WI is fine, the weather has moderated slightly. Walker is still pretending to be a governor,
First course of business is going to be to piss off the Native Americans and try to iron ore mine in their federally protected watershed, Bad River north central runs into Lake Superior. Hasn’t asked them in on the planning yet, doesn’t look like he intends to.
actually it was iced snow…. the good news is that after backing out my totally covered driveway out to the street, once i got down to the corner, the street was in much better shape and one block from there it was totally clear. it appears my little street is the worst of it and my driveway has the most snow.
i don’t get much sun here since i’m east facing and have big trees behind me.
yeah … what can i say. i did sweep off as much snow as i can from the two steps and then put salt on them. tonight we are only going to get down to 27 instead of last nights 25
I’ve been looking for any mention of that in conjunction with the issue and so far nothing, here. What I did read was that some chiefs (not women) were trying to co-op the initiative and claim the movement, so some internal strife and turf wars.
Yes, again glad you did your diary, for sure.
I followed the link to Mandy Hiscock’s blog at comment 46. The list of five things and the explanations of each item were great and something I could easily apply at home with likely certain positive results.
About 3 months, but saw a couple new gals that I hadn’t seen in years. Good times! Interesting that one of the friends turned out to be a lib, didn’t know that before. We exchanged email addys.
i have pics over at my place from nye when it fell. the good news about rain is that if it doesn’t become freezing rain, it will wash out the rest of the snow and my driveway will be clear. would rather check the mailbox in the rain than on snow. the good news about driving today was i was able to get the mail before i pulled all the way in…
Ok, good. I just don’t want you slipping right now. Not while you’re healing. Had a great early new year with my daughter. Suffered on the 31st, but it was well worth the fun the night before! So nice enjoying her growing up!
Senator, great tune! Congrats on your grandbabies!
My most harrowing Snow experience was being caught in a sudden Nor’easter that rolled in while I was headed to my family farmstead in Pugwash, NS., it started snowing from Fredericton, NB onwards, and, it wasn’t till a turned off the Provincial Highway, onto the last, little stretch of local road to Grandma’s home, that I skeetered off into the ditch…! Now, I’d just left Orlando 3 days before, in my Lousy-anna tagged and equipped, ’78 Olds 98…! ;-)
The worst is a white out in unfamiliar territory at night. Had an out of state friend that I used to visit and get caught in some weather, there and back several times over three winters. Couldn’t see, can’t stop or a semi would run you down, trudge on trying to follow whatever slight track in front of you that might be visible.
Hey, does anyone know if that guy from Oklahoma has ever come back? The guy that got in an argument with Jane? Can’t even remember his name, but gf was Lahoma…
Ron got caught on the pass right before Lake Tahoe coming in on Hwy 50. He windshield iced over and his wipers froze to the glass. He had to roll down the window on both sides of the car. There was NO where to pull off but down.
I’ve experienced some White-Out conditions, you have to creep along and hope you don’t run into anything, and, most especially pray ya don’t get rear-ended by some stupid f*ck…! 8-(
i’ve not been up there since the late 80′s. i’ve heard they have freewayed it now…. that its no longer a single lane each direction undivided highway now
My brother’s fam lives in Winters and they bought a house in Lake Tahoe about three years ago. I’ll remember not to visit in the winter if mountain travel is mentioned.
OMG that sounds horrible. I think I’ve had nightmare dreams like that.
When I go back to the midwest I don’t even bother to try to drive if it is snowy out. I have no ego when it comes to other people doing the driving I have no experience anymore.
So what is the opposite of writers block? I’ve been writing something and because I’ve been holding off on doing it for so long, it just gets longer and long. I should have written 3 diaries.
I want to talk things that are connected.
1) I want to suggest to people that they start talking about how they are “pro-public safety” I’ve been talking to people and kicking around the use of that phrase as a first response to the recent spate of gun violence.
2) I want to make it clear that the NRA of today is a sophisticated marketing and communications entity whose goal is to sell more weapons. That the leadership, and maybe 25 percent of their membership are extremists and will never see the need for us as a country to make some serious changes in how we deal with guns that fire multiple rounds quickly.
3) I want to suggest that if people care about public safety that they start thinking about how to be as enthusiastic about it as the gun enthusiastic are about guns. The power the NRA has comes from many areas, one is their training of people on intimidation in debating and another from their lobbying skills and ability to generate money and phone calls on an issue on everything public safety related that involves guns.
sunshine but not enough to melt the snow. got up to 41. may have freezing rain tomorrow. am hoping its regular rain and washes away the rest of the snow and ice.
In writing this I’ve come up with some fun titles and subheads.
Guns Don’t Sell Guns, People Do (The NRA marketing organization)
Guns don’t buy Guns, People Do. (the reselling of guns pre-ban)
Bringing Words to a Word Fight
(Although this debate on the issue should be about words, some gun enthusiasts want to remind you if they lose, they are packing and they will kill anyone for trying to take their guns, even if the law are changed by the will of the people to stop some guns get into the hands of future owners
And a joke:
Q: How many NRA executives does it take to change a light bulb?
A: More guns.
(Told to me by gun owner, Vietnam vet and non-member of the NRA)
then you are gonna have to make every word count if ya are doing it all in one. can’t have their eyes glazing over on such an important topic. snark should help overcome that
I’ve thought about OKkiddo and Lahoma several times recently. I hope they are both OK.
Also Treesong. She hasn’t been on her blog since Sept 24. Anybody know anything?

