Robert Earl Keen — Merry Christmas From The Family.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how ya doing this fine friday night?
Oh Suze, that Robert Earl Keen song is hysterical. Love the rhyme: Harlingen/kin to them. ; )
At least when I took my Mexican (-American) home to the family, we were already married and they were forewarned. heh.
Getting sleepy, but had to watch the video and then had to comment.
Are you home from Jen’s, or blogging from her house?
hey tejan — i love that line i can’t remember how i’m kin to them its my fav holiday song :) i’m home — spent the afternoon with jen and julsie (well, before her nap) and then brought home the turkey carcass — which is boiling away on the stove.
how did ya spend the day?
That is a wonderful tune/vid, Suz. Gotta watch it again!
the road goes on forever
Uh…think I musta wasted the day…can’t think of much. I kept meaning to go to the grocery for a few things…figured it wouldn’t be mobbed. But I never went. Cats on lap much of the day.
A little cleaning up earlier. Meant to read one of the many books I have from the library or take another stab at knitting…instead, pretty much on the interwebz all day long.
Called my mom a couple times…she sounded good: bored and ready to go home as soon as they’ll let her. ;-)
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight? so glad ya liked it — i’ve used that song for several years now but it is one that just needs repeating :)
so good that she’s coming home soon… lardy that was a horrible scare for ya — you totally needed a down day after that
feeling good again
Wonder if CE will show up – she posted a lovely picture of her deck – where they sat out in the warm sun yesterday – showing the “first snow” of the season.
Global warming makes weather so confusing!
wasn’t that just magical! i hope she does stop by
Re Road Goes on Forever: wonder if I’ve never listened to the words before? The chorus is very familiar and the tune…but the words, I don’t remember them at all!
you’ve might have heard it on the radio — the album cut got lotsa air time
he’s a wonderful story teller
Maybe…if while driving, might not have paid close attention.
i am totally failing grammahood — i once again forgot to take my forking camera to jen’s. remembered it about 3 minutes after i got to her house.
rek plays santa cruz fairly regularly, as mentioned in this song by todd snider
LOL. Maybe you need to keep one there…no, then you’d leave it behind. Hmmm.
A laminated reminder note:
DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT THE CAMERA!!!!!
You stick it up by the door before you pack, then when you’re walking out to leave without it, you remember!
Watching Guy Clark, Buddy Rich, Bonnie Raitt and a whole lot more on a PBS special, Americana masters. Just saw a re-run of Neil Young American Masters. Some nostalgia and recollections of times behind us.
My day has blocked itself out in spurts and starts and between intensive activities and short naps. Took to baking and kitchen needing attention, rearranging the freezer in a food rotational check. Found a frozen turkey breast I bought on sale not too long ago that I was going to have for TG. Good timing! ;-)
i forgot to put it in my purse last night. that’s how i usually remember but i totally forgot *sigh*
hey nonq — ohmystars – i’ll keep my eyes peeled for that pbs show. i spent yesterday feasting on downtown manner (season one) and the first three parts of broadway: the american musical (the last 3 parts are shown next week).
how was your feast yesterday?
It was nice, my three siblings and families extending in many directions, tons of food, mentioned it this morning at Over Easy for the play by play. Bonnie is on with Are you Ready for a thang called Love.
Tejanarusa, three pups with the same bread book, I got a chuckle out of that this morning.
thang called love
rek and todd singing to sleepy john (also mentioned in the todd link upthread)
Hi, nonq! Yeah, me, too.Afraid it’s sorta generational.
I gotta toddle off to bed, but will leave y’all with this REK song, and note that it was recorded just up the road a piece from me. ; )
sleepy john is a dj at kpig
S**t. Guess I am sleepy. Forgot the link.
love that song — sleep well and g’nite tejan
I watched Downtown manners, both seasons, as they were presented, an hour at a time was a nice pace for me. It is one of about three hours of TV a week through the winter.
Sleep tight, dream well.
opb is doing a season two repeat in december before the new season three starts in january. i don’t know how i missed seeing these — by the time i heard about them, season one was almost over and i figured it was too late to start watching.
