g’evening pups
Hi, Suzanne. Nice to be back at the lake after a quick trip to Montana. I always enjoy your dives.
hey dearie — i’m way way outta practice (as ya can tell). how long were you in montana this time?
Quick trip….. Tuesday through Friday. Just enough. 5 kids is a lot to deal with, so we kept it short. Everyone wanted more….and that’s the perfect way to leave it!
Got home and found that we are finally having summer! Had to turn on the air conditioner to cool off the house.
poifect! always leave them wanting more
a wise friend once told me that house guests, like garbage, needs to be put out after 3 days. it really is true for both sides. short and sweet is the way to go
how hot did it get?
i’ve had that i’m bringing home a ba-by bum-ble bee song stuck in my head all day
Temps in the 90s in Montana. That was a surprise! 80s when I got back home to my coast. My house was in high 70s…. and it really needed a cool-down before I could get some sleep. I remember that when I put air conditioning in, people were surprised (and also, I think, a bit wishing they’d thought of it)…. near the beach, it usually cools down at night, but ‘usually’ isn’t good enough when the temperature takes forever to drop and sleeping is almost impossible. I don’t use the A/C much, but I’m so glad to have it when I need it.
i got up to 86.1 today and its currently 77 outside — the heat really builds during the day and doesn’t hit peak until 5ish… the cool down is way slow compared to when i was at the coast.
this winter i’m gonna be keeping an eye out for a small room a/c unit for those really hot days.
Hey Suzanne!
Nice dive! I did enjoy watching the diving at the Olympics, though I never did find out who won gold. I spent most of the afternoon at a bridal shower, eating way, way too much. One of MsCE’s oldest friends will be married in October. The temperature dropped into the 60′s by evening, so I roasted a chicken for MrCE. Seems like an age since I did this!
hey ce — thanks. i’m watching it tape delayed now. i roasted chicken in a bag tonight — first time in a very long time.
what’s on your must see list for your trip to germany?
Honestly, I’m a whore for Dutch and Flemish painting of the 17th century (while in Europe). I want to eat in beer gardens, see art, and museums about the city. I’m nervous because I don’t read or speak German, but we have great friends in Berlin where I’m sure my lack of German won’t matter.
are ya gonna be picking up any salt?
Well I’m certain to be shopping in grocery stores. I’ve never heard of any German salt, BUT, they might have super prices on French sea salt. And other spices. I do love grocery and hardware stores. Perhaps I might find some really wonderful kitchen tools — Germans make wonderful tools.
My favorite Beaky Buzzard.

ya would think that they would have access to all sortsa salts — the salt trade goes back for eons
I’ve never visited Munich or Berlin, so it will all be new. MrCE is making me read guide books this weekend, and it is overwhelming with so much to see. Since we will be a party of 4, I just want my vote to be : see what you want — can we meet for dinner?
hey cmauk — bugs bunny gets the boid was the first beaky cartoon and tonight’s was the second. iirc, i featured boid up top a couple years ago. i’ve always liked beaky and wish he had been featured in more than just 5 toons
how ya doing tonight?
all new is always so much fun. both are huge cities with lotsa history and will offer as much (or as little) as you want.
My roast chicken: Brine in a room temperature salt solution for 30 minutes — this brings the temperature of the bird up to almost one which most chefs say is right to roast. Chop onions, red pepper and garlic and heap in the center of a large oven-ready pan. Dry chicken with a million paper towels, stuff with lemon slices and garlic cloves, and center on top of veg in pan. Season with lots of freshly ground salt and pepper. Roast at 450 Degrees F for one hour. Rest, tented with fold for 30 minutes. Carve, make pan sauce and eat.
yum! it can take that high heat? i usually roast at 350
the 3rd beaky — the lion’s busy with mel blanc doing beaky’s voice. kent rogers (the original voice) died in ww2
New lesson from tv show : the French Laundry chef said there are three things to know about roasting a chicken.
1.High heat at about 4:50 degrees, for one hour,
2. Lots of black pepper and salt on top.
3.RESTING with tented foil, for at least 30 minutes.
i’ll keep that in mind next time i roast a chicken.. thanks ce
Goodnight Suzanne and all pups — hope to wake up early enough to join the fun. Suzanne, I found out the hard way that “resting” the roasted bird is more important than anything else. Some chefs say that one should rest the bird as long as it roasted before carving. We did this with the Thanksgiving turkey, and is was delicious!
