Melissa Etheridge — Bring Me Some Water, live at the Kodak Theater.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how ya’ll doing tonight?
Hi Suzanne –
Am gonna do a drive-by and then bail.
Have a court date in the A.M.; pre-trial conference stemming from civil disobedience arrest in Oct. 2011. There are four of us, plus whatever well-wishers choose to attend. And our pro bono legal eagles, of course.
The city government doesn’t seem to harbor the animus for us it did for the Occupy movement (after City Councilmen originally welcomed them with open arms), still, this is new territory for me.
Best wishes to all LLN’ers; exit, stage left (of course).
hey blue — be sure to let us know how it turns out…. fingers and toes crossed for ya…
Hi Suzanne – Hi Blue… Best of Luck. When I started freewayblogging I retained a cool first amendment lawyer… still haven’t had to use him.
I’m there with you! We are negotiating w/judge on ours.
Best to you, hope the outcome is what you want! Let us know. xo to you!
scarlet! how ya doing tonight?
hey bg — how are the negotiations going?
Brrr. It’s really, really cold here tonight.
I hope things go well for Mssr. Peanut Butter.
How many freewayblogger’s are there? Americablog claims the freewayblogger is a guy.
Pretty good – I’m in your state, but sadly, on my way out…
hey tuez — how cold is it?
scarlet as in the scarlet pumpernickel and not katie scarlet o’hara
Well, the DA wants to be a hardass, but maybe we will do community service, not sure yet. We don’t want to pay fines, so we will have to see how it goes.
Yeah – that would be me. “Scarlet” is an allusion to The Scarlet Pimpernel… “They Seek him here, they seek him there…”
dang.. one of these times we will hook up again. i really liked that what happens in the arctic doesn’t stay in the arctic sign
50 and dropping.
Okay, I’m a wuss but I’m also too cheap to turn on the heat.
Love Teh Shocked, this one she gets all Bo Diddly Beat on it.
Great song, great performance, nice grab.
Sadly, my onlyiest compare is Michelle Schocked, doing I’m On My Way, the masters of the youtubes decided it was not propuh for her tune to BE youtubed.
Best to you, yers, and all critters.
community service sounds good… civil disobedience is a community service
that’s forking cold tuez…. how many layers do ya have on….. the most i ever wore at the coast was 3 layers top and bottom
Oh, okay :). I didn’t want anyone stealing your mojo.
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
You’d think I was about to go skiing. I’ve got socks and shoes on, in the house, sweats and an Irish wool sweater over my sweat shirt.
Floridians just can’t handle anything much below 70.
sorry, got my scarlets mixed up — i always think pumpernickel instead of the literary one
Coming up with climate change slogans is a lot harder than back during the Bush years… I miss the days when all I had to paint was “Impeach.”
I’m having a contest to find new slogans:
first prize is a thousand bucks…
Nice work, Scarlet!
you shudda seen my mom when she was up visiting from az… it wasn’t even winter
That’s gonna hurt you someday on Jeopardy…
Love the slogans you are coming up with, though.
thankfully, my dreams of being on jeopardy have been tempered with the realization that i’m no longer a cliff clavin and more like kelly bundy
kelly bundy reference
Here’s one, okay it’s lame.
Ask not what the earth can do for you…
I’ve got the same problem.
ooooo i like that tuez
I passed the test three times and wasn’t invited on. Three times! And I was running a charity at the time. I was perfect for them – but noooo… I think it was the long hair. they Never have longhairs on that show…
MLK had a dream
Obama had a drone
Ma nature has the sun
That might be too obtuse
fuck… that’s gotta be so disappointing… i always thought that it was the brains only that mattered
i’m the only one
The results were disappointing, sure. But the lead-up, where you just spend days going over almanacs, trivia and the like – that was pretty cool.
That is, uh, trying to cover a bit much ground all at once…
must been intense…. i wudda been stressing that i was gonna have a brain fart or some such…
you could do it like the old burma shave signs….
getting the buzzer-thing right was a little tricky…
At home I miss maybe three or four per board. So long as information is useless, I can remember it forever.
How about #32?
On edit: ignore.
Hullo, there, LLN peeps. Scarlet, you have a way with words. Too funny, you missing having no more to paint than “Impeach.”
There must be some way to do climate change briefly…love the Arctic quote, though.
Suzanne, did you actually see the sign?
Jeopardy – I once dreamed of getting on…remember when Trivial Pursuit was the hot game? (before the intertoobz, of course). Everybody wanted me on their team; my brain was just full of trivia nobody else knew (or cared about).
