Alex Chadwick — 100 Riffs (A Brief History of Rock N’Roll).
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how’s everyone doing tonight?
h/t to dakine for tonight’s video
Hey, Suzanne, lots of laughing and philosophizing down on Lisa’s page.
How’s your settling in going?
Hi everyone. love the video.
Hi Suzanne.
Wussup?
yikes — what a little hiccup there…. sorry for the delay – took forever for the page to load.
i let the tech crew know
Page loading slow – Suz will be here
PS: FDL is having quite some trouble loading tonight…..don’t know why. All my other sites pop right up, but FDL labors. It’s not that we don’t care, Suz! Are you loading okay?
hey dearie — how ya been?
Remember my cat hoarder tale of woe? Good news, or long story short, I’ve had to start trapping them but it appears the cats are adoptable. Yeah!!!
My hope was they would be adoptable, my fear was they would all be feline HIV positive and put down or too diseased/compromised to bother with.
hey bev — isn’t that great! glad ya like it — dakine shared it with me last week and i thought ya’ll would enjoy it
how’s dc tonight?
Bev, the Book Salons are terrific…..even if some of us (sorry!) get a little snappish now and then. So pleased that you can set up these read and meets!
hey ecahn — hows new york state tonight?
was hiccuping earlier but seems to have settled down — i let the tech crew know about it
yikes — i don’t like it when the site won’t load – so frustrating!
hey tuez – how’s florida? adoptable!!! woohoo *one legged snoopy happy dance*
You sound chipper! Hope things are going well. Are you enjoying your charming new town?
Wuzzup Suzanne et al?
Hi, Hope things are going well on the west coast. Yesterday the heatwave was finally broken. Rained hard all evening, news said 2.5 inches in several hours, cars in DC are floating, and power outages. After my power outage last week (Fri – Tue) and living in a hotel at Dulles airport, I’m ready for “normal”weather.
Fab weather. Low 80s daytime, 60s at night. What’s not to like?
i’m well drugged. my pt session today was a scheduled twice as long session and she decided my inner thigh muscles need to be stronger.
ouch
i am enjoying st helens and its neighboring town scappoose. starting to sorta learn my way around – found what grocery store to go for which items and most importantly of all, which is my drive up coffee shack.
Thanks. Some salons have been “intense” lately, I feel bad when we don’t really talk about the book. Have some good salons coming.
tis a very pleasant 71 outside — high today was in the mid 80′s. hazy smoggy air tho — don’t like that. got spoiled by the clear air at the coast. hope it cools off more – i prefer sleeping when its cool
God you DCer’s are whoosies. One town in Floridaze got 28 inches out of TS Debbie in 24 hours. Don’t ask for a link but I saw it on the national nooze.
jeebus, do ya think those fools in dc are getting a message about not fucking with mother nature?
I’ve actually been impressed with how “restrained” some of the recent book salons have been, the one in question notwithstanding.
sounds pretty sweet ecahn — the humidity is ok?
67 now.
Think it’s about beddy bye time so a good night to all.
i’m looking forward to dial m for murdoch – that’s a great book!
g’nite ecahn
What a cool music vid! Was just going to skim and goto bed, but had start playing it…starting off w/ Mr. Sandman…whee!
How many of us are old enough to remember that”Pipeline”is not about the oil biz?
Great choice, Suze. Hope your inner thigh muscles come up to specs soon!
I think it will be good, unreleased information on the investigation and written by a member of Parliament too. Spocko is Hosting on Sunday.
hey tejan — its rather long but yeah, it just hooks ya into watching and seeing what song comes next. the ‘more info’ on the utube has a list of the songs as does the link under alex’s name. so glad ya liked it.
how’s tx tonight?
I do understand that. I also understand that our FDL folks don’t want to be a cheering squad for someone’s book and really want to engage with the writer. I understand folks (oldgold, eg.) who want to just ‘do the book’…. but I also understand folks who want to engage with the author. It’s a push-pull. The best moderators/hosts are those who can keep bringing up questions about the book while also allowing some leeway for engaging the author. Whatever. The best salons are the ones where the author just jumps in and engages enthusiastically. I trust (should I?) that they are well informed about what FDL is about and that their active responses will lead to a satisfying Salon.
Ooh…I hear the rain starting up outside — third night in a row!
No thunder, but the kitty who was waiting for me in the hallway just took off to hide in the bedroom, same way he does with thunderstorms. Rain itself is pretty loud right now. Imagine, I’ve had to use my umbrella both yesterday and today.
sweet! spocko is a great host — he’s hosted before iirc. by the end of the book, i was so pissed that the whole lot hadn’t been thrown in jail and i know that it was not isolated to the uk. its systemic in the entire murdoch organization — everyone looking for dirt on everyone to use to accomplish their goals – whether its news or politics. dayam, everyone from the prime minister down was terrified of murdoch
rain is good, right? no thunder is very good for pups and kittahs – hope he’s not predicting thunder by taking off like that
h-oh, eyes starting to close of their own weight. Better go to bed..should be a good sleeping night. Good night, all!
g’nite tejan
I dunno about predicting…spose it could mean there is thunder so far away that I can’t hear it but he can. Or just that rain is so rare lately that they’ve come to associate the sound of rain with the sound of thunder. Who knows? I know them pretty well, but there is much mysterious about the feline mind.
and now, to all a good night!
A good salon has “tension” and a discussion of the facts/book.
