FDL’s Book Salon: The Myth of the Muslim Tide: Do Immigrants Threaten the West? “Since September 11, 2001, a growing chorus has warned that Western society and values are at risk of being overrun by a tide of Islamic immigrants. These sentiments reached their most extreme expression in July 2011, with Anders Breivik’s shooting spree in Norway. Breivik left behind a 1500 page manifesto denouncing the impact of Islam on the West, which showed how his thinking had been shaped by anti-immigrant writings that had appeared widely in books and respectable publications. In The Myth of the Muslim Tide, Doug Saunders offers a brave challenge to these ideas, debunking popular misconceptions about Muslims and their effect on the communities in which they live.” Chat with Doug Saunders about his new book, hosted by Siun. 5pm ET.

GO, ISAAC!
I was quite struck by the beauty of the visual imagery of that film,Samsara. At the same time I couldn’t help but think of the contrast between how we are capable of such beauty yet also of such savagery.
Good morning all.
Rs are busy building ark.
Ooo! “Uygur: Did David Koch buy Paul Ryan the VP slot?” That would, of course, be utterly and blatantly illegal, to purchase a VP candidate for campaign contributions.
NAM opened in Tehran.
In your face U.S.
O killed more U.S. troops in Afghanistan than W.
Who coulda guessed.
Good morning ,
But, but we’re winning war profits like never before.
ABC, NBC, BBC all doing coverup specials on Mormonism. Romney is a bishop, btw.
Small price to pay, huh? Better than letting the guys starve to death on U.S. streets, which generates no profits.
Well, maybe some. If they were forced to pay premiums to insurance corps before they starved, then they might have been profitable.
morning all, seems the rain slicker concession will be very profitable this week in Tampa. Obviously, their gods are not happy with wingnutterie.
Good morning, pups. Today we’ve got the Pasty Little Putz, Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Bruni. The Pasty Little Putz has decided to hold forth on what he’s calling “The Democrats’ Abortion Moment.” He drools that Representative Todd Akin’s comments are a gift to liberals, but only if they don’t overreach. If LIBERALS don’t overreach? That’s effing rich… MoDo says it’s “Too Late to Shake That Etch A Sketch,” and that Mitt Romney throws out red meat while refusing to be “a piece of meat.” The Moustache of Wisdom is back [sigh] and in “I Made the Robot Do It” he serves up a piece of pie in the sky and says a coming revolution in innovation and robotics may eliminate bad jobs and create good ones. Gee, Tommy, will those robots pick strawberries or scrub hotel toilets, jobs I’m sure you consider “bad jobs?” Mr. Kristof, in “Big Chem, Big Harm?”, says chemicals in everything from canned food to A.T.M. receipts could affect you, your children and your children’s children. Mr. Bruni, in “Ever Meek, Ever Malleable,” says an unsettling movie and our political culture illuminate our readiness to obey.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got French toast made with challah today. Yesterday and today when I got up it was in the 60s, and yesterday the temperature didn’t reach 90 — the first time in forever. Blessed relief! Have a great day.
Thanks, Marion, something tells me that any mention of women’s health issues is librul extremism, and standing up for my body makes me the tool of the commie maumaus. As usual.
Only males are allowed to talk about rape. After all, they have nothing to do with it, which makes them experts.
Oddly, a lifetime commitment to a living child does not seem to enter into the male version of pregnancy.
The TPP, the next generation of Internet Censorship is being negotiated in secret. Greedy Hollywood producers, who never produced anything creative, other than creative bookkeeping, have an even worse plan than their previous censorship plans.
Everything on the Internet will be monitored. There is no internet privacy. You will be required to pay Hollywood a fee for any “intellectual property”, that you consume. Otherwise you will be waterboarded.
If course not. That leads to absurdities like insurance provided stiffie pills for guys while female contraception “goes against their values”.
“At Home With the Rmoney’s”? Seriously? Guess FOX has dropped all pretense now.
All the networks as I hear will be presenting kinder gentler details about the LDS practices.
The old cliche: Life begins at conception and ends at birth.
Tarpley is doing a Mormon expose; will be available middle of the week, around the time of Romney’s acceptance speech.
BTW, Tarpley argues that Mormons & gambling mob are joined at the hip, aka Harry Reid.
Secrecy is important dogma in Mormonism.
I guess the polling has them worried or something. There was some clown on Daily Kos diary yesterday who was demanding everybody stop making fun of LDS magical undies.
Meanwhile, an NBC affiliate in Utah is refusing to air a new sitcom this Fall because it centers around a same sex couple, saying it’s not appropriate for family viewing or something. The affiliate is owned by, you guessed it, the LDS church. “Law and Order, Special Victims Unit” is okay though, as that only shows rape and murder.
Pffft! Sales of alcohol are entirely banned within the city limits of Lubbock, except for some liquor stores on the outskirts and a few clubs inside the city. Every one of those liquor stores and bars are owned by…. The LDS. Which also has a stranglehold on the City Council, thus protecting their monopolies.
Speaking of FOX, they have been long known as a propaganda organ of the right wing and now they are endangering soldiers by releasing names and addresses of people involved in the raid that killed bin Laden. They need to be stripped of their credentials and reduced to the status of the rest of the tabloids.
63% of Utah is Mormon.
One of Goldman Sucks’ biggest offices is in Salt Lake City.
In run-up to Mitt’s candidacy Mormon hotel Marriott finally removed porn, but just from new hotels

I’m aware. What’s your point?
I was pointing out the hypocrisy involved. In fact, I was pointing out the hypocrisy of the LDS in both comments @ 21 and @ 22.
I’m aware of what you were pointing out.
My point is how crooks are related.
Good morning, everyone. I haven’t watched yesterday’s UP with Chris yet, but it looked really good. Today’s? Not so much. Looks like a whole field of reichwingers. I may skip it. OTOH Chris does a nice job so maybe ok.
Hey Peg, sorry I missed PUAC yesterday. I did read it much later, but too late to join the conversation. I loved some of the jokes though…
Morning. Coffee and; Sophia Nelson is unaware of the massive cuts proposed for, among a whole panoply, food stamps? Sheesh! What do these people prep for? Makeup and attire trump brain matter, yet again. Does she know the polls show a -2.5% among potential black voters at the margins for Repubs? That could be broken down to mean 2-3% of white voters will vote for Obama simply because he’s black! Hilarious! The election tips on the ” white guilt ” vote. Please, Sophia, start thinking outside the box the donkeys and elephants have put you in. And, pay attention to ” who’s zoomin’ who ” in America, 2012. And, have a nice Sunday, firedogs.
How long must the U.S. public endure these insufferable Sunday “news” shows. ABC, CBS, NBC and of course Fox are truly dreadful. It might be revelatory if every Sunday there were protests in front of the studios where these dog and pony shows are broadcast. Some people, far too many, actually still think these shows are informative. Nothing but propaganda and indoctrination.
Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Seriously? Which home?
Certainly no shortage of drooling idiot wingnuts this morning. Marco Rubio, Reince Priebus, and Rep. Marsha Blackburn – a veritable festival of the mental. And (of course) working both sides of the green-room bar, Peggy Nooner. Make that a triple, right Peggy? (No worries, we brought in a few extra cases of the hard stuff just for you.)
(Edit note: Blackburn is R-TN.” And one of the more batshit crazy ones, if I may respectfully submit. And for the record, here’s her bribe list. Looks like the “healthcare industry” has its hooks in pretty deep. Not that she’d ever allow such contributions to influence her voting patterns in any way, mind you.)
