About Firedoglake
Top o’ the evening to you, Suz! I am steaming squash for soup tomorrow, so I gotta stay awake a while.
hey bg — how long does it take to steam squash?
It takes a while. . .til the fork goes in easy.
How’s your tree project coming along? I have not had time for the ornaments yet, but I have been thinking and experimenting a little.
ahhhh i’ve always roasted squash — not steamed it and it too is in the oven until the fork goes in easy….
Aloha, Suz, bg, and lln pups…! *g*
There may be hope for humanity yet, a local high school student who is a special needs student/mentally challenged, was crowned homecoming king.
I know I could roast it, that may be a better way, it is probably about the same timewise, don’t know if the flavor is better w/roasting, maybe it is.
today i got some glittery blue and silver ornaments. they were in a box and some of them had hangers on them but the majority of them didn’t. i’ve only hit one store so far in my quest for the right colors. they didn’t have the lime green or fushia or purple ones out yet. the good news is they are shatterproof :)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
hey tuez — how wonderful! great memories not only for him but for the entire school. how was your day?
It’s become more common, the next generations are moving the goal posts, thank goodness.
I got some stuff in those colors, I know you want it sparkly, so I won’t be too funky with materials.
My day was fine. The weather has improved, finally. Back to wearing shorts.
Et tu?
tis so sweet of ya to make me one bg (((bg)))
If we could just get rid of the curmudgeonly old white guys, humanity would be better off.
back into the 50′s and drizzly today unlike the 60′s earlier in the week. should clear up sunday tho and the weather dood said it may hit 70 — gonna be sunshine – or as i like to call it this time of year — that strange yellow round thing is going to be in the sky
I’ll make a couple when I get going on it.
Hey CT, how’s the Occupation of Hilo going these days?
I made a plastic shelter for my tomatoes the other day, got it up in an hour and a half. I think it has been too hot in the day and some of the vines got a little roasted, and it has not been a hard freeze like they predicted yet, so I may still have a nice batch of tomatoes into November.
Twice now I’ve tried to vote early and twice I’ve run into lines that snaked around buildings and down streets. I guess I’ll wait until Tuesday but I’d really like to get it over with.
my neighbor brought over 3 medium tomatoes off his vines. i can’t believe his maters are still producing in november. in oregon. in northern oregon *laughing* sure are good. he’s been bringing them over just as they start to turn from green and within a day or two of sitting on my counter they are good to go
i heard florida was making it really hard for those who want to vote early to do so. that’s horrible that the lines are that long — its gonna be even worse on election day i fear
We’re expecting to make a big splash on the shores of Hilo Bay, Mon. nite…! The Guv, Mazie Hirono, and, most of Hawaii’s State and Local Dims, will all be in attendance at Hilo’s Mo’oheau Bandstand, we’ll be directly across the street with our LED Light Brigade…! Yee-haw…! ;-)
Amy G had on some Occupiers helping in the Sandy aftermath. It’s a good time to bring it back on.
Citizen Suzanne:
Somehow havin’ the Muppets up ta have the last word before Mittens Romney implodes with the world watchin’…well that’s good! Have ya voted yet Sister Suzanne…been workin’ the ground here in our little corner of fascist-land and it’s been interestin’ to see folks bringin’ their shit early. Local city clerk (who runs the entire city operation) said that in the first week they had 3 times the number they’ve had totally in the years since they instituted early voting. Wisconsin is gunna be a bellweather…I think our senate race is gunna tell a lot about how much we can get a progressive power center to counter lame-duck ObamaRahma’s plans to cut a “grand bargain” with the crypto-Nazis after the first of the year.
KEEP THE FAITH BUT PASS THE AMMUNITION AND REMEMBER THERE IS NO COMPROMISIN’ WITH FASCISTS!!
what’s the occasion they are gathering for tut?
norske! dood, tis good to see your fonts. hell yes i voted — i mailed that forker in about 10 days ago. how ya been? what’s your read of the pulse among the voters comrade?
We used to have 2 weeks for early voting but uncle Fester changed it to 8 days. I’m just glad people are voting.
Aloha, Comrade Norske…! It’s been awhile…! As SD always said: Never. Give. Up.
