Luther Vandross — A House Is Not A Home, live on Soul Train, November 27, 1982.
What’s on your mind?
thatguy! how ya doing tonight?
I have no hard liquor in the house. This is wrong. Took me a year to finish it all, but I have to hit Costco and get some Knob and some Courvoisier.
Big day today in the public safety movement. Lots of changes coming down the pike. Right now I’m trying to make a bunch of 30 second videos condensing what I’ve been writing about for while. It’s hard for me to make my point in 1200 words. But it’s a good challenge.
I’m thinking of trying to do one though per 30 seconds and try out different styles.
wintertime warm ya up from the inside drinks
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight? congrats on getting the fdl front page dood!
always and forever
a change is gonna come
Spocko, I need a good counter to those using abortion numbers as far more worse than the number of kindergartners killed by guns….
hey robert — how was your day?
I’ve been watching short videos to see what I like that I can do.
I’m thinking of using short clips from movies to illustrate my points.
I’m trying to figure out what my most important points are first!
Then I got to think who the audience is. They people who watch them are probably already inclined to be progressive but I try and help them either look at things in a new way or suggest actions that they can take that make a bigger impact.
One that I’ve been thinking about is, “What do you do when you see someone being out of control in their comments about the new rules and upcoming public safety laws. So for example you are reading some posts under an article and the person is talking about how they will shoot anyone who tries to take away my guns, start suggesting going out and killing people (like that guy Yeager). You see I read these kind of comments all the time and I’m getting tired of them. Because when they talk about going on a shooting rampage I have to wonder if they aren’t a danger to themselves or others.
Well usually people just let them get away with it. But just like that Yeager guy they think that there are no consequences to their speech. Sure they can say what they want, but I am also free to let their employer in the private sector know about their rants. And since some of them are so confident in their 1st and 2nd Amendment rights they use their facebook page. From that I can find out who they work for and make sure the HR person at their private job know what they are saying. This of course might have negative consequences. Of course it would be in the private sector so when their boss tells them they can’t talk about shooting people they won’t be able to blame the government.
Burned out counter punching the idiotic rage of Obama haters over his decisions on gun restrictions….The abortion omparison leaves me both wiped and speechless….
Wow. Sick. Okay, my first question is, “Who is the audience?” Are you talking on line to a friend, a co-workers, a family member or a stranger?
next, what is the venue? In person at a dinner party or in a comments section?
The first thing you might want to do is see if they care about any born children.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! Luther is silky smooth, Suz…! ;-)
did you see this comment by spocko on his diary?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? dood is fireplace music
What I try to do is get them focused on the current children. and ask what steps they take to keep them safe. Seat belts? vaccination? doctor visits?
Then when I get them to admit they do things to protect kids ask them what things they do that put kids at risk.
with gregory hines
*heh* Turn Off The Lights, already…! ;-)
First and foremost the majority of the abortion comparers clearly are first engaged in the anti-abortion movement, though clearly some use that and speeding cars to diminish gun violence. How Can I even begin to give a cogent counter to those wacked enough to basically defend a position that we must endure a few mass murders of kids a year to preserve the second amendment if we refuse to curb the mass killing by abortion….
jeebus that’s whacked out crazy robert. are ya sure you even want to talk to that person about it?
i would be tempted to repeat their position back to them using those words and walk away
I did read that Spocko diary, but the abortion challenge, for me, requires a specific counter I can’t come up with….
Then there’s Barry, Suz…! Can’t get enough of your love baby… *swoon*
i can see why… lardy….
hey mzchief — how ya been?
that’s teddy’s lights again dood
Kewl. Thank you on the retweet re the efforts of the gutsy John O’Brien in Massachusetts. I thought Cynthia K. would especially want to see this. Turns out greenharper worked real hard on the assist.
Eyes tired. Brain fried from exposure to gun worshiping, Obama hating FB friends (yep, some in my own family) that I need to sleep it off….
sleep well robert…. i’ve got kin like that too (((robert)))
*Aargh* My Bad…!
twas my pleasure mzchief. you tweet stuff that i would never see… you have much better sources than i do
we really got it together baby
Hey Suz, and lln crew. Nice tune.
hey bg — how’s nm tonight? glad ya liked it – not many sang live on soul train and i liked how the regular dancers were standing watching that man sing. only the soul train dancers dancing… very unusual
*heh* What’s Going On…?
lets get it on
*heh* Hop aboard…! ;-)
Thank you kindly but you have the great belly laugh Tweets.
Things are good here, it has been super cold, and a tiny bit of precipitation which we need desperately.
We had our re-districting lawsuit filed today, at last. OMG, it has been a long time coming. Our lawyers are the ones who beat Delay/Perry in TX, and it is so straight forward we should win. Best news of the year for me.
thanks :) how’s pdx tonight? feels good to be above freezing again
Aloha, mz…! You and Suz comprise 2 of my whopping 7 twitter followers…!
holy moly — you gonna diary about it bg?
Hey, Suze! Nice song, as usual.
