The big news here is : my neighbors opened a grocery store!

These are actual small business people, job creators, blah blah.

He is a civil engineer that runs a consulting business. They have a vineyard and are producing some wine on-site and selling it. She has just this week opened a little grocery in town, and their (adult) kids are going to be running a tiny liquor store there as well.

I ate my first meal from food purchased there. That’s why I’m still up, my digestion is a little off.

Admit it, you drank too much.

I’ve gotten to the point where I just can’t eat normal food. Everything has to be stupidly healthy or it messes me up.

I bought some burger from a local producer, but it must have been 15%+ fat. I drained quite a bit of it off, but you can’t really get it out once it’s cooked in. I also bought a little pre-packaged macaroni salad, which itself is a couple of days worth of fat.

My day was do fab I almost hate to admit it.

so fab, fuckin alcohol.

That’s another thing, I’ve lost all interest in alcohol. I probably have $500 worth of good booze in the basement, and I go months at a time now without a drink.

That’s the hard thing. What can she stock that people will buy instead of driving down to the big city of Cortez?

She’s trying to get local organic produce and eggs, which is good. I can’t really imagine she can compete with Wal-Mart on canned and boxed stuff. She is going to be doing some in-store baking and whatnot.

I had one of her cookies – nasty. She doesn’t understand that a chocolate chip cookie is chocolate chips with just enough cookie to bind them together. It was mostly – cookie. Ewww.

From Pleasant View it’s about 20 miles to Cortez. Dolores has a similar small market, and Dove Creek also has one, each around 15 miles.

my youngest interned last summer at a native womens substance abuse program near cortez and was going to do it again this summer but ended up working at a summer camp in MO.

Well, my new teeth fit so well I have a hard time gettin’ them out. The volunteer job I took with the ACLU at the RNC is a whole 2/10 of a mile from the train station. My husband took some scrap to the scrap yard this morning and my half was $250. All I did was help him put it in the truck last evening. I’m going shopping this weekend. Isaac will miss us.

Hi Suzanne – being a musician for all of these 63 years, I am still learning. I just got an LP collection from a friend and am an listening/digitizing Wagner’s ‘Das Rheingold’ – after Beethoven, Wagner was the great force of 19th century Europe. He is so chromatic but I find him intriguing.

I hate sung German. My sweetie, once an Opera star speaks and sings it fluently.

It still doesn’t do a thing for me.

I have played more classical music than I like to admit, but I am a jazz player by heart. It is an ethnic thing.

A woman told me her nurse mother put an end to what the daughter thought was IBS when the mother commented that daughter only seemed to have symptoms when she had company and maybe the problem was too much fat in those showtime meals. Damn if that wasn’t it. Hasn’t had any further incidents.