Yes, I do prep the guests on the chat procedures and what FDL is, most know FDL and ask to be here. I tell them we are adults (older, politically active) and we agree to disagree and discuss the facts. No personal attacks are allowed. Most authors really enjoy the discussions and learn new things from us too.
enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the rain tejan
I’m just hopeful that some of them will take back to Obama LLC the disaffection of some of us who worked for him. I know Obama isn’t answering my emails! I love the Book Salons and schedule my weekends around them… and mostly lurk but comment when I just have to!
Nothing says summer in America quite like baseball, hot dogs, warm beer and B2 Stealth bombers doing a flyby.
MLB All Star Game 2012
Perfection, huh?!
john dean is my all time fav — he comes back after the salon and answers every question — even when its his birthday and his wife had to drag him away for cake. i think he really gets fdl and loves that back and forth
Couldn’t get a comment in sideways with Press last weekend.
hey coach — how’s houston tonight? baseball should be about baseball, not stealth bombers flying overhead…
So, Suzanne, what are some of the specialties you are finding in your darling new town? I so enjoyed your settling into your last place…. and the views. This time I think you are going to have interesting neighbors. I look forward to hearing about them.
Yes and James Galbraith spent his birthday with us last time too.
Let me know next time and I’ll hold them back for you to jump in. (grin) Thank you for participating.
x2.
If Obama had just done what we had projected onto him, even if not true, his reelection would have been a no-brainer.
But he is truly a rebug.
On edit: I’ll leave that typo.
this weekend is ‘maritime heritage festival’ or something like that. down in old town along the river and marina — guess some big boats will be in town. plus the scappoose pow wow is happening this weekend down in scappoose and i heard there is something going on up the road 10 miles in rainer. the columbia river communities are hopping this summer.
i’ve not made it to a farmer’s market yet — st helens is down by the riverfront in old town. no view from the house :( once i get strong enough to walk more than 3 or 4 laps in the driveway, i hope to go exploring on foot and take pictures.
my neighbors are great! i scored huge brownie points last night when i called the market in old town by its old name instead of the new one – was told i was starting to sound like a local
did he? dayam, how did i miss that little bit of trivia…. how forking kewl!!!
hell, if obama had just done half of what he said he was gonna do it, would be a no-brainer.
It sounds lovely! I feel certain that you will enjoy your time there…. much to learn about, much to see.
Actually, I think if he had just done 000000000000.1%, he’d be a shoe in.
Thank you for letting me stop by. Have a great week. Bedtime here – 2am.
Houston has been wet. Not a lot of inches but overcast enough to moderate temperatures.
From Wikipedia:
You got it! I do enjoy your pizzazz!
yup — such a disappointment to so many people
g’nite bev
I really didn’t have anything to add but I think there were over 300 comments.
The best part was the other guy’s blog the next day.
each hour of flight requires 119 hours of maintenance??? holy moly
Actually, that is what pissed me off the most about last weekends book salon: the holding his feet to the fire meme. Jesus H Christ, how much more could we have his feet been held to the fire? He doesn’t give a rat’s ass cause he’s in the 0.1%
And we have to let poor people die in the streets…..yeah, because they won’t work hard enough…..yeah, because they are slackers…. and, yeah, well just yeah.
We will be in the streets eventually, with pitchforks and flares ….sooner, in my opinion, the better!
Reminds me of those Russian parades through Red Square they used to show to scare us when I was a kid.
Funny how those Russian woman are no longer so ugly. And I’m a straight chick.
“We will be in the streets eventually, with pitchforks and flares ….sooner, in my opinion, the better!”
Keep talking like that and we may get to know each other in one of those “We don’t no stinking Habeas Corpus” FEMA camps.
i had 3 f-18′s flying over the columbia river the morning of the 4th — they were hitting a buncha town parades with low fly over’s and were heading to the coast. i flashed back to those black and white scenes on the teevee when i was kid of those russian parades.
i knew they were gonna be doing it since i read about it the night before – they were going all over oregon and the timetable was printed for each flyover. still….
The fat and ugly ones died out. The pretty ones sold out. Capitalism came to Russia!
“….how those Russian woman are no longer so ugly.”
Ever seen the Paul McCartney in Red Square video? Plenty of good lookin’ gals in the audience.
remember this?
I’ll be the old broad who actually knows how to build a fire and trench the tent. See you there!
Do you have a complete you tube index in your head?
“Trenching” is a violation of “Leave no Trace.” We don’t do that anymore.
We all seem to remember the USSR the same way.
*laughing* no where near that but sometimes i just get lucky when my synapses are firing random trivia
When your sleeping bag is soggy, mine will be just as my grandma taught me. Untrenching is an art….. god loves the artist, dontcha know?
I gotta go to bed.
Love you guys.
PS: My foot is still broke.
I missed that you broke your foot. Be well. Heal. Sleep helps.
the way our gov’t wanted us to think about them at the time — i remember the first time i saw a russian fashion show or beauty pageant or similar get coverage on the tv and was amazed that they looked just like us — not monsters, not ugly, not scary — just like us.
g’nite tuez — hope your foot feels better soon (((tuez)))
When I was a kid and we were taught to trench a tent, the tents did not have floors. Put an air mattress in a modern floored tent and you and the whole mess could float away in a stiff rain.
Air mattress? What is an air mattress? Where do you camp? (joking)
the only time i enjoy camping is when it is indoors and involves room service
ok peeps, am starting to fade. thanks for letting me spend time with ya tonight
g’nite all
Sweet dreams, Suz…! Just got back from our candidates’ forum…! ;-)
