Living Scenery – from the Drew Carey show Whose Line Is It Anyway, with special prop star Richard Simmons.
What’s on your mind?
Hi Suz!
g’evening pups. today, at the maritime festival, a stern wheeler crashed into a pirate ship – no injuries but a friday the 13th story for sure. the fireworks over the river from the festival just started going off but i can’t see them
how’s everyone doing tonight?
newton! how ya been dood?
hi suz, newt! drive-by delurk to say hi and g’nite. hope all is well?
I’m good, Suz.
How goes the healing??
Hi/Bye spur!
doesn’t seem to be overly populated here tonight
hey spur — how ya doing? i’m settling into my new to me bungalow and small town living. leg is improving, albeit slower than i would wish.
I’m heading back to the front page to watch the boys from improv use Richard Simmons as a prop…
Yes, there’s a cringe-worthy factor in the offing, but like all good trainwrecks…
glad things are getting better, even if it’s slow. i checked out your new town and it looks right near the columbia river–cool
am walking with a cane, doing laps in my driveway. today i ventured out onto the street and down two houses to the north. slow progress but progress. i still have a love/hate relationship with ice but we are not seeing as much of each other as we used to
people sleeping here so i can’t turn up the sound; will watch it tomorrow
ice, at this time of year? it’s been HOT around here (not today though, thankfully)
old town is right down at the riverfront — about 100 feet or so lower elevation than where i’m at. quaint is a good description for old town – the old county courthouse, all the old brick buildings and victorians.
be careful! don’t want to fall and damage it again…
sounds very nice! i love rivers
for the knee and ankle
slow and steady – watching where i put each foot and trying to keep my gait the way the pt lady likes it. lotsa concentration involved in those driveway laps and small side trips :)
oh, THAT kind of ice. yuck. i don’t like it either
Wait – Ice? In July?
I need to get out more.
Edit: ok, shutting up now.
sounds like a lot of work. glad you’re getting help to do it right
:-)
i don’t like it but i do love what it does — reducing swelling and pain but lard love a duck, i do not like those first few minutes when the ice packs are on….
well, i’m going to go crash. inlaws (outlaws?) arriving monday for 2 weeks and the house is a dump; lots to do this weekend!
g’nite spur
i wouldn’t like it either. but if it works? what are you going to do
crawling off to bed. nite suz, nite newt! sweet dreams
Good evening, Suz and lln pups. Woody Guthrie’s birthday tomorrow – this land is your land, and don’t forget it.
By August they will be a distant memory.
nite spur
hey past — how’s utah tonight?
Aloha, Suz, and lln pups…!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Mostly sunny all day, after a early morning shower…! Stayed close to home with it being Friday the 13th, I’ve never been a fan of ‘em…!
me neither which is why i stayed home and learned about the stern wheeler crashing into the pirate ship on the teevee machine tonight. we were in the high 70′s today here in town — was the 9th (or was it 10th) day in a row of 80 degrees in portland
You know what’s nice about being semi-retired? I didn’t even notice that it was Friday the 13th~
Beautiful day on the south central coast of California.
I made dozens of meatballs to freeze for later use. Spiffed up my yard. Finished a book I’d been working on…..about Mallory and Mt. Everest. Just enjoyed a lovely day.
hey dearie — sounds wonderful! you gonna see the grandbabies this weekend?
Hi Tut-
I read that piece about the sternwheeler – how no one gets hurt is pretty weird.
My little slice of Utah is about 70 degrees right nowk with a cool breeze. Rained for about 20 minutes this evening and cooled things down real nice. I’ve been in Cortez, CO since Wednesday and just got home late this afternoon. Drove thru Moab UT Wed morning (at 99 degrees) to get there, but Cortez is 10 degrees cooler because of its 7000 ft elevation.
I’m meeting my neo-con twin brother (you gotta laugh) at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market in the morning and then we’ll go take our dad out to lunch. Then, if my daughter and her husband and the kids aren’t off at the beach, I’ll drop by. My dad has huge tomato plants that are bearing fruit like crazy, and if I don’t get the baby-boys up there tomorrow, I’ll take them on Sunday to do some harvesting. It’s such fun for all!
Aloha, newt…! It’s been awhile…!
hella start for the first annual maritime festival — and it has that whole only in portland (or along its river) vibe to it… i’ve never heard of a similar kinda crash — but then i can’t recall if there were pirates on the mississippi back in the day of the paddlewheel riverboats
cortez still gets pretty darn hot — my younger daughter, steph, spent last summer interning at a substance abuse program down there.
