Link Hogthrob and Gonzo as leaders of rival gangs (Pigs and Chickens respectively) — Macho Man, from episode 405 of The Muppet Show.
What’s on your mind?
*cannonball* it’s finally cooling off and is down in the 70′s – woohoo
I’m go gonzo over Gonzo…! ;-)
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
The Bulgarian is not amused…! ;-)
Hi Kids. Gorgeous day in the ‘nard. Lovin’ it. A perfect ‘down day’ with nothing particular that needed to be done. Easy.
A gorgeous pink sky above the mtns, as the Sun sets behind ‘em…!
fork that blasted bulgarian cousin of yours tut — he’s just pissed he didn’t see his comrades on the podium in the diving competition and he’s just doing his sour grapes thing
i swear, i had no idea he had florescent lime green boxers on under those white slacks…. no idea at all
hey dearie — sounds to me like ya did nothing magnificently :) whatcha doing this weekend?
Hippo Birdie’s to Hawai’i…! ;-)
woohoo — does this mean there is gonna be cake??? and ice cream???
Man, fifty years already? Just another thing to make me feel old ’cause I remember it happening.
Nah, Happy birthday, Hawaii!
hey tejan — how ya doing tonight?
i love hawaii-probably love it more if i knew anything about it; but i think we need a new state; it’s just been too long since we had a new state, in my view– it’s the exceptionalismist thing to do; we can’t stand still in 1958
TJ, what it do, man
hey bfl — how’s the city beautiful tonight?
yeah, the longest we’ve ever gone with the same number of states is——- c’mon, help me out here; i have no idea but it’s an interesting factoid (i think, anyway)
50 years i think dood….. puerto rico should be a state
same; was watching a youtube of Barbara West-our local intrepid reporter-interviewing Joe Biden last year– what a putz
I wish…! Prolly won’t even get lei’d…!
Great clip, Suze. Is there anything funnier than dancing, be-wigged chicken Muppets?
and…sigh…the tune was already filling my head before I even clicked on the video. I’m doomed for the rest of the night.
is this the longest we’ve ever gone between admissions of a new state
i’d like to see nova scotia or newfoundland
*snort*
at least it wasn’t Hanky Panky– i had that in my head for almost 2 weeks
I’m good, Suze.Dozing off, naturally. How are you? Still walking regularly?
Beautiful dive, btw. You know, watching some of the Olympic diving, I couldn’t help thinking of you and your perfect, splashless dives. Heh.
you probably would never say that to a Hawaian
sorry about the ear worm — i could not resist the whole pigs v chickens thang and that those manly pigs flew the white flag after getting pelted with laundry…
Aloha, tj and BFL…! Is there even room on the flag to hold another star…? ;-)
we were still admitting states into the union into the early 20th century — arizona was 1912 and hawaii and alaska were admitted in 59 …
Gots to stumble off to bed, I fear. Have to disturb the kitteh wedged in next to me on the recliner; he’s been downright clingy since I started working again. He’ll likely come with me to the bed for some head skritching before we fall asleep.
Are you and Token just like ya useta be?
Do you suppose AZ was a mistake? (ducking…)
pretty much so — he’s starting to get territorial about the place — has found his ‘spots’ to save trees and pretty much sticks close to my side the rest of the time
LOL… my mom and sister who live there would not say so but….
i’d like to see nova scotia or newfoundland
Hell’s no…! First, Nova Scotians barely tolerate Americans as it is, and then, do you really want a bunch of ‘Newfies’ running around in DC…? ;-)
I’ll see your Macho Man and raise ya.

