Daryl Hall & John Oates – I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)
What’s on your mind tonite…?
One of my all-time faves too, Daryl… What’s Going On…
Love the music you share, CT. I was so busy raising kids during this time period that I never knew who was singing what….but I sure could sing along. Used to crack my kids up by dancing and singing around the house. When one of these songs comes on now, they say, “How do you know that?” And I laugh joyfully!
Aloha, Dearie…! Always a pleasure to share some great tunes, with great people…! *g*
Plus, I often consider getting a pied-a-terre up in the Santa Ynez Valley so that I could go to the Chumash Casino weekly….. the bands that play there are ‘of my era’….
Wilson-Phillips is up there this week, but I got to hear China Phillips sing their famous song (which just flew outta my head because I was about to type it!) out in her backyard across from the place my daughter rents….. while China and her Baldwin-Boy were doing a fund raiser for Obama four years ago.
The link at 3 goes back to ‘What’s Going On”…… Sara Smile brings back memories even tho I can’t remember it til you fix the link.
Hold On… Was their biggest hit, Dearie…! ;-)
Oops, My bad…! Daryl with Smokey Robinson doing Sara Smile…! ;-)
Yep, and she really belted it out in her backyard…..it was lovely and Billy was so proud. I was sitting on the rock wall at the little cottage complex across the street just grooving! And while I’m really quite non-religious, I got a sense that their Christianity was of the honest and deeply-held kind. Nice, really. A lovely moment.
Hi CT. Any updates on Raub?
Just great! I actually was a child of rock and roll, but I always had music playing while my kids were growing up. I couldn’t win Name That Tune anymore, but I sure could warble a few bars….. and make some appropriate moves :)~
Hi Dearie and CT
We had Bill Monning do a fund raiser running for State Senate. He is a wonderful progressive in so many ways champion of the poor, health care for all, Lawyer, Assemblyman and professional arbitrator. Plus very well liked and if he wins (likely)we will have progressive representation. So nice to have someone to vote for!
Aloha, ww…! Pretty much waiting to see what happens at 10 am tomorrow…!
I did like the fact that shortly after I’d posted my diary, Brandon’s legal defense fund jumped up by over $1k…! I luv’s the Lake…! *g*
That’s terrific, bb! What a pleasure to have someone to actually vote for.
And whatever happened in re your activism about water?
Aloha, bb, we just had our State primary and it was decidedly a ‘mixed bag’ for us, some did get elected, but, just as many were ousted…! 8-(
http://www.billmonning.org has lots of good stuff on his site and supporters too. A perfect model for FDL candidates, Likes peace, universal health care, anti poverty. And long ago started the Independent progressive Party.
One on One…
hey, the guy we were appalled at last night— not the guy, but the way he was-is being treated
evening, CT – firegods
And I may be the last adult in America willing to admit that I loved Disco! But I did and I do, and I ain’t backing down.
Big conservative corporate bucks in the mix?
Aloha, BFL, that be the very same individual…! 8-(
The US Chamber of Commerce thinks it smells chum in the water with a Linda Lingle/Mazie Hirono matchup for Akaka’s Senate seat…! 8-(
You all have heard, I trust, that the new take on doing CPR is that you can skip the breaths, but you need to do the pumping on the chest to “Staying Alive” — that’s what keeps the blood flowing. Don’t tell me that Disco isn’t important!
Bubble, bubble, toil & trouble.
Had a lovely day. Weather spectacular, afternoon concert at Bard with friends, late afternoon meal. Back at house around 6p., read some, bed at 10p, had to wake myself up at 11:30p owing to worst nightmare ever. Floods & fires on house at same time.
To reorient my emotions, have spent the last 2 hours emailing a couple of friends on other topics.
Think I’m getting straightened out.
Having had to go for biannual re-certifications for the past 20+ yrs, it did take me by surprise, M’dear…! ;-)
Can a (relative) noob weigh in on the Disco matter? I dig it, especially the more exotic stuff.
Deep breaths. And glad you checked in. I recently heard (on NPR) that sleep is actually done in 2 stages…. a break in between and then some good sleep with better dreams. Hope you have better dreams in phase 2.
Floods & fires on house at same time.
Ooh, that totally bites, eCAHN…! I hope a dip in the warm lake waters do cure what ails ya…! *g*
nice to see you today!
howdy to all!
what she said :)
Aloha, Jon73…! Play That Funky Music…
Bard is an amazing place. In addition to their summer music concerts centered on a particular composer, Saint-Saens this summer, Bard also has programs all over the world including West Bank.
With a prez named Botstein (btw college classmate of HS classmate of mine), that seems like astounding thing for Botstein to do.
Aloha, k-pop…! Always a pleasure to see ya too…! ;-)
Having a couple of brandies, which should cure all that. When I woke myself up, I was already aware of the influences of awful nightmares. Raises the issue of stages of consciousness and how aware we are of them.
