Mornin’, pups
presstv doing good special on African migration to Europe via Libya.
Good morning, SD and eCAHN and pupses and lurkers.
SD, do you know any more details about The Guardian?
Thanks, SD. Keeping the Euro afloat is not going to happen until the financial community gives up on austerity, which has proven to be a hoax when used to shore up the Euro. Like any bankster, the PTB are insisting all losses have to be taken by the individual/consumer/worker, all profits kept by the institutions. Not working.
All I know is that the Guardian will have a US edition later this year.
Wonder what the chances are that we see a worldwide uprising against the parasites who have squirreled away that cool 3Trillion.
That is so damn cool. It’ll be like Radio Free Europe.
Edit, except was that a lot of propaganda, too?
Actually, I see more of a walkover – as in order to remain functional the governments finance their necessary activities without them. ‘Nationalize’ isn’t a four letter word.
(waving from the lurky spot in the big round booth)
Good morning all and thanks for the post and host SoDrag.
Pretty much.
Actually RFE was one of the the better ones and their directors did quite often get in trouble with the USIA for their reporting.
I believe a good part of their finances came from private donations.
Hi over there. You guys comfy? Bet you are doing the NYT crossword.
Good morning everyone.
Thank you for the post SouthernDragon
1) Whatever it takes…except issue Eurobonds or back off austerity in favor of growth. Unimpressed.
2) I’ll bet wallyworld has perfectly legit reasons to dismiss those employees, since they probably had a team watching and documenting each employee to get that legit reason.
3) What the hell does ObamaLLP have on Sweden that they would be such a perfect lapdog? Show me one other case where sweden has gone to so much trouble over a minor violation.
4) One mans terrrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
5) Heavy reliance=Absolute dependence. Palistine has no export base except possibly offshore gas. In theory, they could export olives is Israel would let that sector rebuild. And they have quite a bit of tourism oppertunities, if they can convince the tourists it’s safe. Until then, we either have to support them or stand back and watch ‘em die.
6) We need another Fukushima update. I’ll do one tomorrow if nobody beats me to it.
7) Before my time. I only remember the kerfluffle about the movie and the play.
8) Still don’t think banning large magazines will do much good, I can reload pretty fast and I don’t practice reloading. WTF are we allowing automatic weapons to be sold at all?
Ya know, that AR15 jammed. perhapsthe solution is to cheapen the guns so they jam after 20 shots. Jammed guns are a bitch to clear.
Boxturtle (You haven’t lived until the bolt of a .45 snaps shut on your finger)
And I’ll subscribe. Just waiting for it to happen.
Boxturtle (A newspaper not controlled by the 1% with real reporters! Woo Hoo!)
Happy lurking.
Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they? by George Carlin.
I was just trying to see who else was writing for them, Amy Goodman and Glenn, but I think we have other bloggers there, too. Does Marcy contribute there now, too?
U.K. is not busy enough with jubilee, olympics, wars, economy. Gotta provoke Latin America by performing war games at Malvinas. Apparently that’s in contradiction of agreement after war.
Not a crossword kinda guy. I’m actually working. (well, my machine is working)
Thanks Ruth.
And Greenwald will be a blogger and columnist there. To me, that says something positive about it. I may be mistaken, but it seems to me that he wouldn’t move to a publication that is a stenographer for the PTB.
And I have discovered that when I follow SD’s links up top, I see other things on the sidebars and read those too. So I get a somewhat different perspective on other news items. I think that will happen with the Guardian.
Good morning, everyone. VERY busy morning, so no time for chit chat. But it is cool and sunny, what a relief!
Noam Chomsky, Richard Wolff and Tariq Ali write occasional columns for them as well.
Here’s their site this morning:
http://www.guardiannews.com/
Sounds like a good recipe for a bike ride.
