Hello everyone! Phoenix here, enjoying a nice dry Samhain and thinking about the things that go bump in the night as they search for beef chow mein. (Which, by the way, you really can get at Lee Ho Fook’s. Seriously.)
A-hoooooooo! (Or as Jesse Ventura would say, A-HOOOOOOO!) I’d better make sure the Fluffy White Couch Dogs stay inside tonight!
So what’s on your minds this All Hallows’ Eve?

About Firedoglake
I miss Richard. :(
Sorry, you asked what was on my mind.
PW!
Quiet night in the northern Rockies. Rather warm for this time of year and clear skies. Another appropriate Zevon tune.
pw! warren!
I miss Richard, too. He went so fast, when he went.
Of all the people I would have selected for a nice healthy, happy, faculties-intact immortality, he would have been high on the list.
PW!
Suz!
Jesse Ventura tried to get him to follow up their “Werewolves” duet with that song, but Warren wasn’t buying it. :-)
So do we all.
It always winds up the same: Somebody goes to the doctor for a minor complaint or an entirely unrelated complaint and then gets diagnosed with cancer. They begin aggressive treatment and a few weeks later, that person is dead. The same thing happened to my dad. It makes me wonder how much longer Richard may have had if he had refused treatment. Crap.
Going to bed. Oya all.
ohmystars — the first 12 minutes of jon stewart is outstanding!
crap, i missed it.
Night.
Buzzy!
i’m on direct tv so i get the east coast feed…
Give Kuro a few extra ear skritches; Richard would have wanted you to do that. :-)
g’nite margaret
Thanks for the heads up. I kind of figured he and Colbert would be off all week.
And, hey, how about Romney’s group handing out supplies to be donated for Romney’s “save New Jersey” effort. The man is such a Fail.
I ain’t no scaredy cat.
Happy Ancient Irish New Year and all that. What’s on my mind, besides grading exam essays? Pretty near nothing.
PW!
I had the usual 100-150 kids tonight. I always enjoy it but tonight was extra great because of the number of adults and kids(!) who complimented me on my “Vote No” yard sign. I especially enjoyed the kids because they would usually confide to me after telling me they liked my sign “We have one in our yard too!”
What did he do?
Don’t remind me, I have those to look forward to on Monday.
Good for you!
Speaking of “Vote No”, have you ever heard of the “Launderette Story”? That’s the one the pro-voter-suppression folks like to use to “prove” the need for their sucky amendment.
Well, guess what? Sally Jo Sorensen, the bulldogging journalist whose blog Bluestem Prairie is one of the top political blogs out there, has put the thing under heavy scrutiny, and it’s falling apart like toilet paper in a rainstorm. Go here and here and spread the word!
Hey, Suzanne, are you getting any trick-or-treaters at your new home?
I’m thinking the little kids are off to bed, but the teens are probably still out and about. There are no kids in my neighborhood, but we have nice straight streets and little traffic, so it’s a nice area for folks to drive their kids to…… had lots of adorables!
Think I will toddle off as well. Take care all.
While on the subject of Halloween music…
There’s been a few articles written on that very subject and surveys so far show a couple of months more…..in peace and relative comfort. Treatment is physically traumatic, wearing on the body. And, of course, the patient hasn’t the physical resources or the time for recovery. Some of the problem is med personnel who can’t tell a patient, “You don’t have much time, in any case. We can treat you, but it’s debilitating. Maybe you should consider living it up with whatever palliative help we can give you.” Hell, a math instructor’s uncle grabbed every credit card he could get his hands on and charged his last year like there was no tomorrow. For him, there wasn’t and he had a damn good run till he died. The family still laughs about it.
Some of us in NJ are fine. We got almost nothing around here. The electricity went out for a few hours, but that was the extent of the excitement. Not our turn this time.
ya just gotta watch it.. i was laughing so hard and cheering chris christie too
G’night!
only trick or treater i’ve had has been a guy door knocking who is running for county commissioner.
Ha!
The littles are mostly gone to bed, as you say, but my 18 yr old and his two buddies are still out there. They just went out a while ago, just for funs.
Oh, they’re back.
But, what I wanted to say was along with all the princesses, vampires, etc., there was one girl who was Poisin Ivy. Fabulous.
no, hadn’t heard that one as i haven’t been on the computer quite as much lately. I’ll definitely get those stories tweeted & fb’d. Thanks for the rec’s, I was just thinking today that i should take a break from frantic gardening to check on bluestem prairie. It’s not a daily stop for me, but definitely on my bookmarked list of blogs to check regularly. I really admire Sally Jo.
That made me laugh out loud………hope I didn’t scare any little goblins coming up my walkway!
I’ve been impressed by the teens who have come my way on Halloween since I’ve been back in CA….. they actually dress up, and they’ve always been respectful. I don’t know why that surprises me, but it does.
Possibly the scariest costume I’ve heard of all day!
Wow! I hope the math instructor’s uncle’s rellies laughed in the banks’ faces when they tried to bully the family into paying the old fella’s credit-card debts. The family doesn’t have to do squat.
She’s the only local blog that I check every day. Head and shoulders above a lot of the folks that regularly steal stuff from her uncredited.
Well, I gotta hit the hay. Behave yourselves or I’m telling the FWCDs!
Thank you for that!
Was some years ago and banks weren’t quite there yet. No, the CC companies knew they were well and truly stuck. I gather they tried the estate but uncle had thought of that and it was an empty piggy bank.