Part of my intellectualization of emotionalism. Some would call me out on that!
I just googled Botstein, and he is fascinating. I feel like I’ve seen him on the TV saying purposeful things……will do some more research. And, yes, Bard is so interesting.
What a great combo, Daryl Hall w/Train… Papa Was a Rolling Stone…
Ha! I recently started sleeping in one of my guestrooms because it is so dark. I sleep so much better than in my own room where lights just kind of filter in. And I found myself waking up in mid=sleep and then just lolling and then sinking into amazing deep sleep. So I was fascinated by the NPR piece about ‘natural sleep patterns.’ I’ve always been an ‘active’ dreamer, and often in color, and often with flying and such, so I’m really enjoying the deep sleep. Fun!
U.S. Chamber of Whorers has their bag men and women on the payroll. Abel Maldonado running against Lois Capps is opposite of Bill Monning.
When we first had the house in the Hudson valley, 32 years ago, Bard had more acres than students (1000a/800s). Spectacular site on east side of Hudson with views of Catskills on other side.
Today, reading the program, I find that Bard had expanded beyond my wildest imagination. Another HS classmate son went to Bard undergrad and is now teaching there. I did not reach out to him before concert, owing to sense that some compartmentalisation is important.
Wishing I had made the contact. Bard is so much more important than I had imagined. Will do so next time.
evening, eCAHN – troubling dreams?
Hey CT. That’s great getting a boost to the defense fund.
I couldn’t believe those plain-clothes types, whoever they were, acting like they were in complete control without showing badges and/or identifying themselves. That was the creepiest part.
The uniformed cops were doing what they were supposed to do, but they did not look to be in charge.
Bard is doing awesome stuff. IIRC, Stephanie Kelton and Scott Fullwiler are both full time there. Right?
So happy for the political asylum. Jean Genet wrote “The Balcony” 1957. Shows four main institutions in Western Society, the general, The Judge, The priest and the politician and show what the take in return for their corruption.
I draw a parallel to the balcony speech by Assage that protests the suppession with a backdrop of alleged sexual actions. As Genet was raised in a whorehouse for a time. He mocks the institutions of suppression.
Not sure if Botstein has ever said purposeful things. My HS classmate, who didn’t know him well at U.Chic., said he has no shortage of ego. WANS (we are not surprised).
My POV is outcomes. Being aware of ego issues, I often dismiss them if I can figure out the pluses/minuses.
Other than today’s program, the first I’ve seen in decades, it seems as though Botstein’s prodigious ego has been much for the good of humans.
Reserving right to change my mind if/when contrary evidence emerges.
They weren’t in charge…! What was completely new was the Secret Service involvement, Brandon made no specific threats to Obummer, nor any other viable Politicos, for that matter…! I can understand the FBI and the JTTF involvement, considering he was a former Sapper, like Timothy McVeigh(and moi)…! 8-(
More than troubling. Phenomenally disturbing. But getting over it.
I googled and found him on Charlie Rose (talk about egos!) and I remember that I found him to be quite interesting…. of course I am not surrounded by intellectuals, so I do enjoy some intellectualism … even if on TV, and even if I have to tolerate Charlie Rose!
I don’t know. Link to website to find out.
Since I’ve been living in country, life has revolved around non-high-cultural stuff.
Within last 2-3 years I have gradually enticed my new friends into local “high culture”.
One of the little known aspects of mid-Hudson.
Going to full court press on organ concerts at West Point, largest organ in U.S. (google it and don’t double entendre me, plz)
Years ago, I had a student who did that shit for the IDF. He had stories about how he and his guys would find booby traps, e.g., can of beans rigged to explode and would re-rig them to blow up when folks from the other side would come back to check out what went wrong. I said that I thought that was pretty damn cold. He said, “No. They do that to us too. We know who they are, and they know who we are. That’s what makes it so much fun.” At that point, I shut up.
…and don’t double entendre me, plz…
Cut me off at the knees, eh…? ;-)
Botstein might be one of the few intellectual jerks I maintain respect for. We’ll see.
Trying to figure out in general when to give creds to superior humans of prodicious talents and when to dismiss them.
Today’s concert sez I should bow at Botstein’s knees. Think I’ll wait awhile before that slavishness LOL
Let’s hop on the Love Train…!
Pic of console.
So, like, how many different notes does this guy need?
Out of Touch…
Just bc I love the “organ” and will not brook any double entendre about it means that I know anything about it.
Have not been to an organ concert at West Point, but pressing to go with friends this autumn.
you saw that too? far out dude!
No worries, eCAHN – Hope West Point’s organ wasn’t chasing you like in a Woody Allen movie.
Btw, The perfect solution to what Naomi Wolf was warning us about those facial recognition cams… Silly String…
Well, before I dig my grave any deeper, I shall bid ya’ll another fond adieu…! Mahalo, for the great company tonite…!
You Make My Dreams Come True…
Aloha Oe…! *g*
night CT – be well
