G’Morning, Pups…short day for me on this Fri, I think…TGIF. Needed.
Mornin’, pups
“IT WAS DEHUMANIZING… COMPLETELY”
—Cassandra J. (Journalism Student arrested for no particular reason at G20 Protest Toronto June 2010)
Morning everyone. 105 degrees expected in mid-Michigan today. According to Media Matters 1.6% of television coverage and 6% of all printed media suggested that the droughts, extreme heat, wildfires, frequency and strength of storms could be related to global climate change. Keeping the public in the dark is part of the corporate media’s “mandate.”
Central bank stimulus: beginning the next bubble.
Monetary easing in liquidity trap does not stimulate real growth.
Hillary had quite a rant this morning in Paris.
Good morning all and thanks for the post and host SoDrag.
Now Bluetoe, you know Media Matters IS the problem.
Here in central Texas another year of corn has died of thirst in the field. No climate change here.
Does £50bn of electronic money mean they can now buy electronic food ?
And Biblical floods (and wildfires and tornadoes and …) should make the bible thumpers happy.
Maybe FDLers should start charging emoney for the edrinks we pass around.
{e-clink !}
First segment on demcarcynow: Japanese report on Fukushima.
I basically don’t think it will matter much at all. We have banks who will not lend to people who will not borrow.
Central Banks: If you want to stimulate the economy, ignore the interest rate cuts and increase unemployment payments by $100/month. That money will be spent on consumer goods within hours of receipt, as the unemployed have many needs they’ve simply had to put off. When I got employed, the first thing I did was buy some new jeans, socks, and underware.
Swiss arms: Lemme get this straight. Syria is using artillery, aircraft, and automatic weapons against it’s people and the swiss are upset because one of those people has one of their grenades?!?
G20: There will never be accountability for those crimes. Never.
Fukushima: Reactor #1 is still having recriticality. They’ve detected radiation as high as 200 SIEVERTS in #1. Not a typo, SIEVERTS. Human exposure is normally measured in milli or micro seiverts. The melt is on the floor for sure in #1 & #2. The SPF in #4 is just waiting for the next earthquake. And Japan is busy closing the doors to the empty barns…
Climate change: Even my conservative neighbors are starting to believe. But they still think Al Gore is fat.
Boxturtle (Happy Fryday to all!)
I hadn’t picked up on the fact that Fukushima reactors were built by GE.
Linky? One of the few things I like about Hillary is her ability to rant.
Boxturtle (It must have sucked to be Chelsea with a bad report card)
The fact that it won’t spur real growth is bad enough.
But it’s the bubble part that’s really bad.
Mornin’ everyone. 103º on tap here in NW Indiana for today and tomorrow.
Hope interested Firedogs are following Masoninblue’s excellent ongoing diaries about the George Zimmerman case. Fascinating, and so well written!
I heard it on RT-tv. But if you google it, I’m sure you’ll find it.
Left you a comment in epuland.
A better question now is: Who made the concrete floors for the containment chamber and did they do the job to specs?
Boxturtle (For want of a nail…)
I don’t understand the fascination with that case. Isn’t that one of many?
And it’s all based on fear and paranoia. Irrational motivations with no good end and terribly difficult to change as it plays to ones more baser instincts.
The guest said something about the containment, but I didn’t pick it up.
It’s obvious ( to me anyway) that the boys are not being raised right. Maybe if they were made to keep their rooms clean and pick up after themselves they wouldn’t think Mother was always supposed to be there to clean up their messes.
First they put it in the ocean, now they’re putting it in the ground, they leave space debris all over when they go into space.
Yesterday, I saw some moron throw a plastic cup lid out of his car.
Make ‘em read, it’s been proven boys who read aren’t as thuggish and make them clean up after themselves and stop thinking the Earth and females are here to *feed them* wipe their butts* and pick up and wash everything they get dirty.
Make ‘em have a little more respect for the lives of others don’t give them war toys and never, ever let them hurt animals.
