‘smy bday, so laundry and sending the workers back with the rock, because that was not the rock we wanted for our bathroom counter. It’s a goddamn pink marble, ferchrissake. We wanted the fish fossil stone. Geez, louise.
There is a DELL McAfee green ad running through every comment on my page of comments. I can’t read any of them and there is no visible place to xclose. Help?
hey ce — are you running firefox? if so you can install the adblocker plus addon and that will zap any ads you have. have ya tried clearing your cache? how’s cleveland tonight?
i keep stuff in my stash that i can’t use now but will use later…. my stash has gotten way bigger than i envisioned — and i’ve gone through and purged it yearly.
Hey Suzanne,
I’m on Safari, and the ads are gone, but man that was weird! It is so late, but MrCE and I are headed east to visit with parents this morning. We will be seeing my Dad, and MrCE off to see his parents, now 91 and 87. My Dad is 89 and still very much with it in every way. MrCE, not so lucky. I’ll be taking my new iPad and will stay in touch if there is wifi in the old folks home.
Delicious weather here, sunny, breezy, and greening up again after last week’s rains. Summer at its best. The deck building continues with deck posts for railing. I’m hoping that lots will be finished when we return.
Soon — leaving Sept 1st. I’m reading guidebooks like crazy. MrCE has COMMANDED a list of places I want to visit. Me, just lead me to see art and feed me on a regular basis.
Good choice of song for me! I’m an early Tom Waits fan. I love his music from this period.
I was washing gorgeous little gherkin cukes to pickle by the music of early Indigo Girls. That music works ,too.
I figured out my vinegar dilemma. Distilled White vinegar; a petroleum off-shoot product V.S. Another choice.
I’m going for high grade apple cider vinegar and knowing MY pickles color will defy cultural acceptance of pickle color. I’m kind of scared what the books actually mean by “discolored”. It’s going to take 15 pounds of beautiful gherkin cukes [$30], $10 worth of vinegar and at least 10 weeks to find out.
I’m ready to make a giant step backward! Let’s do this.
Kicked my sleep clock a bit out of kilter, here for a few minutes. NASA gets all the way to Mars and the MIIC can’t even light the fuse on their X-51A WaveRider. It successfully detached from the B-52 or shorter, we dropped it. Sheesh, that toy would feed and house a few people.
Keeping an artist or two employed with the graphics of how it is supposed to fly anyway.
We’ve been just north of the drought-line all summer.
my mom was in palm desert and i used to go down that way to visit when i was in the bay area. now i’m in oregon and she’s in az so its too far to drive in one day.
Twenty-two lbs lighter than the last time you saw me and feeling fitter. Pickling some string beans today, doing a bit of paying work, though could stand something more in that department.
Yes it is and the driving thing just isn’t important to her at the moment. I need to persuade her to give it a try, she’ll need to be using it and that license is also her photo ID for future employment, human rights and voting and all. Not certain if we are required to have it with us yet, simply when out walking or jogging.
I missed a week or so reading here, are you doing OK?
Yeah, that’s Waits. We used to use his Closing Time album as a signal that the bar was closing. Maybe that’s why I’m so fond of it.
He’s incredible in concert.
i’m hanging in… over did with my leg when dana and i went up to mt st helens a week ago sunday but it was totally worth it :) took about a week before i was able to ease off the vicodin again. now its back to its usual cranky self. i have pt tomorrow and i’m sure that whole ‘being nice’ bit last week was just a fluke due to my overdoing. i doubt i’ll get a repeat *laughing*
I recommended your diary. I understood we get the Federal Reserve out of the issuing of notes and save a lot of interest by printing US Gov Notes and not borrowing from private banks every time we need to spend money?
I’d love to listen but my partner just took over the sound system with John Hiatt and Little Village. We’re definitely on “working the night shift” now.
Cukes to scrub, garlic to wash, water’s on and the jars are waiting. Rockin’ with “Train Wreck”.
Good night and may cider vinegar be a good thing in the magic of pickles.
i’m reading barofsky’s book (upcoming book salon – scroll down to sept) and i’m about ready to storm the castle and demand the treasury dept be rebuilt from the top down….
Nice-real nice. Best end of summer weather i have seen in years. And the tourists are leaving! I guess alot dont know the norm is wet and grey.
Time to go wild mushroom gathering.
