Citi vows to use bailout money correctly
“Citi understands that (the bailout) is about helping the American people, and supporting U.S. businesses and our communities,” Citi CEO Vikram Pandit said in the report.
Citi has received $45 billion from taxpayers in the last four months.
Citigroup announced on Wednesday that it will cut 11,000 jobs, or 4 percent of its workforce, in an effort to trim expenses.
The moves comes one month after Citigroup paid out nearly $14 million to two former executives, CEO Vikram Pandit and Chief Operating Officer John Havens, who were ousted for poor management.
We better keep the CEO and COO’s taxes low though, to do otherwise would be a crime against freedom.

About Firedoglake
Spend no tears on disgraced former CEO Vikram Pandit — he hauled in $221 million for his five years at Citibank. Yes, a fifth of a billion dollars.
Makes you want to tax ‘em.
Time to get over expecting any corporate entity to protect anything but investor profits, it’s their fiduciary duty under present regulations which favor investor over employee, or public interest.
And the investors cheered and said “More”! Despicable and loathsome, these are the people who blew up the economy and profited from it and now they are ruining more lives so executives can get those enormous bonuses. But let’s look forward, not back, right Mr.s Obama and Holder? After all, there are marijuana law breakers out there to bust.
Spit.
Saw the Seattle skyline all lit up. Nice.
Good morning, pups. Today we have Kristof and Collins. Mr. Kristof has his annual gift column today. In “Gifts That Change Lives” he says if you are looking for ways to say Happy Holidays that are noble and truly make a difference, he lists some little-known organizations doing meaningful work. I’d also ask that you consider Kiva. I’ve been making loans for years. In “Santorum Strikes Again” Ms. Collins has good news, people! Thanks to a big Senate vote this week, now we know what happened to Rick Santorum. There are some things that I’d just as soon NOT know, but if she insists on telling us…
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apricot yogurt scones this morning, from my list of new recipes to try now that I’m not hauling ass into the office every day. YUM! I’ve got to remember to wear the left wrist brace and gobble ibuprofen before bed — I’ve been waking up with that wrist playing merry hell with me. So I’m off to get more tea and gobble ibuprofen now. Have a great day.
Thanks Marion. I give toys to all the toy drives, even Salvation Army angels – though the organization is anti-gays. The kids get the toys, not the creeps.
It’s okay to give the Salvation Army toys but not cash.
Yep, and I think kids will be happy that some one cares about them. (also clothes)
Looks like Puerto Rico is moving toward statehood. It is with the cheerful thought of right wing heads exploding over this that I go to work. Laters!
(OMG! Spell checker hates “Puerto Rico” but loves “Porto Rico”! Goddamn that’s depressing.)
Also see; Spiks.
This is more of the hate that this Obama administration promotes, you see.
OMG! MORE scary brown US citizens.
How will the GOP pollwatchers know who to challenge? or will they set up in P.R. and challenge everybody?
The GOP might be surprised to discover they DO have support in P.R., there are a lot of conservative’s there. If the GOP was to stop with the crusade against everyone Different.
Boxturtle (But I’m sure the GOP sees this as two more Dem senators and a Dem rep)
D.C. needs to petition for statehood too, they need the representation as badly as P.R.
Talk about scaring the wingnuts.
I’m going through kettle withdrawal symptoms this year. Other groups are getting the donations, but nothing beats the rush of hitting the kettle.
Kettle-Anon, anyone?
Here we have some stores that do not allow the ‘ringers’ at the doors, and even the ones that do are okay if you go early enough while the santas are having their prayer meetings.
I thought I’d have guilt pangs walking by the kettles. But this year I see the kettle, hear the bell, think “bigot”, and walk on by. Just like Pavlov, no remorse at all, easy as pie.
Knowing you’re giving to good charities helps to ease the pain. I’m going to take Marion’s advice and look into Kiva.