The reverse is true for girls(except the cleaning up part) and never, ever let them wear PINK or dye their hair blonde like Barbie

Are they insane under what conditions heat as well as chemical reaction might turn CO2 into gas suddenly? I don’t know and neither I suspect do they.
Respectfully disagree. Bubbles are not based on fear, but on lack of alternatives at zero int rates, and deliberate bubble creation by central banks to create speculation and crashes, which then provide cheap assets for 1%ers to loot.
Not the bubbles themselves, those actions that create them. But I do not think there will be a bubble because I don not think the citizens will buy into it.
Morning SD,
Any particular one of of the current Smiley and West link stories that you were most interested in? I thought (just reading each episode synopsis)that Valerie Jarrett’s saying, “President Obama has “genuine love” for Black people.” is going to be the first I bookmark and listen to. The key word remarkable to me is, “genuine,” linked with our POTUS.
It’s not the citizens who create bubbles, it’s the MOTUs.
I mean if someone or some entity that wasn’t sending any money my way for a while all of a sudden began to send bunches of it my way, I would be even more suspicious of their motives.
But then that’s paranoid, cynical suspicious me.
Got it, responded.
Boxturtle (how dare you disagree with me?!? Do you not mind looking foolish? /s)
Read it.
The one that caught my eye was the caller who berated Smiley for buying into Dr West’s extremism. Dude ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Union Theological is a hotbed of activism for the poor, etc. Methinks West is gonna be Dean of Outside Agitation.
It’s a case that should generate a lot of introspection in America. Are SYG laws wise? What kind of people are we allowing into neighborhood watches? Is everybody who is NOT a teenaged black male afraid of teenaged black males? Why?
Boxturtle (I can come up with other questions, but there’s a start)
Dearest Kassandra,
There are in fact some males on this planet that are not sexist, repressed, oppressive, cruel, spitefull, hatefull, mean, littering assholes.
Respectfully,
oldnslow
Besides the FED has been trying that over and over and it’s had zero effect. The FED has had more QEs than the Cunard Lines. :-)
http://truth-out.org/news/item/10169-fossil-fuel-industry-uses-other-alecs-in-plan-to-save-itself
I’m wrong ten years is all they figure they can keep us safe from CO2 burried in the ground in liquid form.
This almost passed in Illinois we have lots of limestone in the ground.
http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/acidrain/5.html
Burn coal yes you get CO2 but you also get sulfur and mercury n the smoke too. I read nothing about how to remove the sulfur from the smoke, much less the mercury.
Sulfur and water make acid which means a small leak from the low cost bidder’s underground storage tank will make any leak bigger.
Mercury of course is poison.
We have lots of Limestone underground in my state poisoning the Great Lakes underground water table with Mercury added in direct never mind the danger of liquid CO2 turning to gas is STUPID at such a level…I am at a loss for words.
Genuine, that is a joke. What about Love?
Oilbomber doesn’t love his own children enough to want to leave them with a functioning society, drinkable water and a breathable atmosphere.
Bad job numbers.
We can speculate about the containment, but until we see that burst of steam that says the melt is into the groundwater, we won’t know.
I fear we’ll find out. #1 is still experiencing recriticality and the heat generated from that will eventually dissolve the concrete. And the chemist in me wonders what acids might be formed when cold salt water hits hot corium. HCL at least.
Boxturtle (Thinks Fukushima will make a measurable decrease in human life expectency)
http://truth-out.org/news/item/10169-fossil-fuel-industry-uses-other-alecs-in-plan-to-save-itself
Tea Baggers are suppose to hate Government interference but they want Corporations to have the very powers they don’t want government to have? This is the point where even Empathy fails to help understand their logic, their way of seeing things, this is another definition of Crazy.
Well then, problem solved. Sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere creates H2SO4 which is a great reflector of IR radiation, keeping the planet cool.
