Ella Mae Morse with Freddie Slack and His Orchestra — Cow Cow Boogie.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how’s everyone doing tonight?
Hey! Here is my fav song.
Hi, Suz. Have you recovered from recent PT?
Cool and foggy here in the ‘nard. Nice walk with my pal. Nice day. No complaints…….as long as I stay away from politics!
this tune was the first release by capitol records and also was their first million dollar seller
hey ce — how’s cleveland tonight?
hey dearie — how far did ya walk? was it along the beach? my neighbor on the right told me today that i looked like i was walking a lot better. made my day :) i told him that i had spent yesterday recovering from pt but today it was feeling better.
My friend and I have been walking together 2 or 3 times a week for over 10 years. We walked at my beach and through my neighborhood for most of that time, but she and her husband recently moved about 5 miles away. Now I drive over to her house and we walk through her neighborhood. If we get a heat spell (haven’t had one this summer!), then she’ll head west to my area by the ocean. We walk about 50 minutes on average. And talk, talk, talk. It’s great for exercise and for catching up. We keep a pretty aggressive pace.
i’ve been doing driveway laps — tis 44 steps from the end of the porch to the street and another 44 back again. today i ventured down the street two houses and then came back to the driveway — that’s when my neighbor made the comment. when i get to when i can go further, i hope to find a walk buddy to talk with.
evening, Suzzz — ltns — how are you?
hey ppd — how’s monterey bay tonight?
Good evening, Suz and llners! We have been having a little rain regularly, what we call the “monsoon season.” So glad to hear the p/t is working, Suz!!
I finished my tile project! I know what the impetus was, you were asking Suz. It is kind of pathetic, but a few months back I found a Garnet Hill bedspread and shams for $12, perfect condition, at a thrift store. When I get the whole look a little more finished, I’ll put up some photos. I have not had a bedspread I was excited about since college when I had some woven thing from India that I liked a lot. Anyway, it is not my dream bedspread, but I like it.
Now the other area of the loft needs some kind of floor finish. . .the whole thing was carpeted once, but it was wool carpet and moths got into it, so I cut it up and threw it away, and it has been bare plywood with random cat spit-up for a long time. . .then covered with all the furniture from the other side of the loft where the tile was going to go.
warm days, cool nights — the usual, Suzzz. How’s everything in your locale tonight?
hey bg — yay!!! i know how doing one project around the house can lead to more projects — i can’t wait to see your pics when they are up. what’s the color scheme?
warm days and warm nights. today was the 10th day in a row for 80′s and its been 10 days since its rained. 7 day forecast is sunny and dry. i’m missing those cool nights on the coast but it is cooler tonight (62) than it was last night at this time (71)
BTW: My friend and her mother are going for a couple of days to Morro Bay for their first ever Mother/Daughter adventure. Anybody got any information on special things besides looking at otters and sea lions?
how far from the coast now, Suzzz?
iirc mary mac used to live down there — do you have her email? if not, you can send me an email and i’ll forward it to her — suzanne at firedoglake dot com
Your town is on the river, though, am I correct, Suz?
Thanks, Suz. I do have her email and will send her a quick note.
i’m 70 miles east on highway 30 from astoria but i’m in the north -south stretch of the columbia river about 15 miles south of rainer (where the river hooks a left and resumes east/west flow) so i figure i’m about 50 or so miles — tis a 2 hour drive from here to tillamook
the columbia — this weekend is the maritime festival
sweet — i thought ya did but wasn’t sure….
close to the mighty columbia — sounds great!
more ella mae — rock me all night long
I took all the vintage clothes to sell, got a total pittance for them, kind of makes me sick because the mark up is staggering. I could have got more if I had a garage sale, but it is gone, and I am glad.
The tile looks like slate kind of, grey/blackish with black grout. That grout was a LOT of work to clean up, but the floor looks good. It was hard work, I did it all myself. Long hard days. But it is finished.
The bedspread is bright reddish orange with white stitched concentric circles. My dream is to make a bedspread like these. Someday.
I am utterly charmed that you found such an interesting town to settle in. I know that you are going to have amazing adventures and meet such interesting people. Enjoy!
can’t see it from here — i’m about a mile or so from the river. can’t see the mts from my house either :(
wow, those are great bedspreads. black grout — looks pretty but yeah, what a bitch to clean up. i bet it is stunning with the tile and your bedspread really pops against it.
Me too! One of these days I am going to make a trip to the NW.
I’m sure that you can FEEL it, Suzzz — that’s a massive water flow & ecosystem.
thanks dearie — i’m pretty amazed too. no view but i have great neighbors and am learning more about the columbia river communities. each one of the 3 has something going on this weekend – maritime here, scappoose has the pow-wow, and rainer has rainer days.
