National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation — Christmas Lights.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups – hows everyone doing tonight?
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! Who’d every thunk Sir Paul could substitute for
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? i only watched the stones set — it was way too forking short
I’m watching “The Hour” so I’ll be here soon.
… i only watched the stones set… Ahh, ya missed a lot of greats, however brief they were…! Clapton was awesome as always…! ;-)
hey ce — how’s cleveland tonight? i was watching it but just could not get into it
i totally spazzed on the show….. it wasn’t until i saw the live blog on the front page that i tuned in and that was as jimmy fallon was intro’ing the stones.
I so wish I was there.
Oh Suzanne, I’m totally hooked.
And I can’t wait for the encore.
hey tuez — how was your day?
*heh* I’d a given my left nut, to be there, tuez…! ;-)
have a friend down in ca who has been after me to watch it — we both watched and loved call the midwife. she got me to start watching downton abbey and i’m almost caught up in time for season 3.
so i tried to like the hour because she does but… i just didn’t hook me
I’m now 3 days into the dog hasn’t eaten the Xmas presents. All is cool.
What is so special about the right nut?
wow — is that a new record?
maybe its not be worth trading for and its the left one that is so special?
*heh* I’d sacrifice the right one too, since the Better Half’s hysterectomy…! ;-)
Hey, different strokes. l love ALL that you mention but there were lots of PBS programs that I just couldn’t get into, like “I Claudius.”
yeah me too. but when one hooks me, whoa
Well, she’s a puppy and I haven’t put a tree up in 11 years, so it’s her first year to be a Christmas heathen. Since the 3 presents under the tree are her pigs ear and pizzle allotment for next month, due to her owing me underwear and socks, I’m waiting for her to eat my new, unused socks and underwear.
They all seem to be willing to trade a nut. Have you ever offered up an ovary?
However, I have been willing to offer up an unborn.
The first Brit PBS show I loved was Poldark.
ahhhh. this is token’s first tree. i think the fact is is an artificial tree helped. i put it up and before there were any ornaments on it, he went over, sniffed it, snorted his grumpy grump sound and has ignored it since.
i don’t think that would have been his response if it was a real tree
never offered up an ovary nor half my vagina either.
when jen was in her terrible two’s, she had a tshirt that said kid for rent. folks just didn’t realize just how close to the truth that sentiment was :)
However, I have been willing to offer up an unborn…
*heh* you are pure Evil incarnate, tuez…! ;-)
We got out tree today. Mrs. Spocko was in a brain dead mood after working all day on a presentation. So I got to be the enthusiastic one to get the tree (usually it is reversed) We got it I lugged it back and set it up and it smells great! Then we had dinner, home made beef stew from America’s Test Kitchen that was amazing. I made it just as they directed and it turned out great.
The Recipe is in this link
The secret ingredients are anchovies and salt pork. Who knew that beef stew needed fish and pig to make it great?
“Why This Recipe Works
This recipe uses evenly cut chunks of chuck-eye roast — one of the cheapest, beefiest cuts in the supermarket — which we brown and gently simmer in a rich broth. We flavor this broth with glutamate-rich ingredients like salt pork and tomato paste, and thicken it with gelatin. Beef and anchovies are also a good source of nucleotides that work synergistically with glutamates.”
Good evening everyone, enjoyed most of the live feed music, I remember some flicking our Bics and token’ but haven’t been to a big concert since I’ve owned a cellphone.
hey spocko — sounds like a good evening. i love the way a fresh tree smells. how did you decorate the tree?
hey nonq — how’s wisconsin tonight?
in room 12 at 12:12
don’t forget the geminid meteor shower is best seen tonight and tomorrow night
i’m socked in :(
…i’m socked in :(
Ditto that, Suz, but, there’s still the encore…! ;-)
Mostly cloudy and 38 F. And I’m keeping my left one and right one for something better than a concert. ;)
am hopefull but the weather dood isn’t encouraging :(
hey coach — how’s houston tonight?
*laughing* smart man
Clear and cool. All is well.
Depends who you ask, but thank you.
Haven’t decorated it yet, but we will.
