g’evening pups — how’s everyone doing tonight?
Hey, Suz. Windy at my part of paradise…. way windy. But I’m enjoying the family visits. All good in the Nard.
hey dearie — excellent! i thought that i would not miss the wind at the coast but the rain here is so silent — not banging on the windows like it did there. whatcha got on tap for the weekend?
Various family gatherings over the weekend….really fun. My other daughter and her family are coming in from Montana; my brother’s daughter and husband coming in from The City. A big gathering planned to celebrate my dad’s 95th. Just fun stuff…… and lots of time in the pool at the wonderful home my sister rented in Santa Barbara. Couldn’t ask for more!
I tried the turkey sausage experiment tonight with mixed results. I think it’s going to work, but I got the proportions wrong. I’ve never worked with fennel or red pepper flakes before, so I grabbed a recipe from the net. It was – aggressive.
I have a mortar and pestle – next time I’m going to grind the fennel seed and red pepper flakes. Also add more garlic and tone down the pepper. From that I’ll get a dry mix that I can add as appropriate.
But it was definitely sausage-y I had to oil the non-stick pan a little since it was near zero fat. I had it along with homemade hash browns made from previously baked yukon golds with olive oil, minced onion, and a little more garlic powder.
most excellent — you’ve talked before about this gathering and celebration — its gonna be great!
hey dave — yay that it was sausage-y! what other food experiments are ya gonna do?
Yum~
I’ve got the non-fat tomato cream sauce thing I want to try once I get this sausage thing ironed out.
This ground turkey is really nice. Without seasoning it would be pretty plain, but it cooks into a firm mass almost like chicken breast. I suppose I could make turkey burgers with some suitable seasoning and toppings.
i think so too…. turkey burgers are great
have you ever loved a woman
Hey all, hope all is well with all. I’m prepping for a spontaneous dinner party tomorrow. My last weekend of respite from elder care.
Gonna party like a teenager!!!!!
hey openhope — whatcha gonna fix?
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Doing fine tonite, how’s the hamlet, Suz…?
bb king medley

Smoked ginger beef with home-canned tomatoes and home grown onion. Ginger rice with strips of cooked egg(homegrown). Stir-fry from the garden-some frozen, some fresh. Also, my specialty Sesame Noodles. Fried wonton skins as crispy food with home canned plum sauce. I’m hoping to steal/create a kickass sriracha hot chili sauce coleslaw I had recently at a local pub. It could work or I could dump it quietly. One never knows with cooking. :)
Brrr… indeed…! Next Friday nite I’ll be seeing that frigid temps up top, meanwhile, I’ll savor my balmy sea level temps…! ;-)
that sound you just heard was my tummy growling… ohmystars that sounds yummy openhope
i’m around 100 ft above sea level
Oh, and Lemon meringue pies, enough for seconds. You betcha!
Aloha, open…! How did you infuse the rice and beef with ginger…?
*le sigh*
i’m gonna have to start baking again…
Yum~ again. What a yummy night this is!
*heh* Residing on the 5th floor, I’m probably 100 ft above sea level too…! ;-)
dirty water
Grab it while you can! Our temps just hit that nasty cold damp, the beginning of weather to come. Just when I thought I’d cruise for a few days after harvest….the cold wind is blowing through the doorframes, it’s time to insulate. and the last 10 chickens still need culling………
house of blue lights
I didn’t. I’m keeping the beef pure, it’s salted and waiting for smoking. I want it to pop. The sauce is ginger/garlic.
The rice is an old caterer trick of adding dried ginger and tumeric to rice cooked in chicken stock. I don’t know why but it’s delicious! The julienne scrambled egg strips are added at the last minute.
What’s goin’ on, y’all?
hey that guy — how ya doing tonight? i saw your good news on facebook — well done dood!
Dirty Water
evening, Suzzzz …. firegods
had no idea pete did rockabilly… sweet!
Hey you.
hey ppd – how’s the monterey bay tonight?
My computer speakers aren’t working and I’m sad! I need new music RIGHT NOW.
Doin ok. Made birria de chivo to eat over the weekend. I LOVE mixing different quantities of dried chiles and tasting what happens. Diabetes teaches you to eat but also forces you to learn to cook. I can eat that pot of birria and I might get FAT but I won’t spike my BG.
Oh my…! Check out this old article from January of last year… Travels with Paula (I): A time to build and here’s Joshua Foust’s take on it at the time… The Unforgivable Horror of Village Razing… I’m certainly shedding no tears over Paula and Betrayus’s fall from grace…!
Pete has a HUGE treasure trove of unreleased songs and writings. Every time I think I’ve heard it all, I find something like this.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I can’t eat rice. Not much anyway and it has to be brown rice or wild rice. When I go to Asian restaurants I take my food scale so I know how much I have on the plate. I know how much I can have.
rice would be a hard one for me to have to give up. dang dood, i bet its a real treat for ya when ya do get to have some
I had a recent adventure at Harborview Medical Center Brain Trauma unit and a wonderful woman/nurse who was also into Food As Health explained the relationship between grains and major health issues. Our anatomy wasn’t designed o eat all these grains. Or the molecular re-engineered salt, sugar and foods Frankenfood Inc. has introduced into America since the 50′s. Our bodies can’t physically respond to that manmade compound.
Like dogs and chocolate.
I do short grain brown rice. I threw in the Sesame Noodles because they’re a Comfort Food. We need comfort, but it’s a killer! I’ SO doing the butter and lard Pate Brisee for my pies. It’s classic and must be done.
i’m starting to nod off pups. thanks for letting me hang out here with you tonight — hope to see ya tomorrow night for cartoons.
g’nite all
Me too.
Thanks for being here, Suzanne and friends of FDL. I’m really glad your voices are here.
Most sincerely
My favorite rice is jasmine rice…! Now, NMA kicks some butt… Keep The Devil Down…
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
I can’t cook Jasmine rice because it causes a gag reaction in my partner. Only short grained brown rice works. As an Applied Science fiend I’d love to know why. But, it’s out of my paygrade…………..
Goodnight Suzanne. Goodnight,Token.
night, Suzzz – be well
Darn it! Everyone goes to bed at midnight. I do not.
peace with strength
Good morning, pups. Today we have Blow, Nocera and Kristof. Apparently Ms. Collins will appear tomorrow. Mr. Blow did an “Election Data Dive” and says the election is over. President Obama won. And there are lots of interesting facts and figures for you to use to impress your friends. Mr. Nocera asks “No Heat Till Christmas?” He says Mayor Bloomberg once said New York City didn’t need FEMA’s help. A visit to the Rockaways shows the city needs all the help it can get. Mr. Kristof has a question in “When War Comes Home:” Did war turn a decorated soldier into a murderer?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got your choice of eggs Benedict or eggs Florentine today. I think I’ll go with the Florentine because I’m a die-hard spinach lover. Today is going to be a day full of errands, so I’m going to get started on exciting things like laundry before we sally forth. Have a great day.