One day I’m going to learn to play the guitar part of this song.
we can let 2 shitty states share one; like—— better not say; we have people at FDL from so many places, i’d be bound to insult someone and I’ve NEVER done that
Does anybody know if Jane Hamsher still posts here?
hey vmt — how ya doing tonight? don’t make me go all gloria on ya dood
plus, there’s the language barrier; maybe British Columbia and then we connect Alaska with the rest of the country (except Hawaii)
I seem to recall wondering the same thing in 1959….doubtless, read a scholarly article on the subject in My Weekly Reader…
yup — she had a post up just a few days ago
Hi Suzannne. I’m doing well. Hope you are too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUdaMlOxi74
Ah ha, I missed that. Thanks.
get into the groove :)
now, jane said “Olympic atheletes and weed, write your own joke”– now my kids call it “weed”; does everyone say that{quest} i still say ‘pot”-am i wrong; i don’t want to be wrong, then again I don’t want to talk like my kids except to say “what it do”
Not many french speakers in Nova Scotia, not since my ancestors chased ‘em all to Lousy-anna, way back when…! Just like how my ‘loyalist’ forbears were chased outta the Hudson Valley…!
i think it has as many names as imelda marcos had shoes…
I think this may be the grooviest song of all time. Clocking in at 9:05 minutes of bliss.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crIrhIUHSNk
groove thang
‘Weed’ is the lingua franca here in the Isles, BFL…! ;-)
good i’ll stick with pot and use weed whenever it’s just feels natural to do so; i hear it quite a bit; thanks, Suze!
i use weed, pot, herb or medical marijuana depending on the conversation… tis all a matter of who i’m talking to
high
i was thinking about how they speak Canadian, can’t understand ‘em
Once again,I’m so old I still think of it as “grass.” Sigh.
Roaming among the nostalgic ancient music youtubes…
The other day some store I was in was playing Muzak from the sixties..actually seemed to be chronological..late fifties to early sixties when I left. Waited through “96 Tears,” and then I had to go.
And…I’d best go now, too. so much for going to bed early on the weekends, too. Again. Nice hangin’out with y’all.
Blow dumb.

Sweet dreams, tj…!
Nice dive, Suz, and good tunes. See ya later, tejana.
hey bg — how’s nm tonight?
We had rain tonight, yesterday a real deluge. I did not have a schedule today and finally got a bit of rest, feel like I should have done more work, but I needed a day off.
great tunes! so this is what i miss when i fall asleep during the week
yay! a day off! dearie took a day today as did i
thanks dood — tis good to have the soundtrack back at lln
take a chance
Hey, Suz, is there a chance you could cover lln, next month on the 17th…! After GA last nite, I checked the calendar and only one event is conflicting with hosting, it’s the Anniversary of Occupy Wall Street and we’re planning a late nite with our new Overhead Light Brigade signage…!
remind me when it gets closer — i have no idea what i’m going to be doing in sept. i’m sure i’ll be able to but don’t know if i’ll remember so shoot me off an email a week or so ahead a’time
Can do, Suz…! Just wanted to give ya a heads up…! ;-)

This business of left-handed Chavis Carter shooting himself in the right temple in the back seat of a police car while handcuffed, reminded me of something that I heard out of Texas or Oklahoma on my long-range radio when I was a kid in 1961. It was a report of someone committing suicide by shooting himself in the back five times with a single-shot bolt-action rifle. In those days, I was on a rifle team that shot single-shot bolt-action rifles, and the thought of someone committing suicide this way was unbelievably ludicrous.
So tonight I googled and found this astonishing conspiracy theory. I love conspiracy theories, because we all know that the world is full of conspiracies. So some significant fraction of them are true. The only question is how to tell which significant fraction.
What amazes me is how little you have to dig on the Internet to suddenly feel that y.ou’ve fallen down a rabbit hole. I had a similar experience a few years ago, while that Russian guy slowly died from polonium poisioning in London, because it so much reminded me of the mysterious 1986 death of Cyrus Hashemi also in London.
I guarantee you that if you follow the google trail of that one it’ll take you down a rabbit hole that is comparable to the best spy thriller you’ve ever read. But it never gets resolves in the end.
satis-faction
hey wigwam — how’s the inland empire tonight? i saw some coverage of that — something smells for sure
that russian guy story — that was what brought dr hillhouse to fdl — remember her and trex’s posts on it?
I still wonder about the death of Paul Wellstone.
“Oops, I did it again” . . . one of the all time greats.
baby
Today high was 102, but it’s still 83, which is somewhat unusual for this area. Usually, even on the hottest days, it gets down to the mid 70s by midnight.
I didn’t remember that R.J. Hillhouse was into that story, but the Cyrus Hashemi story is even more sensational.
i am for the first time in several days currently in the 70′s *huge sigh of relief*
this may help jar your memory
She did it so much better.

