I’m so stoked. I had a great horned owl serenading me this evening from my own yard.
However, based on the cat’s behavior when I went outside to see if I could see it, in the dark (duh), and the dog’s behavior toward the cat when we finally came back in, I’m thinkin’ the cat may have been on the owl’s dinner menu. I’ve been trying to get rid of the cat for the past 7 years, but I don’t wish that on her. On the other hand, she sleeps on the roof, a lot, and at night, so I’d think if she were going to get picked off by an owl it would have happened a long time ago.
it was clear and lovely here too — got up to 54 here but the sun, altho pretty, really could not fight the chill in teh air. my ankles got chilled just walking out to the mailbox today
tomorrow our weather patterns is supposed to change and we are in for a typical fall drenching with rain from friday through thanksgiving…
I’m thinking they are rather common here. I’ve seen and/or heard more of them since moving to Florida then ever before. We have little screech or burrowing owls here, that I’ve seen. And I’ve heard the big bad owls before, since moving into the city, but never had one in a tree in the yard until tonight. Thanks to the dog barking at it, I almost didn’t realize it was outside.
When we lived in “old” Florida, they were really common.
i’m learning the birds of st helens… found my binocs but have yet to find my book of birds in the pacific northwest… the wee birds (finches and chickadees) have discovered my bird feeder so its been fun watching them. token sits on the sofa arm staring out the window intently. he wants to catch a bird so bad…
its been an off day for me… the knee isn’t liking the chillier temps (altho they are great for sleeping) and when the knee is unhappy, the right hip gets unhappy too.
My dog doesn’t harbor any fantasies about catching a bird. The cat on the other hand… a couple of weeks ago I had to “rescue” one she had caught. The cat is so lazy that it has to be a no-brainer type catch, which that was. Last week I was sitting on the side porch in one chair, the cat was sleeping directly across from me in another chair, when a squirrel walked right up to us, went under the chair the cat was on, out the other side, walked down to the end of the porch, sniffed around a bit, and returned the same way. The cat opened her eyes, once the squirrel got under her chair, watched the squirrel return under her chair, and then went back to sleep. Maybe I should quit feeding high-end cat food without preservatives.
token thinks he is part cat. he imprinted on bailey cat when he was a young pup and didn’t realize he was a dog. he loves to chase birds and run up to cats to touch noses… unfortunately, the local cats think he is running to chase them and then when they start running, his inner dog comes out and … well, i end up yelling at him
My day was fine. Spent a part of it hanging upside down another part getting a massage and the rest looking over proofs for a new brochure. What’s not to like?
Wife and I saw some very strange lights last night that just bounced around the sky in odd repeating patterns for half an hour. Absolutely could not explain what they were. Called brother, who has a Ph.D. in physics, he was at a loss as well. And, no, I hadn’t had any mushrooms.
I dunno. These were right over the seventh fairway. 550 yards par 5.
Odd thing was they didn’t look like objects, just lights as if someone was shining several searchlights up in the sky, but with no trails to the ground and moving very, very fast.
how interesting….not ball lightning or anything like that… could the moisture from the sprinklers on the golfcourse cause a micro-fog that was illumiated by lights???
Nope, My bro thought the same thing, since there is heavy sunspot activity, but I’ve seen the Northern Lights when I lived in Alaska, and this was NOTHING like them. They were repeating patterns of concentrated spots of light with no color about the size of a pea held at arm’s length with fizzy edges.
Anyway, I used to say that my contempt for Joe Lieberman is infinite and eternal and that hasn’t changed, but now I say my contempt for John McCain is infinite and eternal. What’s with these cranky old men?
Had a run of bad luck with technology.
From out of the blue I got locked out of my
registered email for alanm, and my pw was there
(fortunately nothing important was there, and
I’m not alanm for anything important on the web
either, so it could’ve been much worse.)
FDL might as well retire that user id.
Then, because of slow confirmation emails, it
was difficult re-registering.
As to Item 16 on the list there, I’d simply like
knowing if someone HAS to go naked (insurance
wise–has nothing to do with clothes) for 6 months
before being eligible for high risk exchange access.
If yes, where in the Affordability Act is that?
Though replacing a shell game, of course, it’s really
a monumental perfecting of monopoly, including
the triumph of pricing control and passing risk to
taxpayers, along with covering WalMart’s benefits
for them.
It’s a little like opaque food contents so
insecticide corn syrup is everyone’s basic
underlying food.
But if one has to go naked before being eligible
for the high risk exchanges, even if the latter
will get shafted along with Medicare and Social
Security
g’evening pups — how was your day today?
Hey! Am I the first here?
hey ce — ya sure are :) how’s cleveland tonight?
Loving the show “Totally Biasedl”
i’ve been on a pbs and science channel jag lately
Beautiful. Clear and lovely. It is very late for me, and I’m leaving soon. Watching tv show “Totally Biased.”

hiya CE – how’s everything out east?
Hell. Oh Awl.
its been an off day for me… the knee isn’t liking the chillier temps (altho they are great for sleeping) and when the knee is unhappy, the right hip gets unhappy too.
hey morris — is that indicative of your day?
*edit* i just said it out loud and got it…. hehehehe i’m gonna steal that one

Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! Suz, did you see the line up of stars that will be at MSG on 12/12/12 for Sandy Relief efforts…?

aloha tut — i sure did. i hope they have a better sound system than the nbc show did… lardy that was painful
how’s paradise tonight?
that’s tickling a memory cell or two about strange lights — in the joshua tree area maybe???
hiya CT
I dunno. These were right over the seventh fairway. 550 yards par 5.

Pretty decent here in paradise…! I’m really looking forward to working up top tomorrow nite, with it being the peak nite of the Perseids…! ;-)
Are the northern lights in southern skies? It happens sometimes.
how interesting….not ball lightning or anything like that… could the moisture from the sprinklers on the golfcourse cause a micro-fog that was illumiated by lights???
i’m so jealous. the clouds and heavy rains return so once again, i’m gonna miss out
*le sigh*

does the pd in your area use drones?
I doubt it. They looked to be about 1,000 to 2,000 feet in the air. Maybe more.
No, and no mechanical thing could have duplicated the speed and jagged movements.
Thanks, actually I use sunspot activity to dose my dog’s seizure meds. May seem strange, but it works.
how bizare… were they seen anywhere else?
were they like this morris?
Anyway, I used to say that my contempt for Joe Lieberman is infinite and eternal and that hasn’t changed, but now I say my contempt for John McCain is infinite and eternal. What’s with these cranky old men?
here’s a utube of the lights at night
mccain has totally jumped the shark — blowing off the sharing of info in committee to bitch to the press about the lack of information being shared
Sort of. Except there were many at once, (maybe 4 to 7) moving quickly in different patterns.
a search of the utubes shows they happen enough to get video’d down there….
wonder what the hell causes them
sort of. The ones we saw we less distinct, not as bright, and moving very fast.
how bizarre
Well, I’ve a hard day ahead tomorrow doing something or other, so I guess I’ll say night all.
g’nite morris
Could whoever put this

up
please indicate where I can self-verify
this: Item 16 in the chart:
There will be
an elimination of lifetime coverage limits, a high risk
pool for those who have been uninsured for more than
6 months,
That obviously renders ObamaCare nothing
more than a cruel hoax. The charade of a
chameleon.
hey alan — how ya doing tonight? what post is that from?
tis about time for get horizontal pups. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
g’nite all
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