Sister Suzanne:
It’s all about turnout here in Cheeseland…there is every possiblity that not only will we drive a stake through Zombie Tommy Thompson but Rob Zerban could make it a long night for Paul Ryan…he may get a “twofer” and lose his House seat too!
I was talking to one of my neighbors, she said that the reservoir has never been dry before that anyone can remember. No sign of rain. I’m thinking the high pressure cell in the Atlantic will mean another warm dry winter for us.
If you think New Yorkers were shocked when the ocean came to visit them, wait until there is famine in America.
i’m so glad voldomort isn’t my gov….that should be fucking illegal
i would love love love it if granny killer ryan lost twice tues night…. hell, i might even make a schadenfreude pie
Brother CTuttle:
Yeah bro’ the world is a little darker without the Dragonman…rest in peace trooper.
Rob Zerban could make it a long night for Paul Ryan…he may get a “twofer” and lose his House seat too!
OH, that would be so freaking awesome, Norske. I was thinking about you the other day, thinking I had not seen you in a while. I knew you were working the hustings, thanks for that.
hey dave — its totally dry? whoa…. that is forking scary dood
Very few things would make me happier than Ryan joining the unemployed. Along with Bachmann, West, and a few others of their ilk.
Given the volume of early voting in various states, and the modest upturn in Obama’s numbers, I’m thinking that the undecided voters (those who have already voted made a decision, even if they flipped a coin, so the remaining sample is rich in undecideds) are breaking for Democrats. Could spell good news for down ticket races.
We have been feeling that loss for sure. Never. Give. Up.
It’s a two-part reservoir, the upper part is dry (had some puddles last week, but I hear they are gone too). The lower part still has some but it is low.
Ken Burns’ new doc is all about the dust bowl times. TEN Years of it, shite.
To his credit, or maybe it’s the local board of elections, the polling places stay open until everyone in line, at closing time, has voted.
It’s called the ‘Democratic Revolution’, the first inter-islandwide rally, that swept the Dems into power in ’54(territorial legislature, at that time supplanting the Sugar Plantation Repugs) was held there, and, every two years since they’ve gathered there, did I mention the Honolulu Media will be ther, too…? ;-)
jeebus.. you are in the 4 corners area of colorado am i right?
I suppose I should charge up my camera and walk down the boat ramp, then climb down to the bottom and take a picture.
i’m looking forward to seeing that… my dad was a kid in kansas during the dust bowl (born in 26) and he never talked about those years other than to say they were hard
Yup.
that’s a plus but still the lines — he could fix that if he wanted too. all sortsa shenanigans going on with voting all over the place as swoopa’s post pointed out.
Citizen bgrothus:
Don’t hang out around here much…read all the postings durin the day but I just don’t have time to argue with folks who complain about havin ta walk around with wet feet when they spend the entire day pissin in their own shoes.
Anyway, my kids and grandkids are where it’s at and I’m convinced that I won’t live ta see the changes we need but my kids and their kids will.
*rubbing hands together gleefully*
and then write a diary post about it so we can read it, recommend and tweet it. folks need to know that the drought is not over
They busted a Republican election official in Clackamas County who was filling in Republicans in ballots with choices left blank.
Lotsa skullduggery happening, but it won’t be enough. Not this time.
We’re gonna show ‘em how it’s done…! ;-)
norske — got some newer stuff (pictures and video) of jujube over at my place that i put up in october. hard to believe she’s gonna be 19 months on the 9th
all over the news here — been the lead story since it started to break late this afternoon. one station reported that an estimated 95,000 votes had already been cast in clackamas county
*heh* Ya suffer fools lightly, eh Comrade…? ;-)
Drought drove the Anasazi out 800 years ago. This one will be worse. I’m not sure there will be very many living in the SW in 50 years. Certainly not the numbers that live here now.
There are ruins all through the back country. It’s a little reminder that we can fail.
east coast got a reminder of that this week — lotsa shocked folks realizing that it *can* happen to them
Sister Suzanne:
Like the sign on my mother-in-law’s desk said: “If I had known how wonderful grandchildren are I would have had ‘em first!”