Want some good news for a change:
Patrick Connolly, Wheelchair-Bound Teen, Gets Lift At Blake Shelton Concert (VIDEO)
I love the earlin Carlin, but he turned mean and bitter and ceased being funny for me.
But he’s right. I’m sure neither orange nor green is eager to see the troubles restart.
Boxturtle (George Washington was a terrorist)
Morning. Good to hear that the Guardian will be available to the 99%.
Good Morning, SD and Pupses.
The Van Gogh exhibit in Ottawa was outstanding. Most of the paintings were new (to me at least), and quite a few out of private collections. It will be going to Philadelphia after it closes in Ottawa in September, and is well worth a visit. Very good discussion of his craftsmanship in the catalog, which has a huge number of paintings that were not shown. The only downside is that the contributors seem to have gone to the same writing school as Jonah Goldberg. Probably trust fund babies, too.
Morning SD & Pupses:
Ian Masters with Francis Wheen – after the intro. (Friday morning hoot.)
Willard in jolly old England. Here. Here.
And Willard gets a reboot.
Well, Abraham Lincoln was a Vampire Hunter.
It will be interesting if the Swedes decide to interview Assange at the embassy. I’m sure Hillary is putting enormous pressure on them not to do so. I wonder where Swedish opinion is. The cat is obviously out of the bag that the US have a sealed indictment against him, and that he can expect the Bradley Manning treatment if he is extradited. I wonder how much leverage the US has on the Swedes at this point?
On a related note, I know a Swedish scholar related to an ex prime minister who absolutely refuses to go the United States because he was active in left wing politics and doesn’t want to get shook down.
Willard straightens out all the poors about what caused this little economic blip thingy.
Mayhaps he was bitter at all the shit that was/is going on around us and actually had the balls to get up on stage and point it out. Some of his audience heard it, others went home and continued their lifestyle of willful ignorance. That would make me bitter too.
This is as close a link as I can come up with. Apparently they don’t give you much of a peek.
The computer had a hiccup this morning and I had to go offline to fix it.
All better now, at least for awhile and it is a relatively new computer.
Drago does not have the authority to ‘do what it takes’ to save the euro. The only institution with free hands is the Fed, which isn’t trammeled by a law that forbids them to monetize government debt. The computers on Wall Street nevertheless had a great day trading with each other yesterday. Smoke and mirrors. It’s like when your girlfriend leaves you, and you have good days and bad, but in the end she’s gone and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s the case with the euro.
I gather from RT coverage that Swedish “legal” system is pretty antediluvian. No bail, for example. Restrictions on accused ability to interact with theirs lawyers.
I also pick up from the ether (iow, can’t remember how I picked it up) that, just like the rest of Europe, Sweden’s gone right wing in the last couple of years.
Good morning msmolly.
I left you a “thank you” note yesterday for the reference to the Matt Taibbi post on using eminent domain in California to buy up underwater mortgages.
You probably moved on from that post but I wanted to say thank you for the heads up.
I STILL do not believe they made that movie. The writers DESERVE to starve.
Boxturtle (At least they had the decency not to use Gandhi or MLK. This time)
Any chance you might do an art post for tomorrow? It would be highly appreciated.
As Krugman mentions in the NYT this am, and Marion in Savannah gives us free reading, we have our own currency so we can exercise more freedom in what we do to keep our own money/dollar connected to real value.
I don’t know why he turned bitter, but I don’t argue he had cause. He just ceased being entertaining for me at that point.
Boxturtle (His mother lived in my area, so we got a lot of Carlin shows)
My sympathies are with Krugman too, how must it feel to deal daily with stuff that keeps happening that is disastrous when you told perpetrators it would happen, showed how it would happen, said it was happening, and now try to advise how to mop up after?
I always thought it should be called improperganda.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Gotta get some errands done before it gets too hot.
And not to flog a, ya know, dancing horse, but Charlie also weighs in on Willard’s trek around that “small island.”
