About Firedoglake
Good Morning, Dragon
The photo accompanying the article about Aung San Suu Kyi asking for Britain’s help is amazing. With everyone else wearing dark clothing, she stands in the middle of the group in her white jacket. It almost looks like she’s got a spotlight shining on her from heaven.
Good morning.
Moody’s downgrades 15 banks.
A scam that would make Bernie Maddof proud.
Good Morning.
I thought the Wobbly is a new line dance the kids are doing. What’s with that? ;-D
That statement and the general tenor of the article makes Ortega anti-American as though there is no reason for such an attitude. Actually Iran-contra never occured. There has been no US meddling in Central American goverments and economic life, ever.
Mornin’, pups
“The US policy of using aerial drones to carry out targeted killings presents a major challenge to the system of international law that has endured since the second world war.”
I.e., the U.S. has made a hash of international law by continuing its illegal drone strikes. This must be one of the “foreign policy” triumphs MSNBC keeps talking about.
Nah, a Wobbly’s a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), like me.
Morning, and thanks, SD, just a note, Occupy will be in Philly June 30 – July 3 and needs water bottles if you can spare a few. I’m on the road visiting today and early Sat.
You did see that Wolff’s gonna be on the Book Saloon on 22 July, didn’t ya? Yours truly hosting.
What kind of water bottles? Do you mean bottled water?
I knew that! I think the real wobble is as Bear Country pointed out above, the US is trying to make things (APPEAR) to be something they are not. As usual, American citizens have not a clue.
Ah, no. I didn’t see it but to you a big WHOOP! Marking it on the date book now as I look over my shoulder for Alan.
(Huge pat on the back to you!)
You’ve got almost a month to read it.
FDL sent out an email for Occupy that shows the latest Supply gear. It is a collapse type container.
Will do my best. I’ve got a little money coming in now so I can purchase reading materials and educational books like that one. Looking forward to it and the discussion on alternate types of economics.
There’s a story that I find funny, or at least ironic, at Huffpost about that minister who predicted the end of the world, then had to recalculate, but was still wrong. He’s facing jail time for tax evasion.
Oops!
Morning, pups. Gotta take my car to the doctor this morning, so I’m sorta in and out of the Diner.
Jane has some sort of “buy a water bottle and we’ll donate a water bottle to Occupy” promo going on.
EDIT: Oops, PP, didn’t see your reply before I posted this.
Here, from Occupy
Supply
http://shop.occupy-supply.com/sip-n-go-water-bottle-p61.aspx
Guess he isn’t into giving to Ceasar what is owed.
DN! is discussing solitary confinement.
Wonder how I can buy half a dozen and have ‘em all go to Occupiers.
Apparently not. It does make me wonder what I would do if I really thought the world was going to end.
Since you can’t take money with you, why was he cheating and lying and hiding? Maybe, just maybe, he never really thought the world was going to end. Is that possible?
I just gave a dollar amount and didn’t order any for myself.
Your Juan Cole translation of Omar Khayyam for this morning:
You’re a good person, Ruth. You too, SD.
Yeah, that’s the only way I can see to go. No options on the bottle order form.
send me an email to gulfportfreepress at yahoo dot com.
Thanks. We’ve been thirsty, too.
Good Morning SD and Firedogs -
de lurking to say Hi and Love what you’ve done with the place !
am about, still read FDL throughout the day, every day – (7 years this month – jeebus !)
your govt. netted you $2.6B in Gulf of Mexico Off Shore drilling leases yesterday – woo hoo ! over 836,000 acres at depths of 5,000 feet +, what could possibly go wrong ?!?!
having a dark chuckle as I read the words “independent audit” and “assessments” in the Spain story – any guesses as to whom is providing said services ?!?!
(forgive the ramble, but this is exactly what they did in ‘forming’ the Eurozone – audits and assessments – all for a fee of course
Hey, girl. It’s been ages. I hear you have a little cake business going. Are you still doing that?
Whichever of the crew handles that stuff (was it Ryan Cook?) could probably do that. I remember when we had the membership drive and some were donating an extra membership, someone was able to intervene in some of the more unconventional payments. Kelly Canfield and I were going to split donating one of the higher-priced memberships, but it got too complicated and we just each donated a basic membership instead. (Not sure it was Ryan, though…)
Morning SD & Pupses:
It’s a TGIF Day in LA…
Matt Taibbi checks in with The Scam Wall Street Learned From the Mafia
Kicking asses and taking names.
Waves madly to sweet cbl!! Don’t be such a stranger!
Mmmmmm…..Cake……
I keep forgetting which part of LA you live in. Will you kindly remind me? Gosh, we’re neighbors.
Why thank you. Nice to see ya, stranger.
Taibbi is great. I’m still trying to get caught up with his stuff after I was away. He will sometimes go several days without posting anything, and then I go away and BAM he puts up about three good columns.
