If there’s a need, a Chinese entrepreneur will find a way.
The foul smog swallowing much of China has inspired one such man to launch a humorous campaign to focus on environmental issues — by selling canned fresh air.
Known for his showman flair, millionaire Chen Guangbiao stood on a Beijing sidewalk on Wednesday handing out cans filled with what he said was air procured from remote areas of the country untainted by air pollution, according to Reuters.
Mr. Guangbiao is doing this to make a point, a pro-environmental point.
But you can bet that if given a chance, the Koch Brother’s will have an oxygen-can plant operating the moment their lungs threaten to turn as black as their hearts.

About Firedoglake
Hey, we did that for the first Earth Day. Our air never got crazy bad, though.
I remember that , but if we don’t change our ways soon , the “crazy bad” is coming soon to a theater near you! Clean coal! HA! PEACE
Canned air? Sounds like Spaceballs.
Good morning, pups. Today we have Brooks and Krugman. Bobo is going to be drummed out of the Republican party and ridden out of town on a rail. In “The Easy Problem” he says taken on cold economic grounds alone, the case for immigration reform is a no-brainer. It’s amazing. He doesn’t moralize about the poor browns making sexy-time he doesn’t approve of, and there’s not a word about huge fences all along our southern border… Prof. Krugman has a question in “Looking for Mr. Goodpain:” Where are the austerity successes? Britain? Ireland? Keep looking.
Here they are. (Prof. Krugman did not post on his blog yesterday.)
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apricot scones this morning. I almost slept late this morning, but one of the cats (I think it was Boots) tossed a stuffed toy up on the bed and then pounced. On me. YOWZA! I’m most certainly awake now! More tea may bring my blood pressure back down a tad. Have a great day.
HEPA air filtration systems are already here. They’re guaranteed to remove 99.97% of particles greater than 0.3 micrometers. The PM 2.5 standard refers to particles less than 2.5 micrometers. Americans don’t buy canned air, we just buy filtering systems to clean dirty air.
And BTW, Koch Industries is already heavily invested in water filtration and purification through Koch Membrane Systems Inc. Just a matter of time before they expand into the air. There’s profit in them thar skies.
Thanks, attaturk, breathing is the first thing to go.
Thanks, Marion, no party capable of handling a drum, just the thing for Bobo to stumble on by happy accident.
They used to have oxygen shops in Tokyo. You could stop in and breath fresh air for awhile. Dunno if they’re still there.
Boxturtle (but anything is better than reducing automobile traffic, right?)
In today’s gun news…
At least it was a toy. I’ve woke up to discover headless mice on the pillow beside me.
Boxturtle (The cat was SO proud of herself)
That’ll be a popular story, as an armed guard stopped the student. Clearly, this makes a case for more armed guards in school.
The guard didn’t even draw his gun, subdued the student with no injuries to himself or others. That’ll be a point not mentioned often, I’ll bet.
Boxturtle (Someone will make the point a machine gun nest would have taken out the shooter before he shot)
In more gun news:
This guy sounds just like a few of my coworkers. They should fly Rush to Alabama to talk him down.
Or possibly Wayne LaPierre. I’ll bet Dykes’ NRA membership is fully paid up.
Ed Koch dead at 88.
Boxturtle (Apologies for the Faux link, they got a linkable story up first)
My cats leave their kills on the mat outside the back door, thank the FSM. (So far I’ve been given a small snake, 2 or 3 sparrows, and most of a squirrel.)
I don’t like the government, either. Nor do I like cops telling me where and when I can protest. And I’ve made no secret of my dislike of Obama. And I own guns.
Yet I do not beat dogs with pipes, threaten to shoot children, or patrol my year at night.
I don’t know that guns are the problem here. I might look at upbringing and war experiences.
Boxturtle (If there is a fund for that hero bus driver, I’ll send a check)
Here’s The New York Times instead of Faux Noise.
I love the government, it provides as much service as the congress will fund, and employs terrific people like hero bus drivers and my son, and makes it possible for me to travel safely to PA from TX where there is corrupted government for sale to the high bidder.
Many years ago, I let my cats out. I don’t do that anymore, both for their safety and mine.
Each morning, I’d open the front door and get my newspaper off the porch. One morning, There were seven headless rodents lined up neatly across the newspaper with a very smug cat sitting beside them. I told the cat “Good kitty. Now I don’t want to see them when I get out of the shower”. After the shower, I showed up at the door with my trash bag and rubber gloves to pick ‘em up. The bodies were gone. The cat was ready to come in. The front page was a mess.
Boxturtle (Thanks, Kitty. I don’t want to know what happened to them)
All good points. But for every good point you make, I think i can make a bad one.
The government is schizo. They do a lot of good and they do a lot of evil. I’m a natural pessimist, I see the evil first.
Boxturtle (I’m not sure TX is more for sale than DC. I think they’re both available for a price)
And Limbaugh.
And Glenn Beck.
And Fox News.
And the legion of right wing crazies.
And the NRA.
Anonymous or Wikileaks needs to pilfer the NRA membership list. A few events like this would shut ‘em down real quick.
Government is about how well you pay attention. Whine and ignore it, and it will be very very bad. Even paying attention and working to improve it is not easy. But the opposite is disaster.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands.
I whine and work to improve it. I vote, that means I can gripe if I want to!
It is a shame that so many people are in the whine and ignore category.
Most recent act of improvement: Annoying the local tea party by pointing out government benefits they use. Like sidewalks.
Boxturtle (A small gesture, not well received. But it’s the thought that counts)
Republic, that’s us.
I’m pretty sure Ruth knows that one. And, I’m pretty certain that Ruth has a handle on her opinions, and those are based on her own experiences and own good judgement.
hi, fellow citizens of the United States of America et al.
Hi hi. :)
Looking out the window at snow on the woods behind us, fields all white. Beautiful sight.
Only Republican?
The paradigm of “Democrats good, Republicans bad” doesn’t work and has not worked for a few decades.
Apparently, it’s really hard to let go of, though.
Nonpartisan; votes against relief for Sandy victims