We got a smaller tree than usual this year and put it on the Coffee table. I’m fine with it. I like the way it looks. And since we have central heat for the first time in 9 years we can enjoy it without wearing mittens in our own living room!
yay to heat! i have a new appreciation for it after my years with wood heat on the coast
evening, Suzzzz … firegods
hey ppd — how was your day?
Spent a couple winters in Penna with a wood stove and a kerosene heater. Burnt old rail road ties when the woodpile got low. Stunk up the neighborhood but lots of BTU’s
i miss having a fire going but i don’t miss hauling up wood and all the work it took to keep warm. now that i’m not there, i realize that i was getting too old for it. the heat never got rid of all the damp like the electric heat here can — 1 wood stove for 1,000 sq ft vs 2 wall baseboard heaters for 550 sq ft
busy day, all in all — rain didn’t last long this morning.
i only picked up 0.04″… that could very well be drizzle from the nighttime fog
Cold is an occasional inconvenience here rather than a season. Suits me just fine.
Took the boat out Saturday to watch the Xmas light boat parade.
there is a parade of christmas boats on the columbia — the boats at the st helens marina partake and are decked out in all their finery.
We don’t complain, here in the semi-desert
We’ve strung our couple sets of lights similar to these, pretty festive, if a bit non-traditional.
I enjoyed the zen of splitting wood and tending the fire for many years, but the air quality in a house with a wood stove, with more very fine particulate matter probably is not that healthy an environment.
If we have snow cover I’ve got a nice sized bonfire assembled for the winter solstice. Invites to a couple of friends, lawn chairs at the ready. Brought in a few fresh cut evergreen boughs for a centerpiece and window trimming with the lights.
that sounds wonderful nonq — do you do this each winter solstice?
We also didn’t have any insulation. We had one tiny electric heater with a big room and no double pane windows. The heat just disappeared.
Now I’m trying to keep it all in. Sadly in my effort to seal gaps in the attic I stepped through the ceiling! I’ll save 30 cents a day in BTUs costs but it will cost me 500 bucks to fix the damage. Bad ROI on my part.
No, sometimes New Years, but the crowd that used to get together regularly, has thinned considerably when it comes to this sort of thing. Possibly something to do with age? I do a little camp fire outside a couple times a year, small bonfires more of a rarity.
It’s about time for me to hit my pillow. Good night, all the best Suz. Thanks for being here.
ouch! so lucky you were not hurt spocko
OMG, hope you didn’t hurt yourself, I’ve done ceilings and insulating so am aware of the pitfalls and I hope the insulation has done some good. They don’t show you the stepping through the ceiling stuff on this old house.
I remember an early Bob Villa episode where the homeowners were shingling a tall one story garage roof, Villa was doing the closing shot and in the background there was what appeared to be legs with work boots falling off the hidden scaffold around the corner of the building in the background of the shot. Don’t know if it was real or someone pulling a prank. Blinked twice. Niters.
Yes. But I feel terrible about it. My glasses were slipping off my face and since they were over my dust mask I grabbed at them when they fell and lost my balance. I suppose I could have skipped the dust mask, but there is 100 years of dirt, ash, and other crap up there and I was vacuuming stuff up so we could put in a storage platform and seal up cracks.
I figured that there would be lead paint and other stuff like asbestos up there too. The house was built in 1904 and the attic has never been used before.
We are actually hiring a professional company to do the insulating of the attic. We use licensed contractors and pull permits for the work. The good news is that when the plumber screwed up and his work flooded the downstairs he has to pay. the bad news is that I’m acting like the general contractor and I really don’t know enough to call people on their bullshit.
tis bound to happen at least once when up in the attic spocko…. you have it over and done with now (looking for lemonade here)
35 years experience, I do consulting, send me a photo and ask your questions if you are still in the process.
Peace and Resolve
would you like me to do the email introductions?
I don’t think I mailed anything to you since I switched providers last April and changed mine. If it was yahoo, that is the current one. Toothpicks holding my eyelids open, laters. And thanks again…

Family can be a blessing during the holidays. They can also be the bane of your existence, as this Christmas is proving.