I was saddened to hear of the passing of BobinHI. I’m most concerned right now about Treesong. Neither she nor her husband have been well. As long as it is snow and not ice, driving is a snap, just brake a little sooner than usual…! ;-)
I’m OK. Glad you liked the diary, really appreciate the info people left there.
Agreed, but there is a chance for a lot of attention for the little drama queen on the national stage.
A great Diary, bg…! *g*

Gawd, Suz. Be careful in that snow. Geez.
I think it’s here this weekend, gotta try to see it.
Yes, she spends a week every month in SoCal, lives at the foot of the Sierras.

Senator, great tune! Congrats on your grandbabies!
i’m being very very careful. i worry about a fall every time i go outside.
Lordy, slippage is the very last freaking thing Suzanne needs.

Squib Cakes ?
“Um boy groat cakes ! Heavy on the thirty weight ma.
Don’t eat with your hands son. Here, use your entrenching tool.”

About to hit the hey Suz. But doing ok.

A Fort Polk, Sleazeville special…! ;-)

No kidding. We all walk carefully these days.
I have heard of it.
aint it a hoot! i’m thinking of featuring it
Just heard from one of my teacher friends today about the Oklahoma Credit Card. *gas can and a hose!*
Can’t even remember his name, but gf was Lahoma…
ok kiddo? not that i’m aware of
It was a great car, altho it had a gawdy, powder blue paint job…! ;-)
The snowplow driver that showed up 15 mins later, mentioned that he knew my Dad and all…! ;-)
Ron got caught on the pass right before Lake Tahoe coming in on Hwy 50. He windshield iced over and his wipers froze to the glass. He had to roll down the window on both sides of the car. There was NO where to pull off but down.
OKkiddo or something
ohmystars…. gives me the shrudders just reading that
He is one lucky son of a b.
that’s the same name i remembered and not that i’m aware of loohoo
I was thinking of him recently. I never saw him comment again.
i remember in the 70′s going to tahoe on that horrible stretch between placerville and tahoe…. scary forking road even when its not whiteout
I’ve experienced some White-Out conditions, you have to creep along and hope you don’t run into anything, and, most especially pray ya don’t get rear-ended by some stupid f*ck…! 8-(
That’s the one. I don’t go there anymore.
i’ve not been up there since the late 80′s. i’ve heard they have freewayed it now…. that its no longer a single lane each direction undivided highway now
My brother’s fam lives in Winters and they bought a house in Lake Tahoe about three years ago. I’ll remember not to visit in the winter if mountain travel is mentioned.
OMG, how scary.

hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
The crazy things one did when it was true love calling me to risk life and limb.
Just noticed the time and I have a schedule to keep in six hours or so.
Thank you Suzanne and everybody. niters.
OMG that sounds horrible. I think I’ve had nightmare dreams like that.
When I go back to the midwest I don’t even bother to try to drive if it is snowy out. I have no ego when it comes to other people doing the driving I have no experience anymore.
we all did crazy things back in those days
much better, thanks – how are you doing tonight, Suzzz?
firegods, firegourds, etc.
g’nite nonq
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight?
i’m hanging in and hanging on — same as usual :)
feeling good, I hope.

good enough to go out today :) always a good thing.
perhaps breaking it down into a series… 3 posts covering your 3 points and then a 4th tying it all together???
nice day up there today?
sunshine but not enough to melt the snow. got up to 41. may have freezing rain tomorrow. am hoping its regular rain and washes away the rest of the snow and ice.

I might do that, but hell It’s hard enough to keep people attention for 750/850 words once, to do it three times?
I do want to tie it up though, I want to talk about some ideas I have to help people fight this, if they want to.
i had heard that some of the nra members are really pissed off at the nra for their ‘response’ to the school shooting…
then you are gonna have to make every word count if ya are doing it all in one. can’t have their eyes glazing over on such an important topic. snark should help overcome that
tis about time for token to brave the cold and do his thang. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
g’nite all
I’ve thought about OKkiddo and Lahoma several times recently. I hope they are both OK.
Also Treesong. She hasn’t been on her blog since Sept 24. Anybody know anything?
skeptic
time for some sleep — night, Suzzz – be well.
Guns scare me.
I know nothing. OKkiddo was a wonderful fdl guy. I understand that he was rude to jane, but he was still a a friend. Hope he can come back someday…
It’s hard to find out what’s up, Skeptic…! I just found out that BobinHI passed along recently…! 8-(
I was saddened to hear of the passing of BobinHI. I’m most concerned right now about Treesong. Neither she nor her husband have been well. They made the move from Michigan to Florida and seemed pretty well settled in. She was getting involved in local projects. Maybe Bustedknuckles knows something. It was at his suggestion that I first visited Treesong.
All very sad.
