When the right-wing’s worst ideas spread to their closest friends. When you are borrowing from the intellectual residue of Steve King it is a problem.
Israel is to build a huge steel fence along the boundary between the Golan Heights and Syria amid fears that the civil war could spill over or create an influx of refugees.
The pledge from the prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, came a few days after the defence ministry announced the near-completion of a 150-mile fence along the southern border with Egypt, aimed mainly at keeping out illegal migrants.
Yeah, that’ll work.
When are they eliminating their socialist health care system?

Verily, Israel is the sick puppy of the international community.

Congratulations are in order. Since the border with Lebanon is already sealed, only a wall with Jordan will then be needed to complete the ring.
They’re looking more like Serbia every year.
I think we have collectively lost our minds. Wars and killing is all we know anymore. Why not have gun towers along the borders, even here in Az, and if anyone dares step foot even on the fence, shoot him. Better arm those towere with machine guns. Yeah the NRA will like that. Taken with this bs debt ceiling debate does anyone start to worry that maybe we are going the way of the Romans?
Come to Izrael, world’s largest gated community!
Good morning, pups. We have Krugman solo since Mr. Keller is off today, so the week is starting off on a positive note. In “The Big Fail” Prof. Krugman says sometimes good things happen to bad ideas.
Here he is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. Are they going to electrify that fence? I’m having a bad day with my hands and wrists, so typing isn’t all that much fun right now. More tea for me — the universal panacea! Have a great day.
“We do it with livestock all the time!” which is what citizens are becoming in the eyes of its faux-leaders. Can’t solve your problems? Build a wall around yourself! Then like Israel you can pretend that the entire universe ends right there—inside good, outside bad, and kill anything moving between. And by the time this proves a pathetic failure, we’ll have the “virtual reality” helmets ready for everybody and you can carry the wall around in your head. Oh, wait a sec—that’s where we are right now.
Since the Purple line was established back in 67, Israel has not felt the need to build a fence there. Not even after the 1973 war. Now they feel the need to do so. The rebels can’t be that much of a threat and even if they got Assad’s Chemicals they could just lob ‘em over any fence.
So what else has changed?
Boxturtle (The idea of fencing Israel in so they don’t threaten their neighbors has merit)
Imagine if Syria had trillions of dollars and owned their own Al Jazeera like TV station, then they’d be the ones financing and orchestrating an rebel uprising in Saudi Arabia and their buffer countries: UAE, Bahrain… http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/07/world/meast/bahrain-unrest/
Iran’s next and I’ll bet the neocons (Jeb, Kristol, Netanyahu…) can hardly wait for Hagel to become the SOD so they can tell us, in 2 or 3 years, “we told you so.” Because if anyone knows the true value of a “catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor,” then that would have to be the neocons (Patriot Act, torture, warrantless wiretaps…). http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf
Globalization marches on.
Our Israeli relations are going to get a lot of attention these next few weeks if Obama nominates Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense today or this week.
The Neocons are shitting bricks worried about that possibility.
Why not have someone who has experienced war first hand so that they can provide some reason about it, instead of the Chickenhawk Neocons who have never experienced it and always advocate for sending other peoples children to fight and die.
Sickening….If the dispute is so important that we send our “kids,” there should be a draft…..equal opportunity.
Good morning RevBev.
You just hit on the best idea of all with the draft and be sure to include the Senators and members of the House’ children and grandchildren.
Thanks…and Amen. College deferment was one thing; a complete pass is absurd.
Poor Joe Lieberman, nothing to say, nothing to do (well maybe backroom)about the Hagel nomination.
We missed Peg this morning; hope she is doing OK. Maybe a late start.

I urge everyone to read his column this morning. Israel is experiencing blowback from supplying arms to Ethiopia, and many blacks are searching for work in Israel. This is how they’re treated.
Israel’s population is possessed with hatred beyond what the media reports.
Raimondo thinks U.S. Jews will eventually break with Israel, and I think he has a point.
Only trouble with a college deferment is whose children cannot afford college these days?
MorningEvening in AmerikaThat’s good, comrade.
Eventually = After the second coming?
My, aren’t you just cute and glib?
You know he is. Izrael’s not gonna let those stupid fundamentalist Kwristians in there. They already got a missile designated for Jesus’ chariot.
