About Firedoglake
happy friday peeps!
Just for laughs, Suzanne, I was taking care of my grandtwins last night. They told me that they needed to bring stuffed animals to school today for Veterinary Day (their pre-school is featuring various parents giving talks about what their job is), so I made a note to myself and made sure they took their animals with them this morning.
Well, oops, today was actually Plumber Day! I laughed and emailed their mom to be sure to ask them if their pipes were cleared when she picks them up this evening.
hey dearie — hahahaha :) how was your day after they went to school?
Lovely day. When my daughter and I put them to bed last night the boys were grumpykinders…………carried on like we’d never seen. “I want my mommy.” My daughter was saying under her breath, “Well, I want my mommy, too!…. just give me some time with my mommy!” They finally went to sleep. When they woke up this morning it was like magic and miracles and unicorns and ponies! They were so darned cute! Happy little campers. I fed them and dressed them and took them to pre-school…..
I think it was newcarguy who wrote: Note to God: Grandchildren….. fantastic invention. Keep up the good work.
Yes, indeed.
yes, indeed. if i had really known how much grandbabies add to the love, i woulda been asking for them years and years ago
And it’s not like their mom was ignoring them! Their dad was working in San Diego and their mom had to leave the house at 5 a.m. for a business meeting. I truly love being the grandmom who can be there to fill in. Especially when the boys are so adorable in the morning.
I waited patiently! My girls didn’t have their kids until mid to late 30s. I’d have been a more energetic grandma if they’d just been a little more timely, dontcha know!
you are so lucky that you are so close that you can do that that dearie. i love it when julsie has just woke up — she’s all warm and cuddly and has such a sweet smile
Oh, I know! I’m grateful for my good luck. My other daughter is in Montana and I don’t get there often enough. We are a family based historically in the San Francisco area, but it is wonderful to have my father and brother both living in Santa Barbara …. and my daughter and her family. Lovely!
jen was 34 when she had julsie and has decided no more. she had a very difficult pregancy. stephanie, who is now 24 said she wants to have 5 boys.
do ya have any plans for the weekend dearie?
My older daughter figured she’d have two and then adopt two. She now has had 3 and I think she’s about done! But, oh her kids are cute and she’s so happy to have them. A handful, for sure, but an incredible joy, too. I had all of mine by the time I was 30 (last one born just weeks before I turned 30)…. and I still had a ton of energy. I give a lot of credit to these young women who are having them later. Of course, 40 is the new 30…. “:)
Aloha, Suz and lln pups, from Subaru again…!
i told steph her plans may change after she has a couple… jen would love to have more but her body just doesn’t handle any aspect of pregnancy well. poor baby was sick the whole time on top of it all. it was like adding insult to injury.
I’m kind of wanting to go to the Santa Barbara farmers market and then a quick visit with my dad. We’ll see if the weather holds. Today was bright and sunny, if coool. Amazing to point out the Channel Islands to the boys while I was driving them to pre-school this morning. Just beautiful! Mountains in the sea, really.
aloha tut — how’s the top of the mt tonight?
it was bright blue skies up here and *gasp* sunshine with hardly a cloud in sight. supposed to be clear, cold, and dry for the next 10 days or so…. *brrrr* even in the daytime — highs are forecast to be in the high 30′s and low’s in the mid 20′s
You’re up on the mountain, CT? Did you get a glimpse of the asteroid the other night? I do love the night sky. It’s too light where I live, but I’ll never forget seeing the shooting stars while I visited my daughter when she lived in Oregon. Special.
*groan* I swear they did every bad joke and then some, Suz…!
of course they did tut — its the muppets *laughing* i loved the palm trees one
It’s below freezing, but, very little wind, so it’s not too shabby…!
that’s good news then tut. the wind — that’s the worst. it makes the cold so much colder and bitter
I didn’t get a chance to see it, Dearie, since I wasn’t up here and it was too cloudy…! Tonite it’s crystal clear up here with it storming all around, with thunder and lightning too…!
is the storm blow your elevation? how cool to be looking down on a thunderstorm
.. great to see everyone and belated Happy New Year ..
Yum! I do love me some thunder and lightning! Must be growing up during my teen years in Houston where storms were truly magnificent. I also love it out here on the left coast when the Pacific kicks up!