Aloha, Dearie… Do I foresee some fresh tomato sauce for those meatballs in the near future…? ;-)
the boys must be looking forward to harvesting from their plants… nothing tastes better than a freshly picked tomato
My family going back hundreds of years tell stories about Mississippi River piracy. Lafitte something. He is portrayed as a kind of Robin Hood of the muddy, though it sounds like bullshit to me.
Indeed.
And, Suz, my daughter has bean plants and tomatoes and basil and peppers and such on her porch. The boys snack on fresh and raw blue lake beans every day. We get such a kick out of this since it all started with a guy from the Santa Barbara Men’s Garden Club teaching them how to plant beans just a couple of months ago. What an adventure!
i had forgotten about him — were there still pirates on the mississippi by the time the paddle wheeler was steaming up and down?
one they will benefit from all of their lives. betcha those boys grow up loving home grown veggies and teach their children to love them too…
I can’t say. The last time I visited was 1986, when we went back for a family funeral. We were admittedly well beyond three-sheets while dining and dancing on a riverboat casino called Captain Bilbos near Memphis, and if it had come up then, the details would have been understandably… murky.
I know! Isn’t it great to hand down some really positive stuff. They are the cutest little boys…..I was watching a PBS thing on bears, and I just had to laugh because my little grandbaby boys are truly like little bear cubs. They are such fun.
Hi Dearie. If you ever get the chance, take your brother out to the SB beach on a Sunday; veterans for peace in SB sets up crosses once a month (called Arlington West). They were supposed to set up this Sunday, but a check on their website indicates they postponed it to July 22nd.
perhaps the 19th century is when the pirates became gentlemen gamblers on those riverboats
America: remake yourself into anything you like…
Mitt believes: from corporate raider to populist.
go figure
Now they reside on Wall Street…! ;-)
Been there several times. I was moved …. every time.
oregon’s secretary of state approved the legalization of marijuana measure for the novemmber ballot – to be sold and taxed in stores similar to the way alcohol is done… wonder how long it will take holder and the doj to state their opposition to the ballot measure
I hope you all pass the measure…..but look out! Obama and Holder comin’ your way. One of the reasons I’d like to …. oh, well…….you know.
yeah — states rights matter but only for causes the wh and doj like.
Not long, I suppose.
Does not Hillary walk the line laid out for her by the President?
Do not all federal agencies under the wing of the Executive branch act similarly?
I don’t know if Obama liked getting high in his youth, but nowadays it’s purely political. I don’t see the DOJ as unresponsive to his political needs, whether or not he hits a spleef once in a while.
We really need Janet Reno right now.
I come from a “mixed” family…..we’ve got our liberals, our radicals, our neo-cons, our libertarians……we cover the map. No one…..No one! … is happy about the politicians we are left with. Pretty dismal, really.
Well, at least Obama’s DoJ doesn’t have to bother itself with banksters and fraudsters and such. Go for the prey that he promised he would leave alone. And I should vote for him why?????
same here — i like that description — a mixed family
*sigh*
*nuther sigh*
Too.Busy.Running.The.Cheney.Playbook.
Who, besides Obama, said you should?
Yes. Only been there once in March 07 when it was up for Sat (a candlelight deal) and Sun, got to help set up and light candles. Very emotional.
sorry for fading early tonight peeps. thanks for letting me spend some time with ya tonight — hope to see ya tomorrow nite for cartoons
g’nite all
nite suz
me too
You know, back in the Vietnam era, guys didn’t get a choice (except to go to Canada….which my then boyfriend did), but nowadays, young men and women get choices. I want to say, come on down to California and get a job at In-N-Out Burger and you’ll get better than minimum wage and feel proud of the product you put out and you won’t have to give up your ability to breed.
And people will treat you nice.
Suz, you keep shooting me into EPU-land…………can’t keep up with you. But sleep well, hon…….and exercise easily. Little by little.
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
G’nite Suz, sweet dreams. refresh here is really slow tonight, having trouble keeping up.
think I’m gong to call it a night. Good nite, Dearie. Nite everyone.
Good morning, pups. This morning we have Mr. Blow and Ms. Collins. Mr. Nocera is off today. Mr. Blow, in “What a Tangled Web,” says the truth about Mitt Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital and the mystery surrounding his wealth may be too slippery and technical for voters to process. That may well be so, but I think most voters can grasp the concept that you can tell when Mittens is lying. It’s when his lips are moving. Ms. Collins peers into “Mitt’s Political Vortex” and says this has not been a great stretch for Mitt Romney. If we ever get our heads around Higgs boson, we might be able to understand Romney’s résumé.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got French toast made with cinnamon bread. It’s already 77°, so I’m going to hustle my butt out to the front and weed some before the sun really gets going. Have a great day.