Can’t, darnit. I am going to Indianapolis after lunch to see my granddaughter in an end-of-musical-theater-camp (that I paid for) show. I am going to the coin laundry in a few minutes with a big kitchen rug and the insulated mattress pad I use on my king size waterbed, neither of which can be dried in a dryer. I plan to leave them hanging to dry on the clothesline on my screened porch while I’m away for the weekend.
And this looks to be the nicest day for a bike ride we’ve had this week. But we have gotten a little much needed rain.
Thanks, SD. I go to the Guardian when you link to it, but now I have it bookmarked.
And finally, potential veep picks for Willard. You just can’t make this shit up…
Enjoy.
This is good too:
Christian Bale Visits Aurora Wounded
OK friends, I’m out. No WiFi at the coin laundry, so I will just wish you all a great day and pleasant weekend. I may peek in from my iPhone but can’t blog on that teeny screen/keyboard.
I did the NYT Crossword yesterday in 8 minutes and 43 seconds.
Morning :)
Enjoy, hope the theatre camp dividends pump you all up for aeons to come, good for you.
Couldn’t disagree more. But YMMV.
Better yet some of the hospitals are gonna eat the costs of care for the wounded. I don’t see any of the big SuperPAC donors steppin’ up to that plate.
May you be rewarded with the gold ring of NYT crosswords! and no Mitts on a pin involved.
And your friends told you from the beginning it would never work.
No NRA funds put in, either, are there!
Keep it quiet about that pricey ring you had in the back pocket, doncha?
Morning SD and firedogish firedogians.
Thanks for the links Dragonman. The IRA situation is certainly something to keep an eye on.
I’d settle for a pat on the head and an indulging grin.
Clearly, neither one of us is alone in our feelings. George is still making money, but I think his fan base has changed.
Boxturtle (I’ve heard that he’s become not-so-bitter in the last few years)
Should have written:
Comedians can make you laugh or think. He did both.
Toward the end, maybe a little more thinking?
Good Morning….Sarah is coming to TX to give voice in our Senate race…bet y’all are jealous. HAPPY Weekend.
Nor do i see anything from the NRA. If i were the NRA public relations officer, I’d be condemning that shooting, putting my money where my mouth was and pitching in, and making sure the world knew it.
it seems instead, said office and his deputies were on a flight to DC before the smoke cleared. Gotta make sure no gun control comes out of this.
Boxturtle (I guess when you own congress, you don’t really care what others think of you)
Caribou Barbie is going to be here?!
I must see her. She’s my favorite!
Are we talking about George Carlin? Didn’t he die a few years ago? Did I miss a memo or something? I guess you can be less bitter if you’re dead…
Argh! I owe you a drink. In my defense, FDL ate my respponse the first time I typed it. That’s been happening a LOT, I hit submit, the page refreshes with zero comments. I hit my browser refresh, and everything is back. Except the post i tried to make.
Boxturtle (I blame Obama)
Now you’re just showing off.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 2,061

US MBS 2012: 25,792 and counting
No war but class war
Pastures of Plenty (can’t help it, I love this song)
We work on the land
And we fight until we win
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Never. Give. Up.
Dunno. I lost track of him when he turned bitter. If he died, I bet he spent an hour bitching at God.
Boxturtle (Took an intermission, then bitched another hour)
Correctly?
I heard that he’s dead. Died in Jun 08 of a heart attack aged 71.
Works for more of us. But is this the first or not? (joke)
Exactly.
LOLOL
Hence the ‘not-so-bitter’?
Naw. They got a stripper that looks just like her in Florida, performing near the RNC. And the stripper probably has a lower door charge.
Boxturtle (And would probably make a better politician)
Well the older one becomes, the less tolerant one is of ignorance and insensitivity and selfishness. And the more willing one becomes to take people like this to task in a brutal way.
Absolutely.
Surrrrre. Yeh, I hear it’s going around, really.
spuds says to tell you his modem quit for three hours yesterday, about the time we had big storms beginning around noon.
