved into who TR really was.
Jesus Is Just Alright…
TR was not a chickenhawk.
Most people who have served in combat, tend to see the folly of war…!
I haven’t seen any movies in past year.
I did see (can’t find link) that presstv thought Argo was a bit off.
The main beef was that it was the Canadians, and not the CIA that actually extracted them from Tehran…!
Eight Miles High…
TR was the reverse, wh is the main point of the book. TR, Cabot Lodge, with propaganda help from Hearst, couldn’t wait to start them some warz and kill them some savages. Proved the manhood vs. their perception of the degrading fopishnees infecting USin 1890s.
The diff betw those war mongers & neocons, is that a few of them, namely TR, actually galloped up San Juan hill (or whatever piece of geography it actually was), vs. Rummy, Cheney who hid out in granite bldgs inside the Beltway.
TR was uninstructed after Cuba. His son Kermit loved overthrowing Mossedegh. Great romp, apple didn’t fall far from tree.
Extracted who from Tehran? I thought Carter’s scheme crashed & burned in Iranian desert and hostages were released from Tehran after Carter was defeated.
Did Canadians rescue US “rescuers” from the desert? Not familiar with that part of history.
Turn, Turn, Turn…
From wiki… “Six American diplomats did however avoid capture and found refuge at the nearby Canadian and Swedish embassies in Tehran for three months (Canadian caper). A joint Canadian government–Central Intelligence Agency covert operation managed to smuggle them out of Iran using Canadian passports and a cover story disguising them as a Canadian film crew on January 28, 1980.[40]“
Mr Tambourine Man…
Thanks, CT. Didn’t know that part of the story.
Hey Joe…
Chimes Of Freedom Live…
