Hi, Suzanne. My connectivity is still sketchy….haven’t installed the new modem yet….kind of scared to mess with it, in fact. But, hey, is that “our” ThatGuy? My machine won’t let me play it right now, but I’ll give it a try later. (And I’m laughing about how my grandfather in San Francisco called automobiles “machines.”)
Things are good here…..we actually had raindrops this afternoon. I don’t want to brag, but California coast is enjoying a very comfortable summer. Hey, we pay for it!
I’ve been eating saute’ed padron peppers from the Santa Barbara Farmers Market for days…….yumminess.
My coast pays in earthquakes, fires, gridlock on freeways. A nice summer is just a treat!
Who, exactly, is Thatguy? Maybe I’m just slow, but he seems to be some big mystery of a mystery. Like he’s famous for something but it can’t be spoken?
I’ve lived in Houston, in Chicago, in Cincinnati, in Tucson……I’ve done HOT and HUMID! I was a kid in California and experienced some real earthquakes over the years. And they planted a damned “Tsunami Zone” (be afraid, be very afraid) sign at the end of my street here on the south central California coast. Whatever!!! At least I’m not in Kansas.
that guy is the guy intro’d by lee roy at the beginning of the video — he talks for a minute after the intro saying he learned all he knows about guitar from (pointing to leeroy)
he comes into lln and drops links to leeroy or paul thorne – both of whom he has played with
It was my corporate dad who hauled our California asses to Houston…. where the locals thought we were from England. (Tales I could tell!) And then an ex who dragged me….not kicking and screaming, I’m adventurous!… to the Midwest. I spent 25 years in the Midwest …. and am not complaining. But, wow, I was pretty darned happy to take a train back to Cal-i-forn-I-a when I was free and all grown up. I osmose the Pacific Ocean every darned day!
I’ve had the fun of the bayous of lousy-anna, the Mojave Desert, the Deep Woods of Maine, the Black Forest of Germany, and, the Korean peninsula…! Korea sucks, Germany rocks, and, the Big Isle rules the Roost…! ;-)
haven’t ventured far a’foot — down a couple houses on one side and only one on the other. today i did a biggie — i walked to the street and back without my cane.
It’s great, really, to get around! In Houston we called ‘em by-ohs. We lived by Buffalo Bayou (by-oh)….. and my brother had a horse, and we had huge bull snakes in the yard and it was all just amazing.
I would say it was hard because none of us fit in…. just outsiders waiting to grow up and get out, but it was also an adventure.
My own kids did years in Chicago and then years in Cincinnati. They have friends they still keep in touch with in both places. I don’t have that….and neither do my brother or sister. But I still am not complaining.
going down those three little steps from the porch was forking scary — no handrail yanno. so i canted my body to about a 45 degree angle — for some reason its not as scary at an angle — and did the steps down. coming back, i was feeling sore but going up the steps was easier than the down. i’m still doing stairs one at a time and have a ways to go before i’m back to normal walking, including up and down stairs
I’m pretty sure that since last we talked that I’m now a grandpa. My grandson, Cardiff Alexander Emde, was born on March 1st, 2012. I went to California in April and saw him at about 7 weeks and we got along really well. I can see the blessings of being a grandparent and am trying to figure out how to be a bigger part of his/their life.
I’m hoping for another visit in September.
I also went back to the ancestral area of Illinois during the same trip and got to see my parents and family that’s there and take some time off.
I still have a job and hopes for continued employment due to lucky circumstances and favorable locale, so things move on.
Can I be any more vague?
Since I never come to late night, I don’t actually know how you’re doing these days either, Suze. But I don’t expect you to update me either.
grandparent hood is wonderful! i broke my leg feb 4th (but didn’t drop my grandbaby). ended up on a hospital bed in her mom’s living room for 4 months – had surgery and 3 months of no weight bearing and finally moved 6 weeks ago into a wee little bungalow in the town of st helens, oregon — 25 miles north of portland. my grandbaby is the lemonade — got to see her every day :)
The Better Half and I, had the pleasure of babysitting the munchkin last nite…! The little buggah is almost walking and his mop top is much thicker and longer…! ;-)
me too. we moved every year — sometimes every two years — until the year i was going into the 6th grade. virginia, northern ca, southern ca, new orleans, back to socal and then way north in norcal and then to the sf bay area. my dad was a cook in the navy for 20 years
All the warnings of: “live for today”; “life is short”, and so on all point to life changing in a blink.
It’s pretty funny, this idea that we “own” ourselves. I read some analysis, maybe on the “League of Ordinary Gentlemen”, where they broke down that idea that I own myself and could sell myself into bondage via contract. I’m too lazy to track down the link.
In my reality, we come pretty helplessly into an incredibly complex thing that we had no hand in creating and which we owe to some creative force and/or all the people of all the generations and all the animals and good forces that happened to come together here. So this idea that someone or some family, could take everything from so many…
I just read today that the Walton Family, of Wal-Mart fame, has more wealth and the bottom 1/3rd of all of us.
Grandkids are cool. I think I’ve told this story before, but maybe there is a new crowd who’ll get a chuckle: My daughter asked her little identical twin boys, who will soon be 4 years old, “Do you know why you have the same birthday?” They thought and thought. Then one said, “I know! Because we’re Italian.”
We’re all still laughing. Their dad is American of full Sicilian descent. But, yes, the boys have a lot to learn about how families do that tree thing.
i swear, i used to claim i was raised in the back seat of the station wagon. navy took care of hauling the household goods but my mom was the one who packed us kids in the wagon and drove us to the new base. my dad would be on the ship.
we took all vacations in the car — drove to see kin – dang near had a family member in every state along the route. i can handle kids in the car but don’t think i could handle 7 days at dizzyland
*heh* I took my family, after spending 5 days at dizzyworld, straight up I-95 to visit my Grandma in Nova Scotia, before we’d headed here to the Isles, what fun indeedy…! ;-)
Not quite. The group that I support is still working on an Appeal to the appeal And the the California coastal commission.
So they are going to try and convince the coastal commission that this stadium is too bright for the area. They have ruled in the past that bright lights are bad in. malibu.
But I learned a lot about how gov works.
Thanks! It was a really interesting book. The News Corp empire is really corrupt and powerful. They don’t hesitate to break the law to get a scandel story. They just pay for it or they pay off later.
Hey Suz.