Thanks for the tip on the salon. Just bought ($1.50 thrift shop) Wisconsin Country CookBook, c.1956 reprint I have is 1980. Iced cucumber soup with sour cream, Cold Sorrel Soup for your hot weather. Maple Dumplings, (boiled in the nearly finished maple syrup as one is cooking down the sap. Goldenrod Eggs, Church style macaroni, lots of stuff to try here.
Been dealing with the garden harvest and this was a great find yesterday. Yes that was pickling green beans, and not picking beans above. Yum, yum.
my former downstairs neighbor at the coast house gave me some pickled red onions last summer… so forking yummy and gave me a whole new appreciation for pickles that are not pickles
Thanks, good thing these weapons are being developed to protect us from some fervent fools in a rubber raft or a stray tanker colliding with a warship and conceivably slowing things down considerably.
I recommended your diary. I understood we get the Federal Reserve out of the issuing of notes and save a lot of interest by printing US Gov Notes and not borrowing from private banks every time we need to spend money?
Thanks.
A couple of years ago, two FDL contributors, beowulf and letsgetitdone, came up with a scheme for doing the equivalent under existing law. Instead of the Treasury issuing printed money, which is reserved to the Fed under existing law, the Treasury can mint arbitrarily large coins under Title 31 Sec 5112 Item k. They can be deposited in the Fed account from which the government’s bills are paid and then spent into circulation. No more need to borrow from banks, and no more need to get Republican permission, beyond appropriation. It’s beautiful.
Those are great I agree. Onions, garlic, pea pods, relishes, all veggies and fixings readily available here. My second planting of potatoes are coming up and about October I’ll have a second digging.
Too bad, sort of. Scramjets are cool technology. But, then, so are drones.
Drones don’t kill people; killer presidents and their henchmen kill people.
IIUC, scramjets would make very fast suborbital delivery systems much less expensive, but I doubt I’d like what presidents, here or elsewhere, would want them to deliver. Still, scramjets are cool technology. Sigh!
I’m going to keep on pimping that idea as we approach our next round of debt-limit roulette and the GOP Tea Party folks hold the U.S. credit rating hostage to their agenda of impoverishing the middle class.
Right, that cheers me up (not as much as below though). ;-)
I almost forgot one recipe, larger cucumbers were a dime apiece at Saturday’s farmer market. I sauteed some sliced cucs in a bit of butter, sprinkle of salt and a light and quick sprinkle of nutmeg. Had the cast iron hot enough to sear the surface golden brown. Later.
He was just doing what everyone was saying after Aurora, “If only someone had a gun in the theater they could have stopped Holms!” Here we have “that guy” and he not only wouldn’t be able to save the crowd, he can’t save himself.
Keep this example handy.
I am in agreement. I just dont think anything will work with the people that now are in office. And my view is such that any vocal point i make would reflect badly on FDL and LLN to boot. I mean who would risk screwing up the best late nite tunes ever.
Go for it, bro…! Cite your sources, and let fly…! Bill McKibben amongst numerous others have stated that it’s ‘Game Over’ if we don’t halt the massive meltdown of the Arctic permafrost…! The sheer amount of methane that will be released will be irreversible…! 8-(

Just watching Waits, though I know he’s actually pretty sober, makes me talk drunk, even though I’m too sober too.

Hey Tut,

Did that happen today?

Thanks Suz and good night, Aunt Ida’s Egg Pancakes are getting a test for a mid-morning brunch later today.
Peace and joy, It was a pleasure chatting, people. My tea is gone and my lids are getting heavy.
*heh* You’re such the pessimist, nq, what could possibly go wrong with 3 Carrier Groups, vigilantly standing guard in the Persian Gulf…? ;-)
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
night, Suzzzz — hiya CT, firegods
As you pointed out, there’s a guy named Van Riper who should be asked that question.
I–yyyy will just say nothing.
Aloha, PPD…!

Here is the GOP’s one-line attack:
And they’ve caught Team Obama flat-footed, who have yet to come back with an equally snappy response.

Agreed!
No doubt, spocko…! Totally incompetent douche bags blow their f*cking balls off…! Maybe, it is evolution’s selective processes in action, eh…?
whether wise, life inside the Matrix comes down to … choice.
It’s now my time. G’nite all.
Pleasant dreams, wigwam…!
ding ding ding you got the lucky 99. Be well.
As the creator of the lucky 99, I’ll take it as a compliment.
night all – be well