Bon nuit!
Chris
thanks and bon nuit ce
Aloha Suz and lln pups…! I’m stoked the first print-out has bluedog Ed Case losing big time to Mazie Hirono…! 58% – 41% ;-)
aloha tut — is it primary day in paradise?
You betcha, Suz…!
do ya think mazie has a chance of beating case?
I’m sure she’ll win, next up the general showdown with Linda Lingle…!
how do ya think that will play out?
I’m hoping Mazie will step up her game from her lackluster primary campaign, the US Chamber of Commerce has been investing heavily in Lingle ads…! If she does step it up, she should win it…!
Interestingly, of our 4 federal seats, 3 of them will be women, Sen. Inouye will be the only male…!
kinda like how the women have dominated in gold medals at the o’s
YAY — Suzanne is diving again!!
just told someone, my conservative catholic friends sure spooged themselves today
*heh* You can thank Patsy Mink for spearheading the Title IX…! ;-)
Yes!!!!! is this because we finally won a gold in diving
U-S-A!!! U-S-A!!!!
teddy! i’ve been diving on sat nites for several weeks now… how’s pdx tonight?
hey bfl — how’s the city beautiful tonight?
did i give something away to you left coasters
Suzanne — Our building has units called Roam-Aire that have wheels. They sit on the floor and a hose out the back end goes to the window, which you leave open for the hose, with foam around the open rest of the window. They work really well the few times we find we need to use them. I recommend looking for one, since we don’t really need window A/C, and once you put a window A/C in the window you can’t use that window anymore for fresh air. This way, I just pull the foam and the hose outta the window. They do collect water in a little tray, like a dehumidifier, which needs emptying down low, awkwardly, on the unit, but I have a low-to-the-ground Badger for that task.
Check them out.
well, we lost dwight Howard to the big city so The City Beautiful is feeling very unloved tonight
no spoiler on the west coast but not sure about hawaii and alaska…
i’ll keep my eye out teddy — thanks. that sounds like a good solution — i don’t want a window unit — they are too forking ughly
That is very exciting, Ed Case would fit in too well with the current Senate.
Cooling off tonight. Isn’t it weird getting used to the temperature just going up up up all day until about 7pm here, Suzanne? I’m used to that fog or at least marine layer cooling things down midafternoon on hot days.
Tomorrow much hotter, we’re gonna try to get up and go to the rose garden, high up in Washington Park, before it gets too hot down here in Goose Hollow.
Then come home and turn on the A/C.
Ironically, I would wonder how Linda Lingle would be accepted by the knuckle draggers on the GOP side of the aisle…!
i’m still adjusting to that hot late in teh day — didn’t have that on the coast — it hit 4pm and ya could feel the temps drop
i’m gonna do some minor grocery shopping first thing and then come home and make sure i have all 3 fans going.
thursday is supposed to be 95ish
tis about time for me to head out pups. thanks so very much for letting me hang out with ya this week. i’m looking forward to seeing what tut has up his sleeve sun and mon. hope to see ya there
g’nite all
The second printout has Mazie increasing her lead…!
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Oh, CT, I was just coming in here to post some election results as well. Looks like maybe you’ve got it covered, but in case not . . .
Good news from here in Hawaii, in that Tulsi Gabbard, a fresh new face & combat vet, beat tired old politico Mufi Hanneman.
And on the Senate side, Mazie Hirono beat Faux Dem Ed Case, and will now run against The Terrible Lingle.
Only disappointment is that cretin Cayatano, who’s against the much-needed rail system for Oahu, is leading the two pro-rail candidates, but since he didn’t get 50% + 1, he’ll have to compete against the pro-rail candidate who got the most votes. [Caldwell.] Hawaii is Neanderthal about change.
Thanks. Almost all good news, then?
Yes, Teddy.
The combined vote total of the two pro-rail candidates is greater than Cayatano’s, so if we can just get folks to VOTE in November, they can defeat this scumbag.
Tulsi won the Dem nomination for the House [US] seat that Mazie Hirono is vacating to run for Akaka’s Senate seat. If the Dems have an ounce of sense, they’ll feature her at the convention. She is attractive, articulate and a vet. Really gives hope to Dems who, here in Hawaii, are predominately good ole’ boys, get-along/go-along reward-your-friends cretins. I should say, gives hope to Dem VOTERS, who are tired of the traditional, do-nothing Dems here.
