About Firedoglake
Thanks, Ellie, of course you have to have left it out, where’s World’s Leading Authority McAyn?
Good morning, pups. Today we have Cohen, Friedman and Bruni. Life is good. The Pasty Little Putz and MoDo are off today. Mr. Cohen has a question in “Israel’s Mr. Normal.” He says Yair Lapid has to get past nothingness. What about the settlements? The Moustache of Wisdom is in New Delhi. It’s another ode to “connectivity.” He gurgles that the access to technology has expanded the expectations of many Indians, and others around the world. In “My Grandfather the Outlaw” Mr. Bruni says chapters in the immigration saga change. The risks and hopes stay the same.
Here they are, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got chocolate croissants with fresh fruit this morning. I’m one of those rare beasts who find feetsball staggeringly boring, so I won’t be glued to my teebee for Superbowl MMXCLIII or whatever number it is. However, I hope that your favorite team wins. As an aside, it turns out that I did remember how to make bread and the whole wheat loaves yesterday turned out well. YAY!!! Have a great day.
Thanks, Marion. Israel’s normal is not operative as the country just bombed a Syrian facility and we’re just finding out about it. Actually, I rather it be Israel than us.
‘Syria says Israeli fighter jets bombed a scientific research centre in Jamraya, north-east of Damascus, killing two and wounding five.’
Ehud Barak has made remarks acknowledging it was their doing.

Pull Up A Pundit! Think I’ll skip the Sunday shows. Nothing looks very appealing.
Good Morning, Ellie, Ruth, Marion
Thanks for the news and I think I’d like to try a slice of the homemade wheat bread. I heard recently that all bread is bad for our bods, but I will not give up bread. I love bread. That’s just the way it is.
Hey! Here at the same exact time? It’s almost like we planned it.
How about Pummel a Pundit, new game?
Like one of those games where the little heads pop up at different times from holes….whack a mole?
The funny part is when you hit them on the head and they don’t feel it, never affect a reaction.
Hating on bread is not for me. Put in all the grains and seeds and nuts in the world, and it’s health food. I will not believe otherwise.
I could support that. Glad you made it safely to PA.
No brain, no pain….
That was just the other day, but I’ve already forgot what the source for that was.
I have to go out later to get chips and beer. I do. And, I’ve just added Raisen Bread to my list. Doesn’t that sound good for breakfast? Toasted with butter.
Sometimes I think people just like to complain about something. Anything.
And, speaking about food some more, I thought your suggestion of visiting the salad bar at the grocery store was One Excellent Tip. Made sense to me.
I figured you’d have fun with that.
So cute and smart cookie. (And, less pain cookie.)
Safe,Sound, all snowy

Yum. Had maple syrup on a whole wheat crumpet. Getting spoiled past bearing it.
I didn’t have a superbowl favorite until both teams spent the previous week staking out their LGBT positions. Somewhat counter intuitively, the San Fransisco 49s seem to be a team composed of homophobes while the Ravens as a team are supportive of equality. That little aspect of it isn’t enough to make me watch though, I still plan to watch the Walking Dead or read my book during the game but at least now I have someone to cheer for.
oooooh! Pretty!
Oh, you’ll bear it, I’m sure.
Sonny put maple syrup on a bacon sandwich the other morning.
Comfort food anyone?
Doesn’t that look like a Holiday Card? Maybe our Ruth will start a new hobby making cards. I can just see it. A little roadside stand with hand crafted goodies. Ms. Ruth sittin’ there, like a peacock under a hand made quilt.
Ah, the inspiration of Pennsylvania.
What are you presently reading?
This thread of course. And pull up your cat, the news, etc. ;)
But seriously, I don’t know what I’m reading yet because I haven’t made it to the bookstore yet but I have an errand or two that I have to run today so I’ll hit Half Priced Books on the way home.
Groan. I meant which book?
I’m reading a book where there’s three women, an FBI profiler and two who work with cops to find serial killers. There’s some conspiracy with nerve gas and the women have to save the world. Totally escapism. But, fun.
Yeah, I know. But like I said, I don’t have one just yet. I finished what I was reading, (The Swarm), and I have to go out later so I’ll make a stop at the bookstore.
Margaret, I hope you are feeling better today.
Hey, the book from yesterday Book Salon is fantastic…you may want to look
at some of the comments. Hope you’re doing OK….
Thanks! I’ll look into it.
I’m feeling much better, thanks, though one of the things I have to go out for is a pro biotic supplement because these antibiotics are going to eradicate everything in my intestine. I’m not supposed to remain upright and/or sitting for long periods until tomorrow but compared to how I felt last week, I think I could dance.
You’re welcome…I’ll be with you during the game…grocery, movie, reading, or cleaning house. See ya’
I am glad to hear that you are feeling better. If you find that book that you want to read, you can do it sitting up or walking around. *g*
Seriously, it is good that you are feeling better than last week. Never fun to be sick.
Dancing comes later. Glad you are better though. I like yoghurt for filling up on all healthy stuff.
Yeah, I’ve tried but can’t do teh yoghurt. For the same reason I can’t eat guacamole. Nothing to do with the taste but it’s the consistency that triggers my gag reflex somehow. On the other hand, I haven’t tried yoghurt as a dip…. Hmmmm…..
And I just want to be able to get back on my bike!
Here is the source — it was in my Friday OE post. Believe it or not…
14 Foods You Should Cut From Your Diet, #6
Yogurt does make a fine dip, for carrots or chips. You can add either a premade package of herbs and stuff or you can just add your own to some plain yogurt.
