Mornin’, freedom fighters
Thanks, SD, the coast around Panama City, FL was one place I noticed people’s beaches riding up onto the porch. Lots of waterfront property is going under in Norfolk, VA, too.
Good morning, Ruth and SD.
Looking forward to Marx class.
Edit – welcome back, Ruth. Has it cooled off a bit?
Good morning all. Thanks for th post and host SoDrag.
Apparently there is breaking news this morning; Mitt Romney is really kind of an asshole. Who knew?
Funny that the right wing has not discovered yet that inheritance is not a matter of earning your way, and its beneficiaries aren’t all that talented.
That GOP farm bill obstruction could cost them big. A lot of their support comes from god-fearing, conservative farmers who do not consider the farm bill socialist. If the Dems are smart enough to beat on it in the house races, the farmers aren’t going to care if the candidate who supports that bill is pro-life or pro-choice.
Boxturtle (Wonder if they’re smart enough. So far, Brown (OH-Senate) isn’t)
It’s because Al Gore is fat and went swimming.
Boxturtle (Am I the first to say that?)
Yes, it’s really nice, and I’m getting back into a functional mode. Coming back to months of things to catch up with was a bit whelming for a few days, too.
Farmers depend on weather to grow things, don’t they? Guess they’re used to folding and making do when everything goes against them. But I can hope.
The 47% are not going to be amused.
Well, he wanted his taxes off the font page. Or to be more accurate, the 1% really wanted his taxes off the front page. Before somebody they haven’t bought looks into THEIR taxes for the same things.
Boxturtle (Anybody think Mitt is the ONLY investor in the Caymens?)
Who will be prosecuting the Peregrine Financial sleaze? Will it be the state or does it go higher than that?
The sad part about the release of Rmoney’s tape is that it totally drowned out Santorum telling fundies that they’re dumb.
Rmoney backing it off: “It’s not elegantly stated”.
Somewhere, his handlers are already drinking vodka (Grey Goose, probably) right from the bottle.
Boxturtle (Would not want that job no matter the salary)
Given that 1% would be more than 3 million people I don’t think Mitt is alone with his Cayman bank accounts.
I personally am waiting for this to come up with my more conservative co-workers. Several of whom have stay at home wifes so it must be pointed out that Mitt was included them in the freeloading 47 that pay no income taxes.
Glad to see you back, Ruth! Hope it’s cooler there now. We’re having rain and a distinct cool-down here in NW Indiana. High today only 59º
And good morning everyone!
Assumes a fact not in evidence…
And I like Sherrod Brown, mostly.
The dressage miffs them a bit, also. Especially for trying to deduct the Rmoneys’ contributions to the Olympic equestrian training program.
Hi, glad it’s cooled off, can live like almost normal people. It’s too late for the crops, but I’m waiting for Rmoney to explain that there are support programs for that, and he won’t tell his plan to cut them off.
Good morning firedogs. Can we declare RMoney’s campaign DOA?
I can’t see a path to winning, aside from downright cheating.
Yeah, Brown is a good joe. Not perfect, but except for me who is?
Boxturtle (And I did say “If”)
I’m sorta sorry to see summer go. July was unbearably hot, but August, and so far, September, have been glorious. I enjoy autumn, but snowy, miserable winter isn’t far behind.
Morning SD & Pupses:
Foof Extraordinaire.
Ian Masters interviews Mikey Weinstein.
I was away from the toobz most of the day yesterday, so followed up on the Rmoney tape this morning after reading comments upthread. WOW. Mother Jones has excerpts and quotes.
Good morning everyone.
Thank you for the post SouthernDragon.
Being one of the 47%ers, I know I am in good company this morning.
That makes (at least) one of us. I am so done with summer that I don’t even know how to articulate it.
After 11 years of supporting all war all the time Rep Bill Young (FL-13) told the Tampa Bay Times editorial board yesterday that he wants us to pull out of Afghanistan, saying “We are killing kids that don’t need to die.”
That the whole campaign seems to be based on appealing only to their base, who Santorum points out will never include the elite, smart kind, I am afraid they must count on cheating. Scary.
Other than cheating, what do they need? Ohio will be diebold and close enough for that to matter.
Kidding aside, I think the election is slipping away from Rmoney. Even with their vote supression efforts, I don’t think it’ll be close enough to matter in the swing states. The GOP in Ohio has pissed off the Vets by pretending that their vote supression efforts are designed to HELP veterans vote. The military is a significant source of GOP votes in Ohio.
Boxturtle (Support on both sies is VERY soft, one gaffe could reverse things)
Last week we were the 99%. Confusing.
but Mitt, you weren’t answering a question about how you were going to win…
judge a Mitt by the company he keeps…
sex party Leder the host of this event. Heckuva a job, right, Values Voters?
Because somewhere there are kids that DO need to die? What the fuck kind of statement is that?
I suppose I could be getting hung up on the wording, but that seems messed up.
Ruth,
I should have included the other 52% with the known 47% mentioned by Romney to his rich friends. There, fixed it. *g*
Glad to see that you are getting back to normal after being overwhelmed on returning home.
Obama can win just by staying on track.
RMoney has no hope now, in my opinion. His chances were slim anyway, then he went and had that disastrous European Tour, the Olympic Horse gaffes, the Ryan pick, the terrible convention, and now this.
He’ll be lucky to lose by less than 5 million votes, methinks.
Santorum’s statement over the weekend (at least that’s when I saw it) cracked me up. He’s such a rube.
No doubt behind closed doors he was telling supporters that this was healthy population control and jobs program. Wow.
Thanks. the math is hard work. I always get some form of bad air on airplanes, land and have to recover, then get months’ thrown at me to catch up on this time. But getting my water wings back on.
Young is 81. He’s not lost an election in 20 cycles. Seeing some of his other comments this time out I’d have to say the old dude is slipping. I don’t remember the last time he spoke with the editorial board. He doesn’t campaign, hasn’t for years.
Six years ago I was campaign treasurer for the Dem (Samm Simpson) who got the most votes against Young, ever, a whopping 34%. Mayhaps the times they are a’changin’.
Fox claims that Rmoney is standing by his statements, just wishing he’d phrased it better.
Is ANYBODY home at Rmoney campaign HQ?
Boxturtle (Coffin, meet nail)
What a disgusting comment by this creep.
How about all those kids that have been killed or maimed since Bush/Cheney took us to war in the first place or is he just waking up to the fact that maybe, just maybe his constituents are getting tired of these illegal wars?
Does he have a challenger for this election cycle that could beat him?
Yeah, you may be getting hung up on awkward wording. No kids need to die, and I think that’s Young’s point.
But we’re killing adults who don’t need to die either.
I’m just pleased he FINALLY woke up and smelled the gunpowder.
Boxturtle (now, if somebody could just get through to Obama)
Someone was asking about you last week, said you hadn’t been around. Hope everything is OK. Where do you live?
I was miserable in July’s extreme heat, but I will be equally miserable in about January or February. NW Indiana winters are NO fun.
Don’t get overconfident. The election is between “I’m NOT Obama” and “We suck less”.
Boxturtle (he’s still not Obama. And “We suck less” is open to debate)
As I’ve gotten older I’ve no tolerance for chickenhawks. None. Zip. Nada.
Wanna hear me go ballistic, just let a chickenhawk open their trap around me.