It seems to be capped at the 10K level, we’re at 13K+, it is cool to watch the thunderheads…!
.. stay safe .. must run ..
hey tearloch — how ya doing tonight? how’s bc?
Aloha, tearloch…! How’s BC tonite…? I love how ‘Idle No More’ is going global…!
g’nite tearloch
an opportunity not that many folks get to see ….
I toured a home up on the ridge above Santa Barbara once while my brother, sister and I were looking for a family compound…… above cloud level. It was wonderful.
Hi guys.
All your talk of grandkids reminds me I need to have kids.
Oh, wait…
I still can’t quite reconcile the fact the clock has stopped ticking.
Even if you don’t have them, you can still care for kids. My kids used to beg me to bring one of my “probates” home. And I was forever taking in kids who just needed a hug. My own daughter took on a mentee through a program…. spent years with the girl. It didn’t work out as she would have wished, but it worked out just fine, all in all. We can all help kids in need.
hey tuez — how was your day today? steph had a much older mom than jen did — tis a good thing my clock has stopped because i don’t think i could do it full time anymore.
there’s an ad i often see on the teevee machine up here that has the line “not everyone can be a foster parent but anyone can help a foster kid”.
I get that. I think of my daughter’s husband who is my age. I cannot imagine taking on a couple of kids at my age! But I love kids of all ages and can imagine working with kids forever. There is something about kids that just gives me hope… they are our future. And the joy of seeing someone experience things for the first time is so special.
Truth is, I’m really not all that into kids, one on one anyway. Having kids was never a priority for me. That said, I do, and always have, supported anything that helps kids. I’ve voted for every tax increase for schools, education, libraries, playgrounds, etc.,that I’ve ever found on a ballot.
and, tuez, what’s cookin’ in your world?
steph’s back in florida after semester break. after spending a couple weeks in the midwest, she returned and has to adjust to the heat and humidity all over again. she had finally gotten used to the cold when it was time to return.
I would say not much, but truth be known I’m on one of my once a decade personal make overs. I kinda throw out the shit in my life, keep the good, and move on. Time will tell where I end up next.
Personally, I find 80, sunny and 50% humidity perfect.
perfect daytime temps. at night, however, i like it a lot colder than that… down into the 30′s and 40′s – that’s prime sleeping temps
well, keep us informed. I wish I could do some real sweep-cleaning, but I tend to just hunker down. I could do with a good serious make over. For real.
ditto and me too
I like heat, too. I only applied to two colleges…. and then took my twin brother along with me since our parents were not particularly helpful. We went to University of Arizona. He still asks me, “How come we didn’t go to Miami U?”
I think I just wanted no humidity. And I didn’t know how to water ski. Whatever. I think we’d have liked Miami very much.
I initially hunker down, at about 5 years, by 10 years, the boredom requires action. It’s not even something I do consciously. It just happens.
tis about time for token and i to go freeze while he saves a tree. thanks for letting me hang out here with ya tonight
g’nite all
Hmmmm. I’ve never lived anywhere longer than about 8+ years. For whatever reason, I’ve always moved on. I’m coming up on 10 years in my current house, and, yeah, I do kind of have an itch to move on. I gotta watch myself.
buh-bye
Good morning, pups. Today we’ve got Blow, Nocera and Collins. In “Revolutionary Language” Mr. Blow says extremists make sensible gun control hard to discuss, let alone achieve. Mr. Nocera decided he wanted to shoot guns. In “How to Shoot a Gun” he says a visit to Bud’s Gun Shop in Lexington, Ky., and to the shooting range offers some perspective on the appeal of guns. I guess it grew 2 inches, even if one of the guns was scary? Ms. Collins has a question in “The Flu. Who Knew?” She asks don’t we go through this every winter, people? Let’s blame John Boehner.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got your choice of eggs Benedict or eggs Florentine. I’m a huge spinach lover, so it’s Florentine for me. We’re having a REALLY foggy morning, to the point where the house across the street is all hidden in haze. I don’t mind, but it plays merry hell with Mr. Marion in Savannah’s COPD so I’m hoping it burns off later. Have a great day.
Good MMorning All, Good to see news and Marion’s rundown….PUAC in a minute….And have a good rest of the weekend.