Margot says I should ask you to explain what “left-eyed” means, in the context of, what else, shooting a gun. You’re our expert!
hey tejan — how was your day? i shoot anything scoped left handed because i am left eyed — my left eye is my dominant eye and i can only wink with my right eye.
i am right handed so its a weird adjustment i had to make to offset my dominant eye being opposite my dominant hand when shooting a handgun.
i hope that is what she meant…..
i have mixed lateral dominance… left eyed, right handed, and left footed. i do fine motor movement with my right hand and gross motor movements with my left — i was probably a lefty who switched over on my own – mom claims that she believed (contrary to popular opinion at the time) that kids will be what they want and to not force them to be right handed.
I’m glad it’s a bit warmer but the insanity of turning folks out of their homes continues (info about current folks that need help from Occupy Gresham). Wells Fargo deserves this:

I’m Easy…! ;-)
Good idea, will be looking forward to when it is heard in court and will try to get a seat to watch the testimony. It is really exciting to think that we can get justice in our country sometimes. I expect it this time.
I don’t know when it is heard. The suit has been in preparation for some months, and the maps are so egregiously bad. I am just thrilled to read the charges. I think it is well done, of course IANAL, so what the hell do I know?
How else am I gonna keep up with what’s goin’ on in Aloha land?
it would be an interesting diary even now bg — someone fighting back against the egregious re-districting that’s going on. is the legal documents available online for linkage?
I am right handed and always shoot left eye as that’s my dominant eye. Never have thought about it till now.
wells and all the other too big to fail fuckers *spitting*
spocko, I almost got arrested in Santa Fe yesterday. I went up for a solidarity action with Idle No More, and after we were done outdoors, we decided to go into the capitol and dance around the space there a few times. When we went inside, the Teaparty crew was having a chance to speak, and we listened to them for a while, until the gun nuts started in. They were talking about how to fight the attacks on the 2nd A and the NRA, and I started yelling, KILL KILL KILL. It threw them off a little, but the capitol police were ready to arrest me, so I quit. I felt bad mixing up the INM message, but I did not stop myself. I was bad, but it was entertaining for a moment when the TP folks took it in.
hey homeroid — how’s homer tonight? it was my shooting instructor at the police academy that pointed it out to me — i had no idea up until that point. can you wink with both eyes?
wow — you went all arlo guthrie on them?
wow, sure wish i had been there to see that bg
I read it in an e-mail link, not sure if it is on line somewhere. I’ll see if someone knows where to get a link. I love how the basic facts are so simple. Maybe we can live blog the trial. That would be fantastic.
*heh* Ain’t No Sunshine, these daze, Mzchief…! ;-)
Hm … given your right motivation, it’s considered “skillful means” if you incisively arrested the attention of the TP folks for a moment long enough to possible break their trance. It’s icing on the cake if you can stop short of the arrest stuff too.
would be interesting to have other lawyer types looking over the paperwork and expressing their opinions like we did back with the libby and prop 8 trials….
Yup both are winkers and i can drool out of both sides of my mouth. Are we looking for traits or what.
Nice. :-) Love the Neville Brothers!
Yep, I sure did. I am kind of mad at myself for disrespecting INM by doing it, so not too proud, but those people got to me. I let myself go.
Oh, I was just going to ask how you knew which eye was dominant. It’s the winking thing that tells?
So, if you can wink with either eye, does that mean neither is dominant?
Your description of your mixed dominance is fascinating; I have no idea if one foot is dominant over the other, either, nor an eye. I can wink either way.
The fascinating, unexpected things I learn around here!
Lurking and reading, but just about spit my tea on the keyboard there, LOL
Morning and 11° F, all this talk about cold, it is supposed to drop a little more next week.
Our attorney general just got turned down at the state supreme court in his third attempt to get voter ID on their docket.
*heh* I’m a Rightie, thru-n-thru…! ;-)
Grrl, you are amazing. Not to say a teensy bit reckless….but amazing.
On the other topic, the redistricting lawsuit, you say “our lawyers.” Does that mean you’re a plaintiff in the suit?
i can only wink with my right. the only way i can wink with my left eye is to close my eye with my fingers
dayam i’m proud of ya bg… wow
Skillful means eh? I started it, but there was at least one other person who jumped into it too. I know I should respect their right to speak, but I didn’t.
nonq, glad ya didn’t ruin your computer.
iirc he originally had me hold out my index finger and then told me to take turns looking at it with either eye (via winking)…. that was back in 81 so i can’t remember all the details
hey nonq — how ya been dood?
Hey, nonq! Up early and late both, huh?
Wisconsin sure is interesting these days, too. Don’t you have a nut or three on the state Supreme Court, too? And even they wouldn’t hear the voter i.d. case?
These crazies just keep doubling down. Our own beloved gov goodhair seems to be channelling all the governors who got slapped down by courts in the last couple years. He made a speech to some group, tea party or similar, a week or two ago saying his goal to totally end abortion in any form in Texas.
all the troubles the state needs to solve, and abortion is what they go for first.
Oh, and of course, he wants tax cuts. Again.
(shaking it off). eleven degrees huh? And I (and Big Boy, my feral guest cat) thought 33 was cold the other night. Poor guy, he’s getting spoiled by sleeping indoors. He sits at the door and looks at me. I open it. He looks out for a bit (as long as I hold the door open). He doesn’t move.
