Robert Randolph & the Family Band — Run For Your Life, live at Austin City Limits, September 30, 2002.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how’s everyone doing tonight?
just a heads up – i won’t be here tomorrow and thur. firepup mary mac has graciously agreed to host in my absence
Hey, Suze! You doing anything interesting the next two nights?
hey tejan — how ya doing tonight? *laughing* yeah, i’ll be “running” back and forth to the bathroom – tomorrow is prep day and thur i get scoped.
Ha! Enjoy some jello. I finally got my wifi going again….but still don’t have my printer wired up. I’ll be around to chat up mary mac. Hope you have a good and successful test.
And that you’ll be back to dive on the weekend.
hey dearie — how’s the ‘nard tonight? clear liquids only tomorrow and they can not be red, orange or purple nor have any pulp – no cream in my coffee :(
I’ve been hanging out at La Figa, waiting for a response. Did not realize it was so late. Hey Suzanne, I can guess what you are doing — the colon scope?
hey ce — how’s cleveland tonight? yup… i wonder how bfl’s went on monday. sounds like he had less rigid diet and prep…
BTW, I’d heard on NPR that women “of a certain age” no longer need to test for cervical cancer…..but then my primary doctor said he’d recently had a 68 year old female patient who showed up with cervical cancer. So I had that test, too. The PA who did the test said that if one has insurance, then why the heck not check to make sure you are clear. Makes sense to me.
My primary physician is an old white dude that was assigned to me when I changed insurances. He asked, “Who does your Pap tests?” I said, “Well, I think you do.” He looked askance, but then he pulled out some old stainless steel equipment, blew the dust off of it, and did the deed. Now I go to a local Ob/Gyn for that test. Everyone seems happier about that.
evening, Suzzzz, hiya CE
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! My condolences ahead of time, Suz…!
MrCE and I should be doing this. My supervisor does this every year. Gaah! Break in the weather today and a lovely, lovely evening dining outside tonight.
LOL… blew the dust off… oh my stars dearie
hey ppd — how’s monterey bay tonight?
Oh, ick. You haven’t had enough medical tsouris? (just kidding).
Hoped you were going somewhere fun.
Well, speaking of how late it is, I’d better shut down and jump into bed. Hope your scoping and prepping go well. ;)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? thanks dood
Nah, it’s nothing. And it is reassuring to know that there are things that can be done if you do have early problems. I, for one, am grateful that there are tests for life-ending junk!
the primary doc i saw end of march said i had to get a boob squash, a pap, and a scope. those were her must do’s…
BFL dropped by last nite and said he’d had a benign polyp removed, but, they can’t figure out what’s wrong with him…!
no worries, Suzzz — everybody’s doin’ it these days
i talked them into waiting until i was off crutches… the nice lady who did the scheduling agreed that was a very acceptable reason for a delay.
I used to be such a good patient, every year. And now I’m a derelict.
Hey, PPD, how’s your fog? Mine is coming along just fine. I walk with a friend who lives a few miles inland, but I’m going to ask her to come over my way, so we can walk cool. Cuz we’re cool chicks!
A boob squash? rofl. Glad I stayed long enough to see that. My bedtime giggle-snort! Thanks, Suzanne.
its the prep that has me tweaked… after all, i *did* feature that billy connolly video up top a while back
*heh* I’m grateful for the tests, despite the many discomforts they may entail…! ;-)
me too — dr d had the ‘while you are here we are going to do (x)’ attitude… was good to get all checked out (and it got the girls and my mom off my back)
*laughing* not only did i get a boob squash, i did it standing on one leg — that was back in my non-weight bearing days….
I’m having a “hip” problem that my kids are screaming about. I better take care of it.
Some things are ‘informative.’ The PA who did my recent Pap said, “No one ever needs to die of cervical cancer. It’s fixable. Just let us find it in time.” I agree! And I’m grateful that I have insurance and can submit to the indignity of being protected from death by cervical cancer. Ya know?!
yes ma’am — you should. don’t make me get my nag on girlfriend…
i agree too!
Sigh. I promise I will. I’m starting to toddle.
