Mitt Romney’s senior campaign adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, on Sunday said that social issues important to women, like contraception coverage and abortion rights, were “shiny objects” that were being used to distract voters.
That’s 50.8 percent of the population there, Chauncey, and about 53 percent of the voters.
So back to helping out the poor, oppressed, wealthy white guy. Now those people’s issues matter, after all they’re bankrolling the campaign.
The bulk of the cash being funneled to super PACs — groups independent from political campaigns that can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money — comes from a select few wealthy Americans. One look at the list of donors bankrolling these groups makes one thing clear: This new element of American politics is overwhelmingly dominated by men.

Eric can talk to me about my uterus being a “shiny object” when he has to worry about potentially dying in childbirth. Reproductive rights are a life or death issue. Anyone who believes otherwise is ignoring the fact that for centuries that the leading cause of mortality in women is childbirth and that in parts of the world it is still a leading cause of death.

Your parting gift is a big fat “pfffffffft” and the sage advice that if reproduction and the who gets the right to decide what medical interventions are available to half the population are just a shiny object issue that your party drop it quickly.
The Rmoney campaign only wants to talk about what they want to talk about, when they want to talk about it, the way they want to talk about it.

I know you thought you were being provocative, a devil’s advocate of sorts, but none of your comments were anything but inane and annoying. It’s not just what he said or where he got his propaganda, he would be deliberately insulting and used names like “morons” and “idiots” with almost every comment. Sorry I didn’t make my point well. Contraception, the stuff that the wingnuts want to prevent, is used for family planning and makes it possible to limit family size to the number that can be supported. Economic deprivation’s being prevented, not sexual abandon, is the object.
You know, shooter picking this post to give us his fond farewell is strangely appropriate. He’s always treated commentators here just like the GOP treats women: Patronizingly. Like he was set so far above us that merely suggesting we are capable of independent thought was laughable. Older smarter men and women insist on condoms thats the only reason I might not be a grandfather as far as I know. I danced with a girl once about a year and a half later much to the dismay of her finance I am sure it was her dancing hard you learn an others moves same as sex but she said something and I was ok with that.

When the issue is contraception and abortion, that assumes that left wing views are based on a desire for sexual irresponsibility. Not the case. It’s about choosing your own family needs, size, and financial state.

You’d think they’d be handing out condoms and birth control pills with all the whining about having to fund education and subsidies for housing, food, and health care.
I’m all for informed conversations/debates/discussions. I have quite a few friends & close-ish acquaintances who are conservatives, and we often have *informed* political discussions. I doubt that any minds are changed, but sometimes there is an “opening” on one side or another.
Sadly, from where I sit, most of my conservative pals are informed mostly by Rush Limbaugh (they admit it; they love him; go figure), and they mostly say what to me are typical rightwing talking points. This seems rather surface-y to me & without much real thinking on their part. But our exchanges are *respectful,* and they do actually *listen* to me with respect.
I agree that the troll named shooter just comes here to be patronizingly condescending & often calls bloggers here morons & idiots. What’s the point of that, other tha, I guess, to make shooter “feel good” about him/herself.
I have yet to have *any* conservative, whether shooter or others, name JUST ONE JOB that Mitt Romney created. I had a very lengthy “discussion” (if one can use that term) with shooter one day, and s/he was NOT able to to name *one job* that Rmoney created, but I got called plenty of disrespectful names for no real reason that I could fathom.
And so: on it goes….
If shooter does truly go away, I, for one, will not be sad in the slightest. Add something of value to the conversation with respect: great! Let’s have more. Barf out rightwing talking points with disrespectful name-calling & condescension: go away until you can find a better means of respectful discussion.

The ol’ abortion is a birth control method really gets my knickers in a knot. It’s positively insulting for a guy to insinuate that most of us are too stupid to take a pill daily or use any other of the number of methods available to control reproduction and instead prefer to risk having our innards scarred up by utilizing abortion as a birth control method.