thanks, boxturtle — 1 koch down, 3 (?) to go? or is this 1 of the 2 birchers?
Most people understand that CO2 is a trace natural gas, source of all plant growth, and the product of respiration of all animals. It is sophistry, pure and simple, to equate CO2 with toxic air emissions such as particulates, mercury, etc. You are intentionally trying to confuse people to think that CO2 is dangerous like the toxins that cause lung disease. Fortunately, the average person understands when he is being propagandized. By the way, average global temperatures have not increased for fifteen years; the climate computer models cannot explain this as CO2 has continued to rise while temperatures have not.
When global warming becomes impossible to deny–say, when we all have to live in a dome–they’ll simply start blaming the liberals for it. They won’t miss a beat.

And yes, arsenic is natural too.
Have some natural Drano, skoal.
Ideally, they want to cap life expectancy of serfs at about 60-65 years of age. By then, joints and things are wearing out anyway, and their bodies are no longer any good for the manual work they want them to do. Unfortunately, the permanent starvation they are also going to inflict on them will result in calorie restriction, which is in some quarters recognised as a means of increasing longevity. Oh dear. However, if they can make the air foul enough – at least the air that the poors breathe, then they can more than counteract this effect and achieve their goal. Death at 65 means no messy, expensive things like retirement. In short, an end to those awful entitlements that burden the plutocrats so much.
In any case, US life expectancy seems to be turning the right way for them. Presently at best stalled, it may very well begin to fall. They’ll have to be careful to avoid overshoot though.
Don’t forget, this program continues regardless of which branch of the Uniparty is in power.
damn! wrong koch! *grumble, put my dancing shoes away*
You think you are embarrassed???
I already ordered a cake.
So are you saying CO2 is poison like arsenic? I suppose that kind of ill-informed comment is easier than addressing the substance of the issue.
