About Firedoglake
Mornin’, pups
Thanks for the great links, SD.
Thanks, SD. The ‘ruling military junta’ just doesn’t accept that it can’t buy the votes and get a face of its choice. Seems like they also can’t frighten Parliament out of showing up.
The military vs the Muslim Brotherhood. Now who could have POSSIBLY seen this coming ? /snark
Romney and Education…shall we say oxymoron? Not so nice, I guess.
Ed Gillespie would like to help Rmoney frighten “teh blacks” out of showing up. Bloviating on Morning Joe this morning about what a nice reasonable guy his buddy Willard is compared to that liberal socialist kenyan yadda yadda.
Meanwhile, Willard is zipping around the West blowing furiously on his dogwhistle. Does he have a custom carrier for that on top of his jet like I could do on my car for my kayak? (No, kayak is not the name of my dog.)
(edit: must remember to hit reply button…to sto@3)
Poor guy. That would be the LAST way I would choose to end it all.
Good Morning, SouthernDragon and all Morning Pups
Continued respect for all the work you do to provide links for us and for your caring.
Good morning, SD and fellow DFHs.
Here is a nice piece of chutzpah:
The modern American corporation is a device for the executives, lawyers and investment bankers to extract value from shareholders, employees, retirees and communities.
Morning all. Thanks for the Carlin clip, SD. The “conservative”, aka fascist, in the clip tried to dominate and filibuster the discussion as usual.
Suicide by police action is worse.
No shit. I can’t imagine he thought he could get in there and pet ‘em.
I wanted to use a clip involving god, the Bible, rights and privileges but there are some real people of faith here and I couldn’t bring myself to link to it.
You can count on more aggressive, outrageous austerity until it is countered by something equally outrageous and aggressive.
A sensitive and wise decision.
Good morning, Dinerzens!
I am SO stealing that one!! (h/t to Prairie Sunshine!)
Morning, all. One of the few times that I have gotten to the intertoobz when there has been fewer than 150 comments at the Diner. I try to read them, but I get pressed for time. I’ll be off again soon.
Actually the statement could be revised to “has been for nothing.”
Carlin:
…and this was in 2005! He could have said it yesterday!
It certainly could be. Like if it resembled the scene in Godfather where Sonny took about 500 rounds at the toll both.
sadly, Obama has made it easier for the owners.
He said that stuff for 40 years and it’s still fresh and true today. Dude was a genius.
The scene in jaws where the Robert Shaw character gets swallowed by the shark has always terrified me.
There’s probably a political metaphor to be made there…
Yeah, we know THAT wasn’t suicide.
I’m trying to decide whether there is any difference between having a Politburo that runs a state corporation or a corporatist cabal that appears to dictate Politburo policy.
I’m thinking not since the effect is the same.
Carlin:
However, the tipping point may be near.
Robert Shaw was so good in that movie. His speech on The Indianapolis was the best part IMHO.
But my VERY favorite line of Carlin’s:
Good Morning. Are you back at the farm?
Morning SD & Pupses:
A first-rate Q&A with Gretchen Morgenson. Go here.
Carlin on rights:
Here is an excellent article in Mother Jones documenting Romney personally investing tens of millions of dollars in a Chinese company that publicly acknowledged that its strategy was to profit from prominent US companies outsourcing production abroad.
We call that arbitrage, OG. It’s the American way.
And you know what? They do a damn good job at it. Who says Americans have lost the spirit of enterprise?
On William James’s pragmatic test, since the consequences are the same, there is no difference.
Heh, even HuffPo linked to the article instead of trying to make it their own.
Re: the tiger story – it’s possible, I don’t know how, for people to think very crazy stuff about wild animals. Wildlife refuges are deluged with lions and tigers given by (or taken from) people who thought that these animals would be tame if raised from cubs, or could safely be kept in their basements as pets. I suspect teevee plays a big role in fostering these delusions.
Good morning SD and Pups (sorry for the belated greeting). There was a nice little article in this morning’s paper about an apple farmer who is renting out individual trees to anyone who wants the apples from them. Apples to be delivered to your doorstep by FedEx. At $75 per tree it strikes me as a bit pricey, but I suppose you get a lot of apples from one tree. Could make a good gift for Christmas. Certainly beats the pet rock.
I suspect
teeveestupidity plays a big role in fostering these delusions.I had to make a little change. Hope that’s okay.
Anything’s possible but we’ll prolly never know in this case. That said, if the poor guy had a thought disorder, eg schizophrenia, there’s no tellin’ what the voices were tellin’ him. I’ve seen ‘em do some strange shit.
Considering the cost includes delivery by FedEx, which ain’t cheap, may not be such a bad deal.
