About Firedoglake
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…! Any time-frame for Token’s return, Suz…?
aloha tut — i’ve been thinking sometime in the next couple weeks. how’s paradise tonight?
That is great news, Suz…! ;-)
Another mixed plate, some Sun did shine thru all the clouds today…!
got up into the high 80′s here today. jen and mike came home today (mike has to work tomorrow) so i’m back in my bungalow. it did pretty good at keeping cool — staying a solid 8 to 10 degrees cooler inside than the reading of my in the shade outdoor sensor. supposed to hit the 90′s tomorrow
That oscillating fan, ya have, would be my best friend…! ;-)
turned on both the ceiling fan and the stand fan and was just fine. of course, the house had been locked up for a couple days and it still felt cooler than outside when i got home. turning on the fans was bonus cool :)
tis currently a wonderful 74 outside – i’ve got the front door open and am enjoying it
Hey Suz an all. In the 50′s today and slightly wet. Cruise ship in town full of bargain basement tourists. The fish still seem to elude us. I did not even get any good stupid quotes from tourists to pass on this week…as yet.
hey homeroid — how ya been dood? is it still early in the stupid quotes from bargain basement tourists season or is full blown bbts?
Hmmm… Quiet nite, Suz…! I’m busy making a Sheppard’s pie, I’ll pop by later, if you’re still up…! *g*
see ya then tut
Drive by just to say have a great week Pups… Off to Lake Siskiyou till Thursday… Camping with the kids and GrandKids…. But dam it has been hitting 99 during the day… Well at least the lake will be there to cool off in…..
Suzee! You’ve been house-sitting again?
And ctut—You getting too much rain over there in Paradise? wow.
And here, although it reached 97 today, the humidity must be low because it felt quite nice, at least here in the shaded house and shady backyard where I spent the day. Had I gone out in the sun I might have felt it more, but mostly, whenever I was outdoors, I just thought, my, this is a lovely summer day, much like early summer in Indiana (of my childhood, not right now, where msmolly says it’s goingover 100 every day).
Apparently, our usual weather is north and east, and even more extreme.
hey nahant — have a good time up there and bring lotsa sunscreen… does tucker like the water?
Sounds lovely, nahant!Have a nice drive, too!
hey tejan — for a couple days for jen and mike while they went to the coast. jen posted some really cute pics of jujube on facebook — turns out she just doesn’t like sandboxes — she LOVES the sand and playing with her shadow
97 — ouch. i’d be melting like the wicked witch of the west…. that’s just too dayam hot
Still sore from crashing the trike. Will start with my kinesciologist (sp) next week. Tis sad here in the hamlet for our summer. Will be a long broke winter to come. I fear for a lot of folks.
It’s about time to start harvesting wild edible mushrooms. So i have the advantage of driving all over town every day to scope for good areas to look in.
Tucker & Water??? What an oxymoron, the only water Tucker likes it what he drinks… Besides with all that hair he would sink and look just like a drowned rat after I saved his little ass….
Thanks tej it is a 5 – 6 hour drive… And with no AC Julie bought a battery operated fan than sprays a water mist… Reminds me a a trip years ago in the wine country and the old Sonoma hotel only had fans we were spraying water through it to try and stay cool… Didn’t go out to dinner till after 9 PM and were the last patrons in the restaurant. but dam it was fun…
Niters all…
is this the first year that the fish have not appeared?
g’nite nahant
Fish not appearing? Wow.
Let’s see, extreme, unpredictable weather events(can we include wildlife, like fish, in that?) What could possibly be going on?
NO. There are many factors to the abundance of salmon runs. It’s that this year the king salmon run has been lacking in a very large area. The red run is in question. And the silver run has yet to start. I feel the pollock fleet takes too much bicatch of kings and halibut and chums. But we dont know what is going on with high seas gillnet targeting. There are more questions than answers. All in all i question the ocean balance. And here i thought i could live on the abundance of the sea.
yikes — that’s not good dood. the larger the area the larger the problem. the oyster hatchery in netarts bay has been documenting a rise in ph in the ocean waters and how its forking up the shells
They are afraid of the acidity rise for many species. We will see more changes as time rolls on. This aint lookin good.
You work on walking and i will work on twisting my neck and we can be in better shape to deal with the shit down the road. My Lady.
deal dood. there be shit a’coming for sure
Are you on the Pacific or Atlantic?
Our son’s up in the Bering Sea [Dutch Harbor] and we’ve been SO curious about the run. It sounded like it was late. Who knows…..when he gets a chance to call in it’s not his old parents he calls!
A friend of a friend fishing in the Gulf of Alaska saw the largest Humpy ball he’s ever seen and he’s old time fisherman. So, I’m probably working on Salmon cake recipes………..damn.
hey openhope — how’s the sound tonight?
tis about time for me to get horizontal pups. thanks for letting hang out with ya this week. am looking forward to seeing what tut has on tap for sun and mon nites — hope to see ya there
g’nite all
Absolutely beautiful! Except we had a Coyote Day today. They’re haying the fields and the coyotes are wandering around. I have to admit I have a soft spot in my heart for coyotes. Especially now that I hope they’ll nab a fuckin’ chicken!!
Screaming chickens, too worldly to be nabbed without siccing the dogs on the coyotes. Barking dogs earning their kibbles and being allowed to run amuk on patrol. Everyone freaking going off at odd times all day. “Everyone” being the crew I hang with, fur and feathers. :)
I am in Kachemak bay on the Cook inlet. From what i hear is the Bristol bay is not doing well. MY son fishes in Prince William Sound and of course i have not heard from him as yet…such as he is. But you can get info from ADF+G herehttp://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=commercialbyareabristolbay.main
Oops – I wandered off to skim a Charlie Pierce piece or dozen, and…where did the time go? See I’ve already missed Suzanne. Way past my bedtime.
Good to “see” y’all here at LLN. Open hope – love hearing about your “fur and feathers crew,” especially the “too worldly” chickens…?
Niters, all.
Aloha, homeroid, I wonder what havoc the Fukushima tsunami debris will cause…! I think the acidity level might be the least of our worries…! 8-(
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Looks like your right. Next year our fish could be trash. I wonder why we cant get a real understanding of how much waste is flowing into the ocean. Not that what is going into the air is not a concern. I guess i will have to buy geiger counters for our buyers for next year, hell the state wont do it.
Ironically, we’re forcing our County Critters to buy air monitors for all the individuals’ within our Geothermal ‘buffer zone’ and to publish the data in real time on line, I suppose we need to force ‘em to monitor our tides too…! ;-)
That would be cool if they would monitor. Would they then tell us what was found? Me thinks it best we do what we can on our own.
Tut i nneed sleep. you be well. DFH.
