King has made innumerable racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobic and simply stupid statements in his career — sadly some of these statements have political support from his conservative base. But there is generally one area that even the far-right and far-left agree — naturally it isn’t about human beings, it is about dogs. Steve King is so dumb and thuggish he defends dog fighting.
Even in the most conservative household that would be unpopular. It is also hard to get that story out.
Four Iowa television stations are refusing to air a TV ad from an animal welfare political group that criticizes U.S. Rep. Steve King for opposing federal legislation that would ban people from taking children to animal fights.
Officials with KCCI-TV and WHO-TV in Des Moines, WOI-TV in West Des Moines and KCAU-TV in Sioux City today confirmed they have rejected the ad from the Humane Society Legislative Fund, based in Washington, D.C. The fund said today it is launching a TV ad campaign opposing King’s reelection to Congress on TV stations in the Sioux City, Des Moines and Mason City television markets. King is a Republican from Kiron in northwest Iowa.
The reason is that the commercial shows the by-product of animal cruelty, the cruelty Steve King supports — meaning they may allow the ad to run, as long as it is cleaned up…maybe with a Sarah McLachlan song?
Goodness forbid the ad be accurate.

Round up the usual suspects.
KCCI-TV — CBS
WHO-TV — NBC
WOI-TV — ABC
KCAU-TV — ABC
What happened to that pesky free speech thing-y. The HS Legislative Fund has the money to run the ad and SCOTUS says money equals free speech.
Meanwhile, they will run any fabrication at all…as long as it comes from King, right?
King revels in his inhumanity, like most wingnuts feeling if it offends libruls it has to be good. I heard him defend slaughtering horses, on the floor of the House, with a sneer insisting it would help our balance of trade with France. The man is sick.
Quoting King should always include a disclaimer, but is often simply presented as anyone reputable’s statements would be.
Finally–an Attatturk post that I understand. :)
I have a gay friend to whom Fred Phelps is “too stupid to be offensive”. Though I don’t share that sentiment, I get what he’s saying. Both Phelps and King could have been comedians if they weren’t so full of hatred.
You’ve heard some of Rush Limbaugh’s raving? Some consider that comedy.
Sarah McLachlan and Roberta Flack have earned a pass on their SPCA commercials. Point of Personal Privilege. I don’t care if it’s Queen of Mean money.
As long as we know who’s putting something out there, it should be okay. I don’t think the superPacs are actively seeking animal abuse are they? yet?
Yep, the MSM in a nutshell:
“_____________ says that the moon is made of green cheese and that if we sent all Islamic people there, they would have plenty to eat. His opponent, _________ says that’s obviously absurd. The controversy erupted when…….”
“He said, she said without a single drop of critical thinking and reporting.
If only they began such quotes with ______________ said. I hear the statements themselves given as if they were fact all to often.
He’s hiding behind “states rights”. Just like the GOP does with anything racist or homophobic.
And the heck of it is, you can make the case that he really DOES believe it’s a states rights issue, as nobody has ever accused him of taking money from dogfighting interests. Just too narrowminded to see the results of his “states rights” crusade in this case.
Boxturtle (Wonder why DogOnTheCar didn’t pick him is VP? No worse than Ryan)
States’ rights is infinitely usable, and was the basis for Paul insisting private business owners have the right to refuse service to dark colored potential patrons (job creators).
The question is, do these stations run this ad which is full of images of animal cruelty, including damage down in dog fighting? If so, then they need to answer for their hypocrisy.
I’m told horse is good eating. Never had any myself, but it’s common in Europe.
Boxturtle (I’d probably try it, but dunno if I could get over the concept of eating Silver)
Some consider it news.
Boxturtle (In my case, I suppose the term would be bloviating)
The pictures on my mail from some animal welfare organizations are pretty bad, make me not open them.
That’s not exactly the ad I had in mind but there are too many of them up on youtube for me to sift through them between now and when I have to go to work. You get the idea though.
Good morning, pups. This morning we’ve got Dowd and Friedman. MoDo has a question: “Why Not Debtor’s Prison?” She says in a dog-eat-dog world, President Obama is the cat, and Mitt Romney is chasing his own tail. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Backlash to the Backlash,” says Muslim moderates have been fighting back. While it’s not clear whether the trend can be sustained, it’s certainly worth watching.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got blueberry pancakes this morning. Running very late this morning (up too late last night… I’m getting too old for that nonsense!). Have a great day.
Even Rush says he’s ‘entertaiment’ – like excrement jokes, imho.
Thanks, Marion. More animal abuse! The wingnuts have really bad taste.
I wasn’t attempting to evaluate their efficacy, just pointing out some possible hypocrisy.
Gotta go to work.
I consider the pictures a variety of porn, and yes, an exercise of freedom of expression that contradicts publishing other varieties of prurient material.
Debtors Prison. The very idea that it should be seriously discussed it hideous.
If you don’t pay a bankster, the state will lock you up at taxpayer expense and then you’ll never be able to pay. The bankster’s investment in private prisons pays off.
And by carefully directing unpayable loans to probably democratic voters, they could help elect republicans.
Boxturtle (*throws brick at MoDo*)
The concept of bankruptcy is uniquely part of our culture, whereby a debtor could get out from under lifetime debt.
The Red Tribe hasn’t gone there so far. But the day is yet young.
Have a good morning all. Off to the mines.
GOP translation:
The concept of bankruptcy is
uniquelya socialistic part of our culture, whereby adebtordeadbeat could get out from under lifetimedebtmismanagement by robbing honest job creating bankers.Boxturtle (Stop laughing! It is possible that an honest job creating banker exists!)
There’s gold in them thar bills! (birdwatching is another variety of tourism).
My new interpretation of job creator; the consumer.
SOCIALIST!
Boxturtle (You’re probably Kenyan, too)
I’ve even been known to distribute my own funds, to pay certain bills.
To Mr. King, hate speech, bigotry and stupidity are like a Depression era farmers’ precious seed corn. You just can’t sell all of it this year if you hope to sow more of it in the years ahead. Unfortunately, Mr. King is so morally and ethically bankrupt he’s had to sell all of his these past couple of years just to feed the Know Nothing Empire he’s created in The Heartland. If it weren’t dog fighting as sport we’re talking about then it would be something more familiar to the rest of the country. Perhaps it would be gays in the military, same sex marriage or a variation of George Wallace’s ” pointy headed bureaucrats ” boiler plate. King is, in the end, just another semi-literate Republican carnival barker at a county fair. I guess he’s even worse if you think about it. He’s lost his ability to read the the whole crowd and get them to ” buy into the bullshit ” in mass. Maybe he should go back to Seed Corn Sales 101 School and see if there’s any lessons he’s missed lately. Maybe he could call off the dogs of bigotry long enough to read some reports about GMOs and cancer studies. Yeah, like that’s going to happen when your so busy working the county fair crowd.
if his opponent is kin to gmo vilsack, king is a goner . . .
