Hi, CTut, how’s your paradise? As I mentioned below, we’re having more June gloom here in south central California…..and I am not complaining. As a former resident of Chicago and Cincinnati, I’m comfortable with a cool summer.
Aloha CT!
Tonight is lovely. Yesterday was so deadly, we hid in the house after a late afternoon movie. When I opened the doors and windows at 10 p.m. the rush of cool air was fabulous. Today, rather nice. Dinner on the porch on the west side at MsCE was lovely and breezy.
Evenin all. Sunny and 60′s today. Must say Tut that was one awesome myfdl you had goin today. I could only read it in spits an spurts but by the end of my shift i was thankful of all involved.
Mid-80s today, now 70, supposed to go down to mid-60s tonight. Maahvelous.
Bees are complicated. Try to do short version. My queens were too robust so, owing to warm spring, swarmed themselves (friends’ hive) or nearly so (mine) out of existence. While leaving hives bereft, that does mean some good colonies somewhere in nature.
Beekeeper repopulated friends’ hive with swarm from queen he knew. They are going gangbusters. I was at their pool today and checked out the hive.
My hives are struggling. One will make it on its own. The other needs more brood. Beekeeper will either bring some over from another hive, or if he captures a swarm, will add it to my weak hive.
Sorry, after such a robust start, I won’t get any honey this year, but big learning experience.
It’s a wonderful adventure. I just re-did my front yard (trees got thrip and croaked) and I made sure to put in lots of plants that bees love. It’s been almost too damp here, with all the fog…..but I’m hopeful that plants will settle in. I love the bees and the hummingbirds and am happy to give them some sweetness. Can’t help myself, but when I see all the mourning doves I just dream recipes…..”:)
I’m sure they are protected, but those doves have the chubbiest breasts and I just know they’d be delicious with a rich sauce! Since I can’t eat them, I’m glad to be able to provide them scrumptious feeding grounds.
Cahnstance has caught 3 birds by my observation, but she can’t seem to get a mourning dove, even they are strictly on the ground under the feeders. She’s working on her strategy. Has tried hunching down in the grass under feeder (doves just keep away), hunching down in front of dark rock (Cahnnie is gray striped) behind feeder & a couple of other tactics.
I think hiding out against the back drop of dark rock will eventually succeed.
We don’t seem to have many outdoor cats in my neighborhood by the beach. But I had to give up a fun bird bath because the damned crows/black birds were using it as the killing field…..scooping up lizards over on the sand dunes and then washing them and consuming them at my birdbath….and leaving me with the bones to dispose of. I don’t have a strong enough stomach to put up with much of that. But the mourning doves seem to remain unmolested, and they really are quite lovely.
Cahnstance has done her 3 jobs, and maybe acquired a 4th. She keeps the robins from nesting on the back porch, phoebes on front porch, a kept critters away from my herb garden. I planted lettuce there this year & expected bunnies to raid it, but have gotten so much that I’ve taken to stopping cars on the road & throwing in lettuce before they can complain.
I’d had a barn swallow nest in my woodshed for years. They are beautiful birds but extremely aggressive when babies are born. I don’t care so much about their poop, but would rather they nest somewhere else. Cahnstance may have scared them away. Knocked down nest after babies fledged and they haven’t come back.
It took me forever to write it because I had so much to say. If you like it please retweet it or Facebook “like it” I’m at 294 tweets and I’d love to crack 300.
Suzanne used to live in my neighborhood and so I think she can vouch for how great GG Park is and what a mistake it would be to pave over the natural grass to put in artificial turf filled with shredded toxic rubber tires.
Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise…

OMG CT I love, love the Flight of the Conchords.
We just lost our laugh line watching this show.
Aloha, Dearie…! Another mixed bag of weather here, right now it’s sticky with no trades blowing, but, like you I’m not complaining either…! ;-)
Aloha, Christine…! Are you sweltering in Ohio tonite…?
Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros…
Aloha CT!

We love, love these two musicians.
Hiya Firedogs! I have not said hello in ages.
I need to be careful and not wish for too much breezes, not with Hurricane Daniel moving into the neighborhood…!
I’m not crying…
Hi CT.
I’m still bloviating on Roundup.
Did some swimming today. Crashed after dinner. Woke up, now bright eyed & bushy tailed.
Oh CT, I saw this and loved it a few summers ago. It makes me laugh so much.
Aloha, eCAHN…! Always a pleasure to see ya…!

Robots…
Oh, so funny!
Aloha, homeroid…! Imagine my surprise when I’d woke up this morn and saw 40+ comments on it at that point, I almost dropped my cup of joe…! ;-)
Hi, eCAHN. Are you out of the heat-sweep? How are your bees holding up?
Ooh, as eCAHN noted on the Round Up, Ernest Borgnine passed away…! R.I.P…!
It seems the Flight made a Cameo appearance on The Simpsons…! ;-)
Dave’s Pearls of Wisdom…
Timing is a big help. All those folks don’t comment every day.
We never got heat as bad as midwest.

I share your attitude about mourning doves. Thought I was unique & sadistic. Glad to have your company. :-)
A little music… A Little Ray of Sunshine…

Let the Rs lead the way on their cocktail circuit.
I’m sure all the cats would agree with ya, sauce or no sauce…! ;-)

It’s a Long Way There…
Margot had posted on FB recently, that she’d certainly appreciate it if the cat had killed the mouse prior to ‘presentation’…! ;-)

Cats are still my fave pets, love dogs too, but…! ;-)
Lonesome Loser…

Time for me to turn in.
Be well everyone.
I’ve seen barn swallows take on large dogs before…! They can be mighty aggressive indeed…! Cahnstance is certainly a great cat…! ;-)
Sweet dreams, eCAHN…!
Sad Eyes…
Hi folks.
Hope you saw my piece, Paving over Golden Gate Park for fun and profit on the front page tonight.
It took me forever to write it because I had so much to say. If you like it please retweet it or Facebook “like it” I’m at 294 tweets and I’d love to crack 300.