This is life.
(and probably does less meth)
The Woodlands, I think…for Cruz.
PS. I left a very late entry last night on yesterday’s Diner. I had a very funny phone call from (guess) Mrs. Blondie Newt…recorded of course and pretty long…telling me that she and Newt are working hard to get God back in our schools….If you get it, be sure to hold on. B/c then you get a live operator, so you can talk back. Toooo funny. Cannot imagine what list they used; the live voice asked me if she were talking to Mr. or Mrs “bev”. Gag…Blondie really goes on & on about her new view.
George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) per wiki.
RIP.
Boxturtle (Sorry, George, I spent all my time keeping up with the Kardashians)
S/he left?
Sheesh. Probably the same list that Kristen and I are on – we got John McCain mailers a couple weeks back, begging us to give $45 to Mittens. McCain promised to match our donation up to $45!!
I have Kim’s sex tape if you ever want to borrow it…
No wonder you thought George was alive and bitter.
When the funding for teachers was decimated.
It may be the oddest and funniest auto-calls I have ever heard…like, What is she doing on my phone?
I loved him as Jim in Empire of the Sun.
Amen…that’ll do it….NPR hysterical coverage about Mitt goes to London…..Are we Ready??? LOL.
At least our WI, “governor,” has other priorities and we need not worry about him being selected as VP, for the moment.
Morning Pups,
Very near the center of a slow moving, low pressure system. Getting rain from the same rain cloud repeatedly this morning. Needed and fortunate.
I wish I got cool calls like that. I’d have so much fun with the unsuspecting phonebank jockey.
I did too….Hope you get one.;) I’d be so interested to know what sorts of reactions they get.
Glad you got the rain. Makes for nice fresh produce. Today having just picked raspberries.
Having once worked at a firm that also employed our present state rep, I get all the literature, and enjoy it. Since cutting the landline, tho, the ‘survey’ calls ended.
You might have said, Tell Newticles that he can get his God back in the schools if he lets him out of the bedroom.
EVERYBODY has Kim’s sex tape! :-)
My interest in it would be strictly medical, I’m curious how well all that surgery holds up under stress.
Boxturtle (You believe me, don’t you?)
Nuh Uh. I don’t.
But, I knew that George was dead. We must live in different universes.
Don’t assume just because I’m clueless that I’m in a different universe.
Boxturtle (Would you believe me if I said I was doing a research paper on reproduction?)
Of course I believe you. I used the same bullshit excuse!
KrisA (I didn’t buy it. It was a free gift when I purchased an under-the-bed restraint system)
But is Carlin universally dead? not if you visit the nets! and, sad to say, much that he condemned still lives.
Riiiiiiiight. :)
We could start a t-shirt campaign: Carlin Lives.
We’ve spent some evenings listening to Carlin on youtube. Makes for a nice family event. And, with all the rolling on the floor, I don’t have to clean.
Carlin bunny slippers! with wax.
(hands over ears LALALALA)
That one took me a minute, but I finally got there.
Hi Ruth,
Almost an embarrassment of riches from the earth with so little effort. An embarrassment that I wish the 1% might feel sometime. Oh wait, I forgot about that apparent absence of feeling or anything akin to it, in that rarefied environment.
BBC science news early this morning discussed the new heights (literally) being reached by the more frequent mega thunderstorms pumping chemical changes higher into our ozone layers and exacerbating things by punching numerous holes in the protective layer, year round, and not only at the poles. These are new findings, being that the storms are climbing higher than previously noticed or thought of as normal. No link, sorry.
I wonder what’s worse, being a teenager and imagining your parents havinging sex, or being a parent and imagining your kids Doing It.
I once woke up and heard my daughter in her bedroom say Don’t stop. Had to put my head under the pillow.
Carlin is not dead as long as his Seven Words live on!