Will you be able to get out to any of the festivities, Suz? Or just to the neighbor’s sidewalk? This has really been a long road for you.
its so pretty up here. i like the rain and don’t like the hot so i’m a good fit — unlike my mother and sister who love living in the desert and enjoy the heat
Hey, I put the 100 riffs up on my FB after you posted it, Suz. That was super, loved it!
i’m still learning the weather patterns etc. only been here 6 weeks but, so far, st helens has been a wee bit cooler than pdx and the burbs during this dry spell.
One of my daughters lived in Corvallis, OR for several years. It was divine! She married in an herb garden (nursery) with her friends and her husband’s friends camping in the meadow. Wonderful! Planked salmon cooked for hours near a wood fire in preparation for the celebration…..salad with flowers from the gardens. It was all just fabulous. And I rented a 24 ft. RV and drove out to the garden and parked and stayed over. Night sky was unbelievable! I love, love, love Oregon.
I started riding again in May, Suzzz — after nearly four years.
i don’t think i’m up for that much walking yet. that one trip to the fred meyer store (about an hour walking around inside) proved i’m not as far along as i wanna be. getting better and stronger each day but not as able-bodied as i would like to think i am :)
I like those! Glad you got such a lot done.
Hi Suz, good to hear how much progress you’ve made.
I’ve only been through there once back in the late 70s with a couple of friends. We drove through. It was lovely, but we did not hang anywhere, just drove through, kind of camping, as I recall.
Hey, Margot. How’s it with you?
sweet! so glad ya liked it bg — i try to find a variety of musical styles to post and try to mix it up. tonight’s song appealed to me because its a mix of country, 40′s pop, jazz, and boogie and i love the line He was raised on locoweed
I just got a new kitchen throw rug, bright and colorful. Cheers the place up a lot.
hiya margot
the people are sooooo nice up here too dearie — you need to do another rv trip up here
woohoo!!! that’s wonderful ppd — what got ya riding again?
hey margot — how’s the wilds of ohio tonight?
No telling where it leads, Margot! lol, first a throw rug, next you might be inspired to do something big. . .
I’d love to. I’d never driven a real RV….. got minimal instruction, but did just fine. It worked out, too, because I ended up hauling the plates and glasses that were rented for the dinner….and the cases of wine which I’d bought at a vineyard just outside of Corvallis. The newlyweds took the leftovers to the beach (newport?) with their friends after all the grownups left. My daughter said they all laughed that they’d never sat on a beach while drinking really good wine. That daughter and her husband now have 3 kids and are in the thick of ‘real life’!
new kitchen rugs are on my list — something colorful and bright and fun as well as a little bit of color for the kitchen window
wake up call from lipid blood panel
I’ve been cleaning, that’s big!
i think you were wise going with a 24 ft’er — some of those rv’s are huge — more than 40 ft and ya need all kinda specialized training. i’ve always wanted to get a nice little midsized rv and drive all over the country seeing all the sights i’ve not seen before
Well i think people mostly have power back. My vet said they were out for 10 days, and it was a pain, but “at least we didn’t have a tree in our house.” Gotta look at the bright side. Or move where the weather is less crazy:)
Hi PPD
i used to avoid sunshine – until i was told my bones were crap and that i was vit d deficient. those wake up calls can be quite motivating
I’ve been trying to eat vitamins every day recently since they say my calcium and Vit D are low. I try to remember to do it, but I just don’t ever really manage to get into a routine. I guess if they said I would die if I didn’t get with the program, I would get with it.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! Just got home from GA…!
Today’s the Stones’ Golden Anniversary…! ;-)
If I ever do this again, I’m gonna take a really good (and hunky!) auto mechanic with me. I don’t know anything about keeping a truck in good working order, and I would have felt more comfortable with some help. Fortunately, I didn’t have any problems, but….. it felt risky.
Well, the news was good — everything was within norms except my lipids, so I returned to eating better and riding 100 to 150 miles each week.
blacksmith blues
Hiya CT
every week, i fill my days of the week pill thingie and make sure i put my vitamins etc in for each day. otherwise, i forget them.
Aloha, PPD…!
The Stones Golden…….wow…..time flies……and all that.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? ohmystars, i’m feeling old — the stones have been around for 50 forking years….
nice to have someone to spell ya driving too — especially on some of the areas of the oregon coast that have a lotta hairpin turns :)
Jeez, what a difference a few decades makes! I used to think this type of music was “old and in the way”.
