In his latest thumb-less effort at slight-of-hand, Mitt Romney explains to you that a President does not do much other than cut rich people’s taxes, screw the poor, and bomb Iran:
“Recognize this [abortion rights] is the decision that will be made by the Supreme Court,” he said. “The Democrats try and make this a political issue every four years, but this is a matter in the courts. It’s been settled for some time in the courts.”
I mean, just because at present there are four justices determined to eliminate Roe v. Wade and the next justice will tip the balance doesn’t mean who’s President has anything to do with it, it’s not like the President appoints ‘em, right Mitt?

…that’s pretty good…
This is absolute f*ckery…
Rachel Corrie’s death was an accident, Israeli judge rules
Judge finds no fault in military investigation that cleared defence force of responsibility for protester being killed by bulldozer…
*gah*
Rmoney would prefer not to talk about abortion.
Rmoney would prefer not to talk about his taxes.
Rmoney would prefer not to talk about what he did at Bain.
Rmoney would prefer not to talk about what he did as Governor.
See it’s all her fault for not obeying god’s chosen people orders, who are faultless in anything because they are god’s chosen people.
See as God’s chosen people they can do no wrong as long as they’re God’s chosen people. What part don’t you get God’s gave Israel Palestinian’s to crush and destroy, just like the good old times of the old testament .
God’s told them to smite the Iranians next ,since they are god’s chosen people and can do no wrong.
What the fuck kinda god is this anyway ?.
The vengeful, hateful, old testament kind. The one that supposedly fucked with Job and told Abraham to kill his own son. The one which, for the life of me, I can’t understand why I’m supposed to love and adore. Sorry thumpers, (Christians, Jews and Muslims), but I don’t adore Pol Pot or worship Hitler either.
And you just KNOW that a couple of Justices will retire in the next 4 years. If Mitt wins, it wouldn’t shock me to see Kennedy and Thomas retire. If Obama wins, Thomas will likely try to wait him out.
Boxturtle (FINALLY a reason to vote for Mitt! No more Thomas, maybe!)
Thanks, attaturk, and you can leave out then apostrophe, Presidents is plural enough without it, and really not in the role of leader as Rmoney envisions it, since what he is misleads anyway. If the laws are changed as he and his toadies want, the justices are supposed to rule the other way, of course, but he’s not going to tell voters that or they’d know how choosing him will be the opposite of what they want, and need.
A Guide for the Perplexed (better than Bobo’s).
Good Morning, All
Strange days. Weird news. And, a god created in man’s image, vengeful and selfish.
I might have to go back to bed and stay there. :)
She placed herself in front of a bulldozer to try to stop Israel from crushing yet another home. Did she really expect an Israeli to stop?
A brave woman, but a foolish sacrifice. The BEST she could hope for would have been arrest, poor treatment in Jail, and deportation. And regardless, the house would be bulldozed. And was.
Boxturtle (To stand up to Israel, you need to keep them from just killing you and moving on)
The presidential checklist…
“cut rich people’s taxes” – check
“screw the poor” – check
“bomb” – check
Barack Obama!
Good morning, pups. Mr. Nocera is off today, so we have Brooks, Cohen and Bruni. Bobo has decided to take a whirl at writing comedy. (I know, I know… Republican comedy is an oxymoron…) In “The Real Romney” he gives us a biographical sketch in which he outlines one man’s hardscrabble journey to the top of the Republican ticket. There are parts of it that actually made me smile. Well, more of a grimace or a rictus, actually. Mr. Cohen, in “Obama’s Team of Idolizers,” sniffs about a transformative election failed to produce a transformative president. He managed to make one tiny passing reference to Republican obstructionism. Mr. Bruni, the poor soul, is in Tampa. In “Huggability and Helium” he says the Republican convention in Tampa will be a pantomime of passion for a candidate who doesn’t inspire it.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got apple cranberry muffins this morning. Stony Pillow has inspired me to read “Bartleby, the Scrivener,” which I never have. (I’ll admit that I had to inquire of Teh Great Gazoogle where the quote came from…) Thanks for giving me a taste, SP! Have a great day, y’all.
