My thoughts and prayers to all those in harm’s way…! Stay Safe…!
What’s on your mind tonite…?
.. thought of you CTut .. thru 18″ of snow .. hope all yer folk are well
great version of this song — so soulful. aloha tut
.. ah .. I wish all the best on you this eve .. an active, lady friend of mine just broke an ankle .. apparently dignity is at stake .. loss of mobility would add a dimension to aging equal to a loss of reason .. *warm smile*****
Aloha, tearloch…! When was the last time that you’d heard of a Tropical Cyclone, or even a Tropical Storm spawning snow in it’s wake…? I mean Really…? Quebec, Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia are expected to see snowfall…! ;-)
I love this song.
I feel so bad for the people living through Sandy. The hell they’ve been living through for the past 24 hours and it’s not over yet. I’ve been through it and can’t imagine what they are going through.
The eye of the storm is on (or was a couple of hours ago) right on D.C.
Tut, did you ever get any tsunami waves on Hilo?
Hi Kids. Wonderful warm day on the left coast. Had a long chat with my sister, who is over on the right coast, and am glad to report that she and her family are weathering this storm well. They have tickets to come out on Thursday…. but with 20,000 (Imagine!) flights canceled, I hope that their tickets are honored. We’ll see……..
been there – done that *laughing* i hope your friend has an easy and uneventful recovery tearloch
Take your bird for a ride
Eric totally rulz the Universe, Suz…! I saw this toob, as per yer reccomendation, and, I was sold…! ;-)
And thanks to Sandy a cold front has Florida expected to set record cold temps tonight. In the 40s, ferchristsake.
The fuckin’ storm stretches from one end of N. America to the other. Even S. Florida is still negatively affected by it.
Aloha, tuez…! How’s floridaze tonite…?
I don’t see it in the ten day forecasts in that area.
can’t go wrong with stormy monday on a stormy monday…. and we all know that tueday’s gonna be just as bad (riffing on the lyric)
duane did it best
Aloha, Starbuck…! Hilo Bay experienced a surge of 19 inches above normal, but, the whole Bay did recede enough to strand a bunch of yachts…!
Aloha, Dearie…! Always a pleasure…!
Amazing, isn’t it? Sandy took a sharp turn up Chesapeake Bay and slammed into DC.
I wonder what the fundies will make of this…..
Honestly, we all should be in a New York State Of Mind… They’re getting hammered…! 8-(
albert and srv also did a great version
Floridaze is cold.
And the dog realized this afternoon this was her kind of weather and, well, I’ve got a puppy again.
The good news, hubby started his new job today. I’m waiting for him to come home with his “impressions”.
Only a category 1 storm at that! Major surge, however. Flooding all around Long Island
frankie‘s state of mind
Nature has it’s version of October Surprise.
steph called tonight and we determined that it has been warmer here than it is at her school. i got up to 73 today and my low last night was 56
The 11 o’clock news showed massive flooding in Manhattan and, evidently, Atlantic City is no more.
no kidding! i heard rumors on the twitter today that this may have killed the rest of the presidential campaign season. no way this is gonna be a quick and easy fix
Sandy is pushing a cold front down this way, that normally would have headed straight east. I guess, since the alternative would be the NE getting hit with massive amounts of snow, and not rain, I’ll take it.
I saw a shot of Ground Zero. It has waterfalls!
And you are where?
I wonder if Obama has the ability to cancel the election. I wonder if any government entity can.
Not to mention the fact, unlike New Orleans, there is no way in hell this can get blamed on blacks deserving it. Half the fucking country is from New Jersey. Myself included.
I saw that too.
I’m in Orlando now.
But, Starbuck, Sandy is twice as large as Irene…
I was gonna make a sassy about Chris Christie….. but, you know, he actually was gracious today and credited Obama and FEMA with taking good care of NJ…. so I’ll retain my sass for some other time.
And on the opposite side of the country, my SO and I spent the afternoon wandering around Edgefield shooting photos. I fixed her up with a different lens, one with better macro capabilities and her output is marvelous! We’re looking at them as I type.
But the nasty people will say that Gawd is punishing Washington DC and the surrounding area for the Affordable Care Act, continued abortions caused by non-intentional rape and a black president.
Bad Moon Rising…
tis a national tragedy and the only $$$ that matters is what was spent on prevention and preparedness – which was far too little. maybe now we will get some infrastructure funding and some fucking jobs created.
Exactly, but still only Category 1.
Climate change has lots of interesting things in store for us.
It occurred to me that Chris Christie is gonna ride this as far as he can. Not. Good.
*snerk* full moon and all…. and a great tune
Yep. It’s a phundie phenomenon.
This time around, I don’t think that will fly. All the “serious” people live in NJ and NY. Best I can tell DC wasn’t hit that hard.
One map showed the eye right over DC this evening.
NYC!? The phundies hate them some NYC!
*heh* Quebucois, quipped earlier that Montreal smells like Atlantic City…! I wouldn’t doubt it…! ;-)
per the weather channel, sandy’s eye came ashore near cape may new jersey — in southern new jersey
Let me find the link, but the eye was gone; however the storm pretty much hit Atlantic city head on.
*sigh* I know I shouldn’t think it, but…! ;-)
Here it hit near Atlantic City.
The SS checks begin going out on the 3rd.
Yes???
Rock You Like a Hurricane…
ABC News has a bunch of videos…none of them running!
I would like to say, even though I’m kinda biased, having grown up in Jersey. NJ has some of the best beaches in the world. And I’ve lived in NC and Florida since, so there. I’m heartbroken over what is happening at the shore in Jersey.
NJ has some pretty wonderful forests, too. I really like it there.
*heh* That incestuous Cesspool needs a good flushing, imho, K street most especially…! ;-)
Hey, y’all.
There was a great liveblog of NYC/Sandy over at dKos, but they said their servers were in NYC, now the site is gone.
Huffpo has some interesting shots.
Manhattan with water up to the hoods of cars.
The subway entrances had sheets of plywood and sandbags around them. Not going to stop the ocean from coming in.
Four feet of water in one tunnel. I don’t see how they don’t all flood. They must have pumps, but not enough to hold back the sea.
13 foot storm surge.
Millions without power – some of these people never keep more than a day’s food on hand.
Give me the West Coast. Take you to the Opal Creek watershed and blow your mind!
This is a fun map
Sandy at 952 mb. That would be one heck of a hurricane, but this is some new kind of storm. Lots of energy, not a conventional hurricane/cyclone.
OK, then the eye didn’t hit DC.
Where is that? I live on the American River. Used to live in the Bay Area.
The eye isn’t the key to this storm like a hurricane – it’s blasting everything for hundreds of miles. Lots of energy.
Image from this morning
Yup, there’s a hurricane buried in there, somewhere.
Yes, I know, but it was too satisfying a thought. Symbolic and all that.
It almost looks like a double eye on that photo.
.. nothing to say but *** hug ***** ../s

