Chris Knox – Not Given Lightly
I hope ya’ll had a wonderful Labor Day holiday…!
What’s on your mind tonite…?
America…
Hey, CT. Hope all is well in your island paradise.
All You Fascists are Bound to Lose…
Aloha, Dearie…! It was a nice day weather-wise here…! How was your family gathering…?
Aloha!
CT, we went to Edgefield’s this evening to hear some music and who should we sit with but a lady from the Big Island, temporarily here in Portland, staying just about a mile from me. I told her about FDL and you so I’m hoping she will check in and we get a new member.
Warm and friendly. Nice gathering. Got to rest up soon … activities in the a.m.
Aloha, Starbuck…! I’d be cool to have more Big Isle denizens here at the Lake…! And, hopefully at our local Occupy functions…! ;-)
Sounds like a great meet-up, Dearie…!
I think she would be quite an addition. Quite!
Some early Dylan… Working Man Blues…
Great!!!

Woody
Aloha, BFL…! Studs, Judy, Pete, Arlo, etc…
Being a foreign policy geek, this still resonates… Waist Deep in the Big Muddy…
Aloha! did you see cantor’s tweet today
speaking of meetups——- i haven’t seen Tuez, but i haven’t been here all that much
Sure did…! We know which side he’s on…! Which Side Are You On…
Which is also ironic, because Gwen Ifil just had the heads of the SEIU, Afscme, and, Hoffa of the Teamsters, and, when Gwen kept asking them that if it bothered them the DNC convention was being held in a RTW state, and Charlotte, they’d hemmed and hawed, and, blew smoke about how ‘united’ they were behind Obummer…! 8-(
Veal penners.
Good evening.
Another one of those evenings where I crashed after dinner, woke up about an hour ago & slept too much to go right back to sleep.
So I’ll hang out here for a bit, if you don’t mind?
Aloha, eCAHN…! They’re certainly part of the problem and not the solution…!
I’ve mentioned on a couple of threads that I know a prominent labor union lawyer. I’ve known him for years, we share bees, historic houses, cooking, eating, so I haven’t asked him about much in the labor situation yet. I need to get better background first so when I start that conversation I can ask intelligent questions.
Made Up In Blue…
What’s on my mind: PBS, Pat Buchanan and racism
Buchanan was on MSBC as a “regular guest” on various shows for years, despite many racist and xenophobic remarks.
Two books ago, he was widely accused of having written a racist and xenophobic book. (Sorry, I don’t remember the title. Then again, perhaps it is just as well.) He denied it and MSNBC kept him on.
After his most recent book, accusations that it was racist and xenophobic echoed. Finally MSNBC said good bye to him. My only question was why they had not done it years earlier.
However, Pat Buchanan still appears weekly on PBS. That is P for Public. The network gets a boatload of donations, true, but it also gets public funding. And a man who got fired from a private cable station, for pity sakes, sits every week on the panel of The McLaughlin Group, bloviating about politics.
Where is the public, as in P for Public, outcry about that? Why do we allow it?
That is what is on my mind during the wee hours of this morning.
Randomly related thru stream of consciousness.
Do you know that his sister Bay converted from R.C. to Mormon?
Aloha, ncb, It’s a travesty at how far they’ve slewed to the right since McNeil retired and Shrub’s minions have taken over the policy boards…! 8-(
was gonna post that very vid on Youtube today (or another version) but i had already posted

The Ghost of Tom Joad…
It’s worse than that. PTB have coopted every institution in the U.S.: USG, media, universities, think tanks, environmental groups, etc.
I agree that they have, which only makes it that much harder they’ll fall…!
all of them, is right
if nothing else, that’s something you could say about Occupy–they didn’t do it to that

Woody, again
good night, all
Coming to think of it, I did have one conversation with my labor lawyer friend (linked in 19) about labor leadership. I tried not to be my usual self, and asked Qs instead of making accusations. He did seem to agree that labor leaders are compromised, but pointed out, accurately, that they ain’t the only ones.
His excuse for them is that the unions have been under attack for so long (private sector unions peaked at 35% of the private labor force in the 1950s, now down to something like 7%; public sector unions raise the % to about 10% of total labor force) that the leaders feel the need to ‘compromise’ to hold onto what little they have left.
Good night BFL.
This song takes on more interesting implications if you imagine the title line is a reference to the Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs“:
Taste the whip, in love not given lightly…
Pleasant dreams, BFL…!
CT, did you see where U.S. sez it will not support a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran?
Aloha, Swopa…! Great to see ya at lln…! ;-) Love, Love, Love…
But then Carney and Oily Bomber quickly walked it back with the old ‘No Daylight’ crapola…! 8-(
Missed the walkback.
Also Betrayus going to Turkey to give another BJ to Erdogan.
evening, CT – how’s everyone tonight?
*heh* Erdogan is feeling the heat from the Turkish populace over the PKK issue alone, but, they’re also pissed that they’re stirring up the hornet’s nest that is Syria…! Somebody has to reassure Erdogan that it’s all good…! 8-(
Aloha, PPD, how’s Cali tonite…?
It’s dark outside — go figure!
Are you anywhere near the fires?
Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No…
Here’s the WH walkback… ‘No Daylight’ Between US, Israel… And here’s what Erdogan is facing… Violence dims hope of solution to Turkey’s Kurdish conflict…
Hi eCAHN, Not yet — emphasizing, yet. We have a lot of mountainous, wildland areas including Big Sur & Ventana Wilderness. California and the West is getting whacked by huge fires this year.
My first Q when I started focusing on Syria was “what is Erdogan thinking.”
Scott Horton is right, empire and hangers-on of empire makes you stupid.
The Kurd problem in Turkey is just one of the many woes he created for himself.
So I read.
Wishing you good luck in not having any near you.
Meanwhile, we’re scrambling to fully co-opt Mursi… The White House is near a deal to forgive $1 billion in Egyptian debt as part of a plan to bolster Egypt’s move to democracy, administration officials said…
Going to turn in.
Be well.
Well, does that better the deal he got in Beijing? Or is he playing both sides against the middle.
We’ll see.
Now off with me.
Sweet dreams, eCAHN…!
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu for the evening, mahalo for the great company tonite…!
And just because I can… The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face…
Aloha Oe…! *g*
“what is Erdogan thinking.”
Good question… People want new political party and leader, poll shows…
…A Turkish public opinion survey was conducted between 22 and 27 August 2012 by means of in-depth interviews with 3,251 people in 21 provinces in Turkey. On the question of the government’s handling of the Syria affair, only 18% of the interviewees took a positive view of how the Turkish government is handling it; 67% took a negative view; and 15% had no opinion. The survey also showed a significant swing in public opinion against the ruling AKP party’s governance in general, relative to opinion at the time of the parliamentary elections last year on 12 Jun 2011…
*poof*
Great song. Love Chris Knox and the Tall Dwarfs. Love New Zealand bands.
