And, we had sonic booms out of Vandenberg yesterday that felt like earthquakes…. made for some interest. Gonna collect fish for the Feast of the Seven Fishes tomorrow. Got presents to wrap. Hoping to avoid rain. It’s chilly down here but sunny. It doesn’t really feel like Christmas yet.

i’m going to jen’s on monday, christmas eve and we only have a 20% chance of rain that day :) its back to regular chilly (highs in the 40′s and lows in the 30′s) here.

Hey Suzanne! Hope all is well.
I did my atheist shopping on-line with deep thanks to FDL Book Salon. Mathew Steins’s “When Disaster Strikes” for all the beloved youngbloods in my life. And our house.
My favorite Christmas movie I just saw is “Rare Exports”. A Finnish movie; those Pagans!
We have a deep connection to Finland. This movie validates my Christmas theory.!
Also, my ailing pit bull-lab pup [old dog] is doing better these last few days.
Another thing we’ve learned as newly poors……the Lions Club has an incredible Eye program available to poors.
I’m going to have to sign up for volunteer hours in gratitude for getting my husband-the wage earner- new glasse.
It sucks to be in the citizen class I used to volunteer hours to help. And yet, the social connection with people who find the social gap and want to fill it is an inspiring connection. We need more and better Socialists!

I’ll be spending Christmas Eve with my daughter, her husband and the twins, and then Christmas Dinner at ‘the home’ with my dad. My dad’s retirement center is great … with a real chef and all, so I’m really looking forward to it. I have such fun with my dad….. he’s sharp as a tack and very funny.

I wish I could cheat and scan the book But, my Christmas spirit is intact this year. Putting up lights tomorrow and pulling a 15# chunk of primo King Salmon out of the freezer [ #1 son's catch, gourmet aka, no domestic market, Japan].
Probably going to have to do home grown potatoes au gratin and apple pie.

And I have to laugh…. all their parents have to say is “Santa” to get the boys right in line~ I’d forgotten how magical that is…. and how quickly they outgrow it. “:)

Thank’s for the head’s up. I’m a huge fan of peanut butter. I make “sesame noodles” with a white girl twist. Peanut butter is cheaper and feeds more people per dollar than sesame.
This is the key to fusion cooking and probably thereason traditionalists Hate fusion cooking! It’s all about the bottom line of cost and availability.

i spent today learning my iphone 4 — just activated it today…

I had such a hard time with the Santa thang. I was so good at creating the image of Santa that I actually had to have a family meeting and kill him. It’s a Homeschool problem, when you actively remove your child from peer pressure out of your control…you wind up with 7year olds that believe what you tell them.!

Until I discovered this local eggnog, I shunned it. I love this stuff, with rum of course!

Oh, that must have been challenging. We’re pretty free form. Not too doctrinaire. As a kid I believed in Santa even though my grandparents always tagged gifts from the Pittsburg Santa Claus… made for an easy transition. I never felt deceived or cheated…. simply grew into the understanding of wishful stuff. Same with the Easter bunny…. good times for a few years without any hard feelings.

My new favorite hot drink is hot water/lemon slice/dollop honey. I’m cold turkeying on cigs, which means avioding caffiene and alcohol,sweets,social engagements, phone conversations,stress……………………….
Every little trigger sends me to the tea pot for hot water. I haven’t slept more than 2 hours at a stretch for the last 4 weeks because of peeing all night! So far, no one is dead or mentally abused. However, every days a new day!

Other than a bit of insomnia, hanging in there…

Man, I love this stuff. I bought a rum that has a giant octopus on the label. Packed now, so I don’t know the brand, but very delicious. Can totally relate to 18th century addiction to rum.