We get low clouds off Monterey Bay — no ground fog, usually here within 10 miles of the water.
not good ce — toddling leads to tipping and we all know where that got me :) seriously, i’m glad you are gonna get it checked out. wmd had hip surgery end of last year and was back at work in something like two weeks!
Goodnight all! Such wonderful sleeping temps — we are going to bed.
OK! My kids will be happy.
Wow, I didn’t realize that. We have low fog blowing in all the time, and I kinda love it! I’ll see the fog blowing in on my street or down the alley behind my house and I smile. I haven’t needed furnace or AC this summer. And we get some glorious sunny afternoons. When I see what the rest of the country is enduring, I have NO complaints!
Hola Suz and llners. I am supposed to get that scope too, have not signed up for it. It is what my people die from mostly, so I know I gotta do it. Shite and shite. Runs for your life, eh Suz?
Hey Suzanne and everybody!
So, very sadly, one of our locals made big but horrible headlines. Not good at all.
So immediately I wondered what was up with him. This is the best I’ve found so far.
hey bg — how’s nm tonight? my dad had polyps and when i told dr d that, she said i needed to get scoped
hey wigwam — how’s the inland empire tonight?
Do it! Get a base line. Take care of business……especially if it’s in the family. We are, I think, lucky that there are tests nowadays for these ‘dreadfuls.’ We don’t have to suffer more than some minimal discomfort.
Pap smears and Mammograms are two more reasons I’m glad that I’m a guy…! ;-)
i figured it was an appropriate song…. and his feet sure do move there at the end :)
prostate dood… i’m just saying…
And I so would NOT want to have a prostate exam! We all gotta do what we gotta do.
Lovely warm tea coming down the tubes for you!
I know I gotta do the deed. I’ll get around to it soon enough, it’s hard to find the time, honestly. I know one finds time for what is important, and I just need to do it. But I have so much to do all the time.
My prostate exam consisted of peeing in a cup and some blood work, easy-peasy…! ;-)
Our boy Holmes seems to have lost his mind. I’ve been trying to figure out what might have gone through it, and the best I’ve heard is that posting at Yves Smith’s Naked Capitalism. Go figger!
Monterey Peninsula area is right on the bay and ocean so they get that type of fog regularly.
the best is yet to come
when i heard he was a neuroscientist very intelligent guy i wondered if he had had a break — that movie a beautiful mind flashed in my head…
just call and schedule it and then work your calender around your doc appt. you can make the time – maybe do the prep on a sunday so you only miss monday from the business week
I got scheduled for a base-line test…..and was floored when I learned that I had a bunch of polyps. Had a second, clear, test a couple of years later. I’m so glad I didn’t put it off. And there’s no history in my family. I have to have another in a five year time frame. If also clear then I’m back to the 10 year time frame. Gonna say it again: I’m so glad I didn’t put off the test!
If you click on the word “this” in my comment at #44, it will take you to an article at Yves Smith’s Naked Capitalism. That is the best I’ve found so far.
Yes, I think that’s what we’ll eventually learn…..a wonderful mind that went awry. I wish we had a strong mental health system, but I know that we do not. This will happen again….and it has nothing to do with “terrorism” …. it has to do with someone whose mind just broke.
i hadn’t heard about the macdonalds thing….
A great article, wigwam…!
I am starting to see red coming on some tomatoes in my yard, that’s exciting. Did not have any last year. It is basically hot, if I don’t put some water on the plants every day, they can’t take it. Got grapes coming in now, and the peaches are looking promising, if not exactly bountiful this year.
i wonder if he had student loans
why didn’t ya have tomatoes last year?
The part that chilled me was when a reporter had called the mom’s house, before she was aware of the massacre, and said the police have the right guy in her son…! 8-(
So, David Seaton posted something wondering what happened at my.fdl and I responded saying that I shared his questions and posed the question of what Holmes was doing from his 2010 UCR graduation until his 2011 acceptance at Univ. of Colorado. Almost immediately someone posted this link to this Alternet article cross posted to Naked Capitalism.
That sort of detail has never yet appeared in the mainstream media. Blogging is where you get at the real shit.
i heard it was clarified that she was responding to the question about her being the mom of a son going to college in colorado…. it got twisted by the media into something it wasn’t
Sounds like he was on scholarships. There are probably a multitude of reasons, and little things that added up to push him to the edge. But I am guessing mostly some kind of psychotic break. Regardless, it is a tragedy. we will never do anything reasonable about guns. Our country is just in trouble, and it is not going to get better.