I close the door.
The next time I look in the kitchen, he’s back in his bed. ; )
Tomorrow nite, Folks, I’ll have the distinct pleasure of meeting again with Col. Ann Wright, at my Alma Mater…! I’m sooo stoked…! I do plan on doing a write-up on it, hopefully with some video…! She’s the ‘Real Deal’…! ;-)
Winking with both eyes, alternately, fairly ambidextrous lefty here. Right eyed, right armed when pulling back a bow, opposite with a long gun, and here I am discussing shooting, probably chased spocko out. Retired shooter here spocko.
No, all of the plaintifs are Latino, since what happened is that we have 47% Latino population and only 2 of the 9 re-districts have Latino majority. In addition they packed all the pockets of poverty and aging infrastructure into the same 2 districts, so “packing.” 75% of the population growth in the last 10 years has been Hispanic, so it is egregious, truly.
I say “our” because my district got totally thrown under the bus, and I have been furious since it went down. So I have been waiting for this day for at least 6 months. I can send you a pdf in e-mail if you want to see it. I’ll also see if I can get a link for on-line reading of it.
when getting dressed, which leg to ya put your pants (or sock or shoe) on first? that was another question the shooting instructor had for me…. after all the questions, he said i had mixed lateral dominance, gave me some tips for adjusting my shooting stance and i was 5xing the targets. never did get used to shooting scoped lefthanded but got pretty good with a handgun.
wow…. how exciting dood!!!
Fine, thank you, started planning the garden a little today, went through my teen’s room, with permission.
planting indoors or in a greenhouse?
I Don’t Know Much…
Sounds like you are keeping notes about what to better next time. :-)
my bad.. i read planting … not planning
what are you planning to grow this year nonq?
WOOT! Give her a (((HUG))) for all of us!!
tell it like it is
I know at a young age i was pocked in the eye real bad. Not sure which one. It’s not that often i wink at someone that i would notice which eye i used.
Where else would one think about winking but LLN.
4 righty partisans, one up for re-election for a ten year term, three actually reading and applying law.
Two good contestants in the spring election. Attempting to drum up some action for the winner of the Feb primary as the turn out in April is low and would be the indeal time to flip four three in the other direction to halt Walker’s full tilt boogie crazies from selling off the whole state.
It’s been a pleasure, folks. Nite-y, nite. ;-)
It is funny we’re discussing shooting here, now. I asked the question bc someone posted a photo of Gov. Ann Richards holding a rifle (? I’d have to go look), and someone commented that she was holding the gun left-handed but shooting right-eyed, or something like that. Now I can’t remember exactly, but that’s how I came to wonder what “right-eyed” and “left-eyed” meant.
Honestlly, Suze, I have no idea which shoe or pant leg I put on first. I’d have to go do it and pay attention to know; it’s one of those auto=pilot things for me. Although I vaguely remember, when my foot was broken, having to think about which foot to lead with when climbing a step.
I’ll plant outside in a couple of small cold frames. Don’t have a good indoor space for a lot of starters.
*laughing* thanks dood…
I’ll be wearing my FDL t-shirt as I give her a bear hug, M’dear…! ;-)
Sweet dreams, Mz…!
i’m still doing the ‘down with the bad and up with the good’ reminder when i’m on stairs… my mixed is all mixed up even worse now…
Dominant left hand and my right foot is a half shoe size larger than the left. Typical physiology in most people.
turns out this place is great in the summer for indoor plants but totally sucks in the winter. i face due east and only have two small windows, one in the kithen and one in the bedroom on the south side of the house.
Bonne nuit, y’all!
i did it again
These Arms of Mine…
no fault no harm, lol
*heh* Not one peep from moi…! ;-)
LOL. Poor Suze. Has it been a year yet since the big catastrophe? Hard to believe, huh? So glad you’re up and walking, even if you do have to think about it and use the “third leg.”
Well, all, this has been an interesting LLN. Gotta go to bed now. Finally scheduled my substitute Over Easy post for tomorrow. Had to get Kit to help; links wouldn’t work. So, once again, my plan to go to bed early like a normal person has failed. Oh well.
G’nite, everybody. Never.give.up!
ticks me off since we don’t get many 99′s to celebrate lately and then i go and hit it because i wasn’t paying attention
Fascinating class on WI public TV, doctor showing systems/organs and such in a human cadaver, just pointed out where kidney stones travel on their way out the body. People describe them as more painful than childbirth or a gun shot wound, (sorry spocko).
g’nite tejan — never. give. up.
token’s doing the dance by the door. guess i had better take him out to save a tree.
thanks everyone for letting me hang out with ya tonight and for all the great conversations :)
*heh* In the Midnight Hour…! ;-)
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Thanks for the chat people, it has been delightful to hear the latest, I’m at 2:00AM here and have been getting up at first light. Four hours sleep and I’ll get a couple of strategic naps during the day. Typical pattern I swing into occasionally.
Well the next show is the muscular system, might have to make some more tea. ;-)
Nighters, Suz, good that we got past the 99 tonight!! Rockin’ night.