Enjoy Dear Heart and take the time ta see what she sees through eyes that see what we can’t anymore.
I have spent a few afternoons/evenings knocking on doors and phone banking. I don’t have much of a sense of things, but I look at fivethirtyeight and feel hopeful that Rmoney won’t be having any success on Tuesday, which matters to me, plus also the down ticket races, I have a few friends running and sure hope to see them get elected.
that’s one of the things i love about little ones… looking at things through her eyes. right now, she’s at the stage where she thinks everything handed to her is a toy — be it a box or whatnot — she delights in exploring all its options for play
I love it when they start to be able to express their ideas, which happens so early, when they start to put a few words together, heck even one word will tell a tale sometimes.
It takes two to hear the truth, one to speak and one to listen.
People stuck their heads in the sand regarding climate change, particularly as the economy fell apart. But lots of media types live and work in NYC. Now that they’ve had the sea come to visit they are ready to listen, at least until the next shiny object comes along.
BTW, if both the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets were to fully melt, sea level would be halfway up the legs of the Statue of Liberty.
she’s still ‘talking’ a mile a minute but only a few of her words are understandable
Sister Suzanne:
I told my youngest who just defended her Master’s thesis last week that I will always be lookin’ around in her head because it’s my only link to the future that I will not live to experience.
i think it would be a great discussion on a thread — if ya take pictures that makes it even easier for folks to see just how dire it is
Has anyone seen this vid at Tbogg’s place? I’m not sure if I should laugh or cry. Obama is all at once a Muslim, communist, socialist and Christian and the Buddhists are taking over America.
Comment 9 is priceless.
her masters? already? dang time flies
i wont watch the video (i’m with pw on that one) but dang that 9th comment in his thread is priceless
If anyone is interested, rumor has it that Grayson is a shoe-in. I don’t much like his worship of all things D, but even I will be glad to hear his counter arguments, even if he usually folds.
how serious has been the threat against him? i’ve not kept up this year
Yeah…sigh…youngest finishes her Masters so all three of my kids have MA’s and I’m afraid the youngest ain’t done yet ‘cuz it looks like her thesis my get published this Spring and a couple Phd programs are shakin’ her down.
i was talking with my youngest tonight — she’s gonna be 24 next month and was bemoaning how fast time is going by. i tried not to laugh when i told her just wait until you are my age to see how fast time can really go
After watching that TBogg vid, I am convinced. Rmoney is the bomb. And his supporters also, too.
i just don’t understand how a month ago he was the laughing stock of the race and now is neck and neck
In one interview I heard, he claimed that redistricting actually gave him the only true blue district in the state. For the most part, he acts like he is in a heated race, which is another reason I’m pissed at him for not informing those of us no longer in his district that a real
socialistprogressive was running here.it seems that no matter how good they are once they get there, getting there turns them into one of the gold ole boys dancing to the same ole tune of $$$
That’s the thing, conservatives don’t even know what they are for. There are a whole lot of reasons not to support Obama, but they can’t even name one, that’s real. Well, okay, one woman mentioned drones but Romney is sure to expand that.
Suz, I don’t believe it is all that close. I believe most of the honest pollsters know that Mittmentum stopped a couple of weeks ago. I hope I am not wrong, but I don’t think there is much of a chance that the crazy wins.
Mmmmmm….Banana Splits. May I please have a hot fudge sundae, also, too? And some pie? And what the hell, throw in a dark chocolate cake while you’re at it.
i noticed that it was as if the media had all decided they wanted it to be a close race so they could hype it and after repeating that often enough, folks believe that it is closer than it is.
hey shoto *laughing* how ya been?
I will confess to being a bit worried about the probable chicanery that may occur in certain voting precincts, whether electronic or otherwise.
Day at a time. A bit of insomnia this evening, however.
i’m sorry that’s the reason you are up but i’m glad you are here. here’s your banana split
Yeah, if they say it looks like O will win, they will be accused of suppressing/discouraging the R vote. And plus ratings, also.
Shoto, I am worried about that for sure. I learned from more than one source today that NM has the best vote audit system in the country, and paper ballots. I have a friend who worked very hard on the audit element, to get it right.