I watch Jeopardy with my mom when I visit. Naturally, I get a lot of answers, and she still says “you should go on!” But in fact, I can’t remember half of ‘em, and I can’t remember ‘em fast enough anymore. So often, I know I used to know that one…but can’t dredge it out of the brain archive these days. Besides which, a camera would totally freak me out. In the living room, though, I’m champ. ; )
i liked #32… reminds me of jfk
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight? i only saw the sign on scarlet’s blog and not in person… haven’t been into portland lately. i’m a living room champ when i watch. i don’t watch it regularly like i used to but was pleasantly surprised to see that jen still does. she grew up watching that show
So long as information is useless, I can remember it forever.
Hey that could(have been) be me! The forever part, though, turns out to have been wrong. Especially bad remembering names of groups who sang songs I once knew so well.
I wish I could remember half as much as I used to know.
come to my window
Yup. Turns out the memory does start to fry…don’t mind too much as long as it’s the trivia…
Suze, that youtube of Melissa doing Janis is amazing. Now that I’m typing and not looking,I’d swear that was Janis.I had no idea!
“Forgetfulness” by Billy Collins…
great poem. Just about all his stuff’s great.
i remember my 3rd grade history teacher complaining that his students could memorize a song they heard once, but couldn’t remember a single lesson he taught. That’s the only thing I remember about my 3rd grade teacher, and my 4th grade teacher, and my senior level college professor.
she’s got such an amazing voice… that same grittiness and raw power that janis had
wasn’t that the premise behind schoolhouse rock?
My husband, on the other hand, can remember every dirty joke he’s ever told or heard.
Although it could also be repetition that keeps his mind on bad jokes, even with too much beer in him.
It’s funny, but the first time I held this contest, almost all the entries were really earnest and well-meaning, but lacked a certain edge I’m kind of fond of. Then it occurred to me that the sort of cynicism that makes for good sloganeering is precisely the same sort that keeps people from entering contests…
I remember the School House Rock ditties going through my head when I took the SATs (thank you School House Rock gods). Too bad they had faded by the time I took the GMAT.
That was actually the premise behind songs and poetry in general – memory devices for delivering the news…
i still can recall some… like 3 and conjunction junction
i didn’t know that about poetry. when i was a kid, memorizing poems was not popular among my fellow students
That’s nice. I’ve heard him recite quite a few poems; if that was one, well, I’ve forgotten so it was brand-new!
The animation was kewl, too. With books, though, I forget the ending first. It’s amazing how few endings I remember.
And in the same vein, last week I did it again: bought a book I already had. Used, at least. And I had looked all over for it, but…spotted it last night. Not where I thought it should be…
Sigh. Which very likely means I’ve already read it…but since I don’t remember, it’ll be as if I hadn’t. So there’s an upside.
i will remember the ending but not how it got there….
Yeah, the whole reason for long poems like the Odyssey and the Nordic sagas being in verse was so they could be memorized and passed around or down to the next generation.
Just today I read in a book about technology and blogging a quote from somebody (forget who, of course) in the time of Gutenberg, saying printing would ruin people’s memories. Or was it earlier, like Aristotle, talking about writing in general? Can’t remember. But you get the point.
(the point in the book was that new technology always turns things upside down, and always seems like a catastrophe to some).
We could read the same book and then together, we’d recall the whole thing!
more doing janis doing kris
Love that song. Somewhere in my boxes of LP’s that I can’t give up are both Kris’s own and Janis’s versions.
Part of my brain is trying to think up something pithy for Scarlet. But another part is crying out that it’s bedtime.
Scarlet, come back in a couple days…maybe we’ll have thought up something useful for you. But I see what you mean about the problem.
i’ve got her cheap thrills and kozmic blues lps iirc
if you do come up with one, be sure to post it over at his place for the contest…..
sorry to be fading already peeps…. i didn’t sleep well last night. thank you for hanging out here with me
g’nite all (((pups)))
Hey, I haven’t forgotten everything! “Cheap Thrills” was with Big Brother and the Holding Company! (had to go look it up, though, to be sure).
I have “Pearl,” maybe that’s the only one. Don’t recognize any of the other album covers as mine (from this site).
I think the Kristofferson record I have is called “Silver-tongued Devil”, although now I’m getting too sleepy to bother googling it.
Think I better say good night, and thanks for the good LLN company. Oh, and good luck to all the peeps with court appearances.
Goodnight y’all – i’ll try to come round more often… Here’s Kris doing “Jesus was a Capricorn”
