hey bg — how’s nm tonight? i’m as well as i can be. i’ve made the decision to have total knee replacement surgery as soon as i can get it scheduled. had a long talk with my physical therapist yesterday about the status of my leg. unfortunately, altho i did all the things i was supposed to do, the acceptable level of deformity is no longer acceptable. i’m bone on bone and its just going to get worse and my pain levels are rising. best to just get it done and over with

hey rond — how ya doing tonight? i just made the decision tonight. tomomrrow i’m calling the ortho office and telling them to arrange it. tis better to have healing pain than pain that comes from destruction.

Suz, it is miraculous what they can do now with these surgeries. At the same time, I hate for you to have to do it, but suffering instead is No Good. I will try to watch for the updates and will be supporting you from afar. What a year this has been for you.

CT, the liquidation is going well. We had a fantastic weekend and got a lot of stuff gone, and we hope to continue to see things go to a highest best use at every stage. We hope to have one of our long-time customers get a few more semi-loads out in the next couple of weeks or so, and then maybe will have some free days for some others before we have to let the scrappers at it. It is a huge process, can’t complain how it has gone so far. People have had some good buys, that’s what we want.

i’ve been hearing good reports and talked to the pt lady about post surgery recovery. she said, baring any complications *knocking on wood* that i should be able to return home after the surgery since my place is so small. i still have the walker, crutches and cane so i can use them as needed. she said i would be able to care for token post surgery.

Just about. This semester I am taking US Cold War and the Soviet Experience in WW2, with independent study on mercenaries, the SAS, French intelligence, and the KGB in the Third World. I am co-teaching Twentieth Century Warfare, designing the WW2 curriculum for the Community Ed office, doing maps for a book on WW1, reviewing a book on WW2, and some course design for a local aviation museum/attraction.

Wow, it looks like a lot when you put it all down at once. I’m also recovering from a motorcycle crash.

*waves at bfl* yep, doing pretty well all things considered … i don’t much make it to LLN anymore (SOB) because i switched to weekend shift, 3-12′s, 5am to 5:30 pm. And dang, the alarm rings pretty darn early when you have to be at work at 5am and somewhat coherent. And then, i turn into a pumpkin between 8:30 & 9:30 pm. blergh. That early morning crap sure cuts into the prime blogging time.

been in a rather long funk which does not seem to have crossed into a depression; money issues, missing the kids, a healthy dose of self-pity thrown in (ok, not healthy); up and down; i may need meds; like most here i’m kind of a political junkie and you can’t beat the entertainment we get every four years

A week ago. A two-lane offramp; I’m alone in the left lane. Without warning, an SUV in the right lane swerves in front of me, and hit his brakes, I hit the pavement as he sped away; him leaving the scene actually saved me from hitting or going under his vehicle. I’m remarkably undamaged; some rash on the L forearm and a sprained right knee. This is why I always wear the helmet, jacket, and boots-All The Gear, All The Time-If I had had my jacket fastened, it wouldn’t have ridden up, and I would have been without a scratch.

Very light damage to the bike, as well. Bent handlebars; the case guards, footpeg, and exhaust held the bike up off of me. Got it back up, and a few minutes later, rode it home. A truly amazing machine.

He’d experienced 3 Grand Mal seizures within a 24 hr period, and the main prognosis was that it was fever-induced, which has since subsided, ndfg…!

Hey Suz. Finally a nite off. Went to town to watch the latest episode of the Kilchers in Alaska on Discovery. The frikkin bars were standing room only. I could not hear a thing and walked home. Life in the last frontier. So wet here of late even at 47F it feels cold. Perhaps we are just too skinny.

yikes! Even tho the fever has subsided, best to rule out other problems. Something similar occurred with one of my cousins oldest, and he’s grown up to be a bright, good-looking guy with wife & daughter. So I do hope your munchkin is over any problems. It sure wrings our hearts, doesn’t it!

Gotta go, the pressure gauge finally’s back down to 0. Time to load the next batch and be done with beans.
Moving on tomorrow to frying breaded hard-fleshed heirloom zucchini medallions for easy frozen food. The “other meat”. They are awesome to have in the freezer. But not my favorite job.
