Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), who threatened President Obama with impeachment over his plan to reduce gun violence, has offered a ticket to the State of the Union to Ted Nugent — whose criticism of the president once resulted in a sitdown with the Secret Service.
“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” Stockman said in a statement Monday. “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”
Yeah, I’m sure this pair of invitees would be happy not to hear it:
A White House official says the parents of a Chicago teenager slain just days after performing during President Barack Obama’s inauguration will attend his State of the Union speech.
Hadiya Pendleton, 15, was shot to death Jan. 29 in a park close to the Obama’s Chicago home. Police say a gunman hopped a fence and opened fire on a group of young people.
And which one will our Villagers point their cameras at?
You know the answer already.

About Firedoglake
Ted Nugent provides vital representation for the mean-crazy-stupid wing of the Republican Party. That’s as important as Michele Bachmann representing the crazy-stupid-mean wing, or Louie Gohmert representing the mean-stupid-crazy wing.
Sometimes you can’t tell the players without a scorecard.
You know Ted won’t be able to keep his foul mouth shut. It might be worth watching just to see him escorted out while he shouts invectives.
I can hardly wait for the YouTube video of Ted being strip-searched.

In your guts you know they’re nuts.
Good morning all,
Because of the gun laws inability to control guns, did you hear about the gun shoot out yesterday in a German , Japanese and an American courtroom ? Me neither.
Will the president include a laugh line about drones tonight ? Sure seems funny to some in congress , yuk ,yuk yuck !
Good morning, pups. Today we have Brooks, Cohen, Nocera and Bruni. In “Carpe Diem Nation” Bobo says here’s hoping President Obama will frame his State of the Union address in terms of the present vs. the future. Mr. Cohen has decided to explain to us all “Why ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Works.” He says the charge of inaccuracy is a poor thing measured against the potency of artistic truth. In “The ‘Die Hard’ Quandary” Mr. Nocera has a question: Can kids really watch gun violence all hours of the day and remain unaffected? Mr. Bruni has stolen another one of MoDo’s columns. In “A Spritz of Power” he giggles that if our lawmakers are going to preen, they might as well do it fragrantly.
Here they are, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins today. I wonder if any of the Teatards will decide that it’s appropriate to try to exercise their second amendment rights at the SOTU. It would be gratifying to watch Ted Nugent being hauled off in cuffs… Have a great day.
I’m not sure what Stockman hopes to accomplish with this. The BEST he can hope for is that Ted sits quietly through the speech, then gives an inflammatory response while Stockman stands behind and looks uncomfortable.
It’s much more likely he’ll be removed forcibly, screaming invectives and threatening violence when anyone comes to take his guns.
Boxturtle (Of course, with Ted anything is possible. He’ll likely be the most informally dressed there)
Why sit through the whole speech? Whatever Ted does, They’ll have a highlight reel tomorrow.
Boxturtle (What Obama says is irrelevant. We have to watch what he does)
Let it be shouted from the rooftops to the Bobby Jindals and Jeb Bushes of the world — they will relinquish the mean, and the crazy, and the stupid, when you pry them from their cold, dead souls.
Pretty much my opinion on the subject. Besides, I have a new Battlestar Galactica movie on my dvr, waiting for me to watch.
Gotta go to work.
Why is it when I see SOTU I read STFU?
Boxturtle (Perhaps reading between the lines ain’t as tough as some think)
and to Margaret @ 10
My sentiments exactly. It sounds like the Stockman-Nugent thing is a setup to get people like me who avoid politicians’ speeches to tune in. But I’ve got the second half of the latest episode of “Nashville” saved on Comcast On Demand. (It is annoying that ABC disables the fast forward in its On Demand offerings so you have to sit through the commercials, but the trick is if you wait a week they cut out about 10 minutes of them.) After that I’ll see what else is available; maybe a Sundance Channel movie.
BTW, BT, I left a link about a 62-year old albatross that still raises chicks on your Monday Science before the last one, 2 days late.
Ah, BoxTurtle, I know precisely what you mean.
As well, consider some of President Obama’s words, and promises, from the last SOTU:

It is the actions, far more than the words, which are the measure …

Thanks attaturk, how divisive of the Pres. to make life easier. What we need is more uglies fighting the government.
I missed that, I normally check Over Easy Science for the last time Tuesday sometime. I’d miss anything after that. 62yo?!? I didn’t even know they lived that long!
Boxturtle (Another educational victory for the University of FDL!)
Make life easier for whom?
Boxturtle (he’s still better than Mitt would be)
Wow, Amen, Box
Nugent is a shiny thing.
Nothing he does tonight will affect anyone’s life unless they choose to have it affect them. I choose not to.
A Republican who puts a (D) after his name does more damage than a Republican who runs and governs openly as a Republican.
Amen!
You’re not living in WI, I presume. I’ll see your wager and raise you one Scott (John Doe) Walker. ;)