There are 2 links for the water bottles. This one’s for donations only

(stopping by for take-out coffee)
good morning sister !
still baking at an all but obsessed pace – not making much $$$, but learning with each project. experimenting today with lemonade cupcakes baked inside a hollowed out lemon. yesterday was make-my-own-powdered-sugar (just throw table sugar in your blender half cup at a time for 3 minutes) and had some fun with “rummy bears”, ok, apple tini bears – uh yep, pretty much have to do something every day. wildly coincidental this all started right around the time of the coordinated suppression of OWS efforts
plus, most of my surfing is on my phone these days and am too damn lazy to type on the damn thing – plus, is there anything new under the sun :D
hope all is well with you and yours – xoxoxox
The more we learn about drones (very little, so far) the more a game-changer they appear to be.
Sorry for the delayed response here. Correct! He uses it as a control tactic and money making scheme. You know, kinda like the false prophet warning.
right back at cha (((sister)))
see note @ 39 on personal laziness :D
Yes, good, thanks.
Off to the auto medic. No wireless there. Have a great day and weekend, everyone!
Have a good day, off to central TX now, see Art Sat post tomorrow if you get a chance, (and sorry ’bout the blog promo.)
interesting that all sorts of warm and fuzzy stories about deploying drones to interdict poachers have suddenly appeared this week
Good morning Pups,
Thanks for the links and headlines, SD.
I did not know that about the powdered sugar. Now I do. Thanks.
We learn the most intersting things here.
He surely would have been surprised if his prediction had come true.
Imagine the stammering…
Oh, you get to promote.
And, have a safe trip and enjoy the relatives.
sheepishly grins
Oh hhhhhhhhhh!
Ya made me choke with laughter on my coffee!
Good Morning, Nonquixote.
Got anything big going today?
Off to work! Have a wonderful day All.
Maybe you could come by PUAC in the morning and share some of the other baking tips you’ve learned? Pretty please?
Have a good one, PP.
SD – anecdotal reports all over the twitter – People are in the streets across Khartoum – urged to rise up by Iman at friday prayers. yet unconfirmed reports of multiple deaths and injuries
From ubetchaiam at MyFDL thread yesterday is a bit of potential internet spying legislation that I don’t know much about the particulars or history of.
Always something coming down the ways.
Absolutely stunning. It took ten years to get the goods on these low-level Wall Street grifters? Tells you the likelihood of Jamie Dimon ever seeing Club Fed.
keep thinking of posting a Baking Diary but then – ‘oh look, lemon-parmesan cuppies !’ and I’m off to the kitchen :D maybe I’ll at least put one up for the knock you nekkid brownies (easy-peasy)
p.s. another reason I’m not around much – you might know Firedog KrisAinTx is my son and moved just down the road a year ago – grandbabies could make a gal believe in heaven !
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 2,016
Afghan, Iraki, Yemeni and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2012: 21,452 and counting
No war but class war
Comin’ Back To Me
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Never. Give. Up.
He obviously isn’t very good at math.
Morning (demi), SD, and firepups.
Wish I could say I did, but was out limbing a few trees that were scraping the backside of the house and others in a place that I am expected to mow, some bushes got trimmed back that were near to scraping the vehicle in the driveway. That was before sun up.
As much a game-changer as nuclear weapons — both for executive (Presidential) power and for international instability.
We never think in advance of the political and social consequences of changes in technology because we assume that it will operate within the same old political and social rules.
*snort*
Very understandable. :)
Well, not to sound too much like a mom, but wouldn’t it be easier if you could see what you’re doing?
Regarding “. . .apocalyptic consequences of failure at next week’s summit of EU. . .”
—————-
Kind of related in a circuitous way from France –
Hollande may have a new controversy brewing sooner than expected. As if he needs yet another diversion. Meanwhile the rest of us can savor the turmoil of reaching a resolution, if there can be any.
Progressive artist Krzysztof Wodiczko is leaping ahead of his huge protest video projections on notorious buildings worldwide. He has been proposing an antiwar statement in a real, tangible medium by encasing Paris’ Arc de Triomphe in a metal cage – quite a step forward from temporary visual images from a projector at night.
This is not old news anymore, though.
He says, again, the idea came in the early ‘90s and jelled with the coming of the EU in 1993. It has been no secret, fended off, but now he seems more hellbent and urgent pressing forward. But the concept may be taking on a new aura.
What Krzystof does NOT say, however. . . Now the cage could be taken as an unintended statement against the EU, itself, as much as against the Arc. The cage could be taken as equally brutal a structure as the Arc rather than the benign but insistent protest conceived in the 90s. Certainly the EU itself is getting stripped naked and has taken on an ambiguous, possibly malevolent aura of late. This is a problem for Krzystof, and the in-your-face cage may become an unintended accessory for skeptics.
Perhaps just seriously refloating the idea is Krysztof’s purpose without any realistic expectation it will be carried out? Good enough.
