About Firedoglake
happy friday pups!
happy weekend, Suz.
hey dearie — do you have plans for the weekend?
My plans for this weekend are to rest up for my next week of work! And, of course, a visit with daughter and her family and with my dad. Sunday will be a day of rest. Lots of work coming up…. good! But, also, too, I’m getting a bit old to do all the driving around to be where I’m needed….. lots of stayovers and lots of not sleeping in my own bed. It’s all good…. and I’m so glad to be employed. No complaints.
as i have aged, i have come to appreciate those days of rest much more than i did when i was working full time– and let me tell ya, i certainly appreciated them back then!
Hi tonight I was on the Rick smith talking about Firearms and RW media.
I think it went okay, but I need to practice talking my points out loud more often.
Too much time in my head or writing not enough saying things out loud.
We were at a lovely dinner party tonight. It was actually a wine tasting too, where each couple had to bring a wine with a blend of at least three grapes or more. The really fun thing is that it allowed us to bring some of the cheapest red wines we all enjoy from the grocery store. Snowed a bit today. Glad I’m not in Boston!
hey spocko — have you tried speaking them into a tape recorder and then playing them back. i h-a-t-e the sound of my voice but had no idea that when i spoke there were lotsa pauses and ahs and uhms etc.
is the interview gonna be posted online?
hey ce — sounds like a wonderful party! what was your favorite wine? i worry about our new england pups.. i hope everyone is ok…
i’ve never been in a big snowstorm… being in one is on my bucket list.
I’m great on paper too, and then standing in front of a group, I almost panic before I do just fine.
So true. I was talking with my older daughter this afternoon…. she’s wrangling 3 little kids (whom she dearly loves, for sure) while holding down a full time job. She’s tired. All I could say is, “It gets better.” Wouldn’t it be wonderful if society actually respected mothers!
I was listening to folks from Finland and South Korea talk about how their educational systems work (and why they are so successful!) on NPR (which liberals have taken to trashing lately)…. and the nurturing and assistance to children and families is wonderful and certainly points to why they are at the top of the educational pyramid.
The USA is not, sadly, the country I grew up in. I guess I should be thankful for being a kid of the 1950s….. never thought I’d think that.
OMG you can’t believe it when it happens. In the last really big one (about 4 years ago) I had to struggle about five blocks with bags of cat food and work backpacks. Took me an hour and I ended up in tears.
same here… i had no idea how far downhill we were going to fall. i fucking hate slippery slopes
i don’t wanna be outside in it… i wanna be all safe and warm and comfy inside and watching it through the windows… ideally, i would be all settled in at the location and then the storm would hit and rage ferociously outside with snow piling up. of course, magically, it would all poof when it was time for me to leave…
Hi Suz! I love this show…reminds me of reading Sesame Street book to sons.
hey margot — so glad ya liked it. how’s the wilds of ohio tonight?
Talked with my sister and BIL out on Cape Cod this afternoon to be assured that their generator was serviced and that their larder was filled. They are ready for some down time. I went through some big storms when I lived in Chicago in the 70s, and I know from snow! Just gotta be ready for some downtime.
Heh heh, of course! That snow I struggled through was up to my knees (granted that isn’t very high) but it was a tough slog when one’s boots are only ankle high. I have to say that we love watching snowstorms from inside the house! Rage on storm, we are safe and cozy inside.
The East is anticipating some high winds. I’m hoping they won’t suffer downed trees and such.
i was chatting with a friend earlier whose has family back there — they are hunkered down with a full pantry and plenty of wood for the wood stove. my friend said her sister said she was looking forward to the down time and no one visiting for a bit *laughing* i could totally appreciately that home alone bit….
We have a bit of wind blowing, colder than yesterday. Not bad though. I hope you’re keeping warm.
Good night:)
exactly! of course, there is that whole doctor zhivago horse drawn sleigh thing to work in too
electric baseboard heat has me toasty!
g’nite margot
Standing in front of the museum at 5:00 pm tonight, I watched the wind sweep up snow from the grass into tiny tornadoes — they danced over the ground for a few seconds and poof! Gone! They were all over the circle.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups, when I told the Better Half it’ll be worse than 1978′s Blizzard, she grasped the severity of the Storm…! It looks wicked already…!
Gotta laugh! Sometimes we introverted types just love when Mother Nature gives us some peace and quiet!!
OMG one of my favorite films of all time.
that sounds so pretty ce! did you take any pictures?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? its a wicked pissah of a storm for sure….