I have this weird thing about lying, I struggle to lie appropriately as society requires. It’s always been a problem for me to do the White Lies required for social interaction. It wasn’t until Mason-in-blue did a star chart reading post, and I finally agreed to have my chart read after a lifetime of refusing…..it’s in my fuckin’ chart. This inability!
That was a strange thing for an atheist to read, along with other very true traits and situations!

i’m thinking that i will stop by their brick and mortar store and get them to do it for me…

You are a good person! I don’t lie, either….. but I do love a bit of fantasy. And if I DO lie, I own it! I’m not religious, so Santa and Easter Bunny are just delightful baby things … we never took them too seriously. But kids seem to enjoy the fantasy…. I know that I did…. so I don’t have any problem with it. And I don’t have a problem with little white lies…. if someone loves how they look, far be it from me to say, “You look very mediocre!”

it was harder when jen moved out…. even tho i still had steph at home. i thought it would be harder when steph left but it wasn’t as bad as i feared…

Another cold and clear night. Feeling a bit chilled, the missus and I have been trying to kick this sinus/cough thing that’s been goin’ around for a couple weeks now.

Congrats on trying to kick the nicotine thing, openhope. Takes a lot of willpower.

i hope it doesn’t develop into a bug… being sick at christmas totally sucks

I adore fantasy and play! As an “alternative” daycare mom I’d haul a 4×6 sheet of dry wall into the living of the beach cabin we agreed to live in to raise our children…that was the dance floor and we’d make murals for the backdrop, props out of cardboard and we’d do a “performance” just for us. It was so incredibly worth it!
The kids were the costume/make-up people in charge and one day they painted my face because I was the animal trainer,..bunnies,dogs,parakeets. I forgot my face was painted and a neighbor came to the door for a community council situation. He was acting fuckin’ weird and freaking me out. Until I went to go pee and looked in the mirror.
I was completely face painted in a bizarre and inappropriate version of Face Painting. Ah, motherhood.

Kind of like the Pain and Pleasure connection. I think, if you move into the addiction withdrawal energy and let it wash over you, find your oar[mine's hot water with lemon and honey. If there's no lemon or honey, that's NOT a problem. It's the water.]
At the risk of sounding strange; the energy for sex,pain,addiction withdrawal,love withdrawal seems to be almost a physical vibration on the same plane. I can almost recognize it before it whacks me upside the head. 4 weeks wisdom
A very different energy than sex,laughter,love,safety,protecting,playing. That energy makes me want to fuckin’ smoke a cigarette! oy

Well my hat’s off to you. Stay positive. I’ve watched several family members do it and succeed. My dad did it, and he was a real chain smoker for years. So hang in there!

Thank you. It’s a whole lot easier to quit when I can just call it a bad day and curl up on the couch,watch movies endlessly and shred my tongue with sunflower seeds. No real time commitments. Or maybe this is the “window” that flicks by .

Our son just got home from a harrowing trip back o the Seattle area from Eureka, getting the boat ready for crabbing. Stories of almost loosing it driving a truck/trailer and coming into an inch deep layer of hail with dense fog, with no warning.
Man, and I was freaking out about him crabbing in some of the most dangerous waters on the Pacific coast, with big bucks possible if the season’s good.
It’s hard being a mother. Same as it always was.

That’s enough to give any mother nightmares! After he told you, did you want to hug him or smack him upside the head for making you worry?

Good morning, pups. Today we’ve got Blow, Nocera and Collins. In “Guns, Smoke and Mirrors” Mr. Blow says the National Rifle Association blames gun violence on everything except the proliferation of guns. Mr. Nocera looks at “Guns and Their Makers” and says it’s a little late for the firms behind the gun manufacturers to have a conscience after reaping all those profits. Ms. Collins has a question in “Wish You a Gun-Free Christmas:” Did that National Rifle Association press conference have you wondering if the world had imploded per the Mayan calendar after all? No wonder!

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup today. Between folks like Wayne LaPierre and the creatures from Westboro Baptist “Church” I’m not feeling particularly chirpy this morning, so I’m going to fortify myself with more tea and do some gift wrapping.