Yep. He’s cruel, selfish, arrogant, self centered and in every way despicable. I sometimes hope that there is a real god so there will be some consequences for these people who commit such acts in his name.
Thanks, Marion, well anyway giving the secret service nickname as ‘manneguin’ suggests they weren’t exact enough to make it Dummy in Bobo’s little ‘exercise of humor’ – which does suggest he’s had an inspiration from the subject. And failure to acknowledge wingnut obstructionism as a problem is rampant among the bash Obama crew.
Here, it’s even foggy. Kind of muffles the weird, like being way out away from that messy stuff.
I’ve thought that too, but that would be too easy.
Mary’s news upset me last night, but then this morning I read her further comment. Sounds like it should be fixable?
You doing okay? It’s seems to be a little testy around here.
Ruth! We’ve had a little morning fog, which can be usual for fall. But, yesterday it was crystal clear. Had me singing On a clear day, you can see forever. Temps going up again this week. :( But, we are going camping at the beach next week. So, that’s something to look forward to.
Oy, coffee not strong enough.
I’ve left a comment to Mr. Cohen’s opus, which may or may not be approved. I thanked him for his passing reference to obstructionism, and pointed out that if Obama, “The Sun King” as he styled him, loses then après lui le déluge. Most of my comments never see the light of day…
This is good mushroom weather. Of course, other sorts of fungus too, as many elections are proving. sorry, could not resist.
Heh. It happen’s to the best of us! (Try tea and see.)
I recall asking a dear friend, a Holocaust survivor from Poland, why he left Israel for America after living years in Israel. His response was this. “The oppressed have become the oppressors.”
A note to Judge Oded Gershon: A real God would strike you dead.
Spent a lot of time in a dozer….. Yup, they sure move real fast when pushing on a pile of material?
This action was deliberate murder and this Judge is a POS!
luckily we little helpers come skittering along…
Ain’t it the truth. They’re popping up all over the place here. Warm and criminally humid is what they love. Don’t know if they’re the edible kind, so I just toss them. (Loathe ‘shrooms anyway, but Mr. Marion in Savannah has been known to eat them. Not the ones in the lawn, though.)
At NYT it’s my experience they only want ones that acknowledge the writers’ omniscience. Or are really stupid. sometimes, both.
Hey, Peg, your favorite manatee is on tv. Don’t look.

“She was standing on top of a pile of earth,” fellow activist and eyewitness Richard Purssell, from Brighton, said at the time. “The driver cannot have failed to see her. As the blade pushed the pile, the earth rose up. Rachel slid down the pile. It looks as if her foot got caught. The driver didn’t slow down; he just ran over her. Then he reversed the bulldozer back over her again.”
Tom Dale, an 18-year-old from Lichfield in Staffordshire, said: “The bulldozer went towards her very slowly, she was fully in clear view, straight in front of them. Unfortunately she couldn’t keep her grip there and she started to slip down. You could see she was in serious trouble, there was panic in her face as she was turning around. All the activists there were screaming, running towards the bulldozer, trying to get them to stop. But they just kept on going.”
Nice job Judge!
To Romney's credit this has been more or less true since 1992. Except I might add "dismantling the social safety net" to the president's alleged duties, which screws anyone without planetary levels of wealth.
I beg to differ.
He’s a God created by weak old men to keep the population in fear and subjected.
Just as Revelations is the fearful answer to Christ’s message.
Carrot & Stick, and using fear to rule, supported by some all powerful invisible figure of whom you should be very afraid if you don’t do what we tell to to do.
Machiavelli said it well, fear is a universal ruler’s tool. Once you know the game, it is easy to counter, eliminate fear of loss in your own life as did Ghandi.
Rule by Fear of Loss: That’s why the 1% keep attacking the 99%’s living conditions.
Yes, well, Mahgret might be satisfied with that too.
Good to see some people here at FDL able to pull themselves away from horse race long enough to mention this.
Surprise surprise, the IDF cleared by…itself. And it’s put out to the world as “Israel Cleared in Death of Activist.” Disgusting, and a counterpoint is needed.