Today I had my teeth cleaned, and the hygenist, who I have suspected is some kind of xtian, got on a tear about Obamacare and taxes, drinking the redstate koolade for sure. Then got on climate change, same crap. I could not talk because of hands in mouth. I have been imagining sending her some articles, but I need a new printer for my computer to do that.
Aah, I hadn’t heard that clarification…!
She has since said that they skewed that…. which, of course, would be no surprise. I doubt, however, that the parents didn’t have some concern about their son’s state of mind…. i.e., his precariousness. I don’t think even loving, caring parents can imagine that their child will totally whack out…. I really can’t. And what would they have done even if they did have concerns? There isn’t anyone to help.
Hi Suzanne. Good question. It’s clear that he had worked hard to be among the “best of the best” all the way through the California system. Of course, he felt a certain right to a reasonable job involving the skills he had worked so hard to acquire. It did not work out that way for him. And, I’ll bet that rocked his world.
That excuses nothing! But, at this point, we all want/need an explanation, however cockamaimie.
oh lardy — you were trapped. yikes
Suz, I don’t know what happened to the tomatoes last year, mainly just gone so much to LM’s that I think it was just a general fail in the garden. I think I had a pumpkin and some fruits, but not much else. The grapes have been good, in fact this year, I am feeling a little overwhelmed with them. The birds and bees have been enjoying them for sure, there are a lot high up that ripen first, so they have an easier time getting up there than I do.
Save your efforts! I’ve been trying to talk with my brother and father for years now……to no effect! Fortunately we care enough about each other that we can still go out to dinner, laugh a lot, enjoy each others’ company == even while they think I’m a communist and I think they are total idiots “:)!~
i’ve always figured that the fruit i cant reach belongs to the birds… of course, the deer and the bears did like the apples out on the bay. did a walk down to the end of the street today and saw an old pear tree with fruit and an apple tree and what i think is a plum tree in addition to the cherry tree across the street. that’s just on one block. i’ve seen deer here but no bears…
But, did she stick her boob in your ear? Otherwise, you got short changed.
That’s an old joke between me and an old friend who was an instructor of dental hygene at UC San Francisco. I’ll not go into the details.
bg, my dad has tomatoes galore on the three plants on his patio….two jetsetters and a Stupice (thanks for the encouragement, nonquixote)….. delicious! My daughter also has tomatoes ripening. And other stuff….. the baby boys took a handful of Blue Lake green beans and a jalapeno pepper to their great-granddad this past weekend….. and traded for a bag full of tomatoes. Such fun! We’ve got agriculture coursing through our veins, and it is totally delightful to see it blossoming in this new generation!
I am sure you are right, a wasted effort. When I used teh google to look up some info (she said, “It’s all over the news today.”) I realized that she is just reading the stuff she wants to believe, all the facts in fact check, or magazines like “Business News,” “Forbes,” and that sort of stuff at least have some actual data and truth, if there be any.
She’s good at her job, and that means no boobs in my ear. We have never had a political discussion, she started it, I think, by talking to me about how her sister is going to have to pay taxes for Obamacare if she sells her condo. I looked into that, and she is right, her sister will have to pay 3.8 percent more on her capital gains if she sells the place (it is in a complex that most of the units are foreclosed on, and I guess no one could get their money out of it, another scam of course). Of course she only pays if she has capital gains, which it sounds like not, and IF she makes more than $200K in a year. So probably, no extra taxes for her sister.
#Anaheim riots LiveStream
Protesters vs police
Protesting cops b/cause cops shot unarmed man on his knees in back of head. Things are getting out of control. Journalist was trapped, police firing into crowds,
hey crane — how ya doing tonight?
Wouldn’t it be great….fun, enlightening, real…. if we had a real journalistic class that would slap down all the nonsense that is spewed!
We are in the deep end of the pool…..and there is no one who is coming to rescue us with truth. Tread on, folks…….and keep those pitchforks sharpened!
The posting at Altenet/NakedCapitalism seemed to have details that I’ve not seen in mainstream reporting, e.g., the fact that Holmes had to work at MacDonalds during his off-year between his B.S. and entering graduate school.