/snark

When you consider yourself one of the 1% those things are not something you worry about. Soylent Green.
Perhaps. But folks are waiting to see if there will be any real justice. I have always found legal stuff fascinating, and Mason’s diaries are good because he’s a lawyer and can explain evidence. I think the Trayvon Martin case is falling from the consciousness of too many people.
So that excuses the vast majority that are?
I’ve heard that one since the women’s movement in the 70′s
Double dip.
Your answer was better than mine!
80,000 gives an average of 1,600 jobs per state. Yeah, that’s the road to recovery.
Not heat or chemicals, but pressure. You may notice you NEVER see liquid CO2. It doesn’t exist at normal pressures. Imagine what would happen if a wall cracked. Liquid CO2 turns to gas, gas pressure on the wall expands the crack, more liquid CO2 turns to gas and *BOOM*.
CO2 hugs the ground, there have been CO2 releases from lakes that have killed thousands.
Boxturtle (They know a LOT about Co2 behavior. They’re going to hope WE don’t)
Thanks and will check it. I am interesting in learning tactics of those hotbed groups to try locally. Speaking with or questioning local Democrats does little more than make one mildly hoarse.
I wonder at the “math ” ALEX used to prove their idea could work. I wonder what engineers, geologists, chemists etc would say on a thread that looked at their “math”.
I can make any report say what you want me to say if you pay me enough, but I can’t make the “math” work in the real world.
George Soros should say on tv if this passes he will use corporations new eminent domain powers to build one of these underground liquid CO2 holding tanks right next to the Bush library, the Bush Mansion and Karl Rove’s house.
George can get on any business show for an interview he wants to talk about what ever he wants.
Can’t have a double dip when the vast majority of people have yet to recover from the original recession that started in 2007.
Goodbye Marble buildings any bets the Bush Library is Marble:)
And madder than a wet hen.
It’s called over topping and it has happened at lakes in and near volcanoes in Africa an South America.
You undoubtedly have an axe to grind but it is not with me.
But I likes double dips. With chocolate and vanilla and coated with dark chocolate.
Yummy.
KrisAinTX is cranking up a fight right now over a proposed (very small) property tax increase to cover school district budget shortfalls. A republican PAC has already started a disinformation campaign. Kris has been invited to speak at the School Board meeting.
(he IS formidable and he WILL fight)
They think they can maintain pressure forever? Underground in a state with the New Madrid fault? The last time that Fault let loose big church bells rang on the east coast. Rivers shifted their beds. Rivers alone are great at removing limestone.
Also lots of chemicals in the ground water and ground its self if there is a leak just what other chemicals that are dangerous could be formed with that CO2 in the ground after the CO2 losses pressure and explodes out of the ground?
Just thought that the word, “genuine,” was more universally inapplicable to the subject individual concerning almost any topic, not simply love.
Probably not.
but with what’s going on against women in this country, I get to throw in feminist stuff whenever I get the chance. It’s a BIG axe to grind
That vote is right around the corner, isn’t it? Heh, no doubt Kris is gonna fight like hell.
Depends on what your definition of “genuine,” is. Like the “genuine” butter flavor of hydrogenated corn oil. Just ask Madison Av.
(These pretzels are crunch, crunch, cruncherific)
Unlike the natural Africa CO2 leak these ALEC leaks would have Mercury and Sulfur in the mix as well I wonder how far they would spread and how long they would remain on the surface.
Mercury and Sulfur contaminated farm and residential land could be a problem for years if we put tons of CO2 mercury and Sulfur contaminated smoke in the ground.
Me, those I have had a hand in raising and those I live with are now, and have been since the ’70s, solid in your camp.
I’m always trying to immediately funnel any, “frustration,” into some kind of positive action. Sometimes that just means a few more seeds in the garden to have something more to share or a cat visit with the seniors.