I definitely need one of those fancy, magic machine gizmos. ;-)
Especially with reports in the past day or two that Gingrich and Ryan had all conceded the race to Obama, via internal emails.
I consider paper ballots to be the gold standard, and in the case of NM, enhanced by a good audit system as backup. Hows about we nationalize that standard?
maybe for your birthday…
Where did you hear that? I can’t imagine the Zombie-Eyed Granny-Starver doing that (let alone, Newt, the Blowhard), but stranger things have happened.
Cool. Only 8 1/2 months to wait until 07/15.
of course you could always take a chance with santa but then that would bring up that awkward question
pie’s been delayed
Which awkward question? Whether Santa has actually enslaved small people to cobble up toys in his “workshop,” after which he commandeers defenseless reindeers to haul him all the way around the world in one night? I’ll bet he won’t even let them unionize. That awkward question? heh
i always got tripped up with that ‘have you been a good girl’ thing because i can be really good at being bad….
Well, I did participate in the paper ballot initiative. My state senator was very upset by a number of things in the 2004 election, and we got it done the next year, I think. We had some strong supporters. I don’t think Bill Richardson was sold on the idea, but he signed it when it got done, and we have had paper ballots ever since. I know there were a lot of people who thought we were “going backwards,” but now it is no issue, so the public got educated for sure.
I did not know the audit element had been finished up, but I give all credit to a few people, one in particular. He is great. Was an IAEA inspector in Iraq and knew that bill of goods (WMD) was a scam.
Looks like he might have gotten that pie dough from “Aliens.” What other explanation could there be for that (apparent) monster erupting from the, um, chest of the dough?
Bad can be good, alright…
Well, llners, Suz, it was fun. My squash is done, and I am off to try to read a few lines before sleep. Good to see you all. I mostly fall asleep before LLN anymore.
That’s some very good seasoning, alright. Sounds like NM is on the right track, for sure.
Tomorrow is the last day of my father’s business. Buh bye, BH. It might be a little sad.
Voluntary, or otherwise?
*laughing* and a lot more fun
i’ll be thinking of ya bg — g’nite hon
someone took the brown acid
Voluntary. It has become a burden in so many ways. But it has been a major tourist stop for people from all over the world. My father was a showman, and we lost that when he died. It has been a slow decline, but the worst part is that the volume of stuff is enormous, so getting rid of it is a major big deal. We start with the semis next week.
congrats on snaggin the happy lucky 99 bg
NIghters, all. Do take care, and Never. Give. Up.
Fork, I missed that. Been a while. OK, now for le poof.
I should prolly try to expire, as well. Tomorrow’s another day. Thanks to everyone, and special thanks to Suzanne for being the Hostess with the Mostess.
Here’s a tune…
And another tune, along with a bit of narrative.
g’nite shoto
tis about time for me to turn into a pumpkin myself….
g’nite all
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
.. lurking a’fore bedtime to feel the vibe .. I am hoping we see the lesser of two evils prevail .. baby steps .. stay safe, all ..
Good morning, pups. We’ve got Blow, Nocera and Collins today. Mr. Blow has a question: “Is Romney Unraveling?” He asks: How did Mitt Romney come so, so close? With the finish line in sight, the tea leaves don’t look so good for him. From your lips to God’s ear, Mr. Blow, but I just watched a commercial on my TV with someone dressed as a doctor telling us that Obamacare will destroy the American health care system. We apparently have to vote for Money Boo Boo to prevent our children from dying like rats in the street, or something. Let no lie go unsaid… Mr. Nocera, in “The Mayor’s Barrier,” says here are some ideas for New York to think about after Hurricane Sandy, especially if the city wants to better protect itself. Ms. Collins has “The Last Election List:” there’s so little time and so much to do before the Big Day!
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup for breakfast. Since it’s been getting cooler at night the kittens often want to stay inside. It’s challenging to sleep in a bed full of kittens (and they’re getting to be pretty big kittens now, at 7 months) playing King of the Mountain. Especially when sometimes I’m designated the peak of the mountain… Have a great day.
Good Morning, What gets you up in such good spirits? Have a good one, All. And, Never Give Up, the everlasting Mantra; Make SD proud.