Boxturtle (He is one of the few who really can get laughs reading a phone book aloud)
All I have for that is; Good Morning! :)
Or. TMI….;)
Hi Hi. How are you feeling? Everything okey-dokey?
Fortunately, there’s no rule that we each have to appreciate all the comments here.
spud won’t listen to Carlin anymore either, after he insulted white blues musicians.
Just fine, thanks. Hope all is well with you.
Should he walk out of the embassy, U.S. will send a drone to kill him. Obama probably has already signed an order. Assange is going to be a walking dead. Obama has no qualms about killing U.S. citizens, not to speak of foreigners.
No complaints here. The weather is gorgeous. We’re lightening the load some more around here. Rescue Mission coming today to pick up boxes and bags of books, clothing, etc. Yay!
Good on ya. Something we need to do at our house. Desperately.
Out for now. Have a great day all. Thanks again SD.
Mitt will v-pick Palin for her foreign policy expertise. At least she knows Russia when she sees it. /s
Nicknames evolving (is that still allowed in the new Willard Mitty world?). Mitt the Twit. Mitty the Moocher… others? And who the heck was Mitt named for?
Good Morning, Prairie!
mornin’, Demi. I’m running late today. reading Carl Lewis in the Guardian. Comments a hoot!
Catching up on the household work this morning and I’m so glad to have a worthwhile suggestion to occupy my thoughts PS. LOL Thanks!
The suddenness of change is astonishing. We used to compare notes on ten years ago, now it’s about last year.
Got to get to a local annual bake sale now, everyone have a good day.
hello demi,
Going through the list here, looking for some organization to come and get the stuff I’ve sorted out as no longer needed, but too good to discard.
Sorry wrong reply number, this to demi@ 123
Damn, I go to the coin laundry and look at all the fun I missed. (Under the bed restraints? Really? And wax bunny slippers?)
I just want to know who he has under the bed??
Mitt Out A Clue? In Utah, a town named Mitt occurs. And I see his uncle Mitt was named Milton, nickname Mitt.
Slipping out of here on the waxed pair.
Enjoy.
Depends on your definition of fun. :)
Might be more anxiety ridden than fun (oh you don’t know the shape I’m in).
Morning msmolly, have a great time with the grand child.
ooops, my bad, the town’s name is Willard. but still,
My bet is that “Sweden” will decide after the interview that Assange needs to go to trial, so nothing will change. Except, of course, the legal situation will be more dire in Sweden. Perhaps that is by design to justify Ecuador giving Assange asylum. Hmm. Interesting developments.
Oh, that’s a good one.
Time to put on my tennies and move my feet.
Take good care all.
Uh oh. It looks like I need to go back and read the whole thread. Sounds like Fifty Shades of Caturday…
*g*
*g* and *LOL*
Mitt uses his to keep the dog carrier on the roof :)
I’ve got to head out, too.
Safe travels and safe home, pupses, dears,
ohmmmm
OMG that’s funny!
A toe-tapping theme song for Mitt’s RNC entrance.
(couldn’t think of any clever names, PW)
Continual confusion. Back to work here, a good weekend to every pup.
Thanks, I will!
My daughter & son-in-law have a 14th wedding anniversary on Aug. 2nd, so I’m going to stay with the girls tomorrow night so they can go to dinner (using a coupon they have from somewhere). I always give both son and daughter an anniversary check, so that will cover dinner. The other kids are away so I won’t see them this trip.
My typo, intended, PS,
Sorry.
A little noon time cheer.
Thanks…what a good Mama to stand by and smart bears, I’d say…
Been thinking of you, SD….Thanks.
Oh, yes! That cheered me! Thank you!
Plessed to hear about Guardian US edition. Love their news and great book reviees too.
I think there is a market for real reporting, now that mpst papers have self_destructed by bandoning real journalism.
Sorru for tpos. KIndle post.
Sorry for typos!
LOL.