Thanks, Molly. Adding that to my Favorites. It’s a good source even if I’m adamant about excluding bread from my diet. :)
Thinking carrots and celery…. Gonna get some and try it!
Sliced apples also like to be dipped in yogurt. A little sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
Gosh, I can feel the extra pounds just melting away as we type.
I can agree with a lot of that but I’m not going to cut out bread or corn.
Now that sounds almost yummy.
Also toast fingers, if you dare to eat the bread! (teasing)
Forget the Buffalo Wings in your picture, Elliott, I just turned on Chris Hayes and there are some great looking pastries on the table. But I’d already eaten (2 eggs, 2 store-bought toasted waffles, OJ, and coffee) because, unlike Marion @ 2, I have to fortify myself before facing the news. (Thus Bertolt Brecht: Erst kommt das Fressen, dann kommt die Morale.)
BTW what do you have against listing Melissa Harris-Perry, who comes on right after CH?
P.S. The previous comments about food came on while I was writing this. Some of them sound good too.
Good Morning everyone,
On footballs and reading, a book suggestion and another reason for understanding what cultural meaning is being preached behind the sports world. Mal also has a couple of good diaries about our traveling, “governor,” if you click back to his home page.
And leaves you wondering what one can eat? Carefully, huh?
Good Morning Ruth,
Another couple weeks and you’ll be out cooking down maple sap. The sunset picture looks to be showing a pair of truck toppers insulated and re-purposed as animal shelters. Great idea if that is what I am seeing.
I can’t eat avocado either, probably because of the texture, but I do like yogurt. It is more like sour cream to me than guacamole. Try Chobani Greek nonfat yogurt with fruit in it. YUM.
That what’s the animals that have adopted them think, too. I’m pushing for early plants starting there, but haven’t been here a whole week yet.
I don’t eat a lot of bread, and I bake my own, so at least it’s not full of preservatives. But according to the author, it’s the grains which were engineered decades ago to increase crop yields that are the culprit, so I’m sure the grains for my flour are a problem.
I’m not a big bread eater but I love pasta and I’d bet some of the same engineered grains are in that, too.
Just looked in the fridge and found something I bought the other day that I forgot about. Stonemill Greek Yougurt Dip – Dill and cucumber feta.
Looks like I’ll be adding celery to my short list for today. Maybe some flat bread chips.
I like Rev Bev’s comment at 42.
We can quit all the bad habits and poisoned fish and burgers with horsemeat and that won’t stop that bus or meteor from crashing.
You know that I strive to feed my family as healthy as I can. I even planted some more lettuce that past week. But, sometimes I just want a slice of pizza or a BLT, ya know?
Moderation is the key I think.
Whether or not I get through a small to-do list today, I’ll likely be relaxing to this group of Sunday talking heads this evening. Have a good day people.
I love it that a thread about talking heads on Super Bowl Sunday has morphed into a discussion of food.
But as to football, in what the rest of the world calls football Mali knocked host country South Africa out of the African Cup of Nations yesterday, which is a rather big deal. You can learn this by watching al-Jazeera or France24 (maybe the BBC for all I know), but not by reading the Washington Post in particular. It prides itself on its coverage of “soccer,” meaning the local team DC United and its league, the English Premier League, the exploits of Lionel Messi for Barcelona, and the globe-trotting of an over-the-hill David Beckham, but Africa is not on its radar. (Last year it missed one of the great cinderalla stories in the history of sports, when the extreme underdog Zambia won the Cup.)
Love the PBS series like this, and do not see why we can make old fuddy duddies look worthwhile, but no one does as good a job with our contemporaries.
thnx to Marian today and every day for reading the NYT so, like today, we don’t have to. One wonders if Mr Friedman has read Behind the Beautiful Forevers…or walked there.
- Prairie (Krugmanblogs rule)
Krugman rules, for sure. I’ve also taken to reading Robert Reich, New Economic Perspectives, and ProPublica.
Also CEPR, Taibbi, The Nation, and of course Charlie Pierce at Esquire.
And believe it or not, I really try to limit my online time. In the winter it’s harder, though, when it’s cold and snowy and the bicycle is on its rack for the winter. SIGH.
I’ve heard about that but haven’t watched. I probably can pick up back episodes online, right?
Hmm. I thought that we might have a Sunday without McGrumpy being on on Sunday.
But I see we have his National Hispanic Co-Chair for John McCain’s 2008 as a stand in.
What are they going to talk about? The ten Hispanics in the Republican party?
‘What are they going to talk about? ‘
The new way of talking about hating on illegals that’s going to win them the votes they need to make laws to persecute them.
Wallace calls out LaPierre? Toxicity hits critical mass.
LaPee has become the Jimmy Hoffa of the National Radical Assoc. Is there any video of his thugs manhandling media on the way into his Senate testimony? The guy is a gangster.
Re: Football and Superbowl….sigh. God was having a Bad Day. Just
happens sometimes.
Between that and the local FOX affiliate as my two choices for the little viewing I do, it passes for sometimes required, mindless distraction cloaked in a theme. I’ll see NOVA, POV and a couple other shows as necessary because I get PBS reliably and at no charge.
Haha!
Bear in mind that, by “engineered”, this crank is referring to strains of wheat created by the ordinary means of selective breeding. But “engineered” makes it sound EEE-vil, sort of how recrystallizing sugar turns it from good to diabolical.