I see you answered my question when you responded to Kris at #39.
Thanks.

Russell Wasendorf, the founder and CEO of Peregrine Financial Group, is being prosecuted by the feds.
Years ago I knew him. He really lost his way.
Gotta get stuff done now, thanks for good company.

I gotta figure a way to get you and Rummy into the same room. I’ll make MILLIONS on popcorn!
Boxturtle (I like chickenhawk. Baste with butter and paprika and into a 350 oven…)
Dare I say: It’s all going to come down to turnout.
Republicans vote consistently.
Dems, not so much.
As much as I hate to say it, Pottersville may be moving down south to Vero Beach, Florida and that’s going to require some help. More details here.
(I like chickenhawk. Baste with butter and paprika and into a 350 oven…)
Tastes just like roadrunner.
True. BUT two of the GOPers best voting demographics, retirees and military, are unhappy with Mitt for various reasons. They’ll still vote.
Boxturtle (Hopes the elderly hammer Mitt and that Obama takes notice)
In from outside chores, Omi, if we get a peek at Mitt’s taxes he’s likely one of the 47% paying no taxes and living on government enabled largess.
My mom is elderly.
She was employed outside of the home for over four decades. During that time she took wonderful care of her family.
She still lives in her own home. She lives off of Social Security, a small pension, her savings and a few small miscellaneous investments.
She does not pay federal income tax.
Romney said this about my mom and millions like her.
I spoke with her last night. It was the second time I ever heard her swear.
Damn old gold,
That was just about the same thing my elderly mother said about that as well.
Soli deo gloria:)
I wonder if DOJ will try to hold him up as a “big fish” and call things even.
That would be rich.
I do hope we get to see.
Oh but it’ll be fun to break out the boiled wool mittens, hats, mufflers and sweaters. I made some for Occupy Rochester last winter, and saw some mittens at a craft store for a mere $35 the other day.
I may not be an equestrian but I am a clothes horse (don’t hate me for my shallowness).

How was your summer reunion in Decorah?
I hope you had a slice of heaven at Mabe’s and a cone at the Whippy Dip.
You know my mom worked two jobs so that I could go to school there. Of course, Romney wouldn’t know anything about that sort of stuff that goes on in family after family all across America.
Economic Update is now up on Prof Wolff’s site if you’d rather go there than WBAI’s archive.

Marx in the Morning!! I’m marking my calendar…
You have to start wondering about the father if the son turned out to be such a shi.
Morning, pups, from Revelstoke, BC. Switzerland eat your heart out.
I had a great time at my reunion. Mabe’s ,Whippy Dip, and lots of golf.
Best friends I have ever had.
I enjoy our connection. Take care.
Lunchtime at the Diner? Man, I gotta find a way to download the Wolff lectures and get ‘em onto my iPod or something, take ‘em along while driving. Having trouble with iTunes not uploading onto my iPod lately, notto mention the time it wiped everything already there, so I’m kinda leery of using it at all.
sigh. Figuring out tech problems just takes more time and energy than I have, darnit.
Good to see Ruth back as herself, getting out from under chores.
Cooler here, too, though it’s going back up to ninety-ish today. Still, I can cross the parking lot at work with my suit jacket on,so, hey, it’s Fall!
Same here. 90ish but cool mornings. The downside is smoke from forest fires on the east side of the gorge, the east winds which are the source of high temps, is blowing it into Portland. Last night I wondered if the fires were down the street the stench was so bad. Wood smoke mixed it seemed with the smell of burning structures.
Chocolate cupcakes for lunch!