For that, I would learn to fly!
I second that motion! Maybe in my next life I will fly with falcons.
Dang, nahant, that blew up my piddley-ass screen…! ;-)

Before the Deluge…
I love wunderground. Have been following this blog at night.

Best of luck, tearloch…! ;-)
I would say, tearloch, that you’d fight a $5 Billion dollar undersea electric cable,(Like I am) just as much as Keystone XL’s ridiculous bluff to send the tarsands to BC…!
Against the Wind…
I can remember it snowing either during the eye of a hurricane or right after it passed over. It didn’t last long. I think it was Hurricane Betsy.
The Better Half was just reflecting back on Betsy, and she remembers some snow falling in the Leominster-Fitchburg area…! ;-)
Check this out.

It is the gif of the NY Mayor’s ASL interpreter.
I took a year of ASL because I thought it looked cool.
Tried to meet a deaf girl with the language skills of a 5 year old. “You pretty face. Me like you pretty face. My name is Spocko.” Awkward.
…“You pretty face. Me like you pretty face. My name is Spocko.”
Aloha, spocko…! I’d learned in Germany that the effort alone was sufficient…! Just ask JFK…! ;-)
I met her on a weekend “no talking” retreat. It was very frustrating because i consider my best skill talking and making jokes. And many of my jokes are based on vocal inflections. So I was really hampered. I could use my face to show emotion but couldn’t share it. Then I realized how hard it was for them to communicate.
*heh* I shit you not, I just shared a pic of a store sign from Central CT. saying; ‘Thanks to Sandy, We are out of condoms, rolling papers, and beer’…
Good thing I own a bong…! ;-)
Blowing in the Wind…
I’ve had the pleasure to work with a lot of deaf denizens, I always found them to be the most deft of observers, spocko…! They read one’s entire persona and/or actions…! ;-)
One last tune, for all the beleaguered souls from Sandy… Bridge Over Troubled Water, Central Park … Stay Safe, ya’ll…! *g*
Aloha Oe…!