This particular story is even worse than that. It is not an example of the ” American Way,” but the “Bermuda Way.”
Hooray for Finland! Hooray for Scandos ( except Sweden).
I….just….don’t….get…..it. Why do the master want so many unemployed, hungry people? Don’t they know people get irritable when they’re hungry?
I still say they’ve got something up their sleeves other than reducing the world population to abject poverty thru austerity. And I can’t believe the righties, stuck in “it will never happen to me think” are running after the collapse of THIS society as well.
What do they think it in it for THEM? They’re losing their home sand jobs just like liberals are.
Perhaps it’s the “group think” fostered by so many years of TEEVEE and movies that has just turned them into blind followers of anyone who shouts loudest.
This alpha baboon troop mentality is sure not serving our species well at all.
So strange to watch us fall from being somewhat better people to where we are now.
I believe and the science prove it out that TEEVEE rots your brain. I suspect they’ve been using subliminals on us for years as well.
There’s this study that boys are less aggressive if they merely READ some instead of sitting in front of that boob tube.
Give me a good book any day to a spoon fed direct feed into my brain
That’s what Jefferson said. He’s right.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 2,040
Afghan, Iraki, Yemeni and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 2M
US MBS 2012: 23,932 and counting
No war but class war
Oh Well
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Never. Give. Up.
It’s is already here. Congress must respond to the needs of the governed, from which government derives it’s just and moral power. Otherwise it illegitimate! Corporate money has screwed America just as Jefferson predicted.
Americans have options now, don’t we?
Can’t resist cute.
Spain is just plain fucked. I wonder why there is not a revolution there. shows to go you how far you can screw over the people and get away with it. Romney’s your man!!!
77 people were injured by police during riots there yesterday. There is a revolution, it’s just not being televised.
you think they will accomplish anything? I heard someone on TV say how nice it was there that the cafes were doing a great business and that those who were working were quite content, which was the majority. If they are really rebelling it will restore my faith in people.
Morning, folks.
Loving the 73-degree weather this morning. Fully 32 degrees lower than this time last week.
Photos of Spanish miners strike show huge numbers of people in the streets. Photos of Mexico’s continued protests against PRI shenanigans show thousands in the streets.
Guitarmy’s arrival in NYC brings out an equal or greater number of aggressive NYPD.
What’s the difference? The Murdoch empire and the Wall Street Media. Until the media iron curtain is shattered, us Youessians ‘r toast.
Corporations always were.
In a way we have the same problem here. Jobs get outsourced to low wage countries that works to lower our average pay here. But there are still enough people who make enough to buy ipads and such that are made in slave mills in China. Someone (Bill Mitchell) wrote that the average pay for a man has not changed (in real terms) since the seventies. We keep outsourcing everything and driving down the average pay. Yet we have twenty five million who want jobs. When does the revolution get here? We just love these “free” markets where our jobs go so we can improve the rest of the world.
OT, but relative to yesterday’s Diner comments about Penn State and JoePa. I still get occasional stuff from the Chronicle of Higher Education (even though I’ve been retired nearly two years) and this just arrived over the electronic transom. Thought some pups might be interested.
The Freeh Report: Penn State’s Crisis in Leadership
Ooof. I needed da cyoot break!
Spain has a fighting chance to rebel against the neoliberal Eurocratic austerity cabal. Solidarity with the Spanish peeps.
No one expects the Spanish Revolution. Heh.
Thanks msmolly. The buggering of children.
Whyever would any white man with any kind of power think he would NOT get away with it? Children have no power. Just like the non-elite get buggered every day and the powerful don’t blink an eye…and many non-elites express willful blindness. Something’s gotta change, please God/Goddess/Universal Consciousness.
Actually scratch that “white man” part….any “powerful person” would fit the bill
I’ve downloaded the full report. Remains to be seen whether I will read it all, but I will at least skim through it. And you are so right about “powerful person” — they get to play by different rules than the rest of us.
Well, ms molly, as long as you brought up the Freeh Report on Penn State (and mind you, many of my classmates from the high school I graduated from went to PSU, plus a few family members..mother’s side is all Pennsylvania), I heard some highlights this morning. The part that struck me most is from interviews with janitors.
Several of them, if I heard right, witnessed horrible scenes with Sandusky and boys, but were certain they would be fired if they reported that, that the university would circle the wagons around him. They were absolutely right, I’m sure.
I sure bought the myth of Joe Paterno’s high integrity for years. I’m sure my mother is stunned, if not in denial. Not something I’ve discussed with her.
Yes, me, too. Something about that one: I just put it on my desktop as the background. So sweet!
I know!
Quiet around here today.