New York Times: Obama, through his Education Secretary Arne Duncan, is granting massive waivers from No Child Left Behind Act but in exchange is requiring teachers to be evaluated by the test performance of their students. In other words, substituting an unpopular program for something even more onerous. No Child Left Behind graded schools but not individuals. Now individual teachers are being graded by “objective” metrics that totally don’t take into account the different types of students teachers are assigned to. The teachers’ salaries and continued employment depends on the test scores.

Makes an old hippie very proud. Yes, pretty sure it will be on the ballot in Nov. It appears also that Kris will run for City Council next year while wife of Kris continues to lobby me for a run at Mayor.
Jumped out for awhile.
My problem with those diaries is that he was analyzing evidence as it came out. I thought it is was irresponsible to talk about partial evidence when you didn’t know what the rest would show, so I bugged out of the exercise then.
Besides if there’s some justice in that case, it’s penny ante bc there’s no justice in most cases.
BT
Talking about Hillary’s rant on RT-tv.
I do hope Kris continues to post diaries about this fight. Being the mom of a teacher, I am very interested! Kristen sounds like a fighter, too!
I do take a break to get my thoughts together, but I stick like a shadow, dogging the local leadership and membership with “suggestions,” and questions. They quit insisting that I join the local party, though. I must be making an impression.
Maybe Kris can get someone with a flip cam to record him, so that we can learn from his example later. Simple audio would be fine, too.
Mason has been very prudent, IMO, in stating what is, and what might be, and what is not, regarding the progress of the case. Feel free to disagree…
I’m beginning to think that almost all of this know-nothingism is less a reflection of corporate sponsorship than it is of a deeply rooted tribalism; if the educated classes and the DFH are for something, the tribe has to be against it for no other reasons. I think a lot of liberals (the kind we generally despise here) deny that hatred because it doesn’t seem to make any sense. The real class divide in this country is not so much the one versus ninet y-nine percent, but between the educated and uneducated. The resentme nt of the latter against the forme r is palpable. The 1 percen ter s just exploit the opportunity. In a different world this would be like Pol Pot’s Cambodia, where they killed almost amyone who knew jow to read.
Many seem to revel in their ignorance. It’s as if it’s a badge of honor. “Education? We don’t need no stinkin education.” And if given the orders and the opportunity what happened in Cambodia could well happen here. The psyche of many Americans is no different from that of Germans circa 1930′s and Cambodians circa 1970′s.
Obviously I disagree. When I was still keeping track, he would do things like talk about the distance the gun would have been when the shots was fired, before the info on Zimmerman’s injuries came out, before the evidence about Martin’s fingernail clippings, before witnesses changed their stories.
I just didn’t understand the point. I am cool with people jumping to conclusions: innocent until proven guilty is for courts, not for ordinary folks. Even so, I didn’t get why one would want to go thru stuff like that when it’s partial. Let alone a lawyer doing it. He, if anyone, should know the pitfalls of partial information.
I’m sure he will.
And nonquixote there will be video. Ours and local (Austin) news.
Separating the uneducated from the educated is just one of the many ways that PTB keep people with common interests from banding together. I.E., a specific example of divide & conquer. Zinn has a whole list of D&C techniques that PTB have used.
That is why the austerity that is being applied to higher education is so damaging. Allowing the 1% to block financial access to higher education will kill progressive change. It will eventually turn young Latinos into Rs. IMHO.
Closing public libraries helps, too.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Nice!
Be well everyone, our high temps are forecast 10 degrees lower than yesterday’s actual highs, I’ve got a couple appointments to keep.
Thanks SD.
Saw your comment on the way out, I always thought restricting access to higher education was the main tool to ensure a strong turnout for our, “voluntary,” military forces.
U-6 is up to 14.9%. That’s nearly 1 out of 6 in the workforce. And you can bet your sweet bippy that the 14.9% number is verrrrry conservative.
Reminded me of this, oldnslow
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xTYp2akeH6s
You are one of the good guys :). And we have a lot of them here.