Now the musicians look so young and fresh and into their art…………
Thanks, Suzanne. What a kick.
how hard has it been to get back into riding shape after that long break?
hey openhope — how’s the sound tonight? so glad ya like it
razzle dazzle
Keeping with tonite’s C&W theme… Far Away Eyes…
sorry pups but i’m sliding horizontal again and my typo to word ratio is all outta whack …. thanks for letting me spend part of your evening with ya tonight
g’nite all
Pleasant dreams, Suzanne…….and other late later nighters.
I was surprised — started in May with some indoor trainer spins, an hour at a time, then 30 to 40 mile rides. In less than a month, I was up to 65 miles. Lots of residual conditioning, I guess, from so many years of riding.
Sweet dreams, Suz…! A great selection tonite…!
I’m into Razzle Dazzle. It’s a very strange music venue…pop/country?
Sleep tight!
Sweet dreams, Suzanne. Thanks for the weird music selection I would never have heard.
I really like Ella’s macha, she’s a strong woman!
night, Suzzz – be well
Dayam, 65 miles is half the distance of the Bike ride leg of an Ironman meet…! ;-)
Now that I’m in decent shape, signed up for the Marin Century in early August. Began my hill training this week for that ride.
Best of luck to ya, PPD…! ;-)
Thanks, CT — it will be a big event — 50th anniversary of the Marin Century.
I lack the proper motivation to Start me up…! ;-)
:)
Aloha, M’dear…! How’s the Sound tonite…?
And yet you are so loyal to the GA. I have not been going, too much work to do lately. But I am ready for actions, for sure.
There’s always the activation challenge, getting over the hump to where it’s easier to exercise than not.
Aloha, bg, it is my duty to attend them weekly…! I’ve missed maybe a handful of them since we’d started last October…! ;-)
night all – be well
Best of luck, PPDCUS.
I fantasize about garden sculpting contests, taking 1/2 acre and turning it into a productive food source.
I imagine the announcers as talking softly while the contestants dig dirt, fertilize dirt, shape dirt, plant dirt, water dirt.
The good part is when plants take off and grow in mid summer . Then it takes a wet tee shirt to work the fields or fight the heat in more appropriate garb.
Probably thinking TOO far outside the box…………………
Thank you SO much for the strong attitude of commitment. It’s all our duty and it’s hard to maintain. You are strong, CTuttle.
Pleasant dreams, PPD…!
It is a collaborative effort, open…! Yesterday, my RW rag actually published a fellow Occupier’s excellent rant… Get up, Stand up…
A rant well said!
I got a wild hair to do a local ACLU-Wa fundraiser. It was an incredible experience and one that not only connected our local people but connected us into the ACLU people in a community way. Now, they are us- in real time, real people energy.
(freed from the filters by suz)
My comment just disappeared. And it was frigging brilliant! Excellent rant. We can’t afford the luxury of keeping our voices to ourselves.
It’s time to speak up.
…It’s time to speak up.
It’s well past the time to speak up, even…! ;-)
We’ve had a run of bad luck on attracting sociopaths[ that's the polite term, fuckin' psychos is the "common" phrase] to our neck of the woods this year.
Now we’ve got a new one. A man “Too rich to be messed with” just parked and dumped a shitty barge on our tide flats. On the barge is a diesel tanker truck filled with fuel. We’re fucked. These are the eel grass beds that the dungeness crab need to spawn.
Another motherfucker comes from out of the blue and shits in our community. Its starting to look like a pattern!
He’s too powerful to fuck with, supposedly. He pulled the same stunt in Penn Cove, Wa and threatened the mussel beds.
Cheaper to dump and run when the local boys are in your pocket.
I miss the days of believing Government Agencies would be on this like a good citizen.
Dedicating the 99 to Suz… Honky Tonk Woman… She was probably at that ’69 Hyde Park jam too…! ;-)
Edit: The century mark instead…!
…I miss the days of believing Government Agencies would be on this like a good citizen.
So do I, open, So do I…! 8-(
Dude, I got the 99 on a righteous rant!! By accident.
I bow down and give Suz’s the beloved 100.
great song, by the way.
If she was in attendance, open, it was definitely a killer concert… Sympathy… I was too young and about a thousand miles due North at the time…! ;-)
I was young and thought Jethro Tull was the Everything!
Goodnight, CTuttle. Sweet dreams.
Too bad you and your SO can’t find a garden patch to co-op. It just seems like a natural!
Not that you ever said you were looking for a garden patch…..:)
night
*heh* the Grateful Dead was my thing…! ;-)
This is the solution to what ails us these daze… Public Ownership…
With that I shall bid ya a fond adieu, Ma Cheri…! ;-)
