John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton — I’m Tore Down, celebrating at John’s 70th Birthday Concert, July 19, 2003.
What’s on your mind?
Does anyone else get their YouTube speeds throttled down at night? I’ve noticed this for a couple of months – somebody, either my local ISP or someone upstream of them throttles down YouTube (not other video, or other sites, my full bandwidth is still available) between 8:30 and (ordinarily) 10:30 pm. Tonight it’s still slow, first time for that. I did a little googling and apparently other people see it as well.
I can also set up multiple downloads and get the same throttled down speed on each one, up to my total bandwidth.
hey wigwam — how’s the inland empire tonight?
hey dave — strange, i’ve not heard of that but then again, i’m a luddite. how ya doing tonight?
Morning temperatures were in the 50′s this morning. Delicious! Windows open everywhere and I was searching for blankets.
I is otay.
I made some notes on the Confederate Constitution post I am working on. I think I’m overthinking this. I should just write the stupid thing and research it later.
from wiki (linked in date of concert in post)– my bold:
70th Birthday Concert is a live Electric blues video recording of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers to celebrate Mayall’s 70th Birthday. Recorded in Liverpool, England on July 19 2003, the concert was notable as it featured Eric Clapton as a guest, so marked the first time he and Mayall had performed together in almost 40 years. The set also features Mick Taylor and Chris Barber.
hey ce — we got down to 51 last night and only up to 67 today. the switch was thrown from summer (yesterday) to fall. i’m doing the same search for blankets :)
you recovered from your trip?
Hi Suz, hi CE and everyone! Cool here too. I was searching for socks.
Beautiful. Upper 70s. But, damn, it’s getting dark early these days.
hey margot — how ya been? i’m wearing my hoodie for the first time since i moved here
Who’s your provider?
Yes, recovered, Hey Suzanne!
Thrown back into work like one missed for 2 weeks (oh, hey, that’s me!). Worked until late these last two nights, and will think about cleaning house this weekend.
weather dood said tonight that we’ve lost 3 and 1/2 hours of sunlight since june….
*laughing* will ya go beyond thinking about it or…. *more laughing* i think about housework a lot yanno
Local telephone company. DSL.
What’s all this talk of needing blankets? What’s a blanket?
Actually, if it weren’t for the humidity, I could probably turn off the air and open the windows at night.
At my latitude we vary between 9 hours of light at winter solstice to 9 hours of dark at summer solstice – 6 hour change in six months, or two minutes per day. It’s linear.
Equinox is in three days, which should give 12 hours light/dark.
i noticed when i moved 700 miles north to oregon how much longer it stayed light in the summer — unheard of down in the bay area. i’m much more tuned into sunsets than sunrises since i don’t like getting up before the crack of noon
If all your neighbors hop on the internet at the same time, it will slow you down. IIRC, it’s more noticeable on DSL than cable internet. I used to be able to tell when all the kids got home from school, internet slowed to a crawl.
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight?
I’m doing fine.
How are you likin’ your new digs and neighborhood? Now that you’ve been there awhile.
Cable broadband is a local area network and works just like that. DSL should be dedicated bandwidth, and in fact my bandwidth is intact, it’s only YouTube.
I’ve been up and down. OK now. Trying to play Words With Friends and my old grade school pals are freakishly good, darn them.
That’s it for tonight. Off to bed. Sleep well peeps.
i yam. i like that there is a coffee shack i can walk to. my neighbors are good people. am pretty used to the usual noises now and can pretty much id some of their cars by the sound of their engine *laughing*
Getting things exactly backwards is pretty typical for me. LOL.
i’ve been on a bejeweled blitz tear lately…. its not that i’m any good – just determined and after all these months, i’m finally sorta maybe able to get a decent score every now and then.
82 eye for an eye
I’m glad to hear you can walk to the neighborhood coffee shack. That’s a big improvement, eh?
sure is! token gets all excited when he sees me putting on my walking shoes and grabbing the cane and his leash. tis his favorite walk :) mine too
Tuez, democracy got FUCKED in orange county, man
hey bfl — how’s tcb tonight (besides fucked)?
room to move
TCB is OK, i guess, it’s the county that’s fucked, indeed, democracy is fucked; the Chamber of Commerce wanted a referndum kept off the ballot in November because of the large turnout of people it would help 9it’s a mandatory sick pay question), so bingo, it’s off– has the requisite # of signatures but they wanted it delayed, at least, so the County Commissioners did– now they have time to file more legal challenges– they are represented by Charlie Wells who you may remember being on the FL Supreme Court during Bush v Gore– needlessto say, a heavy hitter
Is that the sick pay thing?