I’ve been seeing this on FB tonight. Maybe this is what starts the revolution.
for Wigwam:Boobs in my ears. . .
Very hot here, I had gone to sleep on the couch, when Mason woke me about this Anaheim thing. He said that they weren’t letting anyone out of Disneyland even. Very strange.
The protest is over an incident from a couple of days ago.
Anyhow, we are doing fine. It is very hot and dry here. 84 F at 1:20 AM.
i can’t believe i’ve never heard that before…
This sounds good.
.. her sister is going to have to pay taxes for Obamacare if she sells her condo. I looked into that, and she is right, her sister will have to pay 3.8 percent more on her capital gains if she sells the place …
Hmmm. I did not realize that Obamacare imposed a 3.8% increase on the capital-gains tax.
that’s too hot to sleep. its cooled down to 66 here along the columbia river — that incident a couple days ago was when the police dog was sent into the crowd and went after a woman holding her baby iirc… they were protesting a police shooting and had another shooting the day after that protest if i also remember correctly
Well, not exactly. Only if you make more than $200K per year and a few other caveats. But you can see from this snopes entry exactly how this info has come about.
Damn, I need my printer.
Hey, Suz, maybe everyone tucked in…….well, that’ll happen. Hope your tomorrow is relatively non-eventful. And the test is the deal….. it matters. I think! I don’t know if the medical community is conning us like the banks did. I’m a naif!
It’s crap, and apparently you don’t listen to the Right. Sources.
time for me to fix a little something to eat before i can’t eat — i’m sure i’m gonna regret eating anything now tomorrow
thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight
Sweet dreams, Suz…! Good luck…!
for Wigwam:Boobs in my ears. . .
It’s an unnecessarily long story, but… When I was an undergraduate, the only program on campus that had an “appearance requirement” was the dental hygene degree. And these (exclusively) young ladies had to solicit other undergraduates to volunteer to be their practice subjects. For which I volunteered from time to time.
Many years later, the fiance of a friend was an assistant professor of dental hygene at UCSF and would have been a classmate of the dental hygenics students who worked on my teeth. I made the mistake of mentioning one buxom bonde by name, and she (the fiance0 immediately asked “Did she stick her boob in your ear?” in front of a full party of people. I was the laughing stock of the party for the rest of the night. And, yes, she did.
Good-night, Suzanne. Be well and keep your sense of humor!
It keeps you runnin’ Suz, good luck. We’ll be waiting for the story.
Congrats, CT, for the magical 99…… a good late late, indeed.
*heh* And I wasn’t even trying…! It’s been awhile since we’ve seen 100+ comments at lln…! ;-)
Hey CT. I just got back from a wonderful week in Maui. Damn that’s beautiful place. And the food is exceptional.
Where did you stay…? Did you take the road to Hana…? ;-)
Tell us about it! Where did you eat, what did you do? Any snorkeling?
I loved Paia, sounds like it has become the most very groovy place now.
My wife rented us a “villa” at Kapalua on the bay. Awesome! My stepson was with us, so we had a two-story unit, with us on the upper story.
We hit a bunch of amaizingly good food joints: Pinapple Grill, Mama’s Fish House (the best), Halii-Maile General Store, Gannon’s, 100 Wines, Mala Tavern (Lahaina), etc.
Hi BG. I was not feeling well on snorkeling day, so my wife and stepson took that trip. I was still recovering from something.
It was rather amazing how midnight in California is only 9:00 pm in Hawaii.
I’m used to the east coast vs west coast time difference, but not this one.
I’m sure they had great stories of that day. I loved it, we were able to snorkel right at the beach where we were, but there are so many places to go. I forget if Mama’s is the place on that wonderful beach? Lahaina is not my favorite place, too much all the same, but there is good food of course. I liked the off the beat places a lot. Did not go to Hana. Also, we had to tell our various tour guides (we did a few tours) to knock off on the racist jokes. . .but it is beautiful. I got stung by a bunch of bees one place we went.
Mama’s is a bit expensive but the best food on Maui so far as we can tell.
I agree about Lahaina, and like you we did not go to Hana this time. Nor did we again go to the top of Haleakala.