I did not — it was really hard to see! And since I can’t even capture clouds, I did not even try.
your pictures on facebook are so pretty…
Wet, cold and blustery, but I ain’t bitching…! ;-)
back when i was an extrovert type, i found that when mother nature forced me to slow down and take it easy, it also took away any guilt for being a slug….
how much longer will soggy season last?
Aw, thanks! I have one from my host’s table — I’ll post it now.
Today, Mick Fleetwood and Steven Tyler testified at the State Capitol, for the anti-papparazzi bill they’re
fundingdemanding…!they can get so outta hand… i wudda thought that after pricess di’s death the brakes wudda been put on the paparazzi
But, Suz, the bill is so poorly written that it’ll never survive past the first challenge…! It really is a crappy bill…!
so…….
any suggestions for a cartoon for tomorrow night? any character ya’ll wanna see?
Good evening Suz, and to the other fine firepups at lln! I feel sorry for those people in Boston!
*sigh* yeah…. but if it gets the conversation started maybe it will end up a decent bill. i heard that one guy was killed down in la last month trying to get a picture of a car that a celebrity might have been in… and was not.
hey past — how’s utah tonight?
We shall see, Suz…! Tomorrow is when the Capitol will be really hopping, the State Senate is holding it’s first(and only) public testimony on the vile PLDC, should be most interesting…!
Hola, Suz and llners! Best name I’ve seen for the storm: Snowtorious B.I.G.
bg! i fucking love that!!! of course, token dayam near wore some of my coffee
how’s new mexico tonight?
We’re still waiting for the snowstorm that didn’t happen; supposed to have 5 to 8 inches in the valley by morn, but all so far is a light dusting. I think it’s stalled up north for a bit. OK by me!
fingers and toes crossed tut…. is occupy hilo going to be there?
Yesterday I worked in the yard all day, today it was too nasty, cold and windy.
how much snow do ya normally get past? has this winter given you more or less?
I believe one of us is planning on being there, most of us will be testifying by Video Conferencing here in Hilo…! ;-)
I’ve already submitted written testimony myself…!
Condom history via Trojan Company. Disclosure, the first guy is MrCE.
kewl
don’t really know how much is typical for the valley, but the snowpack in the mtns is approaching 100 inches, which is pretty normal for this time of year. I’d say it’s like a normal year for us in the valley.
oh my! what a great speaking voice! mr ce is good looking too :)
glad to hear its normal somewhere :) weather is so forked up in so many places… gw was in last night and it was 85 at her place in tx… way warmer than usual.
For an old guy, pretty cute! He really knows his history.
A handsome Gent, Christine…!
For 62, not bad! He did say that they covered him with makeup.
he has a confidence when speaking — ya just know he knows what he is talking about and not just blowing smoke like those talking head tv pundits do
We had a great “unhealthy air” rally Wednesday at the state capitol, then 100 or so proceeded to the guv’s office where Utah Mom’s for a Healthy Environment delivered their petition.
We plan to occupy the guv’s office next Wed afternoon, with the hope it might develop into a weekly thing.
jeebus that’s a horrible picture of the smog….
you gonna diary about it past?
Right on, Past…!
That’s cool, Christine. MrCE is an impressive speaker, congrats to him!
Thanks for saying so — he is such a smart man and loves his work. The history of medicine and of women in particular is a priority for him.
Yes, he does. That man made me speak French with proper accents. Married Feb. 15, 1975.
token is waiting patiently by the front door to go out and save a blade of grass… thank you for letting me hang out here with ya tonight
g’nite all
*wowsers* Emergency declared at Pilgrim Nuke Power plant as ‘Blizzicane’ hits Boston…
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Ooh, you got an anniversary coming up next week; congrats on a long successful marriage!
Sweet dreams, Suz, sleep well!
Thanks! So long, I can’t even do the math.
that’s kind of scary! Wonder if they have adequate generator power to back-up the cooling system!
Good morning, pups. Today we’ve got Blow, Nocera and Collins. Everyone has questions today. In ” ‘Suicide Conservatives’ ” Mr. Blow asks his: What’s a party that has lost its way to do? Mr. Nocera has his question in “Innovation Nation at War:” Can one federal judge put a stop to the dumb smartphone patent battles? Ms. Collins ponders “Fitness for Office:” How do we measure a good governor? Some people seem to think physical fitness and waist size is a good place to start.
Here they are, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah this morning. I hope that everyone in the northeast is okay. That looks like one NASTY storm, and hard on the heels of Sandy… But, as we all know, climate change is a myth and Al Gore is fat. Have a great day.