You must have meant that for Dearie. She is the one full of fire and vinegar this time of night ;-)
On edit: Either I can’t read or the FDL gremlins are back.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!

I can totally relate, M’dear…! Paradise certainly ain’t cheap…! ;-)
Who, exactly, is Thatguy? Maybe I’m just slow, but he seems to be some big mystery of a mystery. Like he’s famous for something but it can’t be spoken?

C’mon tuez, you must remember That Guy…! Btw, Suz, I’m a tad miffed he didn’t send me some clips like he said he would…! ;-)
had some mist here — not enough to be considered a drizzle. high was only in the high 60′s today and its down to 62 at the moment
he’s one of our lln peeps
I’m thinkin’ I might be about 10 years too young.
he had promised to get video the next time he played with lee roy — he sent this to me at the end of last week
I know he is a lln peep but who the hell is he?
*heh* Uncle Sam has sent me to many ‘exotic’ locales…! Usually, with only what I could carry on my back…! ;-)
that guy is the guy intro’d by lee roy at the beginning of the video — he talks for a minute after the intro saying he learned all he knows about guitar from (pointing to leeroy)

The big guy?
yup….
That would be That Guy…! ;-)

How’s your leg doing tonite, Suz…?
Thanks the confusion has cleared. No doubt to return but hey…
hips are sore today as are my leg muscles. she worked me hard yeterday! sore is better than pain tho
Are you walking around the neighborhood meeting the neighbors yet? That’s gonna be key. Freedom, Girl, freedom and mobility.
I’ve had the fun of the bayous of lousy-anna, the Mojave Desert, the Deep Woods of Maine, the Black Forest of Germany, and, the Korean peninsula…! Korea sucks, Germany rocks, and, the Big Isle rules the Roost…! ;-)

Hi Suzanne, one of my infrequent “he’s up later than normal” check-ins to Late Night at FDL.
Things are going well here. I keep doing stuff and sometimes I learn something new; situation normal.
Glad to see you as cheerful and love-giving as always.
Thanks for all you and the FDL regulars, crew and everyone else is doing.
(I don’t get out much, I know :-) )
haven’t ventured far a’foot — down a couple houses on one side and only one on the other. today i did a biggie — i walked to the street and back without my cane.
hey brione! so good to see your fonts again. whatcha been up to?
YEAH.
In due course, it will come back.

I agree a gadzillion percent.

i stopped off and visited jen and jules before my pt appt yesterday — jules is getting leggy and walks faster than i do. she’s almost running
i really wish that viacom and direct tv would settle their differences — i really miss seeing the daily show

It’s late and I ramble.
ramblin’ is what we do best around here brione — this the whole point :)
I’m not sure about moving kids but 3 days in Paris is much better than 7 at Disney.