Same for Yasser Arafat, ww…! 8-(
bo
actually marcy is a better response

Hi Suzanne. I had not seen that one. I note that it was repeatedly mentioned that he had recently returned from Israel. It turns out the Cyrus Hashemi was involved with Israelis who were selling weapons to Iran in that era, as part of the Iran/Contra action. He had also been implicated in the 1980 October surprise, where the Ayatollahs broke off negotiations with the Carter administration and released their prisoners on the day of Reagan’s inauguration.
midnight, getting uptight
if ya check the archives, he wrote a whole buncha posts on the subject and dr hillhouse often appears in the comments
Hey Suzanne, that “Grinding the Crack” video last night was stunning. I’ve done that sort of thing with a paraglider that flew at roughly 20 mph. That dude was cruising along somewhere in excess of 120 mph and was coming damn close to sure death.
BTW, I really miss some of the oldtimers, e.g., Trex and Ian Welch.

glad ya liked it wigwam… the link in his name goes to his website which has a link to his blog in the header. he is back to jumping after a nasty accident where he hit table mt when doing a similar flyby… did a number on his shin for sure
me too :(
toot toot hey beep beep
99 is rapidly approaching, Suz…!
time for token to save a tree — i’m getting his version of the look
thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight – hope to see ya tomorrow for ‘toons
g’nite all
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
One year earlier.

I’ve been enjoying the garden bounty, not just mine, but a few others who have donated fresh food my way from their gardens. My peaches are starting to come in, pretty much finished with grapes, and the tomatoes are hitting a nice stride in the last week.
Nighters, Suz, ya missed the lucky 99, congrats to CT!
Cool. It’s nice to hear that the drought hasn’t hurt all the crops.
Without daily watering from the hose, we would have nothing here, for sure. It has been dry. I’m sure the deluge we had yesterday did not move the needle on the drought.
Ah, well I’m hoping we get some rain.
I hope you get some too!
Thanks, let’s hope things change.
We tried to go to a movie tonight. The ticket taker insisted that my wife open and show her purse. She refused, and immediately two well-mannerd young dudes showed up, both wearing uniforms and wearing not one but two guns on their hips. Reluctantly, she showed the innards of her purse but halfway to the theater door went ballistic: “I will not put up with this!” and demanded our money back. We came home, opened a bottle of wine, and watched Netflix over Roku. Sigh.
That was awesome. I’m sorry to hear that he got hurt. But, at the speeds he goes, it’s a wonder that he had any nonfatal encounter with a mountain.
That’s outrageous. I would have left too. I refuse to live in a police state because I know human beings are better.
Apparently, this shit is all in response to the events in Aurora CO. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to simply restrict access to such weapons? Duh!
Good morning, pups. Today we have Blow, Nocera and Collins. In “Dark Road to the White House” Mr. Blow says if the repulsive strategy Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are using doesn’t motivate some voters who had been considering sitting out this election, nothing will. Mr. Nocera, in “Ever Hear the One About…”, says so much for a sleepy summer. We’ve got bank scandals, college football scandals, a sinking Facebook stock and more. Ms. Collins, the poor soul, has been looking at Mittens and ZEGS. In “Political Page Turners” she says Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are NOT the same person! Yes, yes, yes. She’s heard all the rumors, too. But she helps us get a few things straight.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got banana pancakes for breakfast. I’m off to make up a batch of teriyaki sauce to marinate some London broil. I want to eat that this evening, so I’d better shimmy off to the kitchen now or the sauce won’t cool enough to get the marination done in time. Have a great day.