I have three channels at best, reception on the antennae, so it is pretty simple for me to not be distracted by whatever else is out there.
Is the family a lot happier to see you now that you are only visiting on occasion and not a full time guest? ;-)
i think so. its easier for an adult child when one’s mother is not living in their living room in a hospital bed. altho today jen said i was not living there — i only staying there so i think there may still be a wee bit more time needed
Well, you are so lucky they have you and you them. My teen is in full social rebellion mode, not nasty to me at all (she still pops over to whatever I’m doing twice a day and actually starts a nice little conversation about something). Always a treat for me.
I had a few of the names wrong before, but here is the source of the special I saw a few minutes ago. Americana Music Association link. It was the 2012 festival highlights.
Wow, you have edit over here, I keep forgetting that. I won’t keep you up as my tea is gone and so am I. Sweet Dreams.
that’s wonderful that her teen rebellion does not exclude you.
i’ll look for it on my opb pbs station – thanks for the link dood.
jen and i have a date tomorrow — we are going to the movies to see the new bond film. its been a long time since i’ve gone to the movies. i’ve gotta be up a couple hours before the crack of noon tho so i’m gonna get horizontal.
thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight. hope to see ya tomorrow night for cartoons
Was produced in association with Austin City Limits, proly a bit more info there. Niters and thanks for the music. There is a lot of it I have not a clue about.
Doorbusters! Black Friday! Doorbusters! Buy! Buy! It is up to us to keep those Chinese workers employed.
Always a treat! I used to get the “Name this Musician” quiz regularly, I failed miserably. But, I grew to really like the music they were into because I had to actually listen to it, hoping to pass the quiz.
They claimed it was pay back for 8 years of Susuki violin lessons…..fair enough.!
But seriously 2 Shot at a Tellahassee Walmart. One man pulled a gun on a line jumper.
But the best story is the guy whose mother told the police that he had bought 2 semi automatic weapons 400 rounds of ammo and he was going to Walmart because he was afraid of running out of ammo if he went to shoot people at the Twilight movie.
I want people to know of this story so we can stop others.
With all due respect, Spocko……we can’t stop crazy. We’re not equipped. Our Social Fabric has been shredded and the people who need help to deal with their Demons are being cast back into the herd. The better to scare us all.
David Rockefeller said it best when asked when his goal would be reached; “When they’re all chipped.” We are the herd to be culled and tagged.
They chip Saudi women now, don’t they? Such a small pack of Evil Bastards, such a big chore load.
I’m thinking it’s better to focus our attention on the task of reaching out to our own Communities and finding common spirit within our own neighborhoods.
Fuck, I hate when I go all “Pollyanna”!!
Pollyanna has 10 more minutes before her homemade bread comes out of the oven. Literally.
The bestest news is that 117 ALEC connected Political Grifters lost their seats this election cycle.
Our own Rob McKenna, aka Moderate Republican, Wa. has a beautiful thank you note to the organizer from ALEC , it’s an act of simple beauty. I spent so many hours researching ALEC when I first got drift of it, knowing they were attacking Washington state as a crucial point of the Sane Human Triangle. New York, California, Washington.
We Are The 99%!
Hey Suz, I am getting a new computer next week, shite, a buncha money, but I can’t take it with my old thing as slow as you know what, and my laptop dead. I will be working on the ornaments now. Hope to have them done in a couple of days.
Have fun with Jen at the movies.
late to the party (darn work schedule) but had to comment anyhow because DAYUMN I LOVE THAT SONG. I played it for some coworkers last week and we all had a good laugh.
My thanksgiving was wonderful, but the leftovers have been a problem. The first plate of leftovers i had, on thanksgiving night when i got home, i made the mistake of sharing some turkey tidbits with the kittens. They LURRRVVVVED the real thing not from a can. Now they expect me to share each time and are quite insistent with climbing right up whatever available surface my body presents. I’ve had to shut myself into a room to eat in peace.