Yup, democracy was reamed a new one.
What I found telling was the complaint that businesses would go out of business. If a business with 15 or more employees can’t afford to pay sick pay, they have no business being in business.
LOVE that– brings back lotsa memories
jeebus — they are getting so fucking brazen in their power-grabbing
tis a great version of it too — sounds fresh and jam-ish
I so agree! I think we are approaching that point where we are going to need to try some general strikes: You don’t do right and we won’t buy your product. I wonder if the general populace is waking up enough to step up?
walking on sunset
I had to post this song, Judy Collins singing Someday Soon. Just love it.
Commissioners say they need more time to study the language for the ballot summary and title– bullsbit, the language that they’ll adopt will be whatever the Chamber tells them to adopt
One of the other arguments was that it should be state wide and not just the county; however, sometimes you just have to start local. Canada got universal health care province by province.
oh that’s lovely — not heard that in forking years — thanks margot
hey dearie — how ya doing tonight?
all’s good…..lovely at the beach….cooler nights, blue-sky days. no complaints!
no; it’s not; from what I see in FL, anyway
Hey BFL, I’ve got jury duty, again, on the 9th, anything exciting on the docket? And why is it this is my 4th summons in like 6 or 7 years? Have I reached the right demographic or what? How the fuck am I supposed to be d/t at 8 in the morning. I don’t normally get up until at least 9, sometimes 11.
fall is one of my fav times at the beach… the crispness in the air and the smell of woodsmoke and hearty stews cooking… summer has completely different smells than fall does
Brazen indeed, here’s our supposedly ‘progressive’ Gov, recently…
Governor blasts agency’s critics
“Abercrombie said some of the “vicious commentary” from critics — including a missive from Frankel last week that told Donalyn Dela Cruz, the governor’s press secretary, to “Stop lying to the public!” — has not moved him to reconsider the corporation.
“My support? It gets stronger,” the governor said. “When I see people out there pushing people around. When I see people out there saying ‘We get to decide.’ What do you mean we get to decide?
“The legislators ran for election. I ran for election.”"
Here’s a great background article on the PLDC… Public Land Development Corporation’s New Jingle: ‘Trust in Me’…
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Speaking of summer smells, this sounds like a new “spin the absurd”. On the news tonight they mentioned that a study has found cooking a charbroiled hamburger lets off as much exhaust as a semi driving almost 150 miles on the highway. What new evil is big business trying to hide?
i’ll meet you there;i’ll try to think of someplace
far as i know it’s the usual bullshit on the docket
get there EARLY; it’s CRAZY on mondays when all the new jury people come in– plus the usual domestic violence people, child support deadbeat people, no-show warrant people, drivers license problem people and all the rest
jeebus… i’m surprised the reporter/anchor was able to report that with a straight face
They didn’t buy it.
maybe because they have sick leave due to their union contracts?
Actually, it’s a Tuesday. Is that any saner?
After my last presentation as a potential juror, I figured I’d be blacklisted for life. I guess they just like to annoy DFH, since no one wants us on the jury.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups….! Another mixed plate weatherwise…!
What Ambercrombie fails to mention is the fact that they took a bill that we all supported throughout the state legislative session, 3 separate committee hearings in both houses, and, three days before the end of the session, gutted the entire bill and replaced it with that odious piece of crap, and before anybody knew it’d been gutted, the Legislators passed it, and Abercrombie quickly signed it…! 8-(
Unfortunately, I can’t find a link to the report. It was absolutely unbelievable. A hamburger and a semi spewing the same nasty shit cooking/running? All I could think of is the spin started decades ago about mesothelioma and even the McDonald’s coffee case. Once you hear the facts, the bullshit is both understandable and unbelievable.
creating that alternate reality
Same shit here. See upthread a little bit. An amendment that had the required number of authenticated signatures to make the November ballot, to require employers of 15 or more employees to pay sick pay, has been kept off the ballot until 2014, because the wording was “confusing”. How fuckin’ confusing is it: if you have 15 or more employees you are required to pay sick time. Seems fairly straightforward to me. But the chamber…
I still hear people complain about that old lady who spilled her coffee. I try to get them to read the facts, but they are not interested….. they know what they believe. We are awash in stupidity and misplaced ‘belief.’
there are those who don’t let the facts get in their way — unfortunately, a lot of them are politicians
Ain’t that the truth.
they are not even trying to hide their lies lately either…
token needs to save a tree and i need to supervise that before that blasted pill kicks in … thanks for hanging out tonight