Good morning, pupses. Thank you, SD. Hey, there is still a seat left for me, late as I am *g*
Relatively quiet morning here in the Diner. I’m sewing, then cleaning my house. Trying to stay AFK and get something done!!
AFK=away from…..K, hmmmm…. Klingons is all that comes to mind.
I’m trying to research some places in Nashville that might be good spots for a baby shower, but my wifi connection keeps dropping… Aaarrrggghh.
Just saw a little boy toddling down the beach in green swim shorts, trailing a cute inflatable blue and green turtle…. Since the kids were here with us while expecting the Lentil, I’m thinking about oceans and turtles as a shower theme. I have lots of sand dollars and sea shells that we have gathered over the years, and I bet the Jekyll Turtle Conservancy would give me some more ideas as well as fun things from their gift shop….
Any ideas or party planning websites would be much appreciated, you guys. Only wish cbl was located closer so we could use one of her cakes as the centerpiece.
Oh, Kewl. What fun to plan!
Wish I was more imaginative :). I need to look at magazines and websites for ideas that I can adapt (steal).
I’ve got a Flip :)
Don’t know if the school board allows video recordings at their meetings, but if they do you’ll be able to see me take on a Republican PAC representative in real time.
Break one off in his/her ass, Kris.
Jumping to end ’cause, well, THAT’S EXCITING!
And exactly what we need to be doing. The nutjobs have a thirty year headstart on us. Plus “liberals” seem to have the fatal flaw of giving up too soon, without doing that scutwork, on-the-ground, starting level organizing, running-for-office thing, beginning at city council/school board level.
Good on ya both, even if you don’t run for mayor, oldnslow. (Could be a question of Bush-like family dynasties there…joke!)
Obviously, in so many ways, you and cbl DID raise KrisinTx right. ;-)
AFK=Away From Keyboard
Turtles, shells, and sand dollars! Sounds adorable. I’ll bet a turtle cake wouldn’t even be too hard to do…round body, just need quarter-circles for legs…bet if you search you can even find a how-to video. (heh. How do you feel about cake-baking?)
I would sooo loooove to be at a beach now…any beach! Think of us!Dig some sand for me.
I will dig some sand and then also find a smooth spot and write your name in it, all the while making a wish that you will be beachwalking sometime very, very soon.
You should see the disasters of cakes that I have made, lol! Once for my brother’s birthday I made a cake to commemorate a particularly dreadful and funny canoe trip that we had just survived. Weather, bugs, fellow canoeists- all were immortalized on a nasty looking but surprisingly tasty depiction of a tent on a river bank. Even the serious attempts at attractive cakes looked like they had suffered earthquake or tornado damage :)
As someone who has been active in my local city politics for decades I would suggest that if Kris runs for Council you not run for Mayor. Opponents will paint it as a nepotism power play, the ground floor in setting up a de facto municipal monarchy, etc.
Hey, Moll!
It is a little quiet, but, then we have folks off to vacation.
OmAli said she’s with family at the beach. ((Om and turtles!))
Ruth and Spudtruckowner are in Oregon. Prolly hugging some trees! ((Ruth and STO)) Miss you guys. Hope you are having a blast.
KrisA is working, doing the family thing with his wonderful wife and beautiful girls….And, taking on the PTB! Go Kris!)
And, I had another sleep in until 6:30 am morning. Luxury for me.
One of the drip hoses on the tomatoes and other stuff – not using the “Z” word – so the guys dug some drip hose tubes and hardware out for Sonny to Make Happen out there. And, he will.
Hi Sue
Hi, Bev!
Aw,thanks. That’s more imaginative than I could think of. Envisioning the waves wiping it away right now…Ahhhhhhhhhhh, peaceful…..
demi – what Z word? Tomatoes, uh..oh wait…that long green veggie that sometimes grows to baseball bat size? Did I guess it?
I had to do it. 100!!!! Yay, me!!!
Put it on pay per view and raise some cash while yer entertaining us. Teehee.
