But learning is not their strong suit.
Rep. John “Jimmy” Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.) said he doesn’t know if he will vote for a renewal of the Violence Against Women Act…
“Like most men, I’m more opposed to violence against women than even violence against men,” Duncan said. “Because most men can handle it a little better than a lot of women can.”
Yep, he said that.

Thanks for this, Attaturk.
Tennessee is a beautiful state with some fine people. We actually were thinking of moving there a few years ago. (family there)
Now……. no. It’s not just Tenn. either. Was the “southern strategy” to de-educate the next and future generations ? PEACE
Barnacles like Duncan are going to turn the rest of the country into a disaster for the Republican party.
I see teabaggers. I see opportunity.
But wait! Methinks the guy is actually trying to sound sane.
Note how the statement is loaded with modifiers that are meant to sound reasonable–“Because MOST men can handle it A LITTLE BETTER than A LOT OF women can.” All those modifiers may be the Republicans’ pathetic version of trying to soften their speech.

They don’t think they have anything to learn and don’t view this nonsense as demeaning. In their tiny little minds women, people of color, ‘the poors’ and anyone else that isn’t rich and white just don’t measure up.
He probably doesn’t even realize what he said and won’t understand the need to issue a clarification.
Nevertheless, I’d expect a clarification sometime today.
Boxturtle (Sometimes, the clarification just digs ‘em in deeper)
Good morning, pups. Today Friedman is flying solo since MoDo is off. Let’s see… Tommy’s done a few columns on his flat earth/connectivity fixation, so it must be time for another one on the Arab Spring. Presto! Here he is with (FSM help us, what a title) “The Belly Dancing Barometer,” in which he says democracy definitely isn’t easy. Just look at how Egypt today is more divided than ever.
Here he is, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes for breakfast. I slept a bit late, and Wednesday is our early morning day, so I’ve got to dash off and feed kittehs, get tea, and then get on with the rest of the day. Have a great day.
Fixed it for ya! Somebody like this gets elected, it hurts the entire country.
Boxturtle (If it wasn’t for the gerrymander, we wouldn’t be worrying about the GOP in congress)
That’s the scary part. I think you’re right. That GOPer actually put some thought into what he was saying.
Boxturtle (but his true colors came through anyway)
Actually, his statement is correct, I think. But how does that conclusion
make him hesitate in his vote….Giving me a headache.
Good Morning folks….
Thanks, attaturk, the wimmen need to handle that thinking thingie, they’re obviously better at it than most of the men in GOPland.
Thanks, Marion, the wimmen handle the belly dancin’ thingie best, too.
Nice Krugman observation;
‘Republicans, in particular, would wait maybe a minute before trying to renege on any bargain that raises rather than cuts taxes on the wealthy, and that leaves the basic structure of Medicare and Social Security intact. So grand-bargain negotiations are, in practice, just an attempt to create facts on the ground for future confrontations, not a good-faith effort to secure the nation’s fiscal future.’
Sad but ever so true.
I saw a male belly dancer once, when delivering pizza to a bachlorette party. It took a lot of counseling, and some of the drugs were experimental, but I’m better now.
Boxturtle (The dancer had a mascot costume bears head on, not much else)
Too true. Why Obama continues to try to deal fairly with them escapes me. I’d make ‘em fight their darn culture war publicly and let America see how foolish they really are.
Boxturtle (Women don’t deal with violence well, yet we have women soldiers)
I know you were not expecting rational….Goes without saying.
Translation; men don’t deal well with violence, but we hate for the wimmen to get it right.
Yeah. What’s worse is wimmem generally deal with violence without gunfire. The idea that violence doesn’t have to be countered with violence really upsets some GOPers.
Boxturtle (that line about “turn the other cheek” must be in some other Bible)
Are you, suh, questioning the delicacy of “the flower of our nation’s womanhood”? I demand satisfaction!
In your guts, you know they’re nuts. Teabaggers make 2014 equal to 1998. They were never any good at math, either.
Your numbers need work. That’s 1698.
I don’t see what is correct about his statement. Women “handle” much more violence everyday than men do. At home and away.
Rehabilitation has been achieved.
Now, about that knuckle-dragging thingie…
Agreed, but then, I’ve learned not expect logic from any politician