The magazine, Art in America, has a great interview with Krzysztof “Constructing Peace.” I can’t find it on their website quite yet, but I expect it will be posted before long. It’s in the June/July hard copy (I’m a subscriber). For those interested, it should become posted at one of the following
http://www.artinamericamagazine.com/features
http://www.artinamericamagazine.com/reviews
There are some other great interviews with progressive artists which are already posted
Reactions to a reinvigorated Krzystof will be worth watching
I think it’s simply further evidence of the decline of core education in the Southern-most states.
If he had been a minister from Norway he would’ve predicted the end of the world right the first time.
I gotta get going.
Thanks, SD, for everything.
Good morning all!
Thanks for the post and host SoDrag.
A very lazy morning for me today. Work is slow so we are off. (sigh)
Thanks mom, almost two hours of daylight before the sun actually comes up. Nice time of day, did this with non-motorized tools and could hear the turkeys clucking, doves cooing, and spooked a doe and found her fawn lying in the field, next to the driveway.
(edit) Your volunteering with the children at the library begins when? ;-)
There’s coffee and heroin at my house!
Err, I mean coffee at my house!
you’re killin me
Regarding Ortega, and coincidentally Egypt as well. . .
The US needs to wean itself from the idea that paying tribute dollars to thugs will make them change their ways. Cut them off in short order.
ruth @ #18
thanks for link — they used to have place to donate all to an occupation w/o tax but no button for that. did via paypal and that button not working for me at occupy supply page tho toolbar showed it and copy/paste worked.
paypal doesn’t allow notations so just hope PA water is top of list and the 2/1 deal applies… silly me; i KNOW all occupy supply donates are vital and serve us well.
In the US dealing with Nicaragua, just who do you think is the “thug?”
Inland Empire, so technically, I’m not in LA proper. However, the concrete jungle that runs from north LA to the Mexican border is pretty much all LA to me.
Huh. Thanks for the news.
I get your drift.
Still, yes, the Ortega bros are thugs. Minions abound to do the dirty work for them. What the US is, is beside my point, but I’d agree with you.
Maybe there’s no one better than Ortega there to run things there.
I’m willing to discuss the question of how thuggish the Ortegas are if you can show specifically how they are thugs. I can cite the US actions: forcing the CA governments to give special treatment to American corps, several overthrows of governments not to the US liking, the death squads overseen on the American side by john negroponte, assassination of officials not kow-towing to US demands, genocidal attacks by Nicaraguan and other govt forces, especially toward Indian minorities. The Iran-contra action was directed specifically at the Sandinistas led by the Ortegas.
The Nicaraguan govt seized properties belonging to foreigners, especially US citizens. Many of those owners have now been compensated. There has been no compensation by the US for the death and destruction that we wreaked on that country. How does that compare to the list that I made in the previous paragraph?
A little something nice for lunch. Ya gotta pay attention cuz it’s quick.
SD, did you see that markfromireland turned up at the Zimmerman case post? I gotta run, but gotta say hi to cbl!!!! Good luck with the baking, girl! Hi everybody…hey, I got work to do! (*g*)
Wooooot!
Dragon – I’m trying to submit a comment and twice now, it just poofs.
Something I should know? Thanks.
Yep, I’m up closer to the top. IANAL so I couldn’t go into all those swell arguments you and he made but certainly not gonna get all worked up every time something else pops up in the press.
Okay, that worked. Dunno.
I was trying to share that I caught the rainbow and had a story about when I was canoeing at Zuma and a pod of dolphins played with me.
Your guess is as good as mine. That one worked, though.
Well, heck. It’s just that I’m getting ready to write a diary, and I didn’t want to, you know, spend time doing something that might not get posted.
You sure are a busy bee here lately. Proud of ya. Of course.
That’s cool.
Listen, do you want to know a secret?
I just got back from the grocery store, put everything away, came to see what’s the haps with you. Then I realized the tv was on, very low, but I looked up and saw it was a cspan clip of the president speaking. And, I got up, and said to myself, outloud, Self, I just can’t stand to listen to the President speak. So, I turned the tv to a music channel.
Signed,
Goddess
(I have three days left, self-monitored, of using that.)
And, is Peggy just about the cutest thing, besides your tigers, that you ever saw?)
Peggy?
You know…Margaret. Her friends call her Peg or Peggy.
She wrote Demi for Goddess which was what oldnslow was referring to.
It was just a joke. Sorry, I thought you had seen that.
My apologies.
I have no disagreement with you about US conduct in Central America.
Ortega is another matter. The thuggery is that he stole the office by having Sandinistas pack the Court with Sandinista judges to declare Ortega eligible to run, when he was not eligible. He should have sought a legitimate change to the constitution first.
No doubt he is a popular figure there, and moderated in some respects as he has gotten older. But he is illegitimate by ineligibility, and did not act to respect that when he should have. He did just the opposite, instead of serving his country in some other way, which he could have.
Maybe I should leave Daniel’s brother out of this — I don’t have anything specific about him at this time. So I’ll demur there — no guilt by association.
